Downloaded the newest RC and changed the poivy url to the new one. Works great! I like the new thing that are put into this app! :D

The people getting the NotSupportedException should lookup the right url on the website of the service they use.

I remove VOIPSMS from PDA and reinstall it on main memory...
reset after reinstall.. use for ( I have a VOIPBUSTER account) link:
https://myaccount.voipbuster.com/clx/sendsms.php
Using the same link on web is running well
Where is the fault ??

Rhapsody
9th November 2009, 11:21 AM
Running well doesn't mean that it's actually correct unfortunately.

The link should return a XML fragment containing the result and/or failure reason.
When it returns "1 1 succes" it's is not XML.

The link for VoipBuster should be: https://www.voipbuster.com/myaccount/sendsms.php

Gvan

Now it is running without error !!!
The problem was the link !!!
Can I ask you to put the right link on first page...to avoid future confusion
thanks for you help !!

I have tested the new RC and I must say it works like a charm :-)
Sending messages with a '&' in the text failed in the old version since the new URL for VoipBuster... In the new version (using replace characters) it works fine again.

Only issue with VoipBuster now is when I send a message > 160chars it fails for the first message (telling me the message is too long and I need to shorten it); the 2nd message works fine (since it is less than 160 chars)

This not only happens when I'm using 'special' chars (like & or diacritic characters) but on every message I send with >160 chars.

Hi,

VoipSMS is really a great tool! Now I just wonder whether it can be used with other "normal" SMS providers which offer a html API.

For instance, one I used to use (SMStrade) provides this HTTP API:

http://gateway.smstrade.de/?key=123&to=4917212345&message=Hello+World&route=gold&from=sendernr

So should be in the same spirit as the VOip Betamax APIS, so I wonder whether one can add an account by defining the specific API for other SMS providers on the net to use them along with this neat program?? Any change that could work out or is it to complex?? Would be a great additional use of this program for the many SMS providers out there!
Cheers
Johannes

At this moment this is not possible due technical limitations.

It's not complex but it requires a lot of work. The Betamax clones all work the same. A new, different, api needs a generic approach to accounts and sending. What do all these fields (key, route) in the URL mean?

It's on my wishlist btw.

Hello,
is there any chance for SMS77 support in VoipSMS? This provider has a nice feature to send delivery reports by mail.
Unluckily the only supporting application I know (IPSMS) is discontinued and not working on higher resolution devices :-(

The required parameter's content looks highly similar to voipbuster, just different parameter naming in the http request...

http://gateway.sms77.de/?u=*username*&p=*password*&to=*phonenumber*&text=*text*&type=*type*&from=*phonenumber*

*phonenumber* can be e.g. 0171... (german mobiles) or 0049171... or 49171
*type* can be basicplus, quality, festnetz, flash (or maybe just putting in the string type=quality, as 'quality' type is needed to send SMS abroad or with your own number)
https:// connection and sending of the password as MD5 hash is also supported.

(a little bit outdated (german) API definition is on http://www.sms77.de/api.pdf , they've got even an debug mode (&debug=1) to test the API without costs)

Rhapsody
29th November 2009, 05:12 PM
as with SmsTrade, SMS77 should also be supported.

I'm thinking about a generic solution for supporting multiple providers.
Each provider has the same ingredients;
- base URL
- collection of parameters (username, password etc)

But first things first; I think the last beta of 3.0 is stable enough to make it final! It's out for a few weeks already and no errors have been reported.

Google Voice SMS?

I don't know that one. Can you give me some more information?

nahid569

yes for sure. Well voice is open to US people only and you can send SMS to hundreds of countries worldwide absolutely for free from either you US mobile phone or online website.

I live in the US now but I want to use there service when i visit other countries. Voice doesnt have any VOIP settings or anything like that so you cant integrate it with any app but I was hoping to somehow use WIFI to send sms using the google voice system. This is completly free and if you are willing to do this then I can give you a free Google VOice invite because its in Beta mode right now.

When I look to this (http://adriel.dynalias.com/blog/?p=252) url, I see that Google Voice SMS is a little bit to complicated. It's not only sms, but a complete, online, storage application with call, sms, inbox functionality.
At this moment, this doesn't fit into VoipSMS. But maybe this (http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/08/10/goosms-build-9804-finger-friendly-google-sms-interface-for-windows-mobile.html) can help you.

GooSMS is another thing Raphshody. It is a service from google where u can ask things through sms and you will get answers to them, or something like this.

Google voice as u said it is a complete voip solution that wrap all ur phones and act as a central place where to manage everything. Right now it is open just in USA but i managed to register from italy too.... a little tricky but it worked.

The good part is that you can in fact send free sms all around the world at no cost, and if the api posted before is true it should be quite easy.

