Hard-SPL or How to have something the rest of XDA-Devs runs

OK folks, Hard-SPL is finally released, my apologies for the delay, but I had a few teething troubles with my own device... well, actually I broke the sec area then had loads of fun fixing it.

anyway... this is Hard-SPL, when you load it and the SPL runs, it'll display the 3 colours then ask you to REPLUG your usb cable, please unplug and re-plug and wait a good few seconds and this will disappear.

within seconds the device will then become upgraded to Hard-SPL.

once that's done, enjoy, you're unlocked.

also please note this Hard-SPL is based on an MFG, for those of you who intend to play.

dont worry once i have my device ill get the ball rolling with the custom rom department. oli is at the moment working on the replugging cable problem. if he wouldnt fix it at a certain point u would have to unplug and replug usb.

we are fixing this to make the hardspl and unlocker more noob friendly and less risks of bricks. last i heard oli just needed to test the new methods and package them up nicely for everyone. ill be pushing with cmonex for a weekend release.

I think I have the same problem.
The colour screen comes up quickly followed by the white screen with blue Loading...
The error screen comes up saying make sure that usb is connected as if connection has been lost with PC.

I based that on the conclusion my device is still working...but you have a point yes: in that way I cannot say it worked.

update 1:
checking the bootloader it states this:
POLA100 MFG
SPL-2.20.Olipro
CPLD-2

Although it seems to be unlocked, I still get message from pdocread -l that it maybe still is application locked (and thus cannot read the rom)

update 2:
Using Hard-SPLv2, I only get the ROM version in Device Information whereas with Hard-SPLv1 I get all information as normal.

Hi all, I got my new Cruise yesterday in Holland where I work (I'm a Brit).
I can't read Dutch and now badly need to flash to an Englosh ROM.
Wher can I find a standard WWE ROM??
Been looking for hours but cannot find one. Would a Touch Dual ROM work? If so as the phone is unlocked as standard do I still need to Hard SPL?

Please reply with some advice as I cant use the phone with all these Dutch words..........

Have you closed/disabled all running firewall and/or virus tasks?
Close as many running apps on PC as possible before flashing HardSPL
to prevent communication problems.

yeah i lowered the shields but still the update process starts, activesync is closed but nothing happens 0% stays until the error pops up Error [260] connection. The colored screen shows USB as connection type.
How do you update from microsd? Read that was possible?

EDIT I made it, just left the orbit2 on the colorscreen and started the process again, worked fine then. Thanks for helping Olio , as ususal ;)

I doubt U can update from microSD, but try to extract HARDSPL to folder directly to root( ie all files will be in C:\HardSPL) and run it from there - i know that some people had troubles -nothing happened or error- when running POF's Artemis USPL from c:\ Docs & Sett\User\Desktop........

So, to sum up, the files to use are:


1) RUUupdateUtility.exe --> for Hard Spl
2) RUU_Signed.nbh + ROMUpdateUtility.exe --> to flash ROM

RUUupdateUtil=RomUpdateUtility what part of Device U flash depends on xxxx.nbh (its default format consists from IPL+SPL+ROM+RADIO+bootsplash+ExtROM - maybe smth else- so what u flash its up to ROMBuilder if he puts in nbf ROM+Radio+bootsplah or only ROM, or only SPL..... or combination)

PS: not all of above parts belong to Polaris - ie we dont have ExtRom, for Wizard there is some G4 and G3 part (2 different kinds of wizard)...

Those files are needed by ROMUpdateUtility to run the upgrade of your ROM. You don't need to do anything on those files (Unless you know what you're doing). You only have to double click on the ROMUpdateUtility.exe.

Well, I finally decided to purchase the device from Clove UK (turned up today). Since I want a much cleaner ROM than HTC provides, I needed Olipro's HardSPL. I've donated now.

