ATOM WM 6 AND WM 6.1 ROM COOKING TUTORIAL
nb: try it at your own risk,.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
- Hypercore Kitchen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310076)
- Garmin XDA ATOM ROM Cooking Sets (UPDATED 14/03/08) (http://rapidshare.com/files/99367619/Garmin_XDA_ATOM_Cooking_Sets__14032008_.rar.html)
ADD-ON
- WM 6.1 SYS files (http://rapidshare.com/files/88850555/HERMES_DEV_v2.1_Build_19199.rar)
Usage Of Hypercore Kitchen
- Creates OEM and anything related to OEM
Usage of ATOM WM6 Kitchen
- Dump your diskimage_ver.nb0
- Build your new diskimage_ver.nb0
Already have it all?? Alright, now lets start working,.
1. Extract "Garmin XDA ATOM Cooking Sets" to somewhere you like, (There will be an original OEM and SYS folder, don't erase those, it required for dumping process,.)
2. Put your diskimage_ver.nb0 into ROM folder, (overwrite the original file there,.)
3. Run "DumpFiles.cmd" , (Then you'll see a working progress, until it ask you to press any key) ---- press any key then,.
4. There will be a new window come named "Package Tool", then Open where the "dump" folder is located, (The package tool help you build your OEM and DSM,.)
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd142/heaven_approach/Empat.png
5. Go to \Tools\Build Package, you will not see a working progress, when the content of the Package tool was changed, ITS DONE!!, and your diskimage_Ver.nb0 was dumped,.
(The original OEM and SYS folder will be gone,.)
--- Now go to "dump" folder and you'll see OEM and SYS folder ---
nb : If there are some files outside OEM / SYS folder, put it where it should by reading the last line of your package tool, after building a package,.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd142/heaven_approach/Lima.png
----------> means that these file should be in \SYS\NetCF folder,.
OKAY, take a rest first, have some experience with that OEM and SYS folder,.
You may change, add or remove some folder there, but BECAREFUL, some of them are SYSTEM file!!!
Satisfied experience with OEM and SYS folder?? Lets Continue,.
6. Now move your OEM and SYS folder (inside "dump" folder), to the first page (Where the original OEM and SYS is located)
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd142/heaven_approach/Enam.png
7. Run "BuildOS.cmd" (You will see a new window "BulidOS",.) press the green button,.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd142/heaven_approach/Tujuh.png
8. When done, (you could see on the bottom left corner, written "Done"), close the BuildOS by pressing the [X] Button, (dont close the BuildOS.cmd)
9. You will see in the BuildOS.cmd, a progress, wait till it ask you to press any key,. ----- Press any key then,.
10. There you are, your new diskimage_Ver.nb0 is inside "FLASH" folder,.
Nb: For a tutorial about building an OEM, could be seen HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345964), and How To Port XIP and SYS folder, could be seen HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357249),.
nb: For WM 6.1 Cooking, you couldn't DUMP your ROM, because it removes all manifest to be one,.
GOOD LUCK,.
Happy ROM Cooking to all of you,.

the problem is where you get "your diskimage_ver.nb0" ?????? you will have to use an "already built" diskimage_ver.nb0 (like jiggs') and modify his rom, you can not create your own rom with another build like 5.2.1933 or else, I was trying to make a new rom from a new build but I wasn't successfull. Jiggs told me to read the wiki, but maybe I didn't do my homework so well. :(

It shouldn't be any problem mate,.
You could use any diskimage_ver.nb0 to dump,.
look at my new ROM (O2 Atom WM6 Premium), it was dumped from jiggs WM6 AKU 0.7a,.
Just use mine mate, (from O2 Atom WM6 Premium), its dumpable,. ;)

This is really different from what we used to cook for xda 2. How I wish cooking for an atom is as easy as cooking for an xda 2. :)
Anyway, good luck to all who would like to attempt cooking their own ROM. I'll just look at those available in here and copy those that I think will fit me best. :)
BTW, I hope somebody can teach me how to change the splash images. I would like to replace them with pictures of my family.

