Treo 750 locked by AT & T

I purchased a palm treo 750 on craigslist from an AT & T customer. They provided me with the unlock code, but it must not be correct. I have entered it several times and I have received a message that says: you have tried 6 times, please wait until time out...
How long is this time out, is it permanent?
How can I get around this so that I can use this AT & T phone with my TMobile service?

If you do a google, there are several places online to purchase unlocking software. It will probably cost you approx $35 us.

I used gsmphonesource.com and had no problems. Make sure you have a sim from another provider though. All you need to do is borrow a friends that might be T-mobile or something similar.
