Hi
I notice this has an even newer radio version, can anyone extract this so we can try it without the OS? I'd give it a go myself but not sure how to do it.

I too would like to know what is different besides the versions. Not to say I'm not grateful, but I need to know my phone is going to work after a flash.
By the way, where does this stuff come from?

Hi
Okay I was able to extract the radio ROM and flashed to my HTC Kaiser. I had a problem in that while it connected to the network, all sound had been disabled with this version of the radio ROM, both from the earpiece and the speaker. Went back to 1.27.12.17 and sound came back.
I can only think the radio ROM also contains audio drivers, and this radio ROM isn't compatible with some Kaisers.

I'll try it. The initial radio has been horrible for me - with a 8525, I always live on a 3G connection with full signal strength. With the Tilt, I keep only two bars on 3G when I connect and I drop down to 1 bar Edge all of the time... The Edge connect is draining my battery fast...

I had the exact same problem... i am also using a cooked rom... but my data worked just fine...
Can anyone who flashes the whole rom let us know if it works?

Hi
I don't think there is any radio ROM that will suddenly give improved signal strength, you need a new aerial for that surely? The best it could is report the strength differently to make it appear better, or fix some bugs with certain networks.
If the Wiki here starts working again I will try and upload the radio Rom there.

I put the full one on mine. Finally, I get my 3G back and no more EDGE (yay!!!). This one appears to be a little less than what the 8525 has, but it is leaps and bounds (for me) over the release AT&T radio.
GPS seems slower, though...

Put it on my Tilt also-
I'm a noob to this,so I don't see any differences-other than it won't allow removal of the Billboard MIDlet if you use the ATT custom install. Can't find how to get rid of it, but other than that-working here!:)

installed this onto my tilt after running helmi clean rom for a week. i use spb mobile shell and phone suite...it took forever to do a screen rotate on helmi's but on this os its full speed ahead. just had to do some regedits to change button 6 but thats easy enough. Hopefully a clean install of this os will be really nice. I don't notice much of a difference with the radio signal fyi.

Yup,
And unlike my original ATT ROM, the ability to remove the MIDlets using the "remove programs" screen; has been taken away. they all reside in the Java app launcher now, and it'll let you uninstall all of them listed-except the "Billboard" MIDlet.

I think that's a bit premature at this point. I'd say it's highly likely HTC has linked the radio and audio differently in this firmware. It doesn't necessarily mean it's 'buggy'. Especially since I have been running it now for 24 hours with no problems what-so-ever.
Also, as someone else pointed out, I also noticed the screen redraw on opening/closing the keyboard seems slightly more responsive. Also, I haven't noticed any 'freezing' of the touch screen like the previous version had.
The jury is still out, but for me it seems like a pretty clean ROM (minus the AT&T junkware).

i would say that more than likely the rom has newer ril.dll and rilgsm.dll that interface with the radio... this would explain the lack of audio with the radio.. So i wouldnt be quick to judge the new radio until we can get a cooked rom with the new ril's

yes - annoying on the band page issue - band no longer controlled by registry - have to do a direct call to .dll to switch bands

It's possible to get quite a bit of Storage/RAM with this build and it is fast.
I cleaned out all of the AAC files, most of the AT&T junkware, Voice Speed Dial, and edited the mxip files to change the network settings to wap.cingular...
After doing that, I am at 142.34 MB free Storage and 73.11 MB free Program. I used the bigstorage setting of tadzio's tools.
I still can't get a kitchen to work (error building registry), so I can't add packages. I customized this build by only editing the dump directory and then rebuilding it... I'm also missing the Games folder from the Program files menu.

Everyone should know that this registry tweak doesn't really do anything but change the icon to display H instead of whatever band you are actually using. ATT simply prefers it to say 3G it seems. It HSDPA areas I get HSDPA speeds and vice versa with UMTS speeds. They are just choosing to display 3G for them all. The defect in the hack is that no matter if you are in GPRS EDGE OR 3G it will always display H even though you aren't really getting it. This tweak should be removed unless someone can prove otherwise. I think others have already mentioned the same thing that I have in this forum.

The icon does display correctly when I move from an EDGE network to a 3G one. The H is not always present and it definitely shows correctly.

