SDHC card patch (Freeware)
Requirements: Windows Mobile 6 PocketPC tested with other WindowsMobile version
Overview: Patch for PPC running WM6 for reading 2,4,6,8 GB SDC cards. This patch allows you to use 2,4,8 GB SDHC cards in your WM6 PPC.
[No Screenshot provided]
What is SDHC?
SD High Capacity (SDHC) card is the new SD™ memory card based on the SDA
2.00 specification, introduced by the SD Card Association. This new SDA 2.00
specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities - 4GB-32GB*.
Because SDHC works differently then standard SD cards, this new format is not
backwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices.
More SDHC compatible devices are expected to be available in the second half of 2006.
To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC logo on cards and host devices (cameras,
camcorders, etc.)
Compatibility with SDHC 4GB:
4GB SDHC cards can only work with SDHC compatible host
devices. To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC logo on
the packaging. Please check with your device manufacturer
for their current/future supported SDHC devices.
Tested on Loox n520, MIO A701 wm5 WM5 HERMES .OTHERS..and working

IT WORKS ON MY WM5 HERMES!
i copied the .dll files to the device Windows folder, installed the Certs cab, then the SDHC cab, took out my 1Gb microSD and put in my 6Gb microSDHC, soft reset.... and it worked!
checked through it, all files there, browsed through my music with Audio Manager, played various tunes. all working fine.
took the 6Gb back out and put my 1Gb regular card back in and it is still working fine as well.
GREAT WORK! :D :D :D

how to overwrite those files? when i try (i use resco explorer) it sais that files are protected by system and i can't overwrite them.

my regular 1GB card was not recognised by the Hermes after patch installation UNTIL i'd tried the 6GB card, which showed up fine, then swapping the cards back over, the 1GB appears with no problem.

The SDHC DLL's will only read non SDHC cards that are formatted to FAT32. Try reformatting you old 1&2GB cards.
The drivers from this thread look like the ones that have been batted around in E-TEN forums with various levels of success on HTC devices.
If these don't work for you, have a look here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1636544&postcount=5) for more options.

does this patch function ok with my 6815 ?
as i learned from this forum that sdhc is just a driver problem not a hardware problem. So , if we can find the drivers we can use it with wm5 devices.

it works in may loox 560 but when i try to connect with my wifi don`t find the wireless adapter, if you found that works in loox 520 it has to be the same for my Loox 560. You could explain how made it work?
I am using a Transcend 150x of 4GB but it worked without the SDHC card patch, but i am thinking to buy a 8GB.

So we have to format its microsd in fat32 before installing the patch ...?
If you are formatting your new SDHC card you should use something like this (http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html) designed especially for SDHC.
If you plan to use a non-SDHC card adding the DLL's and installing certs.cab then you should format it to FAT32, I first read about it here (http://eten-users.eu/index.php?showtopic=11390&hl=sdhc%20patch&st=15) last month.
If you flash your ROM from your card then you should format it back to FAT16 first as after the ROM flash you may not be able to read a FAT32 card (device specific).
If would be good to hear from owners of a Touch or something with standard SDHC support to see if they can read FAT16 formatted cards??

I would like to clarify this but I still don't have a SDHC card. I'll be getting one anyway as there are WM6 ROM's for my P3600 that have built in support but I'll try my best to get it to work on WM5 first.
Problem is that DLL files are very device specific so what works for one device may not work for others. There are other SDHC DLL options around the forum to try out though.

tested on a P3300 with original HTC WM6 rom and a sandisk 2GB card (wanted to install the patch and test later at home with a 4GB sdhc card)
it stopped reading the 2GB card... so i guess with this patch installed, you can't read "non-sdhc" anymore.
will try with other card tonight.

