View Full Version : Anyone thinking about ditching Mogul for Touch?

Between BT issues, low ram, faulty ROM updates.... who is considering leaving the Titan and going for the Touch?

Of concern is the lack of a keyboard, I think how HTC implements the touch will be key. The iPhone makes it easier to type because of the screen size - 3.5 inches. The Touch, @ 2.8 inches is not any bigger than the Mogul. Doesn't make sense to me, if you take out the keyboard I would have increased the screen size...

Also no Wifi- but who needs Wifi with EV-DO speeds and Sprint data prices?

Personally I think the idea of no keyboard is fresh but I am cautious as I love to use IM+ to chat. I feel cheated by the fact that my Mogul I just bought a couple months ago has less than half the Ram the touch will have.

so...Whos thinking about it? and if you are what's your plan to ditch your mogul and buy the touch?

No way. I am on the "inside" and have played with the touch for several weeks now and it is nice in size but impractical in many ways that i can't overcome. plus the battery life is ehh... so if you're thinking about it...think differently. On top of that HTC just released some software upgrades that help tons! go check em out

I would never trade my Mogul for a Touch. The Touch doesn't have a full keyboard like the Mogul does. All the fancy stuff the Touch has is going to be on the Mogul eventually. Just sit back and relax for a bit.

Sprint Guy, you mean the "Upgrades" that freeze everyone's devices because of the faulty Radio code, and was incidentally pulled from the site a couple of days later?
That link now shows the 2.09 ROM again in case you didn't notice. 2.16 was up with the BT and battery fixes for no more than 2 days before people started calling and complaining that the "update" broke more things than they fixed!!

I'm losing faith in HTC's code and Sprint's development. If you're really on the "inside", I'd like to talk to you about the current state of Windows Mobile on Sprint...

I'm going to pass on bricking my device. I'm waiting for custom roms, I'm eyeing No2Chem's clean rom, it looks the most promising so far

On the "inside"? So you know about the touch with the keyboard, or the fact you can load the touch rom on the 6800...right?

Yup !! Can't wait to get the Touch.

128 RAM !!! Who-Hoo

I'm not a heavy text messager, so the keyboard is no biggy and everywhere I have Wifi I have EVDO and EVDO doesn't suck the battery down like WIfi does.

The unit is slimmer.
More memory.
I think will be better supported than Mogul ever was because of what they spent on advertizing. Supposedly they sold 800,000 of the GSM Touches. I doubt they sold 50,000 moguls (it's a Dud marketing wise) and the 64K is a total killer.
I don't care about the cute rotating cube, I just want a basic WM device that works.

My only concern with Touch is how rugged it is compared to mogul.

Just loaded No2Chem Rom.
Runs much faster.
No problems so far.
Going to reinstall programs right now.
So far extremely happy.

I need a keyboard, so there is no way I am getting Touch.

Will the Sprint Touch have GPS (did the Touch have GPS like the Titan?) and update capability for REV A like the Mogul ??

This could be a life saving device for Sprint, so it seems that all of the revenue opportunity MUST be in the Sprint Touch release plan ??

I traded in my Mogul for the Touch yesterday. The screen flicker issue with the recent locking up when receiving calls was what really ticked me off. As for the touch it's slim and sexy and actually feels more rugged than the mogul. I think it's becuase of the softtouch skin on the device. At least I'm not as afraid that I'll drop it as compared to the mogul. The phone is also seems much faster compared to the mogul. I'm sure I'll miss my keyboard but right now I feel it was well worth the "downgrade".

The Touch seems more like a finished product from start to finish. Even the packaging says WOW. The software, hardware design and performance just top it off.

I spent a solid week in between meetings and after work stopping by Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T looking and playing with ALL of the latest WM 6 smartphones. I have been with Sprint FAR TOO LONG and I was ready for a change. I had narrowed it down to the Mogul or Touch, but just had to wait until yesterday to see it and play with it.

Instantly, I was absolutely stunned by how well the Touch felt in my hand and the craftsmanship. The Mogul was on a completely different side of the store, and I must have gone back and forth a dozen times.

The specs say that the Touch is a miniscule 0.1 inch difference in thickness - I would have swore it felt like the Touch was 3/16" fifference ... or more !! I mean, the Touch felt like something I could easily slip into a pocket.

And from a weight perspective, the Touch is so light. The rubberized finish just made it even better.

NOW, I was really torn since I loved the Mogul ... but after playing with the TouchFlo interface for almost 1/2 hour, and liking the Touch keyboard entry ... I succumbed to the sexy new toy and went with the Touch. There is always a stylus backup and some clever new predictive "keyboard app" to experiment with. I also reasoned that I could also investigate some of this new "full size" luetooth keyboards is push came to shove.

The Touch's small size was the decision for me.

I looked at the brand new Samsung 1760 slider and, let me tell you, the keyboard makes the Mogul look "old" - there is real space between the keys.

IF, HTC revved the Mogul to a 3.5 in screen, with a more spacious slider keyboard - based on my limited experience with the Touch interface - they could seriously compete with the iPhone !!

I had the Touch for about a week before deciding to switch to Mogul.

The touch screen was absolutely driving me CRAZY by not registering correctly despite being realigned. I would often end up not getting the selection I wanted. It was SO frustrating! Especially when it is the major input device for the unit. It is definitely no iPhone.

Also, the lack of a keyboard is really a problem for anyone who wants to input text efficiently. Maybe if you got a 3rd party touch keyboard it would work better, but I could not find a good way to get text in using the out-of-the-box software.

Third, the battery life is absolutely ABYSMAL on the Touch.

Finally, I had some software problems as well - weird crashes and erro message boxes popping up, despite the fact that I had not downloaded ANY additional software or changed ANYTHING.

Touch does has some nice stuff on it that Mogul does not, including Cube, HTC picture viewer w/ touch interface, some Today screen plug-ins for weather, large format clock, and also an IM tool. However, I've found most of that stuff available for free download on http://www.mobiletopsoft.com, or in these forums.

Yes, the Touch is a lot thinner and lighter. The marketing material saying Mogul is only 0.1 inch taller is just plain wrong. I measured and it is closer to 1/4 inch - significantly thicker. I don't like that, but, then again, I am used to carrying around a Treo and the Mogul is smaller.

Also, I think Sprint at least has made some good strides on fixing glitches with the Mogul - if anything, it is working better than the Touch so far.

Hopefully I will still be glad I switched to the Mogul in six months, but only time will tell...

Don't get it unless you enjoy loosing the data on the Mini SD card on a regular basis...

I've got both the Mogul and the Touch... I finally put the Touch away... I can't get along without the SD card and have neither the time or patience to deal with the card issues anymore...

My 2 cents...
