Hi,
I have seen a couple of threads of people enquiring about the Tytn2 on O2 network. "Aparrently" O2 are releasing their version of the Tytn2 the XDA Steller on the 26th November.
Has anyone heard ant different.

My man at O2 Corporate has told me the Stallar will be released on the 19th of November, but the shops don't seem to know that yet.

I'm sure they had release dates in September and October that went by without a result! Still

Also on the website, the title is Stella and the writing below says Stellar...which is it?

I gave up too and bought a BT GPS receiver for my HTC Universal. I was really only looking to this device for the integrated GPS and didn't want to loose the keyboard of the Uni by going to another device without. Now I have that I really don't know if I'll bother upgrading unless O2 offer me a really good deal!
I hope it is the Stellar though as if it's the Stella it'll probably be "reasuringly expensive" :) :p
Until it's on the available phones list, I'm not holding my breath...

all the while i thought it's called the stellar!
There's only one Stella and it comes from Belgium and it's nice and refreshing (especially after ten pints) :)
Who would buy a Tytn 2 on O2 in the UK, the phone has been designed for high speed comms, which O2 don't have and when they do have it they charge a fortune for it with there excessive data charges.

Phoned the 0800 number on the xda site and they have them in stock now....on business tariffs though....
Called the normal user number, they say its due this week and their systems have not been updated yet, will take 48hrs or so.

I told them I'd think about it.
Just called orange and they offered me:

18month
FREE phone
£30/month

Just saved myself £180!!
I wasn't keen on the 18 month either, but because I am an O2 Select customer I can upgrade after 15 months, not too bad.
I asked O2 a couple of times about CoPilot but was told that it is not included with this phone. Only with the Orbit. Still considering using the money I just saved to purchase it tho, if only there was a demo.

Due to O2's system going down I only managed to order it at about 7.30pm yday, so not expecting it till 2mo.
HPJ: When did you recieve the e-mail saying it had been dispatched?
eyebeebe: Yeh, Spoke to normal Select O2 upgrade person and told them about Orange plan, she said she couldn't do anything for me but would pass me over to retentions who then bettered the plan for me.
I'm thinking now tho that I would have preferred less mins and texts for less per month, prob too late to try and change that now tho.
Bring on tomorrow!

I finally got mine sorted through retentions at half 4.
After lots of arguing about the offer I got a month ago not being valid anymore, I got the following deal:
12 Month contract
500 mins per month
100 texts
Unlimited Blackberry and Web browsing
£30 per month
Free Phone
Co-Pilot isn't an option yet but I think I might treat myself to it when it comes out. The deal is exactly the same as I have at the moment but £15 a month cheaper!
Only problem is they had my old address when I ordered and I've had to cancel it and will be reordering it tomorrow. If it's already gone to the courier I may have to wait til the middle of next week before it gets back to O2 and they get a new one sent out to me :(

-theres no htc home screen
-it includes a screen protector
-it includes a miniusb-esk to 1/8" headphone connector with a controller for volume up, down, next, prev, pickup,hangup,play/pause which talks to the audio manager (trying to get that to work with pocket player). It really quick too
-theres an annoying open and close sound which has its own settings menu item called keyboard sliding sound

jcwacky: got a few emails in the evening after ordering...including the email with the parcel tracking link on it.
I haven't done too much testing yet but in general the phone seems great.
I do have one question however, which I have a feeling will, in hindsight, be a very stupid thing to ask, but where the hell is the TouchFlo app?? I can't find it anywhere!!! I can only find a setting in Settings>system. Is it on the CDs to be installed? I haven't checked them out yet....
EDIT: yes just as I thought a very dumb question. I worked it out...there is no 'app' (the cube), you can just scroll up down left right with your finger...now, to find that cube.

The phone will be with me tomorrow, which is good, as I've missed the TyTn II I gave back to Orange.
Scott: It sounds like the package is identical to the Orange one, but with a different sleeve. Even as far as not being able to find the battery!
HPJ: I think you'll need to install a new ROM like Dutty's if you want the cube etc to work. Have a look at the upgrading forum, but don't forget to use HPL first!
EDIT: When putting on the screen protector make sure that it aligns perfectly with the (in Potrait mode) right hand and upper edges of the screen. It's about 2mm too small for the screen and if you don't have it right against those edges it can be a bit tricky to use the scroll bars with the stylus, as I found out the hard way.

Mine arrived about an hour ago! :)
Very nice looking device I must say! Fast too!
My only niggles are the keyboard and scroll wheel. I've just come straight from a Hermes and the Kaiser keyboard does not seem as good, sometimes you get hardly any tactical feedback from a button causing you press it again thinking you missed it only to have pressed it twice. It's just not click enough. And the space bar seems like it's 2 buttons joined together, as you can get 2 clicks from it if you press it in the middle, the Hermes didn't do that and it's a bit off putting (altho it doesn't seem to enter 2 space characters). Also the jog wheel seems to scrape the site as you are scrolling it only at a certain point.
Hopefully these issues are just because it is new and I need to wear it in, but currently it does not seem as well made as the hermes.
Shame O2 didn't keep HTC Home, gonna need to find that sometime too.
All in all tho, I am impressed!!!