15th November 2007, 07:02 PM
ok, confirmed. the patches and instructions in this post did NOT work for me. HTC P3300 with original HTC WM6 rom.
procedure:
i have my 2GB card plugged in. the patch is in a folder on the rom. resco explorer is installed (on the card tho)
1) i execute SDHC.CAB, i am asked to reboot, stuff still works.
2) after reboot i copy the DLLs to the windows folder with resco. i am asked to overwrite and i check the file dates in \windows to make sure it worked.
3) i execute CERTS.CAB and once done,
4) i turn off the phone, switch to my 4GB (sandisk 4gb microsdhc)
i turn on and... no card. i go into configuration->memory ... sais no card.
i try to reformat the card with my PC, i have tried this file systems with NO success:
FAT:no
FAT32:no
NTFS:no
EXT2:no
EXT3:no
so... i'll wait for a single CAB that does it all. the guys who did the new roms will hopefully release one soon.
the thing is, this whole files posted here, remind me of a fake patch i tried several month ago. i remember this due the weird TXT that comes with it. it didn't work back then and it's not working now.

OMG i been triying for months to get away my reset loop problem on my s621!!
AND THIS DRIVER DONE IT!!!
I had to remove my 2gb sd card (fat32) every time i reset, was anoying because if i took much time to insert it had the storage card2 bug (really really anoying)
Omg im so gratefull, i read a lot of times that bug involve the omap850_sdhc.dll but on my device cant be renamed or replaced.
I just apply the pacth and done! now i can reset turn it off removing battery or at any metod and no more reset loop :)
P.D. I dont know if work on sdhc for me (i guess yes) so i dont have any sdhc to test
Ill gonna put a link to here on every loop forum ive visited.

I installed first the certs.cab and afterwards the sdhc.cab.
Now, I see my SDHC card, but only the 4 GB, not the whole 8 GB.
My other problem is, that I'm not able to replace the two dll files (using active sync) --> reason: the file is in use and can not be replaced.

If Resco can't replace them while they are in use you could try:
1) rename the two files in \Windows\ from .dll to .old
2) then copy the new files to \Windows\ and soft reset
3) then delete the two .old files

Is easy. You install SDHC.cab. But DON'T RESTART. Replace the files, and after install certs.cab. Now, you get a soft reset.
I proceed this way. However, my card don't work :(

Disappointed with WM6's ActiveSync 4.5->VPN->Exchange functionality so flashed back to WM5 & of course WM5 does not support my 8GB Sandisk card like WM6 did.
I installed the patch but it looks like the max it recognized is 4GB?
The only issue is the amount of memory it is reporting via settings|memory:
Total = 3,686.50 MB (should be ~ 8,000 MB)
In use = 2,493.75 MB
Free = 1,192.75 MB

This is my first post, so I hope this isn't a totally newbie question. I have the new Verizon Samsung 760 and just purchased a 6gb microSDHC card.
My phone wouldn't even see this card, but my computer no problem.
I found this site and found the patch from the 1st post. I was able to only run SDHC.CAB and Certs.CAB.
My phone now sees the card at 1719MB.
From the read me file on patch:
SDHC Driver
1) Install SDHC.cab
2) Overwrite /Windows sdbus.dll sdmemory.dll
3) Install Certs.cab
Soft reset.
How do I do step 2???
When I performed steps 1 and 3, all I had to do was click on the application and my phone loaded it. When I tried to do step 2 and click on sdbus and sdmemory I get this error "There is no application associated with "sdbus".
I'm sure this is why my phone is not reading the proper size.
Thanks in advance!

THE ONLY WAY to overwrite the old .dll with the new one is to rename both of them ("sdbusold" & "sdbusnew"), then put the new into the WIN-dir and name it back to "sdbus"<nothing_else>(.dll, depending on whether your Windows mobile is configured to file-endings or not), then reboot the system and delete the "sdbusold"-file [or not... if you don't care about free disk space and s*** ;-)].
IT IS OF NO IMPORTANCE AT ALL WHETHER THERE IS A CARD INSERTED OR NOT, SO DON'T MIND TRYING OR PROVE ME WRONG (if you're all h4x0r 'n so...)!!!
Greetings,
mollier
PS: The SDHC workaround works fine with a SANDISK 4GB card and my LG KS-20 (not supported officially). "VEEERY NIICE" (Borat)

