REQUIREMENTS:
1. Have Hard SPL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679) on your Phone.
2. Read about and Understand the risks of Flashing Roms to your phone.
3. Understand that this Rom is currently in the development cycle. I plan for a new point version (v1.0, v1.1, v1.2 etc) to be released each Wednesday until it is at a point where this is no longer neccessary or feasible. So back-up your personal data preferably using either your PC (Outlook for PIM) or an Exchange Server as there have been reports that some PIM backups from other roms can cause problems (such as the SOD).
4. The new at&t Radio (1.27.14.09).
5. Report your experiences here.
KNOWN ISSUES:
None Yet!

I will flash it anyway, but I am wondering if you can provide a brief summary of the changes from v 1.1?
Thanks
UPDATE -- my activesync now freezes on "retrieving settings" -- but works if I uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality" ... this is a new wrinkle. (though maybe not a big deal).

Yeah, that was one of the upload problems I was having. Successfully uploaded the no radio version to RapidShare this morning and enabled the link.

There have been spotty reports of issues with AS on the previous versions but nothing that I have been able to confirm. What OS are you connecting to?

I have the v1.1 ROM and a handful of applications loaded on my phone, including TCPMP, and my video performance is terrible. The frame rate is very slow and the video lags behind the audio.
I didn't have a similar issue with the original ROM. Is there anything I can do/install/modify to improve performance?

Older version are known to run better than the newer versions

Ok -- I did something bad to this ROM --- now I get the SOD every time I use the power button to turn off the screen. I will do a HR and try to see which app crapped it out (unless others are having this problem too). I never had the SOD on v 1.1, and installed the same package of apps.
By the way, does someone have the sim manager as a cab to install?

Version 0.72RC1. I also tried Core Player, and if anything, it played even worse. WMP refuses to play them at all. I'm thinking there is something fundamental missing (like a codec or something), but I'm not techie-informed enough about these devices to know what to do.

Didn't remove any codecs or WMP registry settings, just the Todayplugin dlls.
I did test using a WMV file and WMP worked fine.
Try installing the WMP Today Plugin and see if it affects your issue.

Hey Kyphur..
I've tested a couple of Arcsoft 4.2.8.1 packages and they don't seem to give me any MMS options at all. I did an HR and installed yours and it does make MMS possible again but still in the combined folder.
I've spent the past couple hours looking to see if there's a published fix and it seems that Sleuth had some problems getting it split as well. Have you actually got them into separate accounts? If so, what cab did you install?
For the record I was using Dutty's 4.2.8.1 cab and another I found on a different site.
Thanks!
Edit...
I also installed both your version and the 4.2.8.1 version and I do have an "MMS" account now but also have MMS options under the "Messages" account as well. However neither seem to work, I have verified settings under both accounts.

Kyphur,
Thanks for your ROMs, I love them, and I know you're busy, but would there be a possibility to add the SIM Manager to the wiki? Have lots of SIM contacts that I don't synch with Outlook. Also, I can't get the WMP homescreen Plugin from the wiki to work

One interesting fact, which may be related to the SOD ... I did a HR and this time popped out my sd card while the phone ran through its paces. Then SR, then popped the sd card back in. For some reason things seem more stable now. I seem (consistently) to get better installs of ROMs when I don't have my sd card in .. not sure why that is.
At any rate, it may also be that I have not yet re-installed whatever crapped me out before.
Right now I have goodlink, google maps, the touch dialer, a 3G comm manager replacement, the HTC home plugin and HTC today plugin, as well as HTC task manager. All is stable (fingers x-sd)

Personally I barely use MMS and don't use the Threaded SMS app so I have no use for split inboxes. I've been talking with Sleuth255 who has been able to configure 4.2.8.1 both ways but only on cold boot (after hard reset). I had seen an Arcsoft Cab that was supposed to work with split inboxes back when I had my Hermes but am kicking myself because I didn't grab it and I can't find it now.
I believe it's possible to mod the cab I made from the version included with the aku 0.4.4 Rom so that it will do split inboxes but it will take some work. The testing means that I would have to keep my Tilt in limbo while I'm working on it (need to test on fresh system) and I currently don't have a back-up PDA phone.
The kids are with their Mom this weekend but I've got to get some painting and such done around the house. You know how it is, the list goes on and on besides when I'm cooking my other hobby gets jealous because I've been neglecting it too long and that room has been left in shambles.
In short what I'm trying to say is no promises but if I can find the time I'll take a whack or two at it.

