Is there a trick to get the new My Location feature in google maps to work?

Bummed to see that the Cingular 3125 shows "n/a" under "myl" in Help->About and can't show locations.

Has anyone been successful with this app on any of the other ROMs, or better yet, on the Cingular ROM? (This is the latest shipped version.)