Not working for me either on my Vario with english version of SuperRom ( http://ppctuning.org/?page=Superrom1.1 )
1) Backed up my existing 2Gb FAT16 card to my PC.
2) Reformat that card to FAT32 and copy contents from backup on PC to 2Gb FAT32 as well as 4GB SDHC.
3) Installed SDHC.cab. Did NOT reset.
4) Opened Resco and renamed sdmemory.dll and sdbus.dll to sdmemory.dll.old and sdbus.dll.old
5) Pasted in the dlls from the SDHC zip and confirmed the "overwriting files in ROM blah" dialog box. Then double checked the correct date stamps on the dlls in \Windows, and they were the right ones.
6) Installed Certs.cab.
7) Powered down the Vario and then powered up.
8) 2Gb FAT32 not recognised. 4Gb SDHC not recognised. Double checked in Resco and File Explorer to make sure they didn't show up as "Storage Card2" instead. No luck.
I also tried everything from Step 3 onwards but with a soft reset after Step 3 but no change, still no cards readable.
In order to get things back to normal (no SDHC drivers etc) I simply went to Settings -> System -> Remove Programs -> SDHC drivers -> Uninstalled them then soft reset. No need to change the dlls in \Windows or remove Certs.cab (since there is no entry for it in Remove Programs). So I'm back to good old 2Gb MiniSD support again :(

I have an Audiovox XV6800, I installed the SDHC.cab and tried to copy over the sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll files in the windows directory, but it says it can't overwrite them. Is some program using those files? If so, what is it?
I used Total Commander to try to copy them instead of file explorer.
I have a 6gb microSDHC card.
Would appreciate any insight y'all might have.
Thanks.
use rar and zip the two files, then use pocketrar and overwrite the files.

After some days of test I have this problem: all seems OK with the 4 Gb microSDHC, but only if the hermes stays alive all the time. After a standby (even after a few seconds of standby) the storage card doesn't work anymore and often the hermes freezes and it needs a soft reset. No way to change this behaviour.
Any suggestions?
I'm having the exact problem with my 8525 running WM5. After installing SDHC.cab I can read and write to either of my 4gb microSDHC cards just fine until the phone goes into standby mode. Then the cards will not read properly until following a soft reset. Often times the device just freezes. Both my 2gb microSD cards work well all the time. It's as though the registry gets changed or something during standby mode that causes sdmemory.dll or sdbus.dll to work differently after waking from standby. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just a question, can you access your normal SD card after you install that driver ? I guess you can use only SDHC card, Please let me know. :)
Yes, works fine with 2GB Card, too!

Ran the cab on my Nephew's XV6700 with 2.05 orginal ROM and it works fine. He hasn't tried writing files to it, or taken out of the phone, but I'll post if he runs into any troubles.

I find it hard to believe that a patch has not been made for the HTC 8525 to resolve this large sdhc microsd issue. I was able to use my 6gb microsd perfectly fine on the standard HTC/AT&T wm6 burn. With an upgrade (for feature purposes) now I've lost that. neither fix that i've found works.
I know most of the people on here are electronically/mechanically smarter than me... so hop to it! lol! Us techno geeks depend on the code geeks to keep us in our "my phone is hotter than your piece of crap" status.

I've tried to format it on my laptop, on my pc and finally on my photographic machine.... yes I know... but I've tried everything and I'd like to hear some suggestions from you to solve this problem before writing to the guy o sold me the card on ebay.

2.- The second patch sdhcArtemis cab.zip Don't work too.
3.- SDHC Support Kit hurricane and QTEK9100.cab It¿s works, but have some troubles:

Hello everyone, I have been the proud owner of a X500+ for about a week now, and I to wanted to have as mutch as possible memory avadable.
After a lot of work and searching this forum ( and the Dutch tweakers.net fora ) I got as far as 100% acces to the 8GB Scandisk card I bought today.
The sollution posted here ( overwrite 2 .dll files after installing SDHC.cab ) did not work for me, I could not overwrite the files in /windows. I was stuck a 4GB accesable space.
So I came to the conclusion that it would be better that those .dll files would be installed as the inital files.
I got a demo of WinCE Cab manager, and used the 20 min you get for better ;-) and recompiled the cab with the 2 .dll files you need.
I could not get round to Including the Info from Certs.cab so you still need to run that one to after resetting. But then you should be fine.
I have it working on my X500+, and I hope It will help you ( or shorten your install ) to.
Greetings Guinhill

thanks for the dll files.
i didn't find it yet . but i'm guessing something which i'm working on it .
I was too busy last week .
basically i red in microsoft forum that from windows mobile 4.0 everytime u insert the card in the phone or if phone comes out the resume, windows call a function in registry which is "ResetOnResume" which may cause this error or a power management of the card .
this is the link to the source : http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms836803.aspx
if anyone else tries to work on it as well, maybe this issue can be solved in near future .