I wasn't planning on making a cab of the Sim Manager because there are several versions floating around the forum already such as this one (ver 6.31) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=52301&d=1190919961) posted in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438).

First, Thanks Kyphur for a great ROM. Lightweight, superfast and no bloat.....donation sent!!
In the comm manager, what are the two greyed-out buttons for? I thought one of the buttons (messaging icon?) was for messaging, but after setting-up e-mail messaging, it remains greyed-out. And as for the other?

The would be "Push" e-mail which is the Activsync inbox, requires Exchange server account. This is different from IMAP or POP account.

You can flash any Kaiser but you will have to remove the CWSLayout Registry Entry to undo the Tilt Keyboard and you'll also need a 3g Dialer that support Video Calls if you want to use that function.

Im curious what values you set for the three different cache sizes in your rom? Also do you remember where you did the modification for these reg settings (I checked the RGU files and provxml files and they arent there)? I also checked the default.hv file and they werent there either (when I made changes to the default.hv and reflashed it doubled all of the cache settings!) I cannot find them in the rom so that I can make changes to them.

Man, kyphur, for some reason I never have luck with your ROM. I was hoping my SOD problems would go away with 1.2 but right after first flash I experienced SOD. I wonder what's so different about my device. Hmmm! I am going back to dutty's No.4. Your ROM, however, is very fast and snappy though.

Has anyone tried this rom with Inesoft Address Book 2.0 or greater? I am having major issues and I don't know how to fix them. For some reason the program keeps getting disabled and becomes practically worthless. It no longer works as my full screen caller id, and no matter if i go into the programs settings, it just gets ignored because the entire program seems to just get blocked from making any changes. Right after I install i see the Inesoft Icon in the bottom tray of the today screen. After I soft reset, it disappears and becomes practically non functional. Fix?

All that remains of at&t is:
-- Tilt Keyboard Layout
-- at&t MediaNET & WAP Connections
-- Hidden Cingular Proxy
These are easily disabled/removed if you want to use this Rom on a Kaiser or even a tilt on a different network (of course then you would leave the keyboard fix).

Two quick observations:
-TomTom worked initially but now I get the "No Maps Found" error. I tried reinstalling it but that didn't work, I'll try copying over the maps from my PC to the storage card to see if that helps.
-Emails and text messages start in the middle or end of the message.

i was having problems with tomtom so i just scratched it, going to buy igo.
anyway, i found that if you enable bluetooth explorer then tomtom will look to it as a sd card and will give you the problem, that might be the issue since you mention that it was working before...
i have no idea about the second issue

any thoughts on cooking this in or giving us an uninstaller for 2.0 to try this out? Not sure if just installing over the top will do anything since it seems that everyone says there is no gain if you do this.
Well I installed over the top and didn't see any noticable difference like everyone says. Wondering if I install 2.0 cab and then uninstall if that cheat would actually remove 2.0. Gonna try to find this cab

I'm pretty happy with it's speed with this config. I haven't had the random freezes yet (knock on wood) but I almost feel as though it's caused by my SD card. With this ROM you can install pretty much everything to the device save things like GPS programs. (Any today apps definitley) I did have the random freezes with touchflo disabled.
BTW, try to use Kaiser Tweak to re-enable touchflo.

This is my favorite ROM after tried others. I guess I have spent most of time on this one to custom it to my taste.
In the course of doing it, I lost the PTT hold setting. I have PPT map to Voice Dialing but the Push&Hold option disappeared.
Could someone post the registry setting for that to work?
I also lost the long hold on the Hangup key to lock. Another is I like to add one more is long hold on the OK key to activate the comm manage?
Thanks

Personally I barely use MMS and don't use the Threaded SMS app so I have no use for split inboxes. I've been talking with Sleuth255 who has been able to configure 4.2.8.1 both ways but only on cold boot (after hard reset). I had seen an Arcsoft Cab that was supposed to work with split inboxes back when I had my Hermes but am kicking myself because I didn't grab it and I can't find it now. . . .
I just found Arcsoft MMS Client 4.2.8.1 (new Install)
in this Himalaya thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328633
first post, by helmi_c.
It installs and works fine on XDA-Live v 1.2 for me.

