I take no responsibility for anything you do to your device.

dcd's titan kitchen pre-1.6.1 (TEST 2)

CORE: dcd's clean rom pre-1.6.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1669932&postcount=1)
KNOWN ISSUES: none yet...

ROM: 2.16 / CE OS 5.2.1933 XIP by no2chem.
SYS: Build 18533.0.7.0 ported from custom Wizard rom.
OEM: 2.17 OEMDrivers / 2.14 OEMApps / touch themed dialer, commmanager, calc, media player, audio fix, my tweaks

THIS IS NOT "THE OFFICIAL KITCHEN"!!!
THIS IS NOT MY OFFICIAL RELEASE!!!

This is the 2nd test for what will become my official kitchen release. Use at your own risk. Report bugs, but please dont ask for support.
As time permits, I will fix any problems found and continue to cleanup the kitchen base to form a proper release.

If you are new to ROM kitchens, wait a while. This is for experienced users to help me find problems I may have overlooked. I will not be providing any guide at this time. A tutorial with screenshots will be included when this becomes finalized.

I have absolutely nothing to do with any "official" kitchen efforts. This is the base that I use to build my clean roms.

kitchen 1.6.1 TEST2: 11-29-07 CE OS 5.2.1933 Build 18533.0.7.0 (http://rapidshare.com/files/73189179/dcd_kitchen_1.6.1_PUBLIC_TEST2.rar.html)

thank you ImCoKeMan, no2chem, bepe, tadzio, dogguy.

if you're going to modify and redistribute this, it would be nice if you drop me a line first.

PLEASE LIMIT YOUR RESPONSES ON THIS THREAD TO BUG REPORTS.
Other requests, questions, comments will be ignored.
If you experience problems, please include specific directions on how to reproduce the problem in your post.
If the issue can be confirmed, it will be acknowledged in post 1 as a known issue.

You need to give more detail if you want people to test it out!

Is this a command line based kitchen?
Does it require .net?
Is it script based (like DogGuys), or GUI?

Your first post goes on and on about how this is not the "official" kitchen, its not the final release of your kitchen, its not DogGuy's kitchen...
so, we get what its NOT, now tell us what it IS! :)

im not sure if it requires .net framework. doesnt everybody have this by now?

its the old buildos GUI. run buildos. select carrier. select applications. press play. exit buildos. run createrom. move your new .nbh into the RUU folder and flash.

actually, one of my biggest gripes with dogguy's kitchen is that buildos requires the newer .net framework and my laptop has currently, and at the moment its a work laptop which doesn't give me admin rights to install .net...

So, I thought maybe your kitchen would be a workaround for me, but apparently yours is using the same buildOS, which requires .net.

Oh well. :)

i see. i just took the .net installation for granted. there MIGHT be another option. hang on a few.
edit: nope, you have to have .net 2.0. sorry. i wish i could come up with another option, but i guess not.
however, if "new buildos" does not require .net, it wouldnt be hard to switch out. i just didnt have a need for it as the old buildos is working fine for me.

Nice to see you on xda, dcd. I had checked out for a while there (work).

Will you also be posting OEMs customized for your kitchen? Or, do OEMs prepared in standard way work with your kitchen?

Thanks.

most existing OEMs should work, may take a little experimentation/tweaking to work right once flashed, but same structure.

When cooking the rom with DeviceLock builtin, the Settings icons is missing so it's impossible to customize behaviors of DL.

no, its the older devicelock version that is not configurable.

Ah, ok. I understand. Btw, as a side note, damn is that new 1.6.1 rom fast compared to Sprint 2.17. I really have no rationale to offer as to why but I clearly see the difference. My device is so much more responsive, minimal lag (for a WM6 rom), and makes me love back my phone (well, almost).

Bug found: HTC Clock seems to be approximately :30 faster than the clock in the titlebar. Maybe it is something I did wrong, I don't know.

Update 11/30/07
Using 1.47.1 Radio

I decided to test the different radios at the same location (my desk). This is a poor reception location but is good for testing.
dcd's 1.5.0 rom gave me the best reception/speed with the 1.4.0 radio at this same location versus all other roms I have tried.

Radio Test Results:
Tested Radio 1.40 = Reception was not good. dslreports.com speedtest for simple mobile (400k file) = 450kbits average
Tested Radio 1.47.1 = Reception is slightly better. dslreports.com speedtest for simple mobile (400k file) = 550kbits average

Extremely impressed dcd, this is the fastest rom as far as responsiveness and overall speed I have had on my phone yet and I have installed quite a few from all different dev's. Also, memory usage is great with virtually no mem leakage when phone was on overnight.