X3 - works fine on all my phones as well. I was in an Edge area over the weekend and it displayed an E whether I was using the data connection or not (as it should). When I was back in 3G, it was 3G until I used the data connection and then it displayed H.

As far as the radio i notice it holding the signal much better than it did before. In areas where i had no bars before it is now holding 1 or 2 bars and I'm not dropping calls. This is obviously in one spot that i drive through every day and every day get dropped until this update. I use SPB mobile shell and phone suite and have had very slow speeds of screen rotation using all of the cooked roms so far. Never tried duttys though so can't comment there.

Going back to the ATT AKU.0.7.0 Cooked + BIGStorage version for now. If anyone knows how to clean this up and get closer to the magical 145 MB free storage in the other one, I'd be the first to flash it. I've been playing musical ROM's for a while now and have settled on this one as being the one I'm likely staying with. If you don't allow the AT&T bloat to take hold (i.e., soft reset before the 3 seconds are up), you can do quite nicely with this. Sure, my storage is less than some of the bigstorage ROM's out there, but this is still tons more than I had with any prior WM device.
It feels snappy and responsive. Enough so that I flashed my wife's Tilt with it :-)
Having said that, two issues I encountered:
1) With the HTC Home plugin installed, changing ring profiles manually (to/from loud/silent/vibe), whether using the phone tab of HTC or a 3rd party utility caused the phone to soft reset after the profile change. No issues since removing HTC home. (For what it's worth, I find my phone's overall performance, including battery life, to be a bit better without that plugin.. nice but overrated.)
2) Not sure if this is unique with this ROM, but I'd love a fix for this - If I click "ignore" on an incoming call, all that happens is that the ringer gets silenced for the remaining ring cycles. On past devices, "ignore" would actually send the call straight to voicemail. Is this fixable without reflashing??

Thanks for your review on this ROM. Think I'm going to try it out.
WRT to the issue above, the stock AT&T ROM acts the same way. On my Cingular 3125 (HTC Star Trk) the outside buttons gave you the option to "Reject" or "Ignore". Ignore did the same thing as Ignore on the Tilt (i.e. silence the ringer). Reject did what you are looking for.
I just played with my Tilt for a minute and found that the red-handset button (I'm sure there's a real name for it) acts as a "Reject" button and immediately sends the call to voicemail.

Not for me... I just tested - the red button (end call / hangup / whatever....) gives me the same result as pressing the soft-button for ignore... oh well...

That's what my weekend is going to be devoted to.
I'm working on removing all of the AT&T Crap:
Stupid Blue Dialer
Sprite Backup
Office 2007
Cyberon Voice Dialer
AT&T Customization Routine
The "Sample Song Tracks"
MobiTV
TeleNAV
Quick GPS
Real Player
CellularVideo
Jbed Java
Zip
I might even remove the retarded sounds (like Dog Bark as well as the new ones AT&T added)
Everything that is removed will have a CAB file to add it manually.
I think I'll do a PPT and a Non-PTT Version.

Hopefully with the new ROM Kitchen out now, one of the more technically gifted among us can put together a clean version of this ROM so you/we can have our cake and eat it too.
I can't wait. I have been using Helmi_C's Rom and it has been great so far. I have tried them all and it was the least buggy in my opinion. So all the software will be available in cabs? I do want Mobile office and a couple of others. I agree those sample videos are a waste and take up too much memory. I look forward to it.

Look forward to Kyphur´s ROM... I have been playing with the kitchen and this ROM and removing quickly some of the bulk I´ve got a ROM with 153.34 Storage... so I´m really looking forward to an expert´s version!!
Seems a little quicker than the previous ROM I was using (Big Storage Spanish HTC ROM) especially when opening windows folder in file explorer, but need to benchmark to confirm this... certainly the radio gives me another bar  , will have to see how the battery life holds up..

I'm kind of anal and like to have most of my software in a Program Files Folder instead of the Windows Folder.
I want to move as much crap out of the windows folder as I can to see if it helps with performance.
I'm also going to remove as much of the sounds & extra images as possible simply trying to trim down the Windows Folder.
Also, anything that is in the Rom but moved cost us double memory (once for Rom, once for Storage).
Initially everything is on the list of potential chop-victim, Quick GPS just may get a pardon as it is so small and apparently it gets left in the Windows Folder.
On the other hand, I will be removing HTC Task Manager. Seems there are a lot of members (myself included) who use other tools that include this function. Also there are cabs for just about every version already floating around the forums.