Is there a way to get the end key back to its old functionality .. holding it down terminates all data connections instead of locking the phone?

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for the updated cab.
Two quick observations:
-TomTom worked initially but now I get the "No Maps Found" error. I tried reinstalling it but that didn't work, I'll try copying over the maps from my PC to the storage card to see if that helps.
-Emails and text messages start in the middle or end of the message.
Everything else works great :D
I just put this on two days ago (my first cooked ROM).
I want to say first off that I'm loving it - no bloat is great. I am, however, experiencing the same annoying observation on the email messages - they all start in the middle or end of the message.
Anyone know if there is a registry setting that can fix this? Or some other fix?

Oh, and it might be good to put Adobe Reader LE from the ATT release up on the wiki too...saves having to search for it at least.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: I pulled down Adobe LE from other posts in the forum (which was simply a cab file). The program seems to run just fine, and with some manual registry entries, seems to associate fine with PDF files (still not showing the icon right, but I'll hunt that down). Now, for the issues:
When I select a PDF file in explorer (pick your flavor - OEM, Resco, etc), it pulls up Adobe LE just fine, but then LE says the file contains an invalid path. However, I can then choose "open" and find the file and open it just fine.
When I try to open a PDF file from messaging, it pulls up Adobe LE just fine again, but gives the "invalid path" error. Of course, out of messaging, the file is not saved on the card or device in a way that can really be "browsed" to open, so I'm stuck.
Any ideas?
The option I'm trying to avoid is installing Adobe Reader 2.0, because it is such a pig for memory and also carries the stupid conversion settings. The Reader LE version that came with the Tilt seemed to be much better.

Ok...I couldn't help it, so I DL the latest (yeah...hasn't changed since 2004/2005 according to Adobe's copyright splash) Adobe Reader 2.0 for the PPC and installed it. It shows the icons in explorer just fine, but if I launch a PDF file (either from explorer OR from messaging), the program simply loads and then closes immediately. If I've got Reader open, and choose to open a PDF file, it works just fine.
So, I know this may not be related at ALL to this ROM, but I've only experienced this issue since loading this ROM. So, I figured I'd post here first.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, I just can't leave well enough alone.
I put duttythroy's Adobe Reader on - which turned out to be another cab file version of Adobe Reader LE - while still having the Adobe Reader 2.0 bloat version on. This time, when I selected any PDF file (from messaging or from explorer), it would open just fine - in Adobe LE.
So, I proceeded to uninstall Adobe Reader bloat version. Then, when I launched a PDF from messaging, it said it was an unrecognized file type. SO I tried from explorer, where it popped up the box to associate a file type with a program. This time, I selected Adobe LE, and checked BOTH boxes (one is about bounding the path with quotes, and the other about always using this program for this file type).
All is working fine now. Only thing I had to do was go to the registry and change the default icon key under pdffile to -154 instead of -101 that it was using.
I still think it would be nice to have Reader LE in the set of files on the wiki tho - as it is one of the OEM Tilt programs.

Has anyone successfully install a threated SMS software in v1.2?
I am now using the Palm Threaded App kindly provide by Shogunmark: shogun_cingy_Threaded.cab, get it at http://shogunmark.com/default.aspx
I was using TxtMan 1.0.1 and it works fine. Version 2 is now available at http://benhirashima.com/software - has more options but 1.0.1 works well for me.
Xtreme Text v1.02 is now available for WM6 Professional, get it here (http://www.birdsoft.biz/extremetext.htm) - it works fine - has a very nice looking interface - still a work in progress - not able to see full text of each message onscreen all at once, you have to tap on the short beginning of a particular text to popup the whole text, so for now I prefer TxtMan.

