My TyTN II is frozen at the Smart Mobility screen and restarts constantly. I have tried soft restart, hard restart and nothing changes. When it happened I had to soft reset my phone after my "Phone in the phone" stopped working proplerly. I hit the soft reset button and the it just freezes in Smart Mobility and then restarts, vibrates, freezes and etc.. Soft restet does not do anyting, hard reset goes through the process of cleaning and reseting and then nothing, the same problem keeps coming up. Does anyone have any ideas?

did you tried to flash an original ROM from manufacturer in the tricolor boot-loader ? i think this is the only way to make it work again first, although I didn't tried b4.

i think the root cause is, your ROM is incomplete or corrupted, you can't update any 3rd party ROM because only special 'blank' boot-loader will eat 'em. so, what you need to do is to find an original ROM suit your hardware.

You can enter bootloader by doing this:

Hold down the camera button and reset device with the stylus. Release the reset and continue holding the camera button until you see a tricolor bootloader screen.

Removing sim + SD before flashing. If that doesn't help, they seem to suggest to flash from SD in that thread.

Which radio ROM did you use to flash onto your ELFin? And you have flashed your ELFin with the Blue Touch ROM V3.02 which is meant for the original Touch (ELF) ROM. This is causing the problem.

Try to flash to the Blue ELFin ROM V2.01 from the download link found in my signature to correct it. IF this failed, lok for the original French ELFin ROM and flash it to your device using bootloader mode.

You are 100 percent true I did use a wrong ROM !
It's easy to mix-up & mess up between ELF / ELFIN = TOUCH / TOUCH XL...

Swiftblade, i was trying to flash your new ROM v4 but it failed. I had your previous version installed.
USPL didn't work(it was stuck with pingvin screen) so now i'm stuck in bootloader.
IPL is 1.11.0002
SPL is 1.11.0000

What shoud I do. Shoud I try hard reset first or mtty?

In this case, I don't think you need to use mtty.

1, Pls remove SDHC card if any.

2, Reset your device to 3 colors mode

In boot-loader mode, the WM6 device actually communicated with PC directly with the ROM flash program. activesync no connection is right. My experience in Vista I need to disable activesync before running the original ROM updater to flash my Touch in 3 colors mode.

mtty reset is to make your machine returning to normal booting if your device don't. so, suppose there is nothing to do after reset device in mtty console.

or if your device can't boot normally causing by failed flash, you have to then get your device into 3 colors mode and flashing an original ROM to rescue your device.

different senario get different approach, there is no single method. pls tell me your situation, people in this forum will try best to help, but suppose you guys should search and read posts here first. if you try every methods you can but still failed, we will try to help.

Well same problem here indeed. I brought back my phone yesterday. Going to take 3weeks. Don't expect too much. If you would have the original ROM, maybe your touch will recover.

You can try flashing the DOPODASIA Rom, maybe it will work.....

thanks for your reaction. I'll tell you my situation.

I had the Blue Elfin Rom 2.01 installed. Undergoing several problems. Update the RadioROM, this worked after 5 times of flashing. After this still experiencing problems. Hardreset. Still problems. Reflashed device (something went wrong around here). Now can't flash any ROM from bootloader. Even a dumped original ROM for my t-mobile touch XL did not work.

Yesterday I returned my phone to the store. Hoping it will be repaired (hope warranty) Have to wait three weeks. (do you have experience with this, or heard any anything about the policy when returning phone?

Thought I was out of options.

Biggest problem is I can't get my phone CID unlocked. Thats why I need the Original. Or is there an other way to get the touch unlocked. Is the way by trying flashing with SD-card an option, think that one would be my last option.

My HTC Touch has been locked for two days and asking for password that I don't know because I didn't set any. Soft reset didn't work, hard reset didn't run. Removing the battery also didn't help. I doesn't shut down, receive calls but nothing else. No password I know worked.

I wanted to try flashing a ROM (shadow 1.1) but couldn't because the device is not accessable via USB or something else! Thus, i wanted to try "mtty" way but I couldn't go after the second step, there appears a message "USB is not reachable".

we need an original rom dumped from another phone or oficial from htc wesite... but wesite is not giving nothing and on hte forum i could not find too...

