View Full Version : bar code?

Maybe I'm not searching correctly, but I could have sworn that I saw a thread
somewhere on XDA that showed a way to use the camera on the Kaiser (or in my case the at&t tilt), to snap a picture of a bar code, and decode it?
We started using bar codes at work for inventory control, and it would be handy to just decode the barcodes on all the parts I carry, into a database.
If anyone remembers this camera/barcode thread, could you point me in the
correct direction??
Tnx!

If you find out, that would be bomb-azz! What a practical application, countless times I'm out shopping and I want to purchase an item, but I know I can get it cheaper online so I take a picture of the price tag and try to find it. If I had the Bar Code I could make sure I'm comparing Apples to Apples so to speak. Plus this would be handy for cataloging a collection of books let's say without having to purchase a bar code scanner (kind of expensive, I've looked).

I used a (free) app like that that on my Treo 650. It was accurate maybe 1 out of 20 times. even the developer said it was the best he could do with the sharpness of the Treo camera. maybe there's a better one for WM6 and a 3mp camera, but I haven't seen one.

This is an old thread, but I thought I would revive it with some updated information. I've been looking around for a barcode reader for sometime now. Quickmark has a Kaiser version, and it works. It also works faster than anything I've tried before.
Heres a direct download (as of 12/11/2008) for the kaiser.

I have found that this app works best on my Tilt... Just copy it onto your device and run it... just as with and of these application, you need interent access and make sure there is enough light where you are photographing the barcode...