* Long Press of RED End Key locks device
. . .
In your thread for v1.1, I asked:
"Can this be optional? I am used to, and like, long press of RED End Key being shutdown of GPRS connection."
You answered:
"Change the value of "HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\LongEndFunction" from One to Zero."
Now, using it, I find that not only does it lock the device, but it also still shuts down GPRS connection - so I'm using it as is, killing 2 birds with one stone! Thanks!

What makes 3.5 better that it's needed?
I hear that the Pocket IE binary download problem (for cab, zip, etc.) has something to do with mime types set in the registry. I remember seeing a patch(?) for it somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Could it be implemented into the next version?

Good news is your ROM is still stable! There are some updates to various bits of software floating around (see Dutty's thread) and Net CF 3.5 ... all of which could maybe be baked into v 1.3?

I'd prefer to simply remove v2.0 from the Rom. This would mean that XDA-Live has NO .Net CF Installed That way there is no problem if you need to remove an earlier version for an update.

If I get a Voice Mail Notification, don't access it right away, hit "Dismiss" instead, the little Voice Mail icon remains in the top bar (as it should), but when I tap on it, nothing happens - it should bring up the voicemail notice again. Same thing with a text message.
I did a Hard Reset and installed nothing, and yet this behavior occurs, so it's not something I've installed that's interfering.
If I don't dismiss or access the message, but return to the Today screen, when I tap on the Voice Mail icon it does bring up the "New Voice Message" balloon with "You have 1 or more new voice messages"

I'm using XDA V1.2 and noticing some odd icon behavior in the start menu.
I'm running the standard windows today screen, no modifications. I made some changes to the start menu, i.e. moved some programs out and added some programs (Google Maps, Live Search, WeatherBug & eWallet). I notice that when I cold start my Kaiser, the Start menu takes a while to come up. When it displays the start menu, Live Search, WeatherBug and eWallet are generic icons, Google is fine.
If I go into Start/Settings/Menu and make one change or re-select any of the icons in the start menu, then reopen the start menu from the Today screen, everything is fine. If I cold restart the phone the icons are generic.
I've checked with gsFinder and the shortcuts are in the proper directory, all the shortcut icons are properly displayed in gsFinder. . .it's just kinda wierd.
It displayed the cooked menu just fine - this didn't start happening until I started changing the start menu items.
Any thoughts? It's completely repeatable. . . at least for my phone. Not a big deal, just a small annoyance.
PS. Great ROM! I've recommended it to several of my "Tilt'ed" friends.

This problem alss happens for me and I am running the stock Att aku 4.4 that this XDA 1.2 is based on (so it doesn't have anything to do with the cooking).
It only happens for me wheb I add programs to the start menu that are installed to the Storage card. Try adding all your programs to main memory and see what happens.
cellgeek
16-12-2007, 06:01 PM
Interesting - I haven't run the stock ROM and I didn't notice this with V1.1 or V1.0 so my assumption would be that something changed when V1.2 was "cooked". But the main memory is worth a try.
All four of the programs I have issues with are on the storage card, but only three of them are causing problems. That would imply that one of the programs is handled (or installed) differently. Wonder if it's the .DLL files that carry the icons. . . . .
I'll try the main memory thing. It's very, very annoying that WM can't properly handle an SD card install whereas other mobile OS's appear to work fine. . .
Thanks -
cellgeek

Yep, main memory install seems to fix the icon problem. It's just wierd that Google Maps can be installed on SD and not have the problem, whereas Live Search, Weatherbug and eWallet need to be installed in Main memory.
So much for trying to conserving memory. . . . .

I noticed the exact behavior with the stock ROM that came shipped on my Tilt. Same thing used to happen on my 8525 once upgraded to WM6 too - so I think it is a WM6 issue more than one specific to the cooked ROM.

when the device is powered off or i switch it off by pushing the on/off button on the right i can't turn it back on (other then reset)
This is the screen of death SOD issue. It happens with many ROMs and noone really has a specific fix. It seems, for me at least, that installing programs to the device instead of a SD helps. It is mostly a conflict / screwed up programming of WM6 that causes it. Sometimes I notice I need to press the power button twice, I figure once to make the device think it's off (when it already is) and another to turn it "back" on.
Look at the programs you have installed.