New sim in the unit, enter the code: no problemo!
Could call reboot etc etc, all oke.

Got new FW, updated Touch and all oke!
No problem! could call, browse the Net and tried a couple reboots.

With Sprite backup put al my contacts back, phone rebooted and...
Tri color screen :eek::eek:

Tried to reflash and HOURS of trying and waiting on downloads...

In my case it was a simple solution..... :D

PUSH BOTH call BUTTONS AND THE reset!!
PUSH THE MIDDLE BUTTON ON REQUEST, and your done...

I downloaded an original dump version 1.13.111.4 GER I've found in the archive forum but I get allways the same error message (error 270).
I must add that when reading informations on the device, it doesn't find any previous image version ...
When I try mtty.exe, the password "BsaD5SeoA" is not recognised !?
Is there a special pw for each rom version ?
Is there an utility to read the pw ?

Hi Guys, I have a Black Touch Elf (STD, GSM) and have spent hours on this gr8 forum searching for solutions. The phone is dead and CID locked.

I can only access boot loader. I have tried flashing with SD only (1gb) but just get the Tri Color screen after a quick "accessing the SD card" message.

I am trying the MTTY.exe but the flash just hangs at 0%.

So I'm all out of Ideas. My Tri Color screen looks the same as the one in this thread (Same SPL/IPL) Correcton: My IPL/SPL is as follows.

Oh, I also tried extracting the .nbh from another rom to use with the SD card flashing because I read somewhere that you can use any rom with this method and not only the original rom. Any suggestions please?

I have the same problems as you guys, tried mtty, tried more than 20 different rom's including the so-called original once. Also tried more than 10 rom's via the sd card method.

But looking at your device 1 thing seems different in mtty than me "g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0" with me it says "g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = FF". I think ..." = 0" means that the phone is cid unlocked and " ...= FF" means it is CID locked. So in your case it should mean you can upload customer ROM's since the device is unlocked. But I guess you tried a lot of rom's as well?

I'm having the same problem...entering the password worked for me once, and I was able to reset my device and "RUU" appeared on the upper right hand corner of my screen while in bootloader. I tried downloading one ROM version; it didn't work; I went back into bootloader screen; tried mtty again; but now I get the same thing as sergiy02@yandex.ru. I've rebooted everything multiple times. Thoughts? Thanks!!

Update - I was able to figure out how to get this to work. First, instead of copying and pasting the password, I manually typed it, and that worked. Second, I typed ruurun 1 instead of ruurun 0, and that made it reboot with RUU showing up in the bootloader screen. But - still - I can't download any of the ROMs! Any way to roll back the changes in IPL/SPL, or change them at all? Can't think of where else to go with this...Thanks...

Both ROMS didn't work after 3% it reboots. No t-mobile logo on screen anymore, i can only see smart mobility, it giver ERROR[244], INVALID MODEL ID.

Did you remove your sd card befor flashing? If not you should.
I really can't tell. Those 1.11. ROM's should work as far as I know.
The problem might be frequent flashing with different rom's.
Did you try flashing from sd card?
Extract .nbh file from 1.11 rom and do as described here:

I'm desperately in need of some help!
My Touch (Elf) is stuck in the 'smart mobility' screen.
I can it get running in the tri-color bootloader screen with USB connection but without 'RUU' in the upper left corner.
I have tried all ROMs I could find in this thread, but all failed.
I also tried booting from my SD card, but also without any luck.

I got that when SD card was not empty (just ROM file inside) or is not format compatible. Has to be FAT32 (im trying different Cluster Size for better compatibility, formatting in an other device with POCKET MECHANIC)

Hi Andrew,

Was upgrading my HTC Touch from Blue V4.0 to Blue Elves V5.0 . Did so successfully. worked great for some time but the mobile network signals weren't coming so I pressed the ON/OFF button. After that I am stuck !! The phone goes blank after showing the 'Smart Mobility' message. On pressing the camera button, I get the tricolour page showing IPL 2.02.0002 and SPL 1.11.000.

Downloaded and ran MTTY and input as you said.

