View Full Version : [Updated 1/15/08] Pandora Naked 6a ROM

NOTHING IS EVER FINAL!!!
Here's my Naked 6 ROM with the following:
Windows Mobile 6 Professional CE OS 5.2.1620 Build 18128.0.4.4
Camera 4.0 build 28276
Arcsoft MMS 4.2.8.1
Internet Sharing
10 Button Black Comm Manager
Comm Manager Vibe Toggle
PreConfig launches SetHSDPA & SetAccousticParameters.
Points to note:
6.0 Does not include the scroll speed increase. See post 168 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1820167&postcount=168) for the registry changes.
Button 5 is mapped and ready to use / PTT is disabled
The Big Storage versions use Bepe's Big Storage OS.nb/XIP v3.60 and is based on a stripped version of austinsnyc Lite ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335257) (with permission - thanks dude!) - which was from the original 3.62 AT&T release.
The non big storage roms use the 3.62.3 base OS.nb/XIP.
It does not launch extended ROM or storage card installations, nor does it include a radio, IPL/SPL, splash screens, extended rom, or anything else. JUST THE OS.
Memory Details:
W/Big Storage
Storage Free: 78.7
Program Free: 31.10
(Launcher and poutlook.lnk removed from /Windows/Startup - nothing installed, after reset/fully rebooted and all programs killed)
I would recommend you install the .NET Framework after flashing, as I did not include 2.0 or 3.5 in the base and some programs you install / use may require it to work. See the next post for links / downloads.
Why? I wanted a super stripped and fast base to add my cabs to with a crapload of storage. I don't have the time to keep tweaking my custom rom configuration, so this will give me the most flexibility and performance.

More Stuff:
Using KarhU's stats, I put together this build based on performance statistics. It's clean and fast - and should run as fast (if not faster) as the best one's out there.
Here's KarhU's great thread on benchmarking. I've learned a lot from his work - it's an excellent asset for tuning :)
KarhU's Benchmarking Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320370)
Note too that I didn't include the .rgu files. Please use the kitchen if you want to use the components / build your own.
Known Issues / Fixes:
None
History
Pandora 5 to 6.0 - for big storage, removed the file OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL
Kitchen 6a to 6b - added scroll speed increase
Pandora 6b 3G Kitchen

I sure hope this is the last rev, I gotta get the laundry folded and the house vacuumed before the wife really gets pissed
As long as I didn't re-introduce the PIE issue, I'm pretty solid this is a good setup. Everyone's feedback on 4U went into it. The only outstanding question is the data auto-disconnect, but I don't think that'll warrent a rev at this point.

Hi mattk_r :)
First: great job! :) Again! :D
Sec: I have a question. I was looking for solution, but I found only not 100% working.
When i try to replay to sms, new window comes a little bit scrolled down - I don's see recipient.
Disabling D-pad navigation is not working. Its making it worse.
So here is my question: Is this behaviour is normal in this Build? If not, is there some reg/hack that can fix it?
Thank You.

This is normal as i know it. It places the cursor at the top of the text field at the top of the screen. I presume it expects that you know who you replied to, and want to see the data entry area.
I imagine there may be some scroll setting that effects where the screen is displayed, but I haven't seen it before.

Any feedback on audio quality? I noticed that it's pretty loud, but the setacousticparameters seems to run well on initial boot.
I did notice that Audio Manager isn't fully happy with .NETFX 3.5. It runs perfectly with 2.0, and KarhU found there isn't any speed difference between the two. I'd recommend just using 2.0 for now, unless you install an application that was developed in VS2k8 with dependencies to 3.5.
I also noticed that syncing music from Windows Medial Player in XP messed up the audio - kind of like "skipping". Copying the music directly to the SD card and updating the libarary worked perfectly. Because the syncing didn't work before, this is the first time I've ever tried to use WMP. I'm curious if this is a typical behavior of WMP and the WM on the phone. I'll have to do some digging.
Also - the picture of the 3G dialpad in the first post doesn't show the up/down arrows on the smartdialer. I didn't reflash to get the pic - rather just installed the cab - which in this scenario doesn't have the arrows. The actual 3G ROM looks much better and the smartdialer is complete.