As you might have guessed, the dialer was intentionally taken out. A popular dialer is the black on for the HTC touch that has bigger buttons. Just search the forums for dialers and I am sure you will find one that you like.

For me, this dialer is very functional and has the call history and contacts within it so it works well.

I know the AT&T dialer sucks. But the HTC smartdial program is much better than the M$ one. That's what I was hoping to get back in. Downloading the touch dialer will not give it back that functionality.

I've been using 1.2 for a little while now on my Tilt and have a couple of very strange issues.
1. Occasionally and without warning, my ringer goes to vibrate on its own.
2. From time to time, I'll open up Internet Explorer and try to go somewhere. When I do, it comes back with a blank page. I do a soft reset and it works again for a while.
Both of these issues happen enough that I'm becoming frustrated, but to my knowledge, not on a regular interval. Any ideas? I really love this rom otherwise, but I may have to experiment with another Lite rom if I can't figure out what's going on.

Arcsoft MMS Composer
Microsoft Voice Command
Cingular Cellular Video
OEM Calc

Finster 869 WM6_RDP
HTC Home Plugin

I actually re-cook this ROM, but it seemed faster but not earth shattering.
I just brute force it and hopefully some guru in this forum may correct me or give me some guide line to do it properly.
0. Backup with SpriteBackup 5.1
1. Download Alex's kitchen and his tutorial.
2. Download a ROM which has netcf 3.5 and sqlcemobile 3.5 and put it into the kitchen (BaseROM folder).
3. Extract the ROM, (all you need to do is just run KAISERKITCHEN.CMD, Alex had made it so easy, even a brain dead noob can do it) after all the dust settled, you will see some file folders under SYS directory which are obvious related to this two softwares. Copied them all out to another folder. Clean the kitchen.
4. Put XDA-1.2 into the kitchen, extract it too.
5. Open SYS folder, replace the NETCF folder and sqlcemobile folders with the ones from the previously saved folder.
6. Cook it without adding any new applications ( I also tried putting back some original AT&T applications back and it worked but I had reason not to do that, because I was tire of re-installing softwares.)
7. Now you have a new ROM with old identity, flash it.
8. Run SpriteBackup and restore with the previous backup.
Everything is still there, and the machine seems a little bit faster or to a flash-a-holic, it soothes the mind.:D
Note: Someone said you couldn't do that to a dutty's ROM because he played some tricks to his ROM so re-cooking a dutty is near impossible for a noob.

I like to add couple notes about this ROM. I can use SpriteBackup of XDA-Live1.1 for v1.2 and no problem. I used the backup v1.2 to the re-cook ROM which I called it 1.2a also without problem.
But if I use XDA-Live old backups for other ROM's in this forum, I lost the Phone part of the Tilt. Which means it can't find AT&T and no one answer that question yet. If I got the phone portion back then the PDA part only had the Program panel but lost all the Setting panels which meant it is still useless. It is too much trouble so I kept on using this ROM. After all, it is very decent. I tried many others, some feature differences but not enough to attract to re-install all my softwares. So back to this ROM:D

-Emails and text messages start in the middle or end of the message.
I had a problem seperately from this ROM. Install and run KaiserTweak. Scroll down to PocketIE >> D-Pad Scroll Navigation and switch from Enabled to Disabled. Soft reset.
This should get your messaging back to the top. I am sure there is another way, but this worked for me.

2. From time to time, I'll open up Internet Explorer and try to go somewhere. When I do, it comes back with a blank page. I do a soft reset and it works again for a while.
I get this on my stock AT&T Tilt ROM....

Yeah, first post so I am sure this will sound completely nub, but is the lack of Windows Update a huge problem. I know that there aren't any updates released on it currently, but it is something not added by HTC or AT&T correct so if I wanted my device to have everything MS wrote, it would have that, correct? Would it even be worth looking for cab files for?

Nope, in the event that wm6 has updates, it will be pretty big. I imagine that it will not happen soon.

However, if I wanted to have Windows Update for some extra peace of mind, has anyone seen a cab for it? I haven't been able to find one on either the wiki or on http://www.cinetsystems.com/xda/.