There is no sub directory titled High Capacity within the directory SDMemory_Class into which a line DisablePowerManagement can be added on the 8525 running WM5. The BlockTransferSize = 64 parameter is in the SDMemory_Class folder, as well. If someone can post the series of registry entries that will enable SDHC.cab to continue working after restarting from standby mode, please post them here. Meanwhile, I am using two standard 2gb microSD cards that contain all the files - music, pictures, and videos - I had on one 4gb microSDHC card. All programs that I had installed to the 4gb card are copied to both 2gb cards. One card is in the device and the other is in my wallet. Swapping according to what I want to hear or view is simple, and works. This is only slightly inconvenient, but not nearly as inconvenient as having to perform soft resets all day long in order to use the 4gb microSDHC card. Any help is appreciated!! Thanks.

you install the first .CAB file and it will ask you to restart, don't restart. copy/paste the .DLL files on the windows folder. you can do this trough the file explorer from your mobile. Then install the final .CAB file and do a manual reset.

Hello!
I'm using WM5 on X500 device
I have 8GB micro SDHC Scandinsk
Have tried several times and ways different patchs, (SDHC_WM6WM5...) and all that I manage is to read up to 4GB.
I don't know if it is necessary to run on WM6, or if it is possible with WM5 to have full access to the micro card.
Is there another patch for WM5?
(Also have tried to upload to WM6, but after having problems with v_key one time, not upgrading properly via activesync another time, and so on, have decided to follow on WM5 wich works properly.)
Thanks a lot

There are a huge number of posts to this thread where people report various successes with "the patch" (sic). Unfortunately no one is very specific about what "the patch" is or where to download "it".
There appear to be several patches out there and some variations on how to apply them and it is not clear what is the appropriate patch to apply.
I am looking for a solution for WM5, specifically ipaq 6955. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which patch to apply and where to get it?

My experience is the patch can make the HW6900 read the 4GB mini sdhc card after a reset or insert. But once the device goes to sleep and wakes up again, the card is not readable. So it is not a pratical working solution. Don't bother. Its better using 4GB minisd instead of using mini sdhc.

Has anyone got an 6GB SDHC Card working in WM5 with any of the updates ? Which device brand/model ? Which update ?
The best I got in WM5 on my iPAQ 6945 was the 4GB SDHC working in full capacity with the SDHC.cab update. The 6GB with the SDHC.cab update show only 1.8GB. Partitioning in small partitions does not fix it either.
The updates that need to overwrite the DLLs and install Certs.cab make the device not working with any SD Card (even 2GBs non SD cards). I think this updates that require Certs are just for WM6, am i wrong ?
Thanks for any info,

You can use totalcommander to overwrite the dlls. Make a copy of the dlls first since if they do not work, you'll need to put them back.

Me too, got the same problems, the SDhost device no longer Work with any Sd Card. I forgot to backup the two files .dll and purchased 8GB kingston class 8. Now, Flashed ROM and using SDHC as 8GB USB Storage. But I still hope oneday has the respond patch.

All you who are having trouble copying the .dll files - did you try the zipped file in post #93 in this thread, which installs them for you? I don't use it personally, but it looks as though you simply install the sdhc_v071227 cab, which automatically overwrites the 2 .dll files as well, then install the certs.cab. No copying or pasting or renaming according to the readme document contained therein. Those .dll files do not work on my device - only the ones dated 7/15/2007 that are installed with the original sdhc.cab. However, that cab stops working in WM5 after awakening the device from sleep mode, and the device must be soft reset or the card removed and reinserted to begin working again. Also, for devices with Intel processors, sdhc.cab disables wifi on the device, but does not for devices with Samsung processors. I think the sleep/awake problem exists for WM5 regardless of processor. I've been all over the internet and these are my discoveries. I do not know anything about the behavior of cards that exceed 4gb sdhc.