Update 12/02/07
I have been using the rom made from the kitchen for 3 days now. I am extremely impressed by how well the memory has virtually stayed at 53-60% over the weekend. I rebooted once every 24 hours and activesync starts at every boot (can I disable that?). Phone is running great. Of course the only qualm that I have is reception, but it is not bad reception. I suppose I am spoiled by the 1.40 radio that I used on dcd's 1.5.0 rom a while back. It seems like the 1.40 radio is MUCH better than the 1.47 radio when used with a pre-2.17 rom. However, I have not had this phone perform anywhere near as well as it has now using this kitchen. Now that this kitchen has 2.17, it seems like using 1.47 radio is actually better. This is just my experience though.

So my experience has been simple actually :) Performance vs. Reception. Considering that the performance is FAR SUPERIOR than anything I have used before, and the reception is not much worse than before (compared to increase in performance), I definitely will stick with this rom.

Tested Radio 1.47.1 = dslreports.com speedtest for simple mobile (400k file) = 550kbits average so it stayed the same....

Update 12/07/07
I have been using the rom for officially one week. I am very happy with it. First off I must say that the battery life is undoubtedly the best I have had yet. I did not comment on the battery life in the previous updates because I feel like it takes a week to truly judge the difference in battery life between different roms.

I am now running Voice Command 1.6 which I installed about 3 days ago, and I use it a lot during the day. I call all of my contacts and dial almost all calls with the Voice Command. The memory is now a steady 60-70% a day from using the Voice Command these past three days. Towards the end of the day it goes to about 73%. However, the memory usage and performance is still FAR superior than any other rom I have used in the past.

Summary: Everything runs great, only qualm being the reception/data speed. I attribute the poor signal/data directly to the 1.47 radio. Unfortunately it seemed to me that the rom made using the kitchen worked best with 1.47 and NOT 1.40. So it is still a direct sacrifice of performance/memory versus reception and data speed in the end with this kitchen.

Nice kitchen. I'm on alltel and built a basic rom. Everything is working properly so far. I'm going to start adding some OEMs and check for any problems.

By the way, Qmenu is a much more memory-friendly alternative to X-button.
And, it has an optional cascading start menu which displays all running apps as well as a memory reclaimation tool (does the Oxios Hibernate thing).
Works really well, and uses under 100k of memory!

Might want to consider cooking that in instead of X-button. (I'm a recent x-button convert)

it has to be an oem you added as all that were included were tested.

go into the temp folder and view the log. it will show you the guid of the package that failed. find that package and verify that the .rgu is unicode, starts with REGEDIT4, and ends with a blank line.

ok i have a couple of more questions.

1. how do you edit what .tsks are in the rom and what one is set at default?
2. how do you edit whats in the programs menu, such as removing calculator, activesync, etc. i dont see the oems in the folder.
3. how do you change the bootsplash screens?

I've been watching the custom ROM scene for quite some time. I'm getting ready to dive into making custom ROM's and custom applications. I've been writing apps for Windows for several years at work so I'd consider my self to be more than average on this kind of stuff.

I downloaded the dcd base but it won't compile even just the base out of the box with no mods. I end up with some error messages and 306k ROM file. Does anyone have a simple guide to get started? I started playing with the package creator for converting some CABs to OEMs and I think I've got most of those going but I'd like to make sure before I start flashing some bad stuff to my phone.

Ok I'm not sure how familiar you are with this type of kitchen, but the first thing you need to run is build os. Select what you want in the rom and make sured you select the carrier. Then make the signed RUU, then move the ruu to the update folder and run Update RUU exe.

i have not made a decision but it will probably be a selectable option. the drivers are a tiny bit of the picture. this release is just to test the carrier packages, the next release will have OEM broken down alot further to more easily swap components.

hi DCD, for the last few days I have struggled to get my phone to answer the calls. I have S2U2 v0.86 installed... everytime when I tried to slide to answer the call, the phone hangs. Whoever calls me would still hear the phone ring until the voicemail comes up. When voicemail comes up, my phone will back to normal and display miss calls. I really thought it was the S2U2's problem, but after I uninstall the program, the phone would act the same. Phone hangs when click answer until voicemail comes up. I hard reset the phone, and had no luck. so i reflash the rom to clean 1.5.7. and so far I have no problem at all.