With the Orange one I had if you went into settings>today screen>second tab you could untick the 'Orange' item and tick HTC home and it would bring up the Home screen. Does that not work with the Stellar?

I'm on O2 and was intending to switch to T-Mobile to get a TyTN II. If O2 are now shipping these, maybe I don't need to switch.
I'm interested to know what kind of data deals you guys are getting. T-Mobile web & walk has unlimited, HSDPA speed data. O2 site doesn't seem to mention anything about data when looking at their tariff details.
Getting this phone without unlimited data just doesn't appeal :D
jcwacky
30th November 2007, 12:14 AM
Are you sure you have unlimited with T-mobile? Looking in the web & walk small print it looks like the limits range from 1GB to 10GB depending on your tariff.
With O2, you have a couple of data options:
- £7.50/month gives you 200MB
- £30/month gives you 3GB + a data card
Funnily enough O2 calls those plans 'unlimited' aswell!

I think the T-Mobile deal is a lot more reasonable. Although I have heard that they block services like YouTube and other streaming radio/tv unless you're on a 'plus' package. Do O2 do the same?

Seriously thinking of upgrading to the Steller in a few days but never really got on with the XDA Mini S with its bulk and software glitches so returned to a normal phone and seperate PDA, so im kind of unsure if I will get on with it.
Played around with the t mobile version and like it with the HTC home etc and cannot believe O2 have removed this. Would I be able to get this function enabled? Pretty niave about Rom's and CAB's really.
Comparing T-mobile and O2 at the moment as I may end up taking T-mobile's offer of free phone on flext 35 rather than O2 saying it will cost me £130. Geez its a minefield really.
How are you guys that have it on O2 finding it so far?

I've also just noticed that Vodafone are now offering this phone:

Well just ordered mine through O2 Select.
£35 a month tariff
600 mins, 1000 texts, free calls Sat, Sun and Mon to all networks
Free phone
and Free 2gb memory card.
Wouldn't budge on the Co-pilot software tho. Not really bothered as I have a stand alone Sat-Nav which I prefer, the Stellar is mainly for running other GPS software that the Sat-Nav can't help with, and realistically, MS Pocket Streets or Google should suffice.
All in all, well pleased with the deal and I didn't even have to fight, they offered the phone free from the off, and when I mentioned the card, they gave that free too!
Overall really pleased with the experience!

Yep mines out of stock too. Got the text message, but I'd already called O2 by that point and was told the same thing, new stock on the 6th, could take 3-5 days from then though.
That said, I've been onto the O2 website and used the order tracking section and it shows as being dispatched at 6am this morning. DHL's site confirms that they have picked up a package just before 9. So it looks like there are stocks in and delivery is progressing! Well, 24 hours of ownership later and I'm pleased enough with the device. Everything runs quick, no hangs. Pleased with the GPS performance. Not so sure about the free screen protector, it seems to interfer with the screen. That may be coming off soon.
Not 100% sure I prefer it over my old XDA Executive. I think if you could put the guts of the Steller inside the Executive casing, keeping the screen, keyboard and IR of the Exec it would be perfect.
The "free" case that comes with seems good enough for a freebee, and I'm rather impressed with the handsfree since it allows you to plug the Stellar into a car stereo so it functions as an MP3 player. Don't think any other UK network gives you that part. Now to continue browsing the forums for tweaks!

Hi Steve, i too have had my O2 stellar for 24 hours now, but I havent been able to work the GPS yet, all I get is some program called QuickGPS which only gives me the option to download something, after the download completes thats just about it - dosent do anything else :( I believe the O2 stellar does not come packed with the tomtom taster CD like the HTC one. Could i ask how you managed to get your GPS working? The help would be much appreciated.
Thanks :)

I have a couple of programs that take GPS info. Microsofts Pocket Streets, Google Maps, Memory Map and a program called Crux View (the last one only shows GPS info, doesn't actually work as a Sat Nav.)
If you go into Start > Settings > System and select external GPS, firstly I set the GPS program port to COM5, then went into Access Tab and selected "Manage GPS automatically". Then in the GPS settings for the above programs I set them to look for a GPS device on COM5. Looks like there isn't any way to actually power on the GPS (no point, there isn't any programs that the Stellar ships with), it just comes on automatically when a program demands it. Quite clever really, I'm happy that it does this, though it could have been nice to have this better explained in the manual. The GPS bit in the manual is just about useless and I only found this out after putting Crux View on there andplaying about to see if I was getting NMEA data fed into it.
I've attached the Crux View program, it's a demo version, but useful for checking the thing is working! Just rename it to Crux_View.exe and copy the file to somewhere on your device. No installation needed!