My removed items folder ialready exceeds 40mb! All those silly sounds & graphics were the first to go.
One thought on removing Office & not including things like Windows Live & Java: If we have a good stable base rom then when these items are updated we can always create/get Cabs of the newer versions and upgrade them without flashing the Rom.
BTW, I'll never integrate MS Voice Command (even though I always use it) simply because it is a commercial application and therefore considered WAREZ.

I agree whole heartedly! That's the smartest approach IMHO, and I don't know why more ROMs aren't done that way. A fast, stable OS, a CABs for everything else. Makes management way easier, upgrading easier, it's better all around I feel.

It´s very fast... HOWEVER... since my last flash I have lost sound  The radio has been reported to be the issue on other threads but up until this last flash I hadn´t had any problems. It´s a shame because the radio has been a big improvement on the previous ones.

This may be wishful thinking on my part, but the sound quality of phone calls seems to be better after flashing this ROM.
Misc. Problems after flashing (these could just be my stupidity though):
Browsing the web - I did a soft reset before customization and no longer have the disable proxy option. I can't connect to any web pages. There's got to be a regedit or tweak for this. OK, found the disable and restore proxy cabs.
My touchflo cube no longer works.
The comm manager that I was using before flashing no longer installs. Found Touch Comm manager that works

For Dialer, RegEdit: HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin Set Enabled to 0 (Zero) Then power-off via the Power Button (to preserve Reg Change) when you power up you should have the default WM6 Black Dialer again.
For CommManager, if I stop the AT&T Customizations this is what I have:

Thanks, but I see I need to rephrase myself a wee bit. What you metioned I already discovered. This registry edit leads me back to the default WM6 skin with rounded buttons. I was actually referring to the skins that first appeared on the Touch and now are default on the TyTN II, those with the square buttons. With those skins the comm manager and the dialer have the same layout. Normally I wound not mind using some of th Schaps skinds for the Hermes, but I;d like to preserve videocall facility, hence the need for the default TyTN II skins.

I´ve been trying to cook one but for none ATT... But I´m still learning and so far I still have a few issues :( and although the ROM I´m now running is extremely fast and stable I still have these problems.....
1.Internet Proxy over GSM/UTMS/HSDPA (as previously mentioned in thread)
Tried registary edits and even the cabs posted on this thread but I can only connect via wifi. Anyone found a solution to this?
2.Cooked in Video dialer
Managed to cook in the standard black square button touch dialer but I can´t get the video skin to work. Maybe a more experienced cook could point me in the right direction?
It would be great to solve these isuues as it´s very fast and I like the new radio ROM....

Found if you install proxy disable cab each time you connect you can use the PIE over 3G but I need to find a way to get this to stick in reg. I saw this post below by shogunmark on an old Hermes thread so I´m looking for something similar... keep posted.
"on the reg tweak.. have you tried the last thing it mentions...
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings] The default setting (that uses the proxy) is:
"EnableAutoDetect"=dword:00000000 Change it to:
"EnableAutoDetect"=dword:00000001 Or simply delete it. It's more of the fact that if it's there and =0 it's used. if it's missing it's not used. But changing it to =1 will also make it disable. This way you can simply change the value back without re-adding the seting back in.
For some reason, the registry entry above will occasionally revert from =1 to =0, causing IE's proxy to be active again. Deleting the registry entry prevents this from happening"

Can anyone who flashes the whole rom let us know if it works?
It worked well for me - it's the first Kaiser ROM that I haven't had any issues with (but Spb Diary version may have been an issue with other trials) - now I've gone on to Helmi's Big Storage Tilt ROM and it is also working well - no sound problems.
BTW: I prefer the Tilt ROM's because I have a Tilt, and I don't want a dialer that has a superfluous video button; and quite frankly, I am not enamored with the monochrome look of the Tytn II ROM's, and the HTC Home takes up too much real estate, and I don't need a giant old-fashioned digital time display.

I won't provide a cab for Microsoft Voice Command as it is a commercial product.

