View Full Version : Become senior member?

I was just wondering, what does it take to become a senior member? Do I need a certain amount of posts? How do I do it? Also, what does it take to become a moderator? Does it have something to do with the amount of posts? They always have so many! Please let me know!!!

100+ posts = senior member
rest i don't know.

What ^he^ said. You started out as a Junior member and you're already a member. It happened that same way. As far as moderator goes... probably has to do with either:
1. How respected, resourceful and trusted you are by the admins.
2. How good your application+resume looks if they hire like a real job.
3. If you can figure out how many fingers the admin is holding behind her back. lol

thanks guys, now im gonna have to make more posts so I can become a senior, lol.

Rather than just making posts, try actually making useful ones rather than pointlessly spamming the forum with crap

There is no way you can SPAM all the way to 100 post without the notice of not only the Admin and Mods, but also some of the members here.

There were some Junior Members / Members who write nonsence, with info in 1 post which does not tally with another post got slam left & right, up & down by other normal members.

So watch your way before you either get slam or even worst, get banned!!!

Wow!!! You are really a very senior member.

I like your signature. It has been long time I have last seen assembly programming language. You must be a software engineer!!! :D

what does it take to become a moderator?

What's the mystery? Ł1,000 or a plentiful supply of vaseline.

V

PS I would love to say quality and quantity of posts helps to make you a moderator, but they made me one, and I think I failed on both counts!

Who cares about how many posts you have who cares what your title is. The title doesn't really do much. Why do you want to become a senior if you get nothing out of it? It's just a title..and you aren't granted any permissions.

i dont post much.. i read around alot tho! been here over a year still my post count is low.. i dun care though i just prefer to search/read before asking any questions rather than posting useless posts or flaming others!
IMO a senior member title doesnt matter unless you're carrying th knowledge learning yourself helping out others and praising/giving credits for others hard-work!!

Actually, becoming a member from a junior member, a senior member from a member and also becoming a moderator from a senior member counts nothing. You are just given the title. Like in olden times, there were knights or Sirs. We can't spam the forums just to make our names famous. Its better that to search first, got it read, check out your answer, and then if you don't get it, start a new thread.

Thanks

A lot of people cares...
And permissions are granted by Mods when you deserve it...not before...even if you have 5000 posts or have 40...

Yep. It doesnt matter what the title is. The only title that really matters is moderator or admin and those are only granted if you contribute and being granted admin is very unlikely.

a post should be posted only if its necessary..as it takes space..a senior member may be a title only..but being a senior member proves that you take part in our forum and contribute to it.so its not JUST a title...

Bro, i have been wondering the same question since ive become a member....er junior member.....er experienced nooob....lol, actually i have a lot of experience in networking with surveillance systems access control and integrations , but no writing.....so i am kinda leary on posting anything for fear of it being nothing more than just blanket questions that go no where. I dont wnt to be the guy that posts "need a cool rom, please help".......so i spend my time here reading and reading and reading.......maybe i will start posting some very thoughtful questions and see if i can get any response on maybe creation of new networking tools?

As the forum rules state: If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.

Don't be afraid of posting here. Believe it or not, we all started here with no posts, and this forum is pretty respectful. If you know a lot about a subject, think you could contribute or solve a problem, or otherwise have a reply to a thread, then don't be shy, post it! If you follow the rules and read the appropriate stickies/wiki articles, you'll be just fine here at XDA

To add a bit of Info to it.

Becoming a Moderater at XDA is a democratic process.

That of course starts out with you dishing out a lot of Cash, like it was said before.

Benefits are the Bi-Monthly Poker Night where you can win your money back that you dished out to become a moderator in the first place.

As for the Vaseline, i wouldn't worry to much about that.
they only pulled that prank once on ViJay555.

The most important thing, that can't be measured about being a good member, is one that can't be measured by Vbulletin.
And that is how good someone is at communicating in a normal social non Web 2.0 kind of way.