The device resets after DeviceReset command but same status.
Can you guide me how to proceed from here. Anyone have a link to the OEM ROM for HTC Elf 64/128 ROM 2.20.720.2B wwe Dt 2/10/2007 Radio 03.07.90 Protocol 4.1.13.51 Ext ROM 2.20.720.103 ? Even then , how to start the download ?

Guys if you are stuck like I was, get a copy of the original ROM that was on the device, run MTTY as per andrew's instructions , reboot and flash the original ROM. magically, the Elf will start booting . Then, after the panic dies, take a deep breath and re-flash the ROM of your choice.

while i wait for my overwhelmingly slow internet to download an original ROM for my elfin, i'm trying to solve the problem using the MTTY. but even there i have trouble.
after setting everything up like (i think) i am supposed to, i press ok (or tap enter, or space) and mtty gives me an error message "USB port can not open"
and goes blank.

i've tried another "unbricking" method, using splxploit-windows, as i found in another thread, and the error is similar.
although splxploit is not as user friendly as mtty i.e. no graphics, it seems to do the same thing. there's a line that says the program can't find "\\.\WCEUSBSH001" which is the same USB adress we can see on the printscreen from mtty in the first post.

i think that means my elfin doesn't have that wce or whatever in it, but i really really really hope i'm wrong.

oh, almost forgot, i'm using vista, so the settings are not exactly the same, and the driver for the pda is different (i think)


please someone enlighten me.
i have a pc with xp if thats what it takes.
but please oh please help, my father is gonna kill me if he finds out i bricked my brand new elfin (got it 2 days ago :()

I was trying to change my pagepool and when I tried to dump back the edited image to my htc touch (elfin champagne color) phone froze.then I reset the device and it got stuck on the smart mobility screen.

I tried this method (mtty.exe) when I'm in bootloader mode .works great in terms of the output on the PC screen.but device is stuck @ 0% and deas not go further.and when I cmd>resetdevice, device
restarts but again gets stuck on smart mobility.

by the way my IPL 2.20.0002 and SPL 2.20.0000

I tried many original roms and I would get error 240(invalid vendor ID).

I also tried "Elf SD Card flashing"

once I try to get in to bootloader it says checking contents of SD card and then goes to tri color bootloader showing above mentioned IPL and SPL(also did format SD to fat32)

i saw that ur device is CID UNLOCKED, in theory u can flash any rom.

Yes, I did run the CID unlocker and I found 3 ROMs I can flush with. However, after the ROM logo, my touch just turns off by itself regardless which ROM I am using, I really dont understand why, please someone enlighten me of what need to be done to bring my touch back ... :(

Ok I took my last touch back to the shop after the stuck in bootloader mode and somehow convinced them in very broken french that the phone was dead when i bought it, and they exchanged it. It looks like your device is CID UNLOCKED, so have u try to run an original RUU update from windows?

Put ur device in bootloader mode, connect to USB, USB sign most appear at the left bottom of ur device. Then run any of this original updates.

Yes, good luck - but remember, a dumped rom which has been repackaged will still give "270" errors if your phone still checks the certificate. I've had the correct ROM for my phone as CyZeeK says, but I can't flash it. Anyone want to buy a brick??

I have been through several homebrew romssince I got this phone, including two retail 2 original ones. Most recently Surface than Shadow 2.0 . I was trying to upgrade to Shadow 2.1 but it keeps erroring out that it can't communicate with my device once the install actually starts occuring every time I try to CID unlock. I even tried getting a factory ROM same error. I tried 2 cables and 3 PC's. I have recovered the tricolor screen more time than I want to admit tonight. I have the soft black elf original specs. what i did was to type password BsaD5SeoA and hit enter in the mtty console.
if the SDInit - SD ver2.00 is like this that mean you have succeted, if it fails then you have to format your storage card with fat32.

Could be true if the device is SUPERCID or the ROM match with the DEVICE ID and CID ID.

If you capture the packets between your pc and the device when you run that command and then de-hex them you should get something like this:

If you have extracted your CID and Device ID and the ROM isn't in the list for the post above there is a possibility that someone like Olipro could write you a handset/device specific custom hard SPL / CID Unlock to get you working agan.

Hi, you have g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0, that's good, because the USPL is ready, you only need flash the USPL for ELFIN again, then you SPL change to 2.20 and you device back to live again.

