I bought the HTC 6800 from Bell about a month ago, and it seems to be quite buggy. Often times my keys won't respond, my wifi won't connect, my email won't work, etc. All causing me to have to restart. Also there is a text message stuck in my outbox, which keeps resending and I cannot delete/move it, so it is constantly sending to the person.
I'm wondering what my options are for "upgrading" and how I would go about this?
Should upgrading or updating the ROM have any effect? It just doesn't seem "stable" like it should be.

If you just got it and it is doing all that I would send it back and get a new one!
JMHO!

you could try a custom rom.
mine is customized for sprint, but i could make a cab to change to bell.

Would upgrading to a new rom cause any ill effects? Do I need to unlock the phone before I can do that?

If it is acting that wonky I would suggest (if you have your stuff backed up) a hard reset (hold in both soft buttons while pressing the reset button). If that doesn't work, I would exchange it.

Okay, I hard reset it. If I'm having any more problems I'll make a most and most likely take it back to see if I can have it replaced.
Thanks for the help!
Also, does installing a new rom help with the stability of the device, or is a new rom just because people prefer the different roms for their features, etc.?

Custom roms are just that custom, some are stripped down and some have every bell and whistle you can imagine, as far as stability goes, some roms are more stable and fix things that are broken in the factory rom but sometimes they are less stable, it all depends really most if not all of the custom roms out there beta.
If you like clean and stable check out DCD's rom, I've been using it for quite sometime and it is real clean and stable for the most part, also seems to fix the majority of any BT issues that this device has. If you like a rom that crams as much stuff as you can imagine check out colonels rom out over on ppcgeeks, I've used this one as well, but for me there was just too much stuff. YMMV
edit: If you try any custom roms don't forget to unlock your phone first.