Yeah, I was wondering if voice command could be added by us. I know you mentioned something about copyrighting.
I gotta admit that I'm psyched about getting a semi-official rom for my 8925/tilt. As long as TomTom6 works on it I'll be happy.
When it comes out, I would like to see what people think is the best stuff for it. e.g. the best/stable dialer, newest audio manager, fixes*
*to elaborate, I mean if there is something not obvious to the noobs, please mention it. this may seem redundant (which I know is horrible for the threads) but so useful when talking about flashing a beloved device. simple things might be horrible problems for some
for instance, if the at&t text message center # is changed, a person new to these phones would wonder what's wrong and have no clue what to do

Not at all, especially if you go with a lite build like I'm working on.
The point of my Tilt build will be to strip it down to the base OS (as near as possible) and then let you add only what you want (ie games, office & MS Live).
Go ahead and play around now figuring out what you like and keep a list.
The two main points of my Rom are:
1) not waste space on crap I don't use so I will have more storage space for the things I do want to use.
2) Remove some components (like Office & Quick GPS) from the ROM so as they are updated I can upgrade them without being double hit for the files (ROM file can't be deleted so we pay upfront for that space).

As was asked earlier in the thread-Are ya usin the same radio?, cuz this one in the ATT ROM is better than the one in the stock shipped ROM.
Lookin forward to it

Oh my! A clean Tilt once and for all! I personally can't stand the Cyberon software. Who's gonna sit through 290 contacts and set up voice tagging? Yuck.
I got my Voice Command on standby.
Kyphur, please release this ROM as soon as possible!
Thanks!

Nope, I'm leaving the included version of MMS. I've thought about removing it and allowing each to install the version they prefer.
would be good to have them choose... the palm threaded app wont work with the new version, the sms and mms must be split

I want to get the initial ROm out tomorrow. I think for the second rerlease I'll pull out MMS and dig out the cabs for the two versions. If you have them and wouldn't mind sending them to me that would be great.

GAAA Kyphur you're killing me! My current ROM needs a reflash so bad it HURTS! Been limping along for the last week while waiting for someone to cook the new ROM/Radio...
ah well, I can't contribute so I can't complain.
More than a little belated, but I was glad to see you back after your haitus. Also glad to see someone with their priorities straight - a bunch of strangers demanding ROMS would rate pretty low on my scale :D

Thanks for the kind words and understanding. I hated disappearing but as you said priorities are what they are. BTW, my Ma is back in Chemo. The docs are amazed at her recovery, they really though she would be dead by now.
Regarding the Rom, I'm only having one problem right now: The PTT button. Seems I've missed something and it is messing-up the new reg keys for using it. The keys get removed from the registry on restart and don't seem to do anything before reboot. I think I just missed a little something of the PTT crap.
Once I get it working I'll put the rom up but I've got to get to bed now (work tomorrow). I'll spend some time on it at the office, really want to release it tomorrow (might even if I can't find this issue just so you guys can get a taste understanding the the PTT button is simpyl dead).
I figure that I'll have one cab for Enable PTT and one for Reassign PTT that will work on the base Rom.
I have the Office, OEM Games, Quick GPS Cabs ready to go.

Are folks getting better reception with this new Radio? I am in the bay area, and the stock radio that came on my Tilt is ok, but to-date does not have the reception I had with my 8525.
Downside of upgrading my radio seems to be I will not be able to run Dutty's or some of the other cooked ROMs that are based off a non-att template ROM, but upside (a) will be that I can try Kyphur's ROM ... which I look forward to, since the very first ROM I flashed was his original XDA WM6 ROM for the hermes, and (b) may be better reception .. thats what I am trying to determine.
Thoughts?

Same here, this rom fixed my 3G/Edge problem. Regular GSM signal is strong everywhere where I am. I once had a Samsung where the antena broke off but it still got full strength signal everywhere I went. So I can't comment on that part. However the low speed data transfers were really ticking me off, this rom fixed that.

If anyone is interested this rom is semi clean. I removed the files shown in the attachment and all the aac files. They're mostly out of the OperatorPKG folder. I also edited 2 provxml's to remove some favorites and unessary registry entries to AT&T folders. I tried removing more, but I just don't have the knowledge or the talent to do so. Just something to hold us over until kyphur finishes his rom.
I think you have to flash the official 0.4.4 first. The attachment only has the OS (System field from htc rom tool).