Apart this there is a project on source forge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gvoicedotnet/

I'm waiting too the correction of the 160 characters bug that i just reported months ago, but it was flagged as "non bug"... i surprised it came back once again :P

Hi

I just downloaded your program, nice little program works like a charm but i was wondering if there are any plans to put sms messages in between the normal sms messages. This way you can still have the conversation style view of windows mobile.
Not sure if this has been asked before, but im not really in the mood to start reading 77 pages :)

Go read the first 77 pages!!! No just kidding, I've been looking at this a long time ago. It's possible to get the messages from the Pocket Outlook inbox, but it's not possible to move them TO the PO inbox. (only with c++, but I can't program in that language)

Further, at this moment I'm very busy (again...) and for now I'm not going to look at other sms providers like Google. I hope I can fix the 160 chars length issue this year.

Hi,

I am using two sms providers. Both are paid-for providers used by business and organisations. Both have numerous sms apis, and both can send sms via http post. I am pleased that you were seeking to make your app generic to provide the ability for the user to add providers. However, in the meantime, I wonder if you could help, or give some advice as how I could add the following providers:

Esendex is a sms service provider.
Aaisp (Andrews and Arnold) provide landlines, voip, internet and more. Most of their virtual landline numbers include incoming and outgoing text ability (UK landlines can receive texts, and also send them if the user has the right hardware or software).

The error message is a standard message because 'NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab' could not be found.

If I look at the error details at the bottom

Net.Dns.ResolveInternal(String hostName)
v: System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(String hostNameOrAddress)
v: System.Net.ServicePoint.resolve()

it tells me that there was something wrong with the internet connection of your mobile phone. Can you verify that you've got a internet connection that actually works?

You can try to install 'NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab' to get the actual error message. If you can't find it on your pc (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft.NET\SDK\CompactFramework\v3.5\Wind owsCE\Diagnostics) you can use the attached file.

Concatenated SMS is most likely not supported by Betamax services. They only except messages wich are <= 160 chars.

I tried myself by manually adjusting the URL. Regular Hexadecimal characters are accepted by Betamax. CSMS works by adding a few HEX-Characters to the first few characters of your message...

Unfortunately these specific HEX-Characters are refused by Betamax. So it does not work indeed at this moment :-(

In 3.0.2009.1220 I've noticed two other things; splitting messages works fine now :-) One small issue: it splits messages based on words so it seems (this makes reading the seperate messages a lot easier). The counter for the number of messages does not use this. So when I send a message of 320 characters it shows "2 messages" while it actually sends 3.

Also when sending multiple messages and message 1 fails for whatever reason it will keep trying to send message 2 (and further). This will result in some kind of a puzzle on the receiver side ;-)

PS. My (almost-)GF likes to send me loooooooooong text messages and I love to send her long messages back ;-) That's why I keep mentioning these long/split messages :-P

So shortly;

- you'd like messages splitted by word
- when 1 message failed to sent, do'nt sent other messages.

- fix char counter when writing a message

is that correct?

About the hex chars. Betamax isn't very consequent with it. Not all chars are allowed and some chars are accepted but simply ignored. And there's no documentation whatsoever. (at least not available to me)

I've got some time tonight I think. My GF will go to dutch course tonight. :) (for those who're interested; we live together for a month or two now! :) )

Hehe, man I don't know if I can handle this responsibility.

Tonight I've been sitting arround the designtable to come up with a good design for supporting different accounts like SMSBug and Google Voice.
I don't know if I want to include calling in the future. There are better tools out there and it costs a lot of time to figure it out so at the moment I'm thinking not to support calling but to focus on sending text messages only.
I've got it figured out pretty much complete. There are some minor but important details where I have to think about. I'll keep this thread updated.

Well, the messages split by word is something you seem to have implemented already :-) At least, when I test messages I see them split by words, not by 160 chars. (WinMo 6.1) The only bug is the counter does not show the correct number of messages

And I'm not sure what to do with the remaining messages if one fails, perhaps a message "Continue, Retry, Cancel"? (since you might have the case you try to send a message to x people and for one of them it fails sometime). When you send a long message (say split into 4 messages and message part 2 fails you might want to retry part 2 and continue with part 3&4)

[wish]
- "Continue, Retry, Cancel" on failed message part (BEFORE sending next part)
- CSMS ;-) Wish for Betamax :-P

[bug]
- Counter does not show correct number of messages on split messages

And I guess I will be responsible but you are connecting people indeed ;-) And it helps a lot! ;-) Still very nice you keep working on this tool even though you have just started to live together with your GF :-) (and even better since there is no API from Betamax as you say)

Sometimes I receive a SMS from somebody who is not in my contacts and I wish that VoipSMS would offer an easy way to add the sender's number to the contacts (device and/or SIM).