And if it doesn`t work - it`s nice you told us - because the Pros are maybe anoyed by our questions and keep in background giving no support,...
It should be possible to greate a new *.CAB Package with the new Dlls from the first page.
Let`s see if I can do this.

Erich,
I downloaded Total Commander, and used used this to copy the files. It seems that Resco did re-name the old .dlls tho... which seems strange. anyway, Total Commander is the answer :)

it works on my wm6 ppc by overwriting those two dll files with total commander. i did not even install certs.cab. does anyone know what the certs.cab file does?
I ran into a bit of minor issue with the wake up from suspend where some apps stop responding, but as long as I force close the app and re-open, it reads the SD again w/o problems.
I also run into conflict with WIFI which stopped working after SDHC driver is installed, and if I uninstall SDHC driver, then Wifi starts working again.
thanks for everyone's input here

Hi
I have a question, I dont know if someone have already answered that:
I own a QTEK 9100 that supports mini SD cards (I have one 2gb). I run wm5.
There´s a patch in the first post named "SDHC Support Kit hurricane and QTEK9100.cab (66.5 KB)".
Is this the right path for me?
I really want to be sure before i go to to purchase that kind of memory cards.
Thank you for your time.

Now what I relay need to know is, IF I apply your "fix", can I realy be able to use this card?, I'm asking because I dont' want order a card where I won't be able use anywhere case it don't :P
So, if this fix also applies to the official last rom for HTC P3600, please let me know, and I'll order card asap :D

That is what I thought... :(
Oh well... I guess I'll have to save up for an iPod touch and run my phone in router mode if I want to use the browser on it out and about.
The lack of storage space is the most annoying thing. I guess I could just save for a more up to date model which does support SDHC and 3G...

My experience is the patch can make the HW6900 read the 4GB mini sdhc card after a reset or insert. But once the device goes to sleep and wakes up again, the card is not readable. So it is not a practical working solution. Don't bother. Its better using 4GB minisd instead of using mini sdhc.
Thanks. I was not able to read a 6GB card in WM5 on the HW6955 with "the patch". (Do not have a 4gb card to try.) I tried both the original patch SDHC_WM6WM5.zip using Resco's File Explorer to overwrite the dll's (I think it actually overlays the versions of the dll's in ROM with a shadow copy) and using the modified patch SDHC_v071227.zip that includes the dlls in the cab file.
Still not 100% sure I am using the "correct" patch for WM5 as most people that are reporting success are doing so with WM6.

I got the SDHC patch to work on my HP hw6945 Smartphone (running WM5) on a 4gig mini SDHC card.
I downloaded the SDHC_WM6WM5.zip patch to my PC and unzipped it. Then copied the entire unzipped folder onto my 1 gig SD card storage card.
Using the WM5 File Explorer I changed the name of SDBUS.dll to SDBUS-old.dll and changed SDmemory.dll to SDMemory-old.Dll.
Using the File Explorer I ran SDHC.cab file from the storage card which installs the new SDBUS.dll and SDmemory.dll into WM5's Windows folder. After which, it does a soft reboot. Then from the unzipped folder on 1gig SD storage card I ran the Certs.cab.
I got a free 7-day version RESCO
([url http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/[/url]) to format the 4gig SDHC storage card Fat32 (3.74 gigabytes). I will purchase RESCO because of this feature.
Everything works just as expected.

I also have the HP HW6945. You don't need all this steps to get the 4GB SDHC working. Just install the original SDHC.cab, reset and it's working. If you want to go back for any reason just uninstall from "Remove Programs". No need to copy DLL files anywhere or install the Certs.cab.
The question that remains unanswered: any way to get the 6GB SDHC fully working in WM5 ? Just WM6 users got it working so far...