The past two days I've noticed my phone in coma mode. Had to soft-reset it. I'm thinking the 1.47.01 is a culprit. I haven't cooked anything in besides slingplayer at this point. Which I probably won't keep cooked into the ROM as it was really just a proof of concept.

I'm flashing to 1.40 and leaving everything else the same to see if that fixes things.

I'm having no probs, noticed that when S2U2 is built into the ROM as a package that it does not build, conflicts with another package.. If you dont know what your doing and think that you can have the latests and greatest without putting in some time, go back to the commercial ROM, then you will not have as many problems.. If you want to play with ROM dumps, do your home work 1st.. or brick it!!!

well some arcsoft settings are in the arcsoft package and some are in the sprint carrier package. maybe another package is borking them. in the next test release, the carrier packages (and arcsoft on this note) will have high guid's so as to get parsed after everybodys other stuff.

what s2u2 files conflict with which package? one of the two copies has to be removed.. i have not tried a s2u2 oem as i dont use it but ill try

Here is a simple question. (I hope) I have a copy of the loon's kitchen with OEMS for all kinds of different programs. I would gladly use your kitchen to attempt making a new ROM or at least give it a go but I need to know one thing.

Will OEMS made for the Wizard work with your kitchen for the Titan?

If yes then I will try to get a FULL Touch Style ROM built but no promises. It is going to take me a little while to figure out exactly what I'm going to put in the ROM and fully test it but I'll do it.

i just replied to your same question in other thread. conditionally yes. its the same question really, as if you asked if a oem for wizard would fly on hermes. the only change here is this is a cdma device...something gsm-based that wouldnt have worked as a normal install isnt goign to work as an oem. you seem to be well ahead of that knowledge. so give it a shot. in fact, i purposely laid this kitchen (and moreso the upcoming version) out as previous devices have been laid out, used the old version of buildos, and would like to stay on the known path as much as possible. id like to have peoples current understanding of kitchens, oems, tweaks, etc 'just drop in' - if you find a way to make this more feasable please let me know. this kitchen is absolutely open to suggestions or outside modification, but i want it to be known to me as long as my name stays on it. just my two cents, i guess.

Absolutely. If I come across something that I could possibly modify I will definitely let you know. As for the posting my question under 2 different threads, I suppose I was doing that to get the fastest response. A fast response was what I got too. :D

Kitchen rom is working great, phone has been running much smoother with less lockups.

I did exclude HTC Home, and then installed I believe HTChome 2.07 instead, since with the version included in the kitchen, I had no ability to edit the weather xml file to include my own city. In fact all HTC Home files under /windows were set to read only, which kept me from editing the city.

So no lockups, no slowdowns, have not tested BT as I rarely use it other than to Sync.

Lastly, any easy way for me to get Solitaire and the other out of the stock rom? Or do I have to unpack the stock rom, and then add the packages to the kitchen. I know, solitaire is lame, but I'm cheap and don't want to purchase any other games :)

Thanks DCD!

this isnt somethign i can fix but it shouldnt stop you. files in rom are always read only. with resco or another file manager you can clear the read only flag, then overwrite them.

as for solitaire, the entertainment package will be an option in the next kitchen, along with every other standard wm6 package that is currently removed.

I ended up realizing that the read only was set because it's part of the ROM. I instead grabbed the hacked HTCHome 2.1 version in another thread, and managed to be able to added it as a package to your kitchen. I also was able to add the latest version of Google Maps, and some freeware games. I can attach those 2 packages if you want?

Thanks, i'm amazed at how much more standby time I'm getting on your rom, vs the Sprint one.

Fantastic work!

Or am I missing something...I love the idea of the Kitchen. But how does this fit into the whole Process

from PDAGeeks thread for dummies:

1) First thing you MUST do is unlock your phone.
2) Find a suitable ROM to flash to (I'm guessing that's what this kitchen does)
3) Run a Rom Update Utility (RUU)
4) Run exitbootloader if it gets stuck.

Do I have this process right?

So...where do I put the Verizon Radio?

Ok keep in mind I'm a newb, and a week ago I knew nothing about any of this.

