So I was using WMP on my Tilt and noticed that when I started listening to music my free program memory tanked to less then 5% free. I've tested this many times now and it does it everytime. After a few minutes, the free memory will increase slightly.
Can anybody else try this and confirm for me if this is an issue across all Tilts?
To test, record your free program memory before openign WMP. Then open WMP, play a song, then check the free program memory. If it's kiek mine, you will see that shoot up from around 35-40% up to +90% load.

Well I did find this shortly after posting, so it appears to be an issue will all Tilts (or WM6 devices in general). Sory for the Google Cached page, the real site wouldn't come up for some reason.

This is a problem with WMP - not your Kaiser. If you try another player such as CorePlayer, you'll notice it uses far less RAM. Once again - shame on Microsoft for shipping a buggy and inferior product. I actually like WMP and I hate having multiple anything on my phone (media players, browsers, etc) but Microsoft needs to do better internally if they want to compete with devices like the iPhone long-term.

WMP uses a buffer (FIFO) for playing, the only available storage it has is internal memory.. This is a portable device so the developers of CE kernal thought that if you are watching a video on it that you would not REALLY be doing anything else!
Ergo..what mem is not in use, can be auto associated for buffer.
Hope this gives you an idea of Win CE kernal (base of all WM code). :)

Core does everything so right, it makes you wonder how wmp mobile can be so wrong. Sux since I agree about the anti-mulitple apps comment...

I agree, it's all to do with back compatability of prior CE WM applications and poor MS upgrades to the kernal!!!
I seriously think MS are just giving us basic apps to fulfill standard tasks, hoping that 3rd party people will improve it!
And YES, it's happening, look at Coreplayer!...:)

i agree with you all. I wish I could use the default apps, but they suck. I understand MS only giving the user the bare bones stuff but com'on, at least make it work without eating up every ounce of memory.
Anyways, sorry for the MS flame but this issue and many others have been the same thru 3 versions of windows mobile. when will they actually take the time to re-write this stuff. Quit adding new functions, fix the old broken ones. There I go again flaming MS. I've been in the IT biz for nearly 20 years, and using MS products the whole time. By now I should be over the 'MS sucks" stuff.. :)

NO, I fully agree with you. If MS gave us JUST a WM player that was broad aspect on file playability AND an IE that could link to most AV content around on the web at the moment, EVERYONE would be more than happy.
Trouble is, MS HOPED that every web site would make a duplicate mobile one....WON"T HAPPEN!!
Microsoft, get your act together and give us some GOOD surfing software...PLEASE!!!
