upgrading to wm6 but keeping wm5 radio version?

i just got my htc replaced because i corrupted my hermes when i upgraded the radio. i was wondering if i upgrade everything except for the radio (ie: schaps) will it still grab the signal 110% of the time?

ROM version: 2.15.502.3
radio version: 1.40.30.00
htc hermes // att wireless
