purpose 1 - setup laptop to serve as wifi access point

purpose 2 - atom to connect to this accesspoint & use the lappy's net connection

--------

i hope i've been very clear bout my motive ....all this trouble cause i DONT hav a wifi router

---------

wat kinda net do i hav on my lappy -

cable net... no modem... cable connects directly to my pc's lan card... class-1 ip range... fixed ip (no dhcp obviously)

my ip - 10.10.16.149
subnet - 255.255.255.192
gateway - 10.10.16.129
dns - 10.10.0.1

---------

lappy setup as wifi accesspoint -

class-3 ip range... fixed

my ip - 192.168.0.1
subnet - 255.255.255.0
dns - 10.10.0.1

accesspoint type - ADHOC
authentication - open
encryption - disable

---------

atom setup -

network card connects to - The Internet

atom ip - 192.168.0.10
subnet - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.0.1
dns - 10.10.0.1

--------

when i turn on both lappy & atom wifi, atom detects the lappy accesspoint & connects to ....so far so good....

now i open atom's wifi utility & ping 192.168.0.10 (atom's own ip) & as expected i get 1ms response time

i ping 192.168.0.1 (pc's ip) .... NO RESPONSE !!!

--------

from lappy i ping 192.168.0.1 (lappy's ip) ..... 1ms

i ping 192.168.0.10 (atom's ip) .... NO RESPONSE !!!

------

even if i connect the lappy & atom thru DHCP, they cant ping eachother

-----

so wat on earth is going on?

i explained my motive & steps ....som1 pls help !!!

if this issue can b sorted, i believe this detailed post wud b helpful for the community even in future

------

Did you turn on ICS(internet connection sharing)?

enabling ICS wud reset all NIC ips to 192.168.0.1 ....but then the cable net wont work cause it needs predefined static ip :(

isnt there any 3rd party ICS app... or a software router emulator?

or somway i can connect the damn activesync thru wifi? u guys make ROMs... cant u make a activesync tat will work on wifi?