Reyjab's list quoted above should really start with "Won't work with Windows 2k Pro, must use XP or Vista). This point is not in Wiki and I'd asked twice before here with no answer. OK ... (please spare any comments about Dark Ages O/S versions etc, Microsoft's "upgrades" are much more marketing glitz than substance)

Point 6: the file in Olipro's ZIP is called ROMUpdateUtility.exe (not RUU...exe). This may also confuse inexperienced people.

While I'm waiting for a clean WWE ROM, I'm playing with the GPS. QuickGPS works OK and tells me I have 6 days 23 hours of valid ephemeris data after download.

But - does anyone *know* the actual hardware port for the GPS ? Start>Settings>External GPS>Hardware - you can choose any of COM0-9, but none of them stay registered (yes, the Program Port is on COM4 and Access is checked Automatic).

All of the GPS programs I have spot-tested will turn on the GPS (at least the amber light blinks obligingly and the programs register connection) but so far the GPS has not located itself; 20 minutes is long enough to know this. BTW, it doesn't matter which GPS program, unless you think that the device is limited only to SatNavs like TomTom. All of these programs work on both my X500 and my P3600i, although this has an pretty ordinary TTFF.

ADDENDUM: Went to the "donate" page for USD$20, but it is run through PayPal, which I won't touch with a very, very long barge pole (just type PayPal + complaints into a search engine and reel back in horror). Any other way of donating ?

Well, I finally decided to purchase the device from Clove UK (turned up today). Since I want a much cleaner ROM than HTC provides, I needed Olipro's HardSPL. I've donated now.

Reyjab's list quoted above should really start with "Won't work with Windows 2k Pro, must use XP or Vista). This point is not in Wiki and I'd asked twice before here with no answer. OK ... (please spare any comments about Dark Ages O/S versions etc, Microsoft's "upgrades" are much more marketing glitz than substance)

Point 6: the file in Olipro's ZIP is called ROMUpdateUtility.exe (not RUU...exe). This may also confuse inexperienced people.

While I'm waiting for a clean WWE ROM, I'm playing with the GPS. QuickGPS works OK and tells me I have 6 days 23 hours of valid ephemeris data after download.

But - does anyone *know* the actual hardware port for the GPS ? Start>Settings>External GPS>Hardware - you can choose any of COM0-9, but none of them stay registered (yes, the Program Port is on COM4 and Access is checked Automatic).

All of the GPS programs I have spot-tested will turn on the GPS (at least the amber light blinks obligingly and the programs register connection) but so far the GPS has not located itself; 20 minutes is long enough to know this. BTW, it doesn't matter which GPS program, unless you think that the device is limited only to SatNavs like TomTom. All of these programs work on both my X500 and my P3600i, although this has an pretty ordinary TTFF.

at this time no other way. donating though is probable the safest part of ebay though. just give ur cc number and thats it and itll take care of the rest. i have had numerous donations now(as u can see in the project thread) with 0 complaints or problems :)

I have Google Maps, TomTom, TurboGPS and all working fine. The first 2 were configured automatically and for TGPS I just chose COM4 and that was that.

Also I'll continue to play with the GPS while waiting for clean ROM's, but at this early point I'm not yet impressed with it.

Both the P3650 and P3600i claim 256Mb Storage:

on soft reset, the P3600i reports 179Mb available (standard WWE HTC ROM)

on soft reset, the P3650 reports 110.5 Mb available (standard WWE HTC ROM)

I find this direct comparison most unflattering to the P3650

Not all devices share the exact same hex numbers in the end like 0x7620000.

You get yours by running:
C:>pdocread.exe -l

then adopt the hex number in your lines above to match what you got listed.

Note: you can check the (part numbers) vs (hex numbers) to make sure by:
C:>pdocread -w -d FLASHDR -b 0x800 -p Partxx -t

Hello you can also follow this steps:

1) unplug the USB Cabel yet!
2) hold Camera button down and softreset at the same time with the stilo the device.
3) hold the Camera button until you have the 3 colors on your device screen! On the bottom you see now serial!

4) plug the USB Cable yet and wait until your pc reconnects the usb device! On the bottom of the 3 color screen serial changes to USB!

