View Full Version : Problems with WiFi access on Helmi

I SIM unlocked to use T-Mobile with my SX66 to do a comparison with my Wizard to see how this BA performs: I cant figure out if this is an older unit (05 versus 06??) or a newer one (400 MHz rather than 190 and a 2 megaixel camera on the camera units rather than a 1.3???) and installed Helmi, which has lots of features I don't need but which seems to be the only WM6 ROM around for this unit (?).
Installation went fine and without a hitch but now on boot up, I don't get a splash screen of whatever type: I get the initial bootloader screen, which is curious! But seems to be correct. However on that screen on soft reset, it shows the OS correctly but with a R 1.02.10 and a G of 1337.35. What is unusual is that on hard reset it shows both these settings as empty. Only on soft reset does it show the radio etc.
Slightly more worryingly (as I would like to test out VoIP on this unit) this BA wont connect to the Internet. WLAN is off by default and turning it on just flashes up a list of local WiFi LANs: It wont actually connect to any of them. it does take you through the steps and asks all the seemingly obvious questions (Is this the Internet or a work VPN? WHY SHOULD YOU CARE??) and at the end of the process, it just doesn't connect. Even more annoyingly, when it doesnt connect, it turns WLAN off again, so you don't really know when it did this (or, of course, why). It takes you through all the steps and then gives you the Configure Wireless Networks screen which shows all local networks which you KNOW to be available as "unavailable".
Is this a known problem with Helmi or does anyone recognise what I am doing wrong please?

I had the same problem with my BLUEANGEL (MDA III). The Upgrade to WM6 was totally ok. Everything is working, except the WLAN. Did you tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343862

The WLAN started trying to connect as I describe but now just doesn't even turn on in Comm Mgr.
Also tried upgrading to xplode but BA loses communication during the upgrade process. (Attempted to ask Xplode himself on that thread and will see if he has any idea)

Yes, although bluetooth was already working, this seems to do something: I dont know what it is but it appears to be some combination of turning off and turning on again all sorts of things in CommMgr. Now it is working.
I wonder how long it will continue to work? It certainly doesnt let me open VoIP settings while connected. I still get a fatal exception when I try to do so and even though I have inputted all my VoIP settings, VoIP still doesnt work.
Still trying to figure out whether Xplode knows what is causing my failure to communicate WHILE upgrading from Helmi to Xplode.

Often when I try to connect using IE and it says it isn't connected, it IS. I often get the message that I cant connect with the usual reference to completely useless settings pages or an offer to dismiss and give up on the internet connection.
But if I ignore it, I find that I mysteriously AM connected.
