So I have heard, but can anyone confirm this? Mobileplanet is apparently saying otherwise:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands#UMTS.2FHSDPA.2FHSUPA_frequenc y_bands_deployment
" * Band I (W-CDMA 2100) in Europe and Asia (Brazilian mobile carriers will deploy W-CDMA 2100 as well)
* Band IV (W-CDMA 1700) in America (e.g. T-Mobile)
* Band V (W-CDMA 850) in Australia (Telstra NextG) and Brazil (Telemig Celular and Claro)
* Band VIII (W-CDMA 900) in Europe (e.g. Elisa Oyj)
* 1900 / 850 (independently, for both the uplink and downlink) for America (e.g. AT&T Mobility)"
http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_s730.htm
"
HSDPA/UMTS: 2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad-band (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
(The device will operate on frequencies available from the cellular network)"
Oh NOs! But I'm kinda confused at this 850 and 1900 AT&T thing. Will the phones hardware just be like "Nah, son. Too much bandwidth."

Called HTC Tech Support 866-449-8358:
The AT&T Tilt (http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_tytn_II.htm)
"HSDPA/UMTS: Tri-band 850, 1900, 2100 MHz"
The S730 (http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_s730.htm)
"HSDPA/UMTS: 2100 MHz" http://www.lotus911.com/blogs/smelser.nsf/emoticons/MSMR-7777N9/$File/EmoticonCrying.gif
Transferred to AT&T:
to sales... asked for tech support... sales person got me an answer which was "yea.. it's compatible..." "really? are you sure? I don't think you all offer 3g coverage in this frequency range" "oh it's not a phone you bought from us?" "yes I said that already, can you transfer me to tech support" "oh let me transfer you to customer service." "yes that'd be great. thanks" "i'd like to personally thank you for calling AT&T. did you have any questions today?" yes. how are you employed? CS Reps unavailable this late in the day.
Damn. Oh well.. I use T-Mobile anyway... so I didn't expect fast or good or stable or acceptable coverage of any kind.

my S730 is due to come today..I guess it will be going back....why did they make a device with no 3G connectivity in USA?.....mobileplanet is going to get a lot of returns!

Because it's not a device for the U.S. ;)

I spoke to On The Go Solutions prior to ordering the "US released" S730 product and they stated that 1900Mz UMTS is supported by the unit and cautioned me that one must be utilizing AT&T's network to use the feature.
I ordered the unit only to find the statement is incorrect - only 2100Mz is supported; thus no US UMTS support.
On The Go Solutions has offered to take back the unit.
I note that the ambiguous "UMTS supported" statements on several US vendor web sites have been changed to unambiguous "2100Mz-only UMTS supported" statements.
Whereas there is NMEA GPS data on comm 4 (8 bit, 4800 baud), the data does not appear to contain any useful information. No actual satellite data is provided, even though I have left the unit outside, with an unobstructed view of the sky, for over an hour.

S730 received FCC clearance for the US. I wonder if this helps us.

Yeah, saw that. This is model WING200, mine is model WING220. Wonder what the difference in hardware is.

WINGS220 is the modelID for single band WINGS. Maybe the diversification is only done by software configuration (e.g. NV items). See my thread on Radio ROM dump where I explain how to dump NV items. Someone should compare them.

3g wont work in the states, even on ATT. I see mine try from time to time but it always ends up back on Edge. T mobile is rumord to be working on a 2100 band 3g network but no real word on it yet.
I would love 3g but I dont really miss it either. Edge is fast enough and I am a heavy data user, I only notice issues when its trying to reformat a website that was not made very well.

Okay this may come as a dumb question. I have T Mobile and this phone has the Bands such as 850 and 1900 so will this phone work in the states?

Negative, theres speculation in other threads that depending on the chip version in the phone it can be unlocked through software tweeks but at the moment it is just speculation so it will not work in the states.
If the American version releases you bet that will work on 3g. As of now our phones use the 50, 900, 1800, 1900 for voice communication and GPRS / EDge while using 2100 for 3g. T-Mobile has been working on deploying a 2100 band 3g network so it is possible that it might work on your phone eventually in one of their markets.
But as of now unless your in an area where they have it set up, or we figure out what the chip is and see if changing one of the settings wil enable these 3g frequencies for the states its a no go :(

Okay so i have done some research and from what i have read the phone will work in the states utilizing GPRS/EDGE. I have read Forums with people who live in the states and have this phone. Now the one thing is that you wont be able to use the 3G stuff which is fine by me because I currently have a Excalibur which doesnt have it anyways. I am still a lil confused because i get all this different information from people saying that you wont be able to use the phone and others that say you will. Someone help clear this up for me please :(!!!!

I've had the S730 sense Dec. 07 and use with AT&T, no 3G but it works great. I'm more then pleased and I live in the Carolina's.
