I've had a Cingular 8525 since Jan. of last year, and it worked flawlessly. I was interested in updating it to Windows Mobile 6, and posted a few questions on the forum under the Windows Mobile 6 forum for my device. However, as of recently the phone started to just go totally white when I would try to use the phone after pulling it out of my pocket, etc. I knew this was a common issue with the 8525, and a hard reset usually solved the problem with no issue. However, it kept happening more often. Sometimes even a hard reset wouldn't help. So, I called up the warranty division at AT&T and they agreed to send me a new AT&T 8525. I got it in the mail today. Great. New phone. I'm happy about that for sure, because the white screen issues won't happen anymore.
Here comes the problem. I'm sure most people (if not everyone) know that if you don't have any data plan on your account with Cingular/AT&T, the original Cingular 8525 would allow you data access if you set it up correctly. My old 8525 connects to the Internet, and I don't have a data package, and never have. I never get billed for it, and I've been doing it forever. My replacement 8525 when setup with these settings that I've been using fails to work. PIE will connect to the network, but it locks up at "Locating..." and then eventually spits and error that the remote computer disconnected.
As much as I hate to do it, I want to downgrade the AT&T firmware on the replacement phone they sent me back down to the Cingular firmware. Currently, the firmware I have on the old 8525 is ROM version 1.34.502.1, Radio version: 1.16.00.00. Is there any way to do it to my replacement 8525 with ease? I searched around and didn't find much step-by-step information, so if someone could kindly post exact instructions for me, I would greatly appreciate. I would be more than willing to search around some more and learn as much as possible about the process, but I really want to get this completely working with no errors before the weekend is over. Thanks.