Hey guys I couldn't find this info anywhere, and I looked around as well as searched (although I'm sure I was one click away from finding out the answer). My question is how do you get an "[OP]" by your name and what does it mean? I've seen people with a lot of posts without them and people with very few posts with them and vice versa (same goes for people with stars and without, which I know is based on donations) so I know it's not a post issue.

OP to mean normally = opcode or operator, but neither of these seemed to fit the puzzle either. I know I am going to feel stupid once I know the answer but I'm used to that by now =p.

I think this thread is very funny and very human, because it is great to see "junior members", "members", "senior members", "moderators", "admins" and more people laughing and joking around, out of the regular duties of each one.

But I found this thread important at the same time, because it confirmed to me that the change from "junior member" to "member" happens at 30 posts and also it solved my doubts about how to change from "member" to "senior member" and how to reach further.

It's very nice to be part of this community!

I think participation is important on any forum. If its relevant and concise, well and good. Internet is mainly defined as interactive media so we shouldnt be shy but we are not all intellectuals or experts. So we shouldnt diminish the value of members who do not donate or upload apps and roms or dont even have a phone to test and verify.

Thanks to the OP of this thread :)

I think the off-topic forum shouldn't add to post count. And maybe the number for each should rise.. I mean cheese and rice, I'm a senior member. Kinda awesome, but I can think of forums that I was MUCH more active on and never had any sort of "Senior Member" title, or similar.

Somehow I find this thread useless. People in various forums are pretty obsessed with ranks. They should be obsess with making the community grow instead. No offense guys. Btw it doesn't matter if your junior or senior member, your contribution that counts. Just my two cents.

Some people like to have knowledge which is the point of this whole forum so would it not make sense to have knowledge about the forum in which we are participating if not for just knowledge second. And if you do not like these threads or threads that "don't matter" would it not be easier to just avoid them all together rather than just posting about how you do not like them.

Of course it is. We're all here to learn one way or another. But isn't it quite pointless the knowledge that you are seeking? Instead why don't you seek the knowledge of the rules here? Yes that's an excellent idea, and I do that ALL the time. But once in a while I do check what's the fuss is all about. I'm just simply stating my opinion, is there a law against it? Maybe if your in a communist country. But not in XDA-dev. I'm not trying to ruff some feather here, so take a chill pill.

No one truly cares about the rank. A new member who posts a great rom would be just as appreciated as someone with 300 posts.

I don't believe that most sites have strict criteria for becoming a mod. It has more to do with how one interacts with the community and how helpful/respected they are. I also wouldn't be surprised if by asking about becoming a mod you are put on a black list.

Yep, paradox alert, as it stops people asking, yet causes them to ask other valid questions, causing us to respond...

But hey... paradoxes are cool :)

I guess people like to know when they become a senior member as they will see people with the rank and wonder how they can get it...

Was this useful? Or, based on your signature, just an offensive answer?

Unfortunately, when you are a new member, like me, you have to make 10 posts before you can even see some things (strange). And when you know very little, and are learning, it's hard to even make 10 useful posts. This is my first "useless" post. :)

8 posts - Market place access
10 posts - Unlocks Development Posting restriction
30 posts - Regular member status
100 posts - Sr member status

I do most of my browsing on this forum from my phone not my PC. Therefore I do not even see stats without viewing author's profile, something I am not inclined to do as it just takes up too much time. I have learned more about member credibility by reading than anything else. I think credibility issues arise when someone who is new and doesn't like to read or has a problem requiring an immediate solution, throws a post up and relies on the information given them by the first person who answers. Who's fault is that? If you're in a hurry to post to gain my recognition you're wasting your time because I'm probably not going to notice! This last sentence was not directed at anyone in particular, especially the OP. Thanks all for reading.

But you can post elsewhere. It's to stop spam and questions in development

Not a filler post...already there but anyway

I just read the svetius interview and frankly...I want in the developer secret lounge.... does that mean I better get cracking and get a rom published? I don't want to brick anyones phone. How do I get into this club? Please advise.

