I have been playing with BSGPSPDA (I know, could do with a catchier name) on my Kaiser

It took a while to acquire a fix (I was inside), but it was easy to configure.
It has an interface to maps from the OpenStreetMap project www.openstreetmap.org which makes it easy to upload your own data and download user created maps.