5) Lounch the upgrade application on your PC until the Grey screen has 100% and the device reboots itselve (black screen)

6) when you redo the step 2 you can now see at the top of the 3 color device screen the following 3 lines in yello

POLA100 MFG
SPL-2.20.OliNex
CPLD-2

After this have Fun!

I just got a Polaris, but it's in Norwegian, so I want to flash an English ROM on it. At the same time, I don't wanna risk bricking the unit, I've never flashed devices before, so I want to read all the instructions I can before I even start trying.

I could not find a step-by-step post explaining how to proceed, starting from Hard-SPL and then moving to the ROM, does such tutorial exist somewhere in the forums?

Another question: when I open the HARD-SPL exe it asks me to confirm that I've read the readme file, which I'd love to, but no such file exists in the zip :confused:

Just a real quick question which alot of you guys in here should be able to answer me:
If I dump my German Orbit 2 ROM and use the HTC 1.25.405.1 WWE to compile a backup RRU, will my device - if I decide to flash my compilation back - look like factory default? Or will the HardSPL remain in every case and they'll deny warranty or, even worse, won't it look at all like a default Orbit 2 (since I took a HTC ROM as template and not an O2 ROM) and they'll tell me to fu** off?

Can it be that to this hardspl I cannot hear the other side speaking on the internal (normal) speaker with outgoing and incomming calls? I can only hear them on external speaker when I switch to that. Flashing hardspl several times, flashed original wwe several times as well as the various wm6.1 versions. With the original Dutch version (of which I dont have a backup...dammit) I didnt had that problem. I guess mine is broken?

Extract the archive and start ROMUpdateUtility.exe
The rest is following instructions given in the program on the PC and on the screen of the device.

I'd describe it like that: there is a part on your device, which disallows you to flash whatever you like to it. Olipro treated that piece of software with medicine, so once you apply it to your device it is healed and swallows whatever you feed it with.

The difference between your link and this package is basically just the content of the imagefile: there is is the whole operating system where here it is just the SPL.
Of course it's more than just that, the whole inside of the installer was altered. But that doesnt show to you, so bottom line: yes, it's the same-ish.

how it works... you patch the SPL binary to skip the NBH & CID etc checks and to load as an SSPL in ram, then jump to it using jumpspl code that is borrowed from haret mainly then that SSPL flashes another SPL binary that is intended to be HardSPL.

heh, and programming a full bootloader from scratch without all the information available about the device and with the full understanding of how hardware works is very difficult ...

anyway the above is the basic idea. basically abusing the SPL code to access the flash to flash it and also the fact the OS isn't running during this is an advantage.

Aside from the usual warning about bricking your device, your data/apps would stay as they are. Unless you flash a new ROM which is what the Hard-SPL is for anyway.

Hard-spl not unlocks CID, it ignores CID check during flash.

last night I have installed first Hard spl V2 and you/he/she has gone everything ok.

then I have installed the new rom of Bepe the 0.58, also here everything well.

Then in forenoon, since I had put on some softwares and then removed on the new rom,

I have decided to format:

this way I have done first the procedure of bootloader with key camera and pennino, then

I have disabled usb,

then I have made the procedure with MTTY as I made it as times with the P3600,

and all of this, ended later once, it is not more restarted, it goes from there to bootloader.

Go to the bootloader screen (3 colored screen) and flash a ROM of your choice onto your device. If you need Italian, there is the original HTC ROM on the FTP and of course bepes italian ROM.

I'm also getting the Error 260 - Connection dialog. I've tried this on both a Vista and XP machine. I've enabled and disabled USB to PC Advanced Network Functionality on the Polaris. I took out the Micro SD card. I have a good USB connection. Firewall off, AV off, nothing else running other than usual processes. I've read through this entire thread. I'm not sure what else to try. :confused: Any ideas would be appreciated.

You have the XDA Orbit 2 unlocked to accept other ROMs. Did you load a Polaris 0100 ROM or the Polaris 0200 ROM?