You could look at the Kaiser ROM Kitchen tutorial and try to cook it into the XDA Live ROM. I saw it in the OEM packages that _Alex_ compiled, but that'd be overkill, hehe. The way I figure it, having Windows Update on my phone is a waste of space. As soon as an update comes out, or maybe before, this place is going to have updated ROMs coming out of the woodwork.

I can understand that mentality. However, the way I see it, I just want a uber lightweight ROM that will last me basically until there is an update that actually facilitates a ROM upgrade (WM 6.1?). I am sure MS probably wont push out many if any updates over Windows Mobile, however I would at least like to have it built into the ROM so that if I ever hard reset I could just pop onto Windows Update and get the updates that were previously installed.
Basically, I want to minimize my time spent flashing as I don't like taking more risks than necessary.
On a side note, anyone know the specifics on what the TCP/IP tweaks are? I am having trouble with xda's search feature, so I cannot locate any specific thread where they are mentioned.
As another side note, I would be all for keeping .net CF built into the ROM, but upgrading it to 3.5. Yes, I could just recook the ROM, but to be honest, I have a fear of making any rom-related modifications myself.

Overall I love this ROM, but I have noticed from time to time EAS Push does not work. It is like the phone goes to sleep and doesn't wake up, or get woken up (not sure technically which is correct) to find a new email sitting on our SBS for me. Is this an issolated issue with my phone or are others who use EAS Push finding the same thing? Thanks for the help in advance.

The SMS client was removed from this ROM, so that you could install one of your own choosing (to allow better control over the mailboxes). Hence, the reason you are having trouble.
You can DL the SMS client from the wiki page Kyphur has up, or any other of the file links that are supported by members of the forum to get this functionality back.

I installed the Arcsoft client from the Wiki page, but could not send or receive text messages after installing it either.
My phone 'notifies' me that the message was sent, but it never goes anywhere. I can't even SMS myself...
NOTE: I even tried the latest 'official' AT&T build, but have the same problem with texting there.
About to revert to a 1.56 based ROM to see what happens.

Well, turns out my problem was carrier related.
They turned off *my* texting features for some reason when the wife got a Crackberry 8820.
At least they're working again though.

Anyone got the sliding sounds to work again with the .cab from the wiki page? I install the .cab & SR, but no sounds. It shows the option to modify, but no sounds?
Also, is there a update in the works for this ROM?

I too was wondering about updates. Is it that nothing more needs to be done? Is there a plan to use a different base for the ROM?

If there was any interest, I could release a unofficial updated version with NetCF 3.5 and updated SQLCE Mobile.

If there were any benefits to doing so I would say to go for it and I'll be the first to flash it...but has anyone seen any benefit from using 3.5?

You'll only see a benefit when actually running applications that require NetCF .. I'd recommend it either way. I've switched over to Alex's latest ROM which has it and there are no adverse effects that I've been able to find.

Anyone run into this problem? After flashing from the full to the XDA-Live 1.2, I can no longer access the internet through active sync.
I've have the tilt for only about 4 months and one of the month, the LCD broke, so I haven't have a lot of experience with it. Call me a noob!
Overall, this ROM was an improvement over the ROM that came with it. With the XDA-Live 1.2, the perforance improve even more due to the removal of all the crap that was in there.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks,
Just wanted to bring attention to this ROM again.
With all the mms mishaps, pop3 not popping and not being able to view youtube....it's time to get back to the basics.
If you want an AT&T Rom with all AT&T Services working...this is the Rom for you!
All I did was change the Page Pool to 64mb and this ROM flys!!!
I've installed all my crap....and this Rom is ROCK Solid
My device is configured for business & fun....you install what you like for your purpose.
Not to take away from the new works because I too want the newest and greatest Rom.
For me personally, my device and I are going on hiatus from this flashing stuff for a while.....

dwny, I'm in the same boat right with you. Every time I've flashed to something else, I come crawling right back to this. It's fast and stable.
My next ROM flash is when the finally provide the driver update. Woot!

Just a quick question. I have this ROM installed on my Tilt. I want to upgrade to either the current of this or whatever it's successor is. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I'm getting confused looking in the ROM Dev forum. Thanks!!