I also got it working on my hw6945 a while ago, but the frustrating thing was that if the unit goes into suspend/sleep, after you turn it on it would not recognize the card any more. I would have to re-insert the card for it to show up again.
I tried all the diff suggestions like DisablePowerManagement in the registry, powerstate change for dsk1: in the registry, etc but to no avail. if anyone has better luck I'd love to know.

No one has ever posted a fix for this anywhere. SDHC.CAB disables wifi on Intel processors, but not on Samsung processors.
No one has posted a fix for the SDHC.CAB that corrects the problem of failing to read a card greater than 2gb after being restarted from sleep mode without either reinserting the card or performing a soft reset.
I am beginning to doubt whether these issues can be fixed at all.

Huh? I thought so, too, a while ago.
But SD-only PCs running Windows XP can be upgraded to SDHC with a patch.
And my Samsung i760 that would only read a 2G microSD card now reads 4G microSDHC.
The articles I've read suggest it is not a hardware difference, but a driver difference. I know Wikipedia isn't good enough for many folks, but this article on SD memory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card#SDHC) is simpler and more concise in describing the difference as a memory addressing difference.
I'm pretty sure from what I've read that it IS a driver difference, not a hardware difference. That said, that would mean it is a question of how each piece of SD hardware needs the driver to work with it to interpret the data appropriately. I think this is why my Samsung i760 can now read a 4G SDHC - when it could not read any SDHC previously - but can not yet read anything larger than 4G. Ideally, the appropriate driver will be discovered (BJ2 maybe?) to take it up another notch.

i used the drivers from the original BJ, which if i put my 6Gb card in, it detects the whole card (using the latest wm6 released from ATT) when I put those files on my i760 it still only sees 1.7x Gb. It's not solely the drivers, it's something else also. I think the drivers only allow the OS to see the card, but there's something else that determines how much it can see... or perhaps it's the driver that needs to be matched to each piece of hardware. I'm no driver expert, but can the actual .dll driver be modified somehow?

Everything I've read - other than a couple of non-authoritative BS posts here and there - suggests that there is no physical difference between a basic SD and SDHC reader; but that interpreting the information in that physical interface (the "driver") is the key difference. The "formatting" (my word... my way to understand it) is different and must have a driver that takes the bits coming from the physical reader and interpret them appropriately before presenting them to the operating system.
If my only experience were the i760, I'd feel less inclined to argue my point.
When my Motion LE1600 tablet would not read the 4G SDHC when I got it (microSDHC with adapter, actually), I was VERY pleased to find a driver update available from Microsoft to enable SDHC in Windows XP. I didn't expect that, since I had assumed SDHC was physically different.
Here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428)'s that Microsoft patch. I didn't expect it to work since the SD slot on the LE1600 was not advertised as SDHC. But after other posts suggested this would work, I tried it. It did.
I've read many articles in my Google searches on this topic that suggest that it is only a driver difference between sizes as well as SD/SDHC.
I'm not sure posts - no matter how large the font - of certainty that this will never be resolved bear out against experts writing on the variances between these formats and storage sizes. :)

This was post last July 18, 2006 and it is Feb 2008 and still there is no support for us so we can use SDHC cards to our PPC mostly on my BA!!!
SanDisk, one of the world's best-known memory card manufacturers, is set to release their first SDHC, or Secure Digital High Capacity, flash memory card later this month. While physically identical to the Secure Digital cards sold over the past several years, SDHC features internal overhauls designed to take the SD card format to the next level of storage and performance. The SDHC standard is compatible with with memory chip capacities up to 32GB and transfer rates of 2MBps.
While the next-generation SD card is a welcome development, a potential problem looms: consumer confusion. SD and SDHC cards may look the same, but the new card requires different reader hardware, and that could lead to a fair number of disappointing purchases at first.
Unlike CompactFlash memory cards, which feature integrated hardware controllers, SD and SDHC cards depend upon card readers for hardware control. Because the faster and higher capacity SDHC cards require updated controllers, current SD card readers won't be able to use them. This includes the readers in all current digital cameras, MP3 players, smartphones and Pocket PCs. A Pocket PC user looking for 4GB of storage for his audio collection would soon find this newly-acquired SDHC card useless, at least for now.
Although there have been no announcements on the subject, it's safe to assume that most, if not all, Pocket PC manufacturers will begin incorporating SDHC readers in their next-generation handhelds. These updated readers would be able to use all Secure Digital cards, both the type we use today and the updated SDHC.
SDHC cards will be labeled with the updated logo shown above. For a limited time, SanDisk will include an SDHC-compatible USB card reader with every SDHC purchase. The reader won't help users looking to use the card with their handheld devices, but it will allow for faster transfers with a USB 2.0 computer.

