To Lock Device quickly
Keep finger on the Red (Call End) button and it will bring up some options including keylock.

Not sure if anyone's noticed this but when I end a call on my Dual there is annoying little delay of about 3 seconds before the actual call is ended so I searched the registry and found this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PHONE\PhoneExtendS etting]

And I changed the value of EndCallTime from 3000 to 1000 re-booted and voila no more delays when ending calls;)

This is an advertised feature but apparently not too many people are aware of it. Go to the phone app and start tapping the first couple of letters of the contacts name and the name matches will appear for you to choose from. I find this much easier than opening up the Contacts app and scrolling down to the name you need.

HKLM\Software\HTC\Biotouch\Biotouch\ regulates the FPS of the cubeanimation.
Change "DownFPS", "LightFPS" und "UpFPS" to something higher for a smoother (and faster) animation.

Disable 3G, if not needed (it drains the battery faster than GSM):

Edit the registry key HKLM\Software\OEM\UMTS\OpMode and set it to "1"

Then also you could change that setting
Phone Settings --> Band --> Network Type --> GSM

To activate the changes, open the comm manager from the Cube, disable the phone and enable it again.

In italy with Vodafone I can't able to select also the Network Band GSM/UMTS to "GSM(900)" but I have to let it configured as "Auto" or "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"

Ello, new here.. no idea if this helps a few Dual owners but..

Apps found to work on the touch dual:

S2u2 (iphone slide to unlock app), works like a charm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343256

HHC, HTC Home Customizer (name says it all), also working like a charm:
http://www.pocketemu.com/download4.html

gfreek, thnx for the EndCallTime key, works perfect and.. 1 less annoying feature to go ;)

Things I'm still looking to solve:
1. Mp3 ringtone seems to fade out after picking up a call, for about 2/3 seconds the ringtone is still audible :S
2. Looking for settings for the Handsfree profile, i have an Lm959 bluetooth bracelet (how geeky, i know), works fine.. but only for calls, the device is capable of blinking the leds on receiving msgs, im looking for the settings to enable just that on the TD.
3. Polling frequency of the TD seems to be on the high side, f.e. it takes about 3 rings from someone before the TD starts "ringing", since voicemail kicks in @ ring 6 I miss a lot of calls.
I found a topic about just this problem with the touch(Elf) on sprint networks, with a quickcode (##7380# I think, well.. I'm not on sprint..so that doesnt work over here.. anyone with any clue would be welcome.. My current solution is disabling voicemail..)

You can invoke s2u2 instead normal devicelock

just install s2u2, rename Slide2Unlock.exe to EndKey.exe and copy all files to windows directory, with resco explorer.

Go with Total Commander to:

\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\CommManager and change the key
"SupportedFunctions" from 4 to 5

then make a new map named "5" (without the quotes)
go to that map and make a STRING named "default" and the string must
be "3G" (also without any quotes).

Then turn the phone off and on again and there is a 3G setting in your CommManager. I did not manage yet to add a icon in front of it ;)
(and also not tested the working of the new setting)

ah found it, at least for UK Orange people:

Please bear in mind that the following code is only valid for phones on the Orange UK network.

The code to set the length of time your phone rings is:

**61*07973100123*11*??#

Where ?? is the time in seconds, e.g. to set the ring time to 30 seconds you would type the following code at the standby screen then press the green send button:

**61*07973100123*11*30#

To make your phone ring for only 10 seconds:

**61*07973100123*11*10#

The code works in 5 second intervals, i.e. you can set 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 & 30 seconds.

works fine. thank god.

I don't know if it is common knowledge or not but the dual distinguish between finger-nail (=stylus) and finger
So, for example, in the email app, you can use your fingernail to select multiple emails vs. flick your finger to scroll the email list

Wondering...is there a way to adjust the keypad light to stay on longer? It's kinda short and I always have to hit a key to get it to lite back up. I guess I can get used to using some harmless keypress to do it, just a tad annoying.

double tap empty space in outlook to open current highlighted message :)

also, to make the touch keyboards draggable around screen do:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip\

Now go to 'DragStyle' and change (0) to (1)

Reboot

xt9 half qwerty tips:

XT9 is actually incredibly intelligent software. It uses complex algorithms based on what keys were near the one you actually typed, and combines them with its dictionaries to guess what you were trying to type. And it does very, very well. Anything that can guess the word 'friend' from the keystrokes 'ddeuabd' or 'thorough' from 'ggoedoujgg' is pretty darn clever.

* first thing to do is tick on the all the xt9 settings except 'next word prediction' which is mildly amusing at first but after a while just plain annoying.

* To stop the default keyboard from always going back to 'ABC' aka multitap, change/create the registry key 'CarrierDefaultTextMode' as outlined here:

http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=97265

* Use the 'Alt' key to access numbers and symbols on the top of the keys. Pressing and holding does the same thing. If you want to type all numbers/symbols double press 'Alt' to lock it on, press ONCE again to go back to normal. Double press the shift key to type in ALL CAPS.

The little 'xt9' icon at the top of screen tells you what format you're typing in.

Shift key toggle:
- xt9 = normal
- XT9 = single capital
- XT9 underlined = all caps

Alt key toggle:
- 12# = single number
- 12# underlined = all numbers

* every so often XT9 uses a strange default word. My issues were 'boy' for 'not', and 'st' for 'at'. You can fix this by selecting the word you want three times in a row. This seems to 'teach' it and sets it as the first word it chooses each time.

* the first row of symbols can be quickly accessed by pressing * and the relevant number (e.g. *4 gives an apostrophe, *7 will give you a smiley).

If anyone figures out how to change the symbol map, pls let me know!

For the people who don't like the XT9: you can disable it using the following file: HTC+Touch+Dual-default-ABC.cab

In fact you're not disabling it but just setting the "abc" mode as default...

If you want to undo the change, check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406128

Can anyone point me in the right direction to the 'registry' that you talk about as I want to edit the settings but don't know where to find it.

P.s. I have the Orange firmware which is fugly and ruins the OEM one by making it totally unituitive.

Finally I would be very grateful if someone could please tell me how to change the key tap in messaging (XT9) when I want to put in the letter 'a', it gives me, for some stupid reason, the letter 'c' (wtf!?!?!)

Thanks in advance

Hi twolf,

I am running the TOUCH 3G version of M2D on my Niki100 and so far, no problems, except when I turn on bluetooth, the icons never shows up.

But I if receive a beam, the icon came on briefly... heard it's a bug.

But Jade version is running smooth on my niki. Might wanna consolidate our findings...

----------------------

Anyway, just some things that you need to note with htchomsettings.xml for manila 2D

1. any changes to the home screen (additional or minus) will change the formatting of your clock (analogue or digital) greatly.

This includes lines, analogue or digital clock, alarm icon so on and so off.

2. The only way to overcome this is to take the htchomesettings.xml and edit the positions again.

Hope these helps.

Is there a way to stop alarms during a call? Mine always seems to check my email as soon as I answer a call and I can never hear the 2nd thing anyone says to me!
Christian: "Hi Christian speaking."
Caller: "Hello this is x."
Christian: "Hello x, how can I help?"
Phone: "BONG... BONG... BONG...
Christian: "I'm sorry, can you say that again please?" :(

Also; my phone is pretty vanilla but when I put it on vibrate only using the T-Mobile/HTC Today screen app it still makes a ringing sound if I get voicemail. Pretty annoying when in a meeting & I remembered to put it on vibrate only!