I know it,I know that your diskimage_ver.nb0 is dumpable (don't you see the rom I built pReDrT ?)
what I want to say is , you can not build your own diskimage_ver.nb0 based on a new build (for example 5.2.1933, the newest build), what you do is dumping a built diskimage_ver.nb0 from jiggs (the original one) which's build is 5.2.1908, don't you see that ???????
To build a new rom with a new build, it costs an arm and a leg, so much time spends on it. It's not easy as you said, but I really appreciate what you share here. :p

Yes , the files go to windows directory automatically
First download Ervius Packages Creator..
..say you want to include TCPMP in your ROM , You first need to Unzip all the files that TCPMP installs to a folder ..now open Ervius Packages Creator..navigate to folder .add a shortcut (option in the packages software..)
and click create package..now copy the folder to the OEM folder and build ROM..
Hope you get the idea..:)

You can obviously create Custom Cabs and run put em in extended ROM for installing in program files..
You can search for OEM packages on the site.. u ll find plenty...
I am still learning so do pass on the knowledge..
Going a bit OT - Are you the one who made the DSU installed for ROM installation?? :)

you will specify it in initflashfiles.dat, but you will have a double copy. The purpose of putting it to ROM is to have all the applications you need and consume less persistent storage vis-a-vis installing the cabs after a hardreset. However, having too many files in \windows will cause your system to lag; so, this is the purpose of utilizing the extended ROM wherein the skin files (like wireless manager / htc home / mediaplus) can be placed in the extended ROM and the program files in \windows.

To add a new appz, you have to make your appz (appz that you would like to have as a default appz) as an OEM,.
How do we make an OEM? i am working on it, i'll post it here soon,.
all the files there (inside SYS and OEM folder) will go to windows directory, then if you would like to move something to program files directory, you have to make an "initflashfiles.txt",. (usually for your OEM)
for example,
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("coldinit.lnk","\Windows\coldinit.lnk")
----- > it means that you copy file "coldinit.lnk" to \windows\startup folder,.
hope that help you,.

-=[serialzs]=-
It wont go anywhere, as long as we dont make a "initflashfiles.txt" for our apps (that have been changed to OEM), the shorcut of the apps wont go anywhere, it still in windows folder, (so, it wont be displayed in the main menu)

Yep, absolutely you could, i am working a new ROM with upgrade of XIP to 5.2.1933 at the moment, if it success, i'll update the thread,.
but it havent finished, so the thread just till extracting and repacking,.

Change the pagepool of the ROM template on your kitchen, then you don't have to worry each time.

Jiggs will be a history already right? Well, guess you wanna have some peace so hope everyone can respect this :)
Recently read some news abt the 2nd edition of wm6, is more like a patch than a upgrade. So hope Jiggs can still assist us in this which will be release in the 1stQ of 2008 which is SOON. Yeah!! :)

One more question, anyone can teach me how to create the format to flash with memory card? While trying with new cooking, it took a long time just to check a thing with full flashing.
hint: flashing ROM without bootloader and extended ROM: extract your downloaded rom to a folder, put eboot.nbO, nova_pda_033105.mot, ExtendedRom.img out of the "uprom tools" folder before you flash rom. When the flashing reach 100% there'll be an error occurs, this is normal. Just unplug the cable, then hard reset your device, you will have a new rom with your old bootloader, old extendedROM.
attention: before flashing using the method above, you have to put the device into bootloader mode (camera+reset).

Hello everybody !!
I'm a user of a MIO P550, which are two clones : The Airis T620 and the Yakumo DeltaX. These three pda are on wm5.
I compared the rom on my PDA with various ROMS, and i have noticed that the characteristics of my pda are the same ones as eten X.500.
I haved try to upgrade my pda with ETEN X.500 wm6 rom , but the pda does not start any more: S
I do not want to repair my pda, but I will like to know if you had ideas, to return this rom compatible with my pda
Great great thanks !!

Hi kaidi,
I never got the chance to use this. Could you try this? it works for the atom exec. might work for atom. it has options which part to update. btw, the drop down box does not respond to the click of the mouse you just have to press arrow down for the options.