Noticed Pre-Final 5 & Final 5 button 3 are not mapped to the Communication Manager. Under settings, I'm unable to select Comm Manager from the drop down.
Of course this could be something I've done, since flashing the phone about 10 times in the last 24hrs :o

"Pre-Final" did have that problem, but the final should not - as it's what's on my phone now. If you can, try a fresh download and see if the solution is fixed.

Has anyone else had a problem with this rom hard-resetting itself? I've never experienced it with another rom but have seen it twice w/ Naked 5 (1-4 were fine). The first time I had to go through the initial setup again (calibrate screen, etc), but all of my programs were still there. The second did a complete hard reset. I'm not installing anything I don't usually install or configuring anything differently than I have for the last several months.

I think what's happening is the big storage memory allocation issue. I suspect that the memory management isn't perfect with the extended rom space being reallocated.
I'm posting non-big storage builds now using the 3.62.3 ROM if you have trouble with the big storage version. I personally haven't seen it happen, but this is the second recount of the issue.

Another possibility is the presence of the OEMDRIVERS file OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL per bepe's original thead.
I'll rebuild the big storages again and see what happens.

If 5 is working for you - I'd suggest keeping it.
I'm only removing one dll from version 6 to match the orignal list of changes bepe made for the big storage adaption. I'm keeping 5 on mine :)

Could be. I've had issues w/ big storage once before (I believe an HC Lite ROM) and the device would just freeze occasionally. I'll check out the rebuilt big storage variant and switch to non-big storage if needed.

any idea what's the OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL is about? Why is it there in the first place, when you just can remove it without problems?
Just build my own ROM from your naked kitchen, with removal of OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL. See how it works...

Hi Matt,
I've dumped the Naked 5 ROM with tadzios toolchain and made many changes to registry and files. What have i exactly to do to make it like Naked 6?
Only remove one file from dump-directory? (OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL) Do i have to make other changes too (registry,..)?
I also found a reg-key under HKLM which directs to the Extrom.
Search for config.txt in registry and you'll see two Keys for Extrom. I removed them, but now Setacousticparams run for 1 minute after HR and Customer Feedbackicon is active again, so i don't know if this was a good "tweak". Maybe it was because of another change i made.
Matt, will you please disable showing SIM-Contacts by default in future?
I do run Naked 5 with my tweaks but i don't have any problems by now (except the one i made myself).
I'm still impressed how fast this one is! Very happy now.

As for the battery icons, if you install another dialer it would do that. I just flashed 6 without 3G and it is the %.

Using your naked kitchen (where is it, you removed it from the first post?). Only 72,34 Mb Storage, so no superbigstore. After removing OEM_FLASHDRV still only 72,34 Mb. I can access the Extended_ROM and write to it.
Any idea how to get the real bigstore of 78 Mb with this kitchen?

Correct - only the one file removed from 6.
As for that reg entry, it isn't a problem. It's only referenced at first boot if the PreConfig calls the AutoRun.exe.
The SetAcousticParams is running as I understand it does in other roms (I think Schaps was referenced). I haven't noticed a difference either way - fast or slow loading.
I can add the SIM contact edit going forward, no problem.

Not sure about the live issue either. i just loaded the latest live version, had it put the search on the desktop, typed in Halo, hit search, and an IE window opened up and did a live search on it. Which live version are you using? I've got 10.6.33.060

The dll removal was only to prevent the OS from attempting to access the extended rom, and possibly cause an error. It shouldn't cause / effect anything else other than a few kb savings.
When you ran the kitchen, had you added anything? I consistantly get 78+ free.
I ran out of time to upload the kitchens, but the contents are exactly the same as 5 - minus the OEM_FLASHDRV and the different ROM folder.
And yes - you will still be able to access the extended rom space with a Big Storage ROM, but what will happen is you'll write a file to the "extended rom" space, but in fact you're overwriting data in the main "storage" location. I'd recommend not accessing the extended rom at all with a Big Storage rom installed.

