I guess there is any mechanism to notify applications on system reboots (e.g. by pressing restart) and system shut-offs (holding suspend button for a few seconds and confirming then the shut-down dialog) in order to enable them to normally terminate.
How does it work? And how are those notifications broadcast to the apps?