Hi, you have g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = FF, that's bad, because the device is blocked, you need know you Original version ROM, IPL & SPL.
whit this can find the Original ROM and try again.
do you know the original ROM ?
example, my original ROM is 2.20.405.1R WWE.

I have almost the same problem. My device is turning off at Windows start up screen. I tried loading different roms but none works. (the result is the same=device shuts down at windows startup screen).
I wanted to try mtty.exe to see if I have bad blocks or anything like this but the result after I put the password in is :

I believe if you're using vista ... then that's your problem. I've tried all sorts of methods with vista and it doesn't flash. It recovered using xp.

Ok All those whose devices stuck at start up(i.e)smart mobility screen. First thing that u can only flash with the orignal Rom. The Custom Rom would'nt work.
First you should know whic DEVICE & CID ID of your device. To get your dEVICE & CID ID go to this Link. The step by step procedure is decribed here.

After you know ur DEVICE & CID ID the download the matching Rom from here

After u down load the the Rom reset the phone in Tricolour mode & run the Rom to flash it on your device. I also bricked my device & recove it with this methed. Just remeber one thing u can only flash with the orignal Rom in this case

Hello, I changed Pool Memory Size to 4MB following XDA post, but the procedure failed and the ActiveSync don’t detect my HTC Touch phone and I don’t have recovery the backup that I did before the procedure. The battery indicator in the home screen has exclamation symbol, the phone and wifi doesn’t work. :(
I did reset using mtty procedure in this post but my phone has the same problem. How to use the command PDOCWRITE without ActiveSync, how to recover the backup in .nb file using mtty application. My phone information is

The same happened with my Elfin. I was a very happy boy playing with my toy, trying lots of different roms and everything was great.
My last rom was the Blue Elves but it was little bit slow so I tried the pagepool trick. I did the procedure and then when I restarted the phone everything stoped to work.
I'm able to turn the phone on, WM 6.1 came up but it cant start anything. No programs. Also it disconected my radio, cant read the SD card, start USB. Now it is just a expensive brick that flicks.

I understand that it just messed only with the WM because more than once I received the message "Not pagepool to do whatever". Well, the message is like that, not exactly that. So looks like it just can't start the routines to have the hardware functions working.

I don't have the original rom, only the dump I made before my first "upgrade" but I'm not able to make it a ROM due an error in one DLL (on the process to build the rom: C:\HTC\its>BuildImgfs.exe / Unable to load compression DLL!). I tried several times in several OS (from Win 98 to Vista) and dont work.
If someone has any tip to share, I will apreciate. I'm thinking in use a kitchen to build this room but I'm not sure if it will works because of the *.nbh signature.

But what I need now is the original ROM from my elfin.
I looked around and no one has it.

The details are:

DEVICE ID: ELF010050
CID ID: BSTAR502

It came from Claro (brazilian carrier) but I heard that Brasil Telecom's shipped Elfin have the same ID and CID from the ones shipped by Claro.

Also, someone knows how to navigate into HTC's ftp site? Because the listing (ls or dir) is not available so you go blind.
I know the structure is: ftp.htc.com/romcodes/"Device model"/RUU_whatever.exe but not sure exacly.

Just recovered my HTC Elfin after a bad Radio Flash. I used RUU_Elfin_DOPODASIA_WWE_2.20.707.1B_4.1.13.51_03.0 7.90_BLUE_Ship_Reduced.exe
and it worked like a charm. I was worried that I had me a new shiny brick, but apparently a lot of reading, help and elbow grease made it work.

I put the HTC-touch in the cradle and after pushing the POWER and CAMERA- keys I got the tricolor RUU boot-loader and in the lower white part came the text USB.

After that i could upgrade my device.