Hey kyphur, how did you make out with removing the AT&T dialer? A few pages back you said you were having problems tracking everything down.
It's gone! Completely and totally gone. Now you get the stock "black" WM6 Dialer. I've even discarded all of the images that were used by it.
I also got the last little bits of Task Manager out.
The only issue now is finding the little details I'm missing on the PTT stuff, something is getting left in the registry that blocks the Keys reassign cab from having any effect. I think I know what I'm looking for, just got to find it.
I don't know how many Tilt users actually use PTT, it will be the weekend before I can actually create the Cab fiel to add it back in but I don't use the service so I can't really test the Cab.
Still hoping for a release this evening (GMT -6).

Once I get the PTT reassign keys fixed then I will switch focus to two things:
1. Build CAB for Cyberon Vioce Dialer using the files from the Tilt ROM (AKU 0.4.4)
2. Build CAB for Sprite Backup using the files from the Tilt ROM (AKU 0.4.4)
In that order.
When I was cooking the Hermes Rom I had a spare Hermes, really helped with the development. Man I could use a spare Tilt but none of my lines is up for renewal until like Feb of '08...
FWIW, I will make the nbh file with both Radio & OS but not splash or IPL/SPL.
Anyone like the idea of reviving the "XDA Live" name for this Rom?

The problem is that apparently I've left something in the registry that hooks the PTT and prevents the keys settings from sticking.
I have a CAB I made that simply makes the key avaliable for use, I just need to find what I'm missing (I've got an idea but need to reflash my phone to check it).

Maybe after 6-GMT you'll start getting enough donations to just buy a Tilt outright, so that subsequent tweaks of your ROM will be easier!

Guys, remember I live in CST TimeZone (-6 hrs GMT, US Central Region)...
Expect the Rom to be posted around 8PM CST...
I fixed the PTT Issue.
By default the "Security Warning" is disabled.
I'm focusing on Building a Cyberon Voice Dialer CAB that will work using the files pulled from this rom
Storage Memory is: Total 162.18. Free 159.47

Very nice... I got frustrated trying to pull out PTT. I'm curious how you went about it if you wish to share. Looking forward to your stripped down ROM, can't wait for a clean slate to build on.

Not to keep adding chatter to the thread, but I plan on gathering everything I plan on adding onto the post after I test it for those who care.
Again, this is all new to me. Since this is an AT&T rom (kind of) will I need to unlock my phone or anything risky. I've read around the forums about CID unlocking and just want to be certain I'm doing things right. I plan to use HardSPl from flashing kaisers for noobs 101, but it honestly scares me to think I could screw something up.
I also plan on donating

HardSPL will CID unlock your Tilt so you'll be fine with just that.

A couple quick questions for those running this new STOCK ATT ROM.
I've seen issues reported about volume and GPS ... but are those for this complete package? or for those of you who extracted the new radio update and are running it with a cooked ROM?
Is there any comparison listed somewhere showing what changed (aside from the Radio) in this ROM Release? Different Apps? Lost features?
Just looking to do this entire STOCK image ... no modifications. If you've done just that, do you notice any performance enhancements/losses (aside from radio improvement)? I heard something about increased battery drain.
Thanks for any feedback.

I've been reading through this thread and I don't believe I could find anyone saying this was an "Official rom" from AT&T. I'm skeptical of updating my rom since I don't want to risk making it worse than it is. I have a Tilt and just want to make sure it's what's really supposed to be on there.
Also. Does removing all the bloat ware actually boost performance on the phone or just free up "storage space?" I have an SD card and don't use the storage on the phone itself anyway.

I've been trying to figure out a similar same thing too in a different thread because my original ROM is an older one here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1838688&postcount=24).
I have the impression that these are official because they can be flashed even if you don't have HardSPL installed, which only official ROMs can do, since the original SPL will do some kind of checking. Perhaps the experts can chime in here...
My confusion in the other thread is it seems that there are two ROMs sharing similar descriptions with only a minor difference that appears to be a hack. So one of my question is whether these official ROMs can be hacked slightly, i.e. making certain areas Read-only, and still be flashable without HardSPL.
shogunmark
2nd February 2008, 07:13 AM
These are official ATT roms, they are not cooked.
If incognitho posted it, then they are official and not hacked, even if there is a slight fix in between versions.