Wow, looks like an interesting weekend project for me to try, although I'm having a hard time in understanding how to add your own applications, please let me know if my understanding is correct.
After you've dumped the ROM, there is an OEM and SYS folder, in the OEM folder there are the applications you can remove or add there;
1) Using the cab analiser in hypercore kitchen,
2) Extract all the files from the cab you wish to install under XML to a New folder
3) Change the registry settings for ATOM and copy to another text file
4) Create GUID name and save as .rgu
5) Create another blank document and save as GUID name.dsm
6) Create initflashfiles.txt
7) Copy nbew registry settings file, .rgu, .dsm and initflashfiles.txt into New folder with extracted cab files
8) Copy New folder with all files inside back to OEM folder
9) Run BuildOS.cmd to create new diskimage_Ver.nb0
10) Put diskimage_Ver.nb0 back to original folder where EBOOT, EXTROM, UPDATE.EXE etc. are located.
11) Run update to flash ROM
Now, this is my understanding which is probably wrong, so please have patience :)
Very wonderful guide thx mr Garmin

Thx garmin. Yup im was registered on ipmart but not really active there ;)
btw i finally manage to extract wm6.1 and already try to use it.
but seem the "Get Started" doesn't work maybe because i removed the netcf due to the rgu.
so i have some question.
1. Where i can find netcf 3.5 package
2. How to change the 1st splash screen
3. If i added an package do i need to include it on map.txt ??
Thx again :)

Get Started on 19716 is not working anymore. I 'd taken from 19199...
1. Get NetCF 3.5 (http://rapidshare.com/files/84409271/NetCF.3.5.rar.html)
2. The splash screen size is 230,454 bytes (decimal) which means you need to replace the one found in nk.exe starting point is BM6 (search in text string option). Use hex editor - easy as select whole 230,454 bytes starting BM6, then delete. Cut and paste from your new bitmap screen into nk.exe same location
3. No need anymore...

wow thx mate and you even notified me with your pm :)
i already try the get started from build 19199 but its still not work, maybe its because the netcf was not installed.
the error was "'welcomecenter' is not a valid Pocket PC application"
2. Thx already found the bmp and change the splash screen but i have problem, garmin cooking set was not have included xip.bin, so i take the xip.bin from the old garmin kitchen and i a little confuse how to insert the modified xip.bin to the new garmin cooking set or to the nb
and are the atom xip.bin for wm6 and wm6.1 are the same ??
thx again mate :)
NB: Thx garmin for updating the kitchen. will try it right now :)

Wow! That's really fantastic, hopefully you will be able to guide us newbies in continuing to cook good Atom ROMs as experienced people like yourself and uday have no more Atom :( But hopefully those trying to cook Atom ROMs will post here for us to test and keep our old Atom going for at least 1 or 2 more years :D
edit: Tried the cooking sets for both wm6 and wm6.1, BuildOS doesn't work and I'm not too sure what's happening so any advice is appreciated. I used Garmin's WM6 Premium Touch and WM6.1 Last present for the dumping process, both gets dumped fine with some missing rgu messages, made sure both OEM and SYS folders are in the main folder where dump/build is, did not change or edit any files in OEM and SYS folder for testing purpose. When I click on Build, the command prompt shows Stop, Run BuildOS first. This happens for both WM6 and 6.1 cooking sets, could my pc be missing any files, I think .NET is needed but I do update Windows regularly so I think it should have .NET installed.

First make sure you have installed net framework 2
and have the sys and oem to the main folder not the dump
after you run build.cmd the buildos will run
and you need to press the play(triangle)button to start the build
after that you close the buildos and the command prompt will resume and
after it finish it you will have nb0 in the flash folder

Yup, have .NET framework 2 SP1 installed, I attached a screenshot to show what happens after I run Build.cmd, buildos.exe refuses to run and I'm not sure why.
For testing purpose, I added a few applications under OEM and changed the welcomehead.96 screen. If I use other versions of buildos.exe like the one from hypercore kitchen, it runs, but the .nb0 file under Flash folder seems to be a copy of the original ROM b'cos when I flashed it, the additional programs does not show up and the splash screen is the same as the original ROM.

well im new at this :)
my suggestion was reinstall the netframework 2 and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&DisplayLang=en)
and dont forget to delete all rom files in windows\temp
cos some dsuu does create the file to windows\temp first
if there already the files there it will use the files in windows\temp
it happen to me once,my atom was upgraded to atom exec rom due to the exec rom in the windows\temp folder :D

Press any key to continue . . .
is it right? whats wrong with it?