Após uma atualizaçao mal feita por mim, usei uma rom que não era do ELF o meu celular travou.
Li muito e realmente não conseguia fazer a atualização novamente.
Bom com ajuda do forum + dedução lógica descobri que para recuperar é muito facil.
Voce da um reset no seu celular e segure ao iniciar a tecla camera ao lado no celular.
Entrara em modo atualização ou seja as telas coloridas de 3 cores.
Conecte em seu computador e com uma atualização original baixada do site da htc voce conseguira atualizar sem maiores problemas.Depois de atualizado voce conseguira por qualquer outra ROM.
Eu ja fiz este procedimmento 3 vezes e sem problemas.

i put my Touch in Bootloader mode and execute RUU_Elf_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.1B_4.1.13.42_02.93.90_Shi p.exe directly.
When the utility show the information about the ROM say nothings in the actual ROM and the new information of the ROM that i tried to update.
then give the error that i said "Error 300 invalid tool update"

did you tried to flash an original ROM from manufacturer in the tricolor boot-loader ? i think this is the only way to make it work again first, although I didn't tried b4.

i think the root cause is, your ROM is incomplete or corrupted, you can't update any 3rd party ROM because only special 'blank' boot-loader will eat 'em. so, what you need to do is to find an original ROM suit your hardware.

will try this out... but arent the ipl and spl messed up... i remember that before bricking my elf the ipl was 1.11.0002 and spl was 1.11.0000. is this relevant. my spl got messed up after using the wrong rom...

Still nothing :(

formatted as FAT 32
copied ELF0IMG.nbh to the root
checked that there was nothing else on the card.
tried using a 128mb and 1gb card

still 'searching for SDcard' flashes for a second and then the tricolor screen comes back.

isnt this strange. before I bricked my phone IPL was 1.11.0002 and SPL was 1.11.0000

when i try running a rom such as

the whole flashing process completes successfully but then the device returns back to the tricolor screen. i read on some other thread that this IPL SPL combination could be incompatible. my guess is that the flashing process is running fine, but the ipl spl combination is preventing the phone from starting up.

is there any way i can upgrade downgrade the IPL/SPL at the tricolor screen.

present IPL/SPL combination is the one leading to non-bootable phone. however, shipped ROM should be able to overcome this.
btw, did u try the Elfin ROM?

And flash only an "IPL&SPL.nbh" which you could make it using htcrt (http://htcrt.h18.ru/) and a pair of ipl-spl from here (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Available%20IPLs%20%26%20SPLs).

still everytime i power on the device it briefly flashes 'searching for sd card' and goes back into tricolor mode.

however when i try flashing from the comp everything goes fine and it says 100% completed and flashing was a success.... so does that mean that the rom has been updated but the ipl/spl combination is preventing it from booting into the rom?

well, dont try just any ROM. find out CID/DID of your phone by following Sticky rollup thread. and then look for a matching shipped ROM. only that can help.

Update: Finally got my Elf fixed by getting it serviced by HTC. They say that they've changed the motherboard. I guess, they have as the IMEI has changed.

Are you unpacking the RUU_Elf_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.1B_4.1.13.42_02.93.90_Shi p.exe file and then you are executing the ROMUpdateUtility.exe?... or are you running the RUU_Elf_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.1B_4.1.13.42_02.93.90_Shi p.exe directly?

Have you tryed flash your device from bootloader mode?

Enter the bootloader mode, then connect to USB, and run directly the RUU_Elf_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.1B_4.1.13.42_02.93.90_Shi p.exe from windows, even if your Sync Center does not recognize your device you can flash it.

Hi Andrew,

Was upgrading my HTC Touch from Blue V4.0 to Blue Elves V5.0 . Did so successfully. worked great for some time but the mobile network signals weren't coming so I pressed the ON/OFF button. After that I am stuck !! The phone goes blank after showing the 'Smart Mobility' message. On pressing the camera button, I get the tricolour page showing IPL 2.02.0002 and SPL 1.11.000.

Downloaded and ran MTTY and input as you said.

The device resets after DeviceReset command but same status.
Can you guide me how to proceed from here. Anyone have a link to the OEM ROM for HTC Elf 64/128 ROM 2.20.720.2B wwe Dt 2/10/2007 Radio 03.07.90 Protocol 4.1.13.51 Ext ROM 2.20.720.103 ? Even then , how to start the download ?

there is not written ruu on the right top
when i connect it with the usb port appear usb on the right bottom but active sync is not working.
I tryed to reflash the original rom but i'm still stuck at the same screenshot.
Mtty doesn't connect.

any idea?