I am sure that more VoipSMS users feel the same way ;)

Thanks and happy messaging to all the readers of this great thread :D

And service nr is explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347726&highlight=service+nr&page=73 (post 724 and 725)
It's optional and meant for calling. You need to fill in the service nr from your betamax provider. This number is used for calling.

This thread contains 800+ posts now, so instead of complaining that nobody responds, try the search in the mean time. I'm unable to visit this thread every day :) But I do my best.

Rhapsody,

I recently changed phones and the theme of this new one I´m using has black background. Because of this I can't see the contact list because its default is black text.
Would you happen to know how I could get around this problem (without having to change the color of the theme)?

The new version is working very well by the way..

thank you,

Yep, thats the one. I can only see the contact name when its highlighted otherwise can´t see a thing, same thing happens with the sip provider dropdown.

When VoipSMS reports that you don't have enough credit; it receives that info from VoipBuster itself.
So it might be that VoipBuster only accepts those limited free messages from their website and that they don't accept them through their sms service.

I've started with rebuilding a part of the accounts to support also other types like google and such.
But one major problem; most of these types are only available when you create an account. I don't want to have 3123 accounts and it will cost me way to much time to build and test everything.

Here's a new version: 3.0.2010.0418

Fixes:
- Startup performance improved.
- 'Add contact to PocketOutlook' function added to 'View message' window.
- Compatibility issue with 'black themes' fixed.
- Accounts part rewritten.

When started, update the database with the update manager (will be displayed automatically). Existing accounts *should* be automatically converted.

Hi Rhapsdy, thanks for the new version, feels faster than before.

The new account menu is great except the fact that the server name cannot be edited. This could be handy when url's are changing. But I think it's good to hide the url's by default when adding an account. A button more options would be great for advanced users. Also a blank (not prefilled) account-record would be nice if betamax adds a new name to their portfolio.

Furthermore the versioinfo shows the old versionnumber.

Thanks for your great work!

Do you also have problems with VoipBuster?

Edit: I just checked at home, and Google Voice should not be on the list. I wanted to add it but I simply didn't have the time. Another reason is that when I add Google, I have to add many others as well and that will take even more time. So I have to think about what I'd like to do with these non-betamax providers.

I can confirm the error. First i did an upgrade from version 2 but it didn't import anything from db.
I setted up 12voip account and applied. Then after exiting the accounts options dialog i entered this last again to find the 12voip listed but without any configuration detail.

First thought has been: update is not working. Removed all and installed again removing before the files of the version 2. Didnt work again.

So i tought maybe was because i was installing on external memory. Removed all installed on normal memory ( under \ ) didnt work again. Always that error.

For what i can see it seems like it is not writing settings to the configuration db and when it is trying a lookup inside the key value pair list it is not finding them any, before sending.

Very frustrating to read :(

The only option left is to fully uninstall VoipSMS. After that remove all remaining files (or make a backup) from the installation directory and reinstall VoipSMS.
You need to reconfigure everything :(

Since everything is stored in a Sqlite database, it should be easy to export/import them via some kind of tool.

My apologies for the inconvinience...

From the behaviour it seems like the settings are getting lost, or the db is not committed or the keyvalue pair dictionary is not refreshed.

Because that error is given when u are sending, but if u enter the setting of the account the account is empty.

And something that u changed between an old version and this... i have the old version where u have to insert still the url and that is working for me.

Rhapsody

Yes, it certainly has got something to do with the accounts modification. Keynotfound indicates indeed a missing setting. Therefore I'd like to see the db file to check if all settings are actually in the db.

Edit: found a bug in the account conversion. Happens only when there were at least two accounts specified.

Ok, a long time has passed since any info from my side.
Again lack of time was the cause.

The last year I haven't been able to work on VoipSMS as much as I would like. Although the lack of time was a big reason another reason was that I simply don't use the application anymore myself. (since october 2010)

The above as well as some reasons described below made me decide to stop the development (for as far as there still was any) of VoipSMS.
The other reasons are:
- Windows Mobile 6.x will be supported in the future but with Windows Phone 7 and all the other way better alternatives (according to me) it will simply be a matter of time untill WM6.x will be replaced as well.
- VoipBuster.com will also release a WM application for sending messages.
- I'd like to go play around with some other technologies

So I'd like to thank everybody who gave the application a try. Especially all the people here who posted their experiences and helped with development; I wish I could write down everybody's name; but I'm sure I would forget somebody. So thanks!!

Dear Rhapsody,

We (the users of VoipSMS) should be the ones thanking you, not only for having given us this very useful application but also for having offered us the opportunity to actively cooperate with its development!

Thanks for having implemented all the very useful features we requested in this thread and for having mustered sufficient patience to cope with the less useful requests.

Besides the XDA Forum you know how to get in touch with most of us and I sincerely hope that you will stay in touch whenever you feel like dropping a line ;)