Authoritative-speaking fools are kinda tiring.
Yelling doesn't change facts.
If you've got the authoritative proof of your suspicions, please help us out by posting your proof and/or your credentials.
Otherwise, what you've got is not only worthless, it's damaging the potential for other people.
SD and SDHC are physically identical from everything I've read. Search. I can't seem to Google one up right now that I believe is adequately authoritative. I wish the Wikipedia post were better footnoted.
Here's my current proof:
Look up the specs on a Samsung i730 PPC Phone.
Published with the FCC for December, 2004 accoding to this: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=667
I'm sure you can find more proof of its age with searches.
I have upgraded it from WM2003 to WM5, but that shouldn't matter, right? That's not hardware, right?
It will read a 4G SD card, but NOT a 4G SDHC card (that's the only size I have to test with).
The i730 is NOT SDHC capable; only SD. No such thing as SDHC when it was released.
My 4G microSDHC that I run in my i760 (after loading a new driver, of course ) should not - NO WAY - run in that i730, right?
Load the same SDHC.cab in the i730 - as I just did (my kids use the i730s as their iPod / GameBoys still) and insert the Kingston microSDHC into an SD-sized adapter and insert it.
It works.

Was Samsung so ahead of the curve that they made an SDHC device before SDHC was released?
Or is the reading of an SDHC card in an SD slot a matter of a driver?

It works.

I've installed the first cab
copied the .dll's and overwritten the dll's in the windows dir using pocketpc
I've then installed the second cab file
soft reset
Everything is the same - my kingston 4GB miniSDHC card won't work with my Asus p535 (WM6)
I will keep trying other methods and report back here if I get it working.

16 February 2008 using an existing 2Gb microSD Card in a Transflash Adapter
1. Download and copied to 2GB microSD card SDHC_WM6WM5.zip contains readme.txt, SDHC.cab, Certs.cab and a Windows folder that contains files sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll
2. Select and run sdhc.cab, ppc restarted and using File Explorer device says no storage card exists. Removed program HTC SDHC, reset and storage card restored to normal.
3. Select SDHC.cab and Install HTC SDHC and choose device
4. Select Certs.cab and check successfully installed on your device.
5. Soft reset device
6. Select File Explorer and no storage card. Select Settings , Memory, Storage Card display gives “Not Installed”

Because your hardware uses a different adressing-type. It cannot access the full 8 GB because it's NOT compatible with the SDHC-hardware. No driver can fix that....

So.... Have anybody made the SDHC card running WITHOUT PROBLEMS on WM5 device (especially if Artemis?)
Please answer if you've really done it...

Ok, so just like a lot of people around here, I'm unable to run this patch properly. I install the SDHC.cab on my KS20, it asks me to soft-reset, I refuse. Then when I try to install the .dll files, I'm unable to put them in the Windows folder, as it tells me that the files are read-only or something. Same problem if I try to rename or delete them, there is no way I can put the two .dll in the Windows folder.
I install then the Certs.cab, and finally I soft-reset the damn PPC. On the Windows Mobile loading screen, it invites me to boot in safe mode, I do nothing in order to boot in nomal mode. Then I try to browse on my 8 GB SDHC card : it's not detected. New soft reset, new safe mode thing : my card is detected, but only as a 3.6 GB card, which is better than nothing, but not as good as if it was detected as a 8 GB card.
So, does anyone have a solution ? It's kind of obvious that the problem comes from the fact that I can't replace the .dll files.

- When I follow the steps of dirlan2001 it goes wrong at step 2: installation of SDHC.cab returning: “installation of SDHC.cab was unsuccessful”. When I use a CF or SD card it returns “HTC SDHC”cannot be installed. To try installing again to a different location…etc.” witch doesn’t make any difference.