^^haha, that's the exact problem I faced. I managed to solve it though, thanks pdafre4k! :D
Follow the link pdafre4k gave, download and install .NET framework 3.5, and it solved my problems. Make sure your OEM and SYS folders are in the main folder, you can refer to my screenshot here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1946085&postcount=62) and it should work :)
A question though, after I dump the ROM I built, and try using the package tool, when it creates the OEM and SYS folders, all files are in the SYS folder with none in the OEM. Can I just simply move the folders from SYS to OEM, will it corrupt my build later on?
And if I have a non-english ROM, how can I change the language? I tried searching but the search function doesn't really work properly nowadays. I tried replacing the mui to 409(eng) but when I use the package tool, it still shows as a non-english ROM, which other files must I change?
Thanks all for your help so far...

Happened to me as well, but for a different file, I just deleted that file from the dump folder, seems that it's a duplicate and the package tool can't overwrite it or something. If I'm not wrong, it was marked as read-only.
Can you and whoever else who has cooked their own ROM post some screenshots? Interested to know how others cook their ROM, I have not flashed mine yet, afraid I'll brick my phone. I try to do so over the weekend though ;)

What rom are you using for dumping??in garmin rom there are oem folder with many package inside. and i think you can move from sys to oem but becareful not to mess with the os package

The search here really doesnt work for me too :D,try go to google and choose forum.xda-developers.com for the site and search it but sorry cant help you with changing language :)

just delete one of the file cos you can only have one file at the same name.
btw dont be afraid to upgrade your atom :). cos i flashed it many times and bricked mine a couple time but luckily the solution was just go to bootloader and upgrade again using the original rom :)
and for safe and faster update be sure to update the os files only by using dsuu.exe from pdaviet rom
another problem..
any solution?

Hi all, thanks for you to use my COOKING SETS,.
About "already exist file"
- Means that you have 2 files with the same name, try to close all buildOS, then search the file in OEM or SYS folder (there must be two files with the same name)
About "BuildOS cant run"
- You need to install the latest NET Compact Framework from microsoft
(thanks to pd4fre4k, for providing the link)
About "Cant dump my wm 6.1 ROM"
- my kitchen, removes all manifest and rgu automatically, so i recommend you to use the original files (that i have attached "WM 6.1 SYS Files"), so, after you cook the ROM, and it become "diskimage_Ver.nb0", you cant dump it,.
- try to use the sys files from where i attached, then use the oem files from my "HTC Atom WM6 Premium" and g'reloc, then build,.
Enjoy,.

Has anyone fixed Activesync via bluetooth issues in previous rom builds? if so how.. I compare registry with a working rom and all seems fine but what I have noticed is where in previous roms selecting "com port 5" would result in an error msg, "this port is in use please choose another port" or something like that. In 19949 (at least in my version) I can select any port without the error msg which seems strange considering irda use port 2 or 3. Anyhow if some guru can shine light on this I will have an almost bug free rom, cheers.

hi.
please, somebody tell me can i use this tool to dump Atom Exec rom (downloaded in the next tread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433600))?
because if I do....:
seems like package tool doesn't work for me.
After I shows the dump folder, PT writes:
[Selected Path]
C:\Atom Roms\Garmin WM 6.1 Cooking Sets\dump
[Core OS]
[Versions]
[Language]
[DPI]
[Certificates]
[Missing Manifests]
than I go to tools -> build package and that's all: PM makes two folders SYS and OEM in the dump folder and nothing more happens. Content of SYS is 3 small folders, OEM-folder is empty at all. I wait for long enough: still nothing. Build package item is gray. :(
thnx

i've read entire post in this thread, also the other thread which Link is provided here. and i have a few QUESTION....
1. Can We port WM6.5 using all of this thread provided? how to? what is the different?
2. How much Mb pagepool we need to have a stable WM6.5 ROM? i have tried several Khoa_Ha WM6.5 ROM. it is beautifull, but... always restart when the battery under 50%, or...in the middle when i'm Browsing the internet.
3. what needed to be removed when we wanna 28-30 Mb free RAM after soft reset? i mean, like ULDR partition... if there were. (sorry, i'm Blind of Cooking)
4. how to make STK Works (i need the mobile banking feature)?
5. will there is Someone kind enough to give me the right direction of cooking?
pardon me for asking this, also for my bad English....