Ok for me the dunce :P I'm sure I can figure out deleting the OEM_FLASHDRV from the 5 kitchen but I don't quite understand the differnt ROM folder. Does this just mean it's renamed or what change do I need to make when you say differnt ROM folder? :)
Also, any plan to release the kitchen for the non-superstorage version? I tend to find that they are more stable then superstorage versions plus it is nice to have a storage space that can survive a hard reset (aside from my SD-Slot)
Thanks again for your hard work!

OK, still having issues w/ freezing and spontaneous hard resets, but I think it may be due to the version of Home I'm using (Schen cab, with Hermes brightness fix). I noticed that on one of the previous hard resets home was failing to load. I soft-reset, but was taken all the way back to the screen calibration (all of my programs remained intact). This time the device froze while changing the Home tab order in Settings->Today. Soft reset, would just hang on the second splash screen. I've been using this Home cab since it was released, and have had no problems thus far.
I *love* this rom, and would like to keep using Home. Can someone who's using Naked 5 or 6 recommend another Home version?

I don't use (or like :) ) HTC Home, but run a very vanilla scheme. I only have MS Voice, Lordsmiff's BatteryGuage, the Kaiser 10 button com manager, a PaulyA dialskin and duttythroy's task manager and that's about it. (Actually I've also grown fond of HTC Plus)... nothing else. I've only seen these problems on the Big Storage that Austinsync created for me with the 3.62 build... I wouldn't let that one out of the gate, then Austinsync left me for the Kaiser world....
I love Matt's efforts with this but this dog just won't hunt for me... back to my Austinsync vanilla ROM for a while ....
(Actually this time it was so pissed I could only flash the official AT&T ROM so I think my bootloader got screwed up... so then I'll HardSPL 7 again, then go forth out into the world...)

So far so good. This is the first time since version 4 that I've actually gotten everything configured w/o a freeze/hard reset. I'll keep you posted.

I just wanted to go over a couple things, since there's a few problems being faced and hope they're not user induced. Forgive me if I'm covering something you already know / checked.
1. If you use a program that accesses the extended rom, such as total commander, you run the risk of having it "write" to that area, even if you only browse the contents. Any applications that you have that already reside in that space will be overwritten, and would cause a critical error on your device.
2. If after installing all of your applications you notice instability / freezing, I recommend starting with the base ROM and using it for a period of time. Then progressively install your applications over time to find if / which is causing the issue.
3. Even more obvious - don't flash an extended rom after flashing a big storage OS...
Why do I write this? Because I use what I post and I haven't had a single issue yet - and I stress the crap out of my phone. Here's what I install via cab from my SD:
HTC Home v2
HTC Album
Windows Live
Xpress Mail
Topo
Google Maps
Cingular WAP Settings v2 no battery icon
MS Reader
Monopoly
Solitare
.NETFX CE 2.0
A2DPFix
ATIFix
Flash Format (as necessary)
X-Button
S2U2

Any idea how to resolve this?

any reason why you added these files in the OEMAPPS and not as separate OEM-maps, like your previous kitchens? something to do with the bitstorage?

By placing them in an already existing folder, I eliminated the additional .dsm files from the build. Every little bit helps :)

Hi, i tried to create a Kaiser style 3G Dialer for this ROM, but i always get the dialpad without numbers 7,8,9.
Pandora3G Dialpad is working well, but schens Kaiser3G Dialpad 2.00 and my try do not work properly.
Does anybody know a cab install for Kaiser3G Dialpad without changing the batteryicon style?
Must the phCanoverbmp.dll be included in a 3G-dialer cab. There is already one in the windows-directory.
Seems one file is doing the correct alignment of the bimaps, but i haven't found out how this really works, and i've been trying for hours by now.
Have recooked everything to Kaiserstyle (CommManager, WMP) and all installables are Kaiserstyle too (Streaming Media, Calculator, ....) but only thing missing is the 3G Dialer. :(

So you don't need the .dsm files then?
If it's a package from the OEM pack, no. Some folders in the SYS and the OEMDRIVERS/OEMAPPS, etc, requre them to be present. I know this because if you remove the .dsm files from the dump folder after running BuildOS, some of the applications won't work. I don't know exactly which ones though.