I'm also curious as to how well it works on o2 now (I just bought one).

Are you able to definitively eliminate the usb cable you are using? I saw that recently and it really hurt the Unix Guru that asked me to help him when it turned out the cable was at fault.

If you're in XP you could do with seeing if you can turn on showhiddendevices

u dont have to hardspl everytime you do a new flash. u only do it once. or am i missing something?

probably. theres not too many differences between the different hardspl versions. might be he just took a newer spl and made it a hardspl. dont worry to much. he will release it if its required.

Of course it's not going to work. It's only for HTC Touch Cruise/O2 Orbit 2 aka Polaris. You're in the wrong forum mate. Check the Tytn forum.;)

when you have the problem that you are expiriencing I would try 2 things.

the first is to change the cable (I know sounds dumb but I had the same problem and it was fixed by that).
the second is to uninstall (compleatly - with your uninstaller or other removal program) the active sync and reinstall, on another forum it was written that because of a missing driver (dll file) that problem is happening.

yes simple. just download cruise original ROM & then do update. i,m sure it will work.

No that was not the solution but FIXED! :D at last the problem was I used a SPL for HTC ELF not Polaris and, I don´t know why, that makes OS stopped in an eternal bug... Whem I use again the same Hard SPL for Elf Voilá! Do it!:p And know all works fine. I promisse: I will never change the BootSplash be sure:rolleyes: Thank You and all people try to help me....

Already installed Hard-SPL from the first post it's v2.2 I believe. Thats how I was able to try different ROMs(ASerg, bepe,...etc). But I always get an error if I try to flash a Radio only wither it's 1.64.08.21 or any of the other ones.

anyway... this is Hard-SPL, when you load it and the SPL runs, it'll display the 3 colours then ask you to REPLUG your usb cable, please unplug and re-plug and wait a good few seconds and this will disappear.

within seconds the device will then become upgraded to Hard-SPL.

I have tried to install on both VISTA and XP SP2 PRO, in vain. (Hard-SPL_V7)
Am I stupid?
This is what I have done:

USB direct to PC (No Hubb)
anti-virus and fire-wall disabled.
Sync already through
Touch Cruise @ 100% full
tried it switched on and off (in both cases PDA connected of course to the PC)

It starts, then when PDA reboots, (with the b..... SFR red logo) I get ERROR 260 Update error.

My bootloader stays on:
POLA100
SPL - 1.25.0000
CPLD-2

What have I done wrong?????????

When i try any of roms it just stuck on 0% and after that comes error - comunication error or similar. I read all 20++ pages and it seams to me that only solution is to flash it with original ROM. It has been bought in Germany. not from any provider...

You haven't flashed HardSPL successfuly, because you have yet SPL v1.25 known as original version.
Hardspl is 2.20.

reception difficulties, I had to resort to Murata radio for the device to work again, the older version never had a problem with, using version 2 to upgrade the radio crippled the reception. something is wrong. I never had to put the device in bootloader mode for me to flash the radio. ever since version 2 I have to, otherwise it gets stuck on loading... something is wrong.

Hi,

I am having problem getting to the bootloader screen now.

1. Flashed Hard-SPL successfully and loaded uDK ROM sucessfully.
2. Started having problem getting to the bootloader screen after Hard reset.
3. Reload Hard-SPL and got into bootloader screen OK again and successfully installed 1 Radio ROM.
4. Now, I can not get into the bootloader again after hard reset. I can see the tricolor screen showing Hard-SPL is loaded but it won't remain at the bootloader screen. Instead, it preceeded to boot to uDK ROM. If I keep pressing and hold down the Camera and Reset button, the tricolor screen just keep on flashing. Once I release the Camera and Reset button, it proceeds to boot up uDK ROM.

I spent the last hour searching for answers, but couldn't find anything to help me get to the bootloader screen so I can flash a Radio ROM.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

i really don't remember what i did to fix it, but you can try to let it boot into wm
and try again
or remove the battery, or powerdown and boot directly into bootsceen.