The applications for forum specific moderator open on occasion. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263 for more info (scroll down 3 announcements). They are closed at present.

The TG01 appears to have a mod already though (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958206)

ah yes, but i dont see them around too much :) and i thought it would be better to get a moderator of a forum that owns the device, so they can monitor it closely :)

Thanks! :)

I think that everyone on this site has something to offer to someone else no matter senior, junior, mod or dev we can always learn something we didn't know or be reminded of something we didn't remember. its what makes social interaction productive.

Every time I open this forum (far too often - ask my boss/missus) I learn something new. The variety, intelligence and ingenuity of the members here continually amazes me. And it's not always the guy with a thousand posts either.

Amateurs built the Ark. Professionals built the Titanic.

In amongst all the 'Junior' Members today, somewhere is the next Chainfire, the next designgears, the next kennethpenn, the next AdamHolden, the next kholk, the next Da_G, the next whoever!

Free bit of bumpage for an excellent thread! The things you stumble across late at night... ;)

I was gonna make a post about the exact same thing. I was just a bit curious. I used that magic empty box next to the magnifying glass in the upper right hand corner and found this. I was wondering because I have seen people with less post counts then me, but a senior member ranking. I'm not gonna make a bunch of pointless posts tho. I have been a member of XDA for almost two years...a lurker if you will. I generally search for any thing I need and try to avoid cluttering up the forum with "thanks" or "cool" if that's all that I have to say because that space can be saved for something of importance, and it helps reduce the time it takes to browse a topic IMO.

This thread may have started four years ago, but it's had steady attention - the last four pages are all in 2011. It's good that people use the search. It's good to not start new threads. There's nothing wrong with responding to a thread that has ongoing yet sporadic posts in it.

If it's relevant to the topic at hand, there should be no reason that a thread from four years ago can't be resurrected. I believe that applies to any thread, even if the last four pages weren't from 2011.

I'm sooo close right now :D

Just so that this isn't a 'me too' post, wanted to add that 30 posts changes you from a junior to a regular member...

Ahh, the good old days.

How does it feels, does a retired moderator can unretire again....

I guess anything is possible :)

Since I was retired due to inactivity, I think it's possible. Only one way to find out, perhaps after AT&T has snapdragon w/ hw keyboard running android...

So..... when hell freezes over? I think AT&T purposefully stays away from good Android phones *cough*Backflop*cough*

Anyone feeling the chill? HTC Status is out on AT&T. It brings me back to 2007 as it looks like a blackberry curve minus the trackball.

Look forward to my thread bump in 2015! Long live XDA Developers :p

Rather than just making posts, try actually making useful ones rather than pointlessly spamming the forum with crap

I need to start posting in these random threads just so I can start using the Thank button for the awesome dev community on here! No, you need to make meaningful posts helping others as best you can so your posts aren't deleted as useless spam ;)

johnston9234

Nothing makes me madder than spam in the dev section. If your gonna spam do it in the General of your respective phone

reinbeau
19th November 2011, 11:30 PM
No, I really do have to make 10 meaningless posts because anything I have to contribute would be in the dev sections...and that is not allowed at first. But alas, I have gotten my 10 posts and am still responding in this thread...I'm not sure why...ha ha

Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premiumYou really should reevaluate your attitude here on XDA. It'll go a long way towards your continued posting privileges. Just sayin'. Think before you respond - or don't respond at all, and just....think.

reinbeau
20th November 2011, 04:53 PM
How is there anything wrong with my attitude? I find it counterproductive to make 10 posts in the General and OffTopic forums before being able to post in the Dev forums...which is the core of XDA. How that reflects a bad attitude and the need to "think" before posting eludes me.

Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premiumThe policy was set so that people would participate without making nonesense posts. The thought was those who were so knowledgeable would start out by helping, not arguing with moderators. You seem combative and unhelpful - not a good start here. I suggest you think a bit before continuing this particular discussion.