1) Correct, you have to unlock the phone with the unlocker that's in this forum. After it finishes make sure to look on the phone's screen to look for the new spl, to ensure you unlocked it.
2) Either use the Rom DCD made, 1.6.4, or use the kitchen to make a custom rom. If you use the kitchen, due the following:

BuildOs.exe <choose carrier and packages you want>
CreateRom.bat <creates the rom>
Once it finishes with no errors copy RUU_signed.nbh to the RUU directory, and overwrite the existing RUU_signed.nbh if there is one.
Next ensure your phone is at least 50% charged, connect the cable to PC via Active Sync.
In RUU folder run RomUpdateUtility.exe and follow through the prompts. This will flash the phone with the Rom.
If for some reason the flash fails, the utility will guide you through what to do, shortly it's disconnect usb cable, remove battery for 3 seconds, replace battery, power up, connect usb cable. It will then try reflashing, if this fails, then quit the utility and run it again.

Not responsible if you kill your phone :)

I think I was able to add the HTCHome2.1, a couple games, and GoogleMaps to the Kitchen, without any major issues. On first boot it did complain about calnot.exe, calclock.exe and one more, not sure what that was all about.

Sometimes on first boot, phone signal get's no signal, but after reboot I get perfect signal.

Still running strong! Battery life has been much better so far.

Does that mean I can NOT use this kitchen?
Can DCD potentially add Verizon to the list?
Can I somehow still use this tool if he does NOT?

Thanks,
Matt

Thats what I mean if you will be making a Verizon build when you do your Sprint build. Like I said I am a idiot with the kitchen and really dont want to brick my phone as I dont have standard warranty or insurance.

Not to be rude, but you may want to be a bit more specific in your question, instead of trying to get others to read your mind as to what you meant.

With this type of attitude you are really not going to get far. Read the how to on using the kitchen, look at my post above. If you are intelligent enough to flash the rom DCD made, then you can use the kitchen. If you cannot use the kitchen, you really should not even be flashing. It took all of 20 minutes to figure out how to use it after reading up in this forum.

If it's really such an issue for you, I'll build you a rom this weekend when the updated kitchen comes out.

Where is the how_to because I have been looking and cannot seem to find it. If you are refering to your post I would either be looking for a full how to as far as adding packages and tweaks which I would never ask someone to make just for me. If I am going to do something I would want to do it fully. I happen to like the edit's DCD makes which is y I was asking. Sorry if I am not well versed on windows mobile to be worthy to flash roms.

dude, read the first post. this is a test. this comes with no instructions and this thread is not meant to become a chatter. its for outside input for me before i finish something worthy of writing up instructions and officially calling my kitchen release.

Thats exactly my point I wasnt asking for a how to just asking if you could build a Verizon rom when u build the Sprint one other people like to but in and make comments they dont know about. Do your thing please as I am sure I am not the only one waiting patiently.

Don't use the kitchen...USE THE PREBUILT ROMS.

dcd, say I want to mess with your kitchen and others kitchen trying to do my own mix, for my own use, how can I 'reverse-engineer' an application cab such that I can properly add the app (or any app for that matter) in a kitchen? If it's a trade secret, i'll understand :)

DCD, my apologies for jumping the gun, but do you plan on releasing an updated kitchen based on your new rom 1.6.6 anytime soon? Thx, keep up the good work!

sometime..when its cleaned up, carrier packages are right, and bugs are gone from the rom.

Thx for the quick response, I'll be waiting. Another quick question if you don't mind, could you tell me the name of the dialer skin in your newer rom? it's different than the one in the current kitchen. Eg. when smartdial is enabled, it's like embedded within the dialer skin, but the 1 in the kitchen has a separate drop down window which sucks, or is it just a registry hack? Plus the newer one is clean and nice in all black, no blue.

its pretty much peiced together by me, not something you will find somewhere without just doing the same. it will be in the kitchen.

DCD...great great job. 1 prob though...can't seem to get wmodem to work. it's a must for me...it's the only usb tethering solution that doesn't require activesync.

Maybe it's a user error over here but i'm getting "Com Port Error."

i will try it. however, i dont think the internet sharing application requires activesync.

i noticed that the cooked in wmodem.exe, is smaller then the one originally on the mogul. the cooked in one is like 63k and the original one from the mogul is about 101k. i do believe that is what maybe causing the error.

i was using your clean rom that i saw at ppcgeeks and it had the original 101k wmodem.exe, and worked jus fine. that rom was perfect...until i saw this kitchen.

it was a user error. i was using the optional_wmodem folder from the apache kitchen. explains why it was the wrong size. sorry.