Hi matt, i made a Trayiconmattermode.exe which doesn't contain any bitmaps, so if set to vibrate there is no icon in bottom bar. You can add this to your kitchen or replace the file in your Pandora Naked ROM with the attached one. This might be very useful for people using the new and GREAT LG KS20 Plugin.
Now the Bottom bar of Plugin can set to bottom of screen. The vibrate icon was waste because it's a second time in top bar.
The Wirelessicon can be easily removed by registryentry.

I don't have one handy, but if you download one of my OEM/SYS packages from the kitchen thread, you just need to copy the NETCF folder from /SYS to the same in this kitchen.

You have a excellent Rom until you install Audio Manager, I have tried three different versions and they all slow the rom down. I notice it mostly in using the scroll wheel, it becomes very erratic. I really, really, really hate giving up Internet Sharing, but I am going to have to hold off on both yours and Pays rom. There is no need for you to rebuild your rom, just delete TrayIcon_MannerMode.exe in your \Windows\Startup folder and replace it with the one in the zip file. Should take you less than a minute.

Hi, i already noticed a slowdown after install of AudioManager in many other ROMs. This doesn't seem to be ROM related.
First i thought it is caused by HTC Home, but it seems to be because of a combination of AudioManager and AudioManager Today-Plugin, but i can't find the reason. Maybe a new version of Audiomanager solves this problem soon.
Audiomanager slows the device with every NETCF Version. :(

You need to softreset manually after install, because i don't know how to tell the cab to softreset automaticly.

One trick I like to use (without knowing any other way myself) is to overwrite a dll or exe that was cooked into the rom. A good one to pick that won't effect the rom at all is PreConfig.exe. Just include this in your list of files, and at the end of installation it will require a reset.
As for the slow device, I'm quite happy now with Windows Media. The library works great, and it syncs fine with my XP machine's Windows Media Player. For the moment I'm still using .NET 2.0, but I'm sure I could uninstall / reinstall 3.5 without issue.

I have attached below the cab from the 1st Link.

I ran out of free downloads for the day at RabbidShare, so here's the 2nd Link to the Customization plugin:
http://rapidshare.com/files/62499990/HHCv10b5.zip.html
Here's boz's included instructions:
Quote
Installation guide:-
If you do not have the newest version of Schen's 6 Button HTC Home today screen plugin already installed (v2.1.1005.722) you can download that HERE and install it to your device, as you need it to install the Customisation cab file.
If you now have the 6 Button HTC Home today screen plugin installed and working, you can now proceed to download and install the Customisation plugin which is available HERE. It is best to install and run this from your storage card as it will hog your devices memory otherwise.
The installation of the Customisation cab file will be automatic with full on screen prompts. After installation if you go to programmes you will find a black icon with HHC, tap on it to run the programme which will allow you to view, download and change your icons etc to whatever suits you.
If you have any problems with the contacts tab not showing, then you will need to remove the registry entry HKLM/Software/OEM/MASD/Quickdial using Resco Explorer or similar.

Everyone I talked to on my phone complained about how loud I was (insert joke of your choice here). However, w/ this ROM I have had those same people tell me that I am no where near as loud on the other end of the call now. Any idea what's different about this ROM that would cause this? So, are you and the people you talk to happier now - with the way matts rom is now?
Or, were you and they happier before?
Because if you don't like the way it is now, all you have to do is soft reset right after SetHSDPA, that will stop SetAccousticParameters short.

It's definitely better with this ROM. Guess I didn't realize that the setacousticparameter stuff had any effect on microphone gain (I thought it only increased the speaker volume).