Hello, I have a XV6600 (CDMA version of HTC Blue Angel) running wm2003se and would like to modify the SDHC.cab file to add this capability to the sd slot. I would also like to modify flashvideobundle_v1.4.2.cab to update the youtube fix to work on wm2003se, the 1.4.4 version only works on wm5 or later.
I've searched around for a bit and don't really know how to access the code and the different modules inside a cab file. I have a wm5 SDK disk and was wondering if that would allow me to modify the cab files. Can anyone be kind enough to point me in the right direction as to how to access the codes? I have some programming experience and would like to update my device. Thanks!

Hi phdelia,
You're running WM5 if your device is stock. I saw this link for some people that got 8GB SDHC on the HTC Universal running WM5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376771
From what I read it works fine in WM6 in the HTC Universal. Don't know if it will work on your T830 or the Blue Angel simply because of the hardware.
I'll have to ask them for advice on the tools they use to cook up something for WM2003SE. There isn't any way to update my XV6600 to WM5 or WM6 since all of the ROMs out there are for GSM phones.

And so continues the ongoing saga of the hx4700 SDHC card drama. (cue organ music)
Just a shot in the dark but, have you tried changing the name of the SD card to "Storage Card" and/or tried a cab called "Signed_Storage_Settings_App.cab" available on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360549
Actually, that cab will change your card name to "Storage Card" automatically. I don't have an SDHC card so I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WORKS. It's a bit of a catch22. I don't want to buy a card unless I know it will work, but I can't test if one works unless I buy a card.
It occured to me while installing this that most of the devices available now that these patches are written for have only one card slot, unlike the hx4700 with two. So, could it be so maddeningly simple that it's just a matter of putting the card name right in the registry??!!??
Naaaahhhhhhhh, wishfull thinking, that's all, but, but, but, maybe, just maybe, fingers crossed. (cue theme music, fade to sunset)

I'd appreciate it if somebody would try an sdhc card out on the hx4700 using the sdhc driver posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360549
I don't know if it works. I repeat, I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WORKS. Please don't get your hopes up.
The driver at that link will change your card name to "Storage Card" I don't have an sdhc card so I don't have any way to test it.
Thanks.

Works on LG ks20!
Had to copy the dll's with Total commander though. Windows copy didn't work(even if it asked if I wanted to write over).
Cheers +++!

HI, can someone please explain for a stranger/foreigner what to do EXACTLY!?
My Problem is, I can't put these files (cab's / dll) on my SDHC card and install at the phone. (Because my phone didn't "see" the 8GB SDHC!
So I have first to insert the files to my 2SD card and after istall remove the 2SD card and insert the 8GB SDHC card!???
I repead, what I wrote:
1) First install the SDHC.cab file into the main memory
(So from the "old" 2GB SD card!? - Because I had to get the cab onto the mobile device / ActiveSync doesn't work!)
QUESTION: Does this mean: the Device!???
2nd Question: ALL THREE files!?
SDHC_Artemis_back2original
SDHC-Artemis
WM5torage_178BETA2
2) DO NOT Soft Reset when prompt to do so
ok!
For step 3 - is there still my "old" 2Gb SD card inside the phone!?
3) Copy the two(2) dll to \windows directory in the Asus P735
these are the:
sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll
To where have i to copy these!???? How did I come to the "place", where I have to copy it in!???
4) Do a Soft Reset
Is this the part, where I put the stick into the little whole!???
If so, at that time is there still the "old" 2GB SD card inside!???
5) Install certs.cab
Ok, after I have done this - what to do!?
Art what time do I have to put the SDHC card into the mobile device!?
I have problems, because I don't know exactly when to change the cards - and I tried so many things in the last few days...temporarily none of both card where working (not 2GB SD and 8GB SDHC) So I restarted the mobile device again, without card and delete the programs!
I know, a lot of "stupid" questions, but I am not really into this whole thing. I just bought a 8GB card and want it to run at my mobile device!!!
Hope someone can help me.
Greetings from germany!!!
