the only IM program I use is aim. I've read the comparison chart and a few threads I found searching but I haven't really seen one that comments directly on the aim functionality of the programs.

what client do you all like best for aim?

thanks

Agile Messenger all the way. Has softkey support for WM5/6 which IM+ does not. Plus IM+ doesnt auto-reconnect if you drop cellular signal. Agile does.

I use MunduIM. It's cheap, has a decent interface, and works well.

auto reconnect seems like a must have feature if you want people to be able to communicate to you on aim reliably.

i was looking for an IM program that works with sms so i downloaded mobile IM (oz communcations) via medianet and it works ok, i dunno why but windows mobile makes everything seem complicated. i had the same prog on my old sony ericsson w810 and it seemed to work a lot smoother

I've noticed a majot trend- seems like almost everyone here wants something that used data instead of SMS for IM. I'm quite the opposite, and am looking for a client that works like the original OEM, that uses SMS. I actually don't have a data plan, and even if I did, I have unlimited IM through SMS and would rather use that than a data connection.

I've found CABs of the Oz client used on both AT&T and T-Mobile, and I've installed both, but both give me the same strange error when I run it.

ExceptionCode: 0x80000002
ExceptionAddress: 0x00df8328
OK to terminate
CANCEL to debug

Any ideas or hints on this one? Any good IM clients out there for WM6 that would use SMS, or at least give you the option to use SMS?

slick is definitely the best.. its so fast to when i send messages it actually is instant unlike other programs. plus it free and supports a wide variety of protocols.

Without question, agile is just as "instant" as slick and FAR better looking than slick (which looks like it was directly ported from a series 60 device and doesnt even utilize the windows mobile interface.) Have you even tried it?

Go figure it's having problems...the proxy used by this program is currently offline, but it is a temporary problem. Expect it to be resolved soon. It is NOT the program, but the web proxy. Please be patient and it'll work soon.

i have used agile before and i admit the slick interface isn't as nice as agile, but its not unbearable. i actually kind of like the simplistic streamlined look though. plus slick has features such as file transfers, offline ims, messages history, and a lot more configuration options.

also doesn't agile require you to purchase a key after a certain amount of uses?

All of these Features you Mentioned Agile Has, all except maybe the Offline Messages but i'm sure they have it by now. AIm Just adopted that feature from Yahoo so it's all A matter of Preference when it comes to IM CLients ....For Instance I've Tried Agile and IM+...IM+ always froze on my phone, no reconnect and the List goes on. Agile was much more stable for me. Other members its the complete oppisite. Try them all and which ever works for you ...GO FOR IT !

The OZ program, offered free on ATT MEdiaNet, charges you for a text-message with each incoming/outgoing message, sign-on/off, options setting, etc.

I'd avoid any programs using SMS or by OZ.

ok But IM+ and Agile are messengers that works over your Internet not through SMS.... Usually the samrt thing to do is if you don;t really use the internet, Only have Unlimited Txts and then OZ messenger Would be great for you =)

if you decide to get Agile messenger, their company is criminal they offer no level of customer support. I used it for work, good product, I had the 3 mths reoccurring charge because I only needed for a short amount of time.

I emailed them to cancel the charge and I got no reply, I got charge again, tried to contact them to get a refund still nothing. I had to contact 2co the billing company to have this charge stopped.

This company is criminal and would advise no one to trust them, they are based in Thailand and the service is none existent. They are very happy to take your money but any queries after that don't expect to get an answer.

I'd run with slick all the way.
have tried a few since my msn stopped working.
IM+ crashed my device
agile is rubbish
mundu and fring require another account to be created to be used.
slick is quick, runs when my screen is off. had no problems what so ever

IM+ works well for me, with pop-up notifications whenever patches or updates are available.

OZ was a big nuisance that sent a garbled unnecessary text-message with each IM, sign-on, etc.

Palringo (http://palringo.com) is another option that is free, does not generate usage costs, accesses all major IM clients, allows the user to set up identities with multiple addresses, but does not have an invisible mode.

is there anyway on agile or slick to show that we are using a mobile device on peoples like buddylists. i know when people that are on from their side kicks aim shows them as mobile, but whenever i sign on from agile or slick it shows me as a regular desktop user.

OK!..

I've struggled with IM programs. First was agile messenger --- it was free so it was good, then they wanted 39 dollars, not for me.

Then i stumbled across Mundu IM, it's nice, but still a bit buggy paid 11 bucks for lifetime membership. :)

But now i use Palringo. For it's purposes it's an excellent IM messenger for all platforms. and guess what it's free ware.:D

Well that's about it.

Google it. u'll get the site.

^^^

I'm using it on my 8525 with success and my buddy who recommended it to me also has it on his BlackJackII and it works quite well in both scenarios.

I cannot speak for Agile but I'd assume it is the same as Slick. You cannot do this as the 'mobile' indication comes from the concept that your data is relaying off of an AOL communication server with SMS messaging. Since Agile and Slick use your data connection you appear no different than any other computer using the internet would. My question is, why would you care if they know you are on a phone or not... I'd care if I used SMS only because it would be an indicator to not send useless or silly messages since there is a charge for each message. (Of course assuming you didn't have a text messaging plan, which I do not)

Im+ is ok for aim only, and agile messenger can be a bitch to connect to as it doesn't play nice with media net. Check out Fring. Not only does it connect to aim, but also with skype, google talk, yahoo, msn, and can make free phone calls with an sip account! best mobile IM i've used Bar None.

Why not just use Windows Live Messenger? What do you people see as the disadvantages in using it?
It seems to do everything and it comes with the OS, costs nothing and as far as i know doesnt depend on anyones proxy (correct me if im wrong)

Very happy with mig33, the messages come in smoothly, not all choppy like im+ and fring and its free, granted it is java based and not super touch screeny, but the interface is nice. once u get used to it, ive found it to be the best.