Ok now to an issue I've been having that I haven't found a solution to on here. I don't know if it's related to your kitchens or just to me, but the issue is that everytime I run the camera app, I am asked about storing the pictures in my storage card. Clicking yes seems fine, but after leaving the app, and running it again, I'm asked again to store into the storage card. Going through the configuration settings in the camera app also only gives me two options, 1)Network 2)Main Memory . I don't have Storage Card as an option, even though I can access my storage card from other applications.
Any insight would be appreciated.

i duuno why it can't
There's a coule of things you need to do. First, I'd suggest downloading my kitchen OEM Pack 1.2, then take the contents of the Pandora 3G Dialer (minus the options.xml, the .rgu, .dsm, and the initflashfiles if present) and copy the contents to the OEM/OEMApps folder. Confirm the overwrite, then without clicking anything, delete the newly added highlighted files. That's the sure way to get all the old dialer files.
Next, just put the folder for the Touch w/3G dialpad folder and put it into the OEM folder. Run BuildOS, check the checkbox and proceed as normal.

yes...i did tried removing the whole OEMAPPS and use KAISER dialpad
but it show the kaiser dialpad image, with pandora key place, and pandora's image when click on, the smart dialing is the one occupying whole width, with white background(the smartdial from WM6??) i dunno how to get it done
(be the way..i can't interpret that the corrupted image is from pandora 3G or black 2G dialpad)

Is your storage card full? If so, I believe it'll behave this way.
If that's not it, backup the data on the card, format the card and try again.
I have over 700mb of space left, plus all my other apps can access files on the storage card. I did a hard reset of my rom and it works fine, and I had a hunch that maybe it was caused when I added the "network" reference to the system in the way of PocketLAN. Anyways, it seems like as soon as I ran PocketLAN which asks if u want to set "Network" accessible through explorer. And when you do that, somehow the camera application can't handle more then two options where to store the pictures. So instead of "Main Memory" and "Storage Card" its "Main Memory" and "Network" only after allowing PocketLAN to set a network folder.
Hopefully there is a registry setting somewhere, where we can remove the "network" option from the camera app, and have it be able to store pictures back in the "Storage Card"
Anyone have any ideas?

This is a note of thanks to mattk_r for creating Pandora Naked 6 ROM and making it freely available. I have been disappointed with other ROMs I tried after suffering the performance penalties of "useless app diarrhea." My idea of a good Hermes is a highly usable system that gives me quick access to exactly what I need and that doesn't annoy me with hesitations, unwanted buzzes, beeps, dialog boxes that have to be answered unnecessarily, illogical layouts, or other such things. My objective is not to install as many apps as possible. It is to install exactly what I want and configure access in what seems to me to be the most logical ways. Different users have different ideas about such things and Pandora Naked 6 ROM makes it easy for anyone qualified to select and install a custom assortment of cabs and do some minor custom configuration and troubleshooting along the way an easy way to get what they want.
I was about to start creating my own ROM code when I discovered mattk_r's Pandora Naked 6 ROM. I decided to give it a try. After a couple days installing and configuring apps I am very pleased with the results. I have installed a rather large collection of software and still have plenty of free space if I decide to add more. There hasn't been a single lockup or processing hesitation. The speed, especially switching quickly between applications, is dramatically better than with the other ROMs I tried. It is enough better that any user would immediately notice the difference. Because the apps are not flashed into the ROM I can easily update or remove them at any time.
I strongly endorse Naked 6 ROM for anyone willing to spend a day or two to get exactly what they want. That said, Naked 6 ROM would not be a good solution for someone who knows little or nothing about installing cabs, tweaking the Registry, and doing other types of configuration and optimization. If much of what you read in these forums makes no sense to you, look for another solution. Otherwise, the odds are high that you will be very pleased with Naked 6 ROM.

It sounds like you're already doing this, but just in case - Is this the first / only cab you're installing? If not, I'd suggest trying it that way first, before any other app.
If you are installing just the rom then the WAP cab (as it sounds you are), is there anything else that appears messed up - such as the battery icon missing? When it attempts to connect, do you get a connection symbol (G/E/H/3G with arrows)? If you use the Home plugin, after installing it does your weather data come in?
Another couple possibilities - try reseating the SIM card, or reflash your radio to 1.54.10. Far out there, but with some small chance.
Also - just to ask an obvious question - do other roms work? Sorry, gotta ask it :)

It's should be just a matter of grabbing the link from that ROM (or making a new one) and placing it in the /Windows/AppButtons. If you have a copy of the ROM, I can take a look at it.

