View Full Version : [Update 04/04/08! v1.07.02] Skinnable Analog Clock Today Plugin "Retro"

Hi, played around for a bit and got a new transparent clock.
in the screenshot there is a square background red and gold. it is not in the clock. I just put it there to show transparency.
300(vga)
216(portrait not landscape)
180(landscape)
Is there any possibilty that someone could remove the red layer or make it black and then resize it to 80 x 80? I am creating a homescreen for my Motorola Q and have no PC to use edit. Unless someone would like to attempt a windows mobile port of Redit. I will be happy to share the homescreen when it done.
Many thanks

Here are 2 variants of the mEarth clocks. mEarthA is a more traditional type clock with a second hand. mEarthB has a second hand in the form of the Hubble telescope, & has an earth/woman composite background. Both mEarthA & mEarthB have a ring which can be removed using REdit. Available sizes are:
mEarthA - 119sq, 198sq & 299sq
mEarthB - 120sq, 200sq & 299sq
Is it possible for you (or anyone else) to post the clock without the outer ring as I cannot get REdit to run on my phone? I'm mostly interested in the one with the satellite as second hand and a size of 200 pixel :)

I don't know how much times and many places i've written that, REDIT is to be run on your desktop PC, not on your phone :D

Yes, I see that now. I just tried to run it on my computer and it didn't run, so I thought it was meant for the phone :p

I don't know if I will ever update Retro again, xcept for fixing bugs, because I have got no time.
If I find some one that is interested on taking this project and bringing it ahead, maybe I'll release the sources.

Really good! No, actually one of the best designs I've seen!
The best way to make me go on with Retro is to spread it and see some use of it (for exapmle posting your clocks elsewhere).
If I see there's enough interest, I could also release the sources; I got various requests to implement digital date/time, making it identical to the standard WM date/time plugin... and I ain't got enough will to do depressing things like that :D
(I'll be putting this one on the first post...)

I'm not sure I'm getting it ... you want to have 2 instances of the plugin with different options? It's not blazing-easy to do... Meaning, not difficult, but it'll take some time...

It's not easy because I don't know another plugin that allows this. I should place my settings elsewhere (not on the usual software\microsoft\today registry key) and you should be able to access the plugin option screen directly from within WAD 2 and tell it each time you reboot which clock do you want and where.

Thank you soo muth,
I think that with my theme (you probably had already check it out) retro will be more used :) I have already 300 downloads of the the theme so that 's what i can do to make retro more used. It's a fantastic clock in my opinion.

I have tried making skins and editing existing skins: Redit sees my skins and displays them ok but anything I create is not visible when installed to device.
I am using Photoshop to create the .png files for Redit, and I also tried Photoshop Elements and Illustrator with the same results.
I can't seem to find anything in this thread or in the Redit help giving any speial requirements other than 16 bit color depth. Anyone have any ideas on what can be wrong?

Why would you want to???
In order to get that transparent look, you need to save the files as PNG-24. saving it as gif or png8 will not do full transparency.
It is a lot easyer to change that in photoshop, than doodling it on a ppc.
Also, I would post the PSD file for my transparent clock... but I can't find it anymore. sorry.

Well I was attempting to use that background and change the background layer of the 'diamond retro' skin by ezmike, I liked the hands he made and only wanted my new background, but when it displays on the device all the original components show except the new background.
In Redit everything shows properly. I made a few test hands and tried them on this and other existing skins using redit to the same end, which tells me its the format of the original .png file I am creating.

I tried to make a clock file using redit that is 240x160. I was trying to make use of the clock to take up some extra space on the sides. it worked flawless in redit, but it failed to work well on my ppc. the clock background showed up as it should, but the hands were all over the place. it worked in redit, why not on the ppc? is there a fix for that?
It was supposed to have 3circles like a dashboard... I would really like to make that clock.
any help?

the problem is a friggin' bug somewhere in the calculations that happens when you choose non-square clock sizes.
unfortunately this makes oval and "widescreen" clocks impossible to make, without also sacrificing equal vertical space

Hi
I have a question , i have created a 160*160 clock to use in Wad as a plugin, but it take all of my screen ,not juste 160px
Si i cant put anything on the right or the left of clock
If there a way to reduce size of plugin ?
For example : if i create a clock 128*128 sized ?WAd 2 reserved 128*128px
space for it , free space on sides on the clock .
Thx for replies

No, it's because the old version of REdit dinamically compiled to 64 bit code on vista 64, and zlib.dll is 32bit, and a 64bit program can't use a 32bit dll.

Really nice ones!
1) where can i find the nice icons you have under your clocks?
2) a smaller clock would be nice, to fit a calender under, but hm, after thinking about it, a simple program to slide between different todayscreens would be even greater (have a full calender on the next page), but i guess not that simple to make.
Anyway thanks for sharing. Analog clock is the shit

I know you are behind a big slice of Retro's popularity and I heartedly thank you.
It would have been beautiful to have working date and digital text the way I planned long time ago, but unfortunately I have got no time and willingness to put hands in Retro. It is difficult to do, especially skinned fonts. Lots of hassle and tedious bookkeeping in the code.
Besides that, I already said that if someone wants to contribute or "endorse" Retro, I'll give the sources away for the sake of human progress :D

Why won't somebody make a skinable digital clock today plugin? We can skin the clock on SPB, Throttle Launcher, TF3D, TF2D, HTC Home, and everything else, but what about JUST a skinable Digital clock without having to have a whole new GUI or program launcher. I like the plugins that I have, and I like the Skinable clocks, I don't want all that other stuff and I think TF3D is a joke as far as useability.

The problem now is which of all these great clock faces to use:confused::confused:
Some truly lovely designs for a superb piece of software, well done everyone;);
All the hard work is much appreciated:D:
Yes, thank you all so much, I can change the look of my flame according to my mood and how much time I have :D
Thank you all once again.

Just another clock by me, this time 384 x 384. Also very well vor WVGA. This is a ring clock. Don't know if I'm the first to come up with this idea. If so, you have to ask for my permission to use this design in the following 20 yearz :D
No - just do it. I support piracy. There you go:

It's almost summer. Why not add a little sunshine to your today screen. The Sun Clock is 120x120.

Hi! I just discovered the Retro program and these wonderful clocks. I have an HTC Touch HD and they look beatiful. I especially like the Bell & Ross as it looks like an aircraft clock. Has anyone seen a version with white numerals and hands, like a real one? I started trying to change the blue to white, working on the background image using GIMP, but I am having a hard time changing the color of the numerals and markings without messing up the feathered edges.
Thanks. :)

hello there
i ve been using smartphones and pocket pcs for the past 8-10 years and probably this is what i was looking for sinces ages
and thats why my first ever post is to praise it...
Very nice work.
there was a post that said
I tried the smartphone version; any chance you can add y position in xml and break the one-line per-plugin restriction, to place it side by side with other plugins (as in MadBeetle clock plugin)?
i wanted to request if there could be this same facility for pocket pc i.e if i could add it as a plugin in spb pocket plus and have small icons with it along the sides... cuz i use a small clock
and have many application shortcuts for ready referrence on the today screen
i was wondering if retro could use Spb times coding for his clock so it would add a very big functionality boost to ur excellent product....
looking forward
sincerely yours
Dr. Saad

Here is my rolex themed clock in 3 size.. 255x255, 186x186 and 122x122.
I liked many of clocks in this thread but did not come across this type of clock. Minute and hour hands are normal but second hand is the ring around the clock: it twist as time goes by.
Hope ya all like it

I have made modifications of some clocks found in this thread. Suited for qvga.
Eg. removed second arrow. Made one semi transparent. Resized.