Most likely it's because the phcanoverbmp.dll I used was a different version. If you have a different one, you can install it via a cab. Just copy it out of the rom you like, and use WinCE Cab Manager to build a cab for it.
I don't believe there are registry settings for this

to complete your rom to me needs i'd like to install a kaiser style dialer (doesn't matter if it is 3g or not) and a comm manager.
could you recommend a specific dialer and comm-mgr? there are so many different versions (schen, schaps, ...) out there.

The ATT rom works fine and so did schaps 4.22.
After I install the naked rom the first thing I install is the wap settings. it connects with either the E or G I cant remember and right now I have the att rom isntalled with their built in radio version. I did try using mobitv to test that net connection and that did not work either. I will reinstall the radio and rom and try the wap settings again and let you know. Weird since everything works fine on ATT's rom.
UPDATE: I just installed your naked ROM. I then install the cab file above for the wap settings. Connects with an E with arrows. IE sits there on locatin when trying to goto any web site. I also installed the radio version 1.54.30.10. Also there are no icons missing. I took out the sim card and put it back in before I install the cab.

Phantisy - The only thing I can think left you could do is to see if you have better luck with the non-3G version.
I'm really scratching for a cause here, because it's the only instince of this I know of, and it doesn't seem to follow any usual reasoning.
If you're still interested in trying, please give the other build a shot and let me know how it works for you. If not - I can definetly understand :)

hi matt,
thanks. i know this post very well. as this and many other posts are quite old posts it is hard to find the latest version with all the fixes included (if there exists any).
furthermore the post has no kaiser-dialer.
i have searched and tried a couple of dialers yet
- 2g touch dialer - does not support smartdialing and does not respond to the send-key in combination with your rom
- schen`s dialer - same problem with send-key and problem with "back-button"
- a few more where the design is not true kaiser-design
hopefully you have some recommendations on which dialer to use - or may i even ask you to create a "pandora naked kaiser-style rom"?
thanx

if you have sufficient space on your PC...
Install VirtualPC from MS (free download)
install XP into the virtual PC
make a copy of virtual drive
install your trial ware into the virtual PC
when the trial expires, delete the virtual drive and replace with a copy of the copy...

So after a couple of days pondering what we're (more like me) trying to do with this ROM, I've come to a conclusion:
1. Keep the base as is - I see zero benefit to "cooking in" a new comm manager and dialpad - since it only adds bloat that you can't remove later if you change your mind.
2. Provide cabs for touch style comm manager and dialpads for those who want it.
So in post 1, as well as here (http://rapidshare.com/files/82311274/Pandora_Touch_Cabs.zip.html) are the cabs that a number of people have requested - the 3G Touch Comm Manager from the kitchen, and a Touch Dialpad that doesn't overwrite your battery icon or have extra unnecessary registry settings.
I'll see about a Touch 3G dialpad in the near future :)

SetAccousticParameters must significantly increase the incoming call ring volume, because incoming call rings have been extremely loud and distorted. Loud rings could be great in noisy environments, but they are way too loud in my quiet office and I normally use a Bluetooth earphone that makes it easy to hear rings everywhere else. Without knowing the parameters changed by SetAccousticParameters, I experimentally changed the AttenuationCategory value below from 2 to 1 and the ring volume dropped to what seems to me to be normal.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Rin g]
"AttenuationCategory"=dword:2
The ring volume reduction survived a power-off/on restart, so the change apparently is not overwritten by SetAccousticParameters at startup.
I don’t know whether that is the best way to reduce incoming call ring volume, but so far I haven’t noticed any adverse side effects. Possibly mattk_r or someone else can shed light on the issue.

Correct - having the CellularDataIconOptions on anything other than 2 will stop the syncing animations - as setting it to 2 and adding a .bmp was how to enable it.
I didn't even notice the antanne vs the letter. I alway look to the data connection icon for the status - large while block/black letters when available but disconnected, and no block with small white letters when connected.
Is the rotating arrows worth it? Personal choice I suppose. Maybe updating the .bmp in the package will allow it to work?
Here's the package from the kitchen in case anyone wants to play :)

It's the overall speed of scrolling thru everything, files explorer and all.
This feature only seems present in schaps 4.01 versions.
It's kinda funny how nobody seems to mention it anywhere.
Again, I'm not talking about the speed of scrolling in PIE.
It's across the board in all apps.
Sure would like to find out what he did.
One more note:
When I first noticed it, I found it hard to get used to, I would literally pass things up

because it moved so much faster than all the roms i've used before.

This feature only seems present in schaps 4.01 versions.
It's kinda funny how nobody seems to mention it anywhere.
Again, I'm not talking about the speed of scrolling in PIE.
It's across the board in all apps.
Sure would like to find out what he did.
One more note:
When I first noticed it, I found it hard to get used to, I would literally pass things up
(scroll right past them) and then have to scroll back up.
because it moved so much faster than all the roms i've used before.
did you try to set delay=short and repeat rate=fast in settings->buttons->up/downcontrol?

hkcu\controlpanel\keybd\initdelay=250
hkcu\controlpanel\keybd\repeatrate=30
values are decimal.
these are the fastest possible settings.

Thank you! Here's the .rgu entry with hex values:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
"InitialDelay"=dword:000000fa
"RepeatRate"=dword:0000001e
I'll post an updated kitchen with these included :)

I'm having the same problem few users has and posted about earlier , phone freezing and hard resetting itself after a soft reset .. is it for sure the extrom ? I really love this ROM and hate to switch. how about the non big storage version, is it as fast as this one ?
Few other things i noticed :
- the "Power management" tweaks written in the wiki are not applied in this rom.
- I've noticed that Windows Live search WLMTodayScreen.dll is installed by default ( safe to remove ? )
thanks :D

The speed between the two should be identical - as the OS is exactly the same, with the exeption that 5.0 (which allows the use of the extended rom) also has the OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL.

If you find a tweak that really works well - please post it and I'll try and get it included on the next build. I have to admit I'm lagging a bit on keeping up with all the tweaks and tips out there.

If you're using the kitchen to compile our own, sure. If it's already flashed to the phone, you won't be able to. I'll check that out - it shouldn't have been left in the base.
thanks :D
Are you running 6.0, and if so, do you have a extended rom viewer such as total commander installed?
I have used the crap out of this rom, and after we identified that the Big Storage version cannot have the OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL present - it's been very solid - unless another app is installed that causes the issue.
If you are able to identify what app is causing it, we can certainly try to find out where the incompatibility is at.

Yes i'm running 6 .. Emm i can't identify what app is causing it, but i confirm that the crash happens with various apps setups .. i've been trying to identify the cause of this for the past 3 weeks now with various applications setups, last crash happened with the following installed :
- phone was connected to pc and synced
- Spb Mobile Shell
- Samsung time ( clock on today screen )
- Battery status
- foxit reader ( on storage card )
- office ( on storage card )
- Quick Menu ( task manager ) .. thought it might be the problem since it tries to acclaim memory after closing any app, but the crash occured with various task managers like htc's .
Question still why the phone makes a hard reset instead of a soft reset after crashing
For the windows live installed dll, i've attached an image of the running today-pluging after a fresh install .. along with the cab file for "today plugin uninstaller" that i found on the net - lost track of download links cuz of many cabs on my pc - :D
For the "Power management tweaks" in the wiki, i don't know if they work or not but i figured they're there for a reason :D

Power Management for Hermes - Increase Battery life
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:1
Change to
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:1
Change to
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:1
Change to
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:1
Change to
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0This will turn on power management for the above protocols. Logically, it should save us some power.
Also i found this handy when connecting to GPRS, there is no disconnect button ( from the wiki ) :
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone --> add new DWORD named Flags2 with a decimal value of 8 then soft reset , a "Disconnect" button will be added to the active GPRS connection
sorry if it's a long post but i thought maybe it will help for future versions
cheers

the only thing you need is your carrier WAP settings, which should be all over the forum. Everything else is done.

I didn't update the rom version, and haven't gotten back to update the build. It's exactly the same as 5, less only 1 dll.

Are you referring to the special characters you need to press the blue dot to get? If so, you need to update hkey_local_machine\software\oem\qwerty and edit the layout value to hex:20409 (int) or hex:40409 (US).

I already tested this version, is quite stable and fast.
Neither seemed a Hermes, which was so fast.
