Hi all,
I just picked up my Touch Cruise from ezshop.gr – the online shop of ACE-Hellas – distributor of HTC in Greece.
Yes Cruise is available in limited quantities as they say and you can see the photos as proof.
It seems that Cruise belongs to Greece as ACE-Hellas announced it in public 3 days before HTC officially announced it to the press, in the local DTE exhibition show.
Now

Nice, can you provide details on what's in the box? MobilePlant/Expansys doesn't say.

If I look correctly, is the screen black?
There have been a lot of doubts about the screen, if they only have a "silver" version or also the "black" version:
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/3395/imagegv8.jpg <-- the black version
http://www.pocketinfo.nl/contentimages/htcCruise_frontLeft_hi_2.jpg <-- the silver version
Is this really a difference, or is it just the light?
And how does the screen reflect? Is it too much?

Awesome. They make quite a pair. Both sharp looking devices. Looks like you might be able to tell us if accessories are compatible too. :)
One HUGE question I think everyone is wanting feedback on is video playback. Since you have an Artemis, this should also be a good comparison. Do you use the Artemis for Vids? If so, what codecs and rates do you use, and does the Polaris do a better or worse job with the same file encoding(s). I think there is a suspician that the Polaris will be similar to the Kaiser (since it uses the same chipset) and the video playback will be poor.

This will likely be a make or break issue for me, so any advice would be very welcome.

Sweet! Specifics on file encodings would be very helpful and enlightening.
Apparently the issue also affects game play. Not much for games on myself, but I know many others are very interested.
Awesome! I love the black colour that ya got. I wonder if they come in white as well.
Do let us know if you happen to try out stereo BT, and to see whether the music skips while playing high quality stereo. Most PPCs sucked in that...
Thanks!

Very nice! Could you by any chance show the use of the improved HTC touch keyboard? That would be great!
Thanks for the video dude!
Now that ya got both the Artemis and Polaris, do you feel that there's significant improvement in speed?
Where can I view more spb benchmarks?
Also, I feel that the Polaris speaker is smaller than the Artemis. How would you compare the sound levels?
Thanks!

So this is saying the video is equivalent to the Kaiser.. meaning, leaves a lot to be desired? I am not sure how the benchmarks could be the same but the video playback could be much better.
For instance, using TCMPM I have an mp4 encoded at 320x240, 30fps and 300kbps and it will not play on my Kaiser. I get one frame of video every few seconds. I have also tried some equivalent AVI file encodings, and while the results are much better, it is still pretty jumpy and blurry.

Hello Minotavrs, I have a quick question or two:
Does it ship with a screen protector? I'm curious to know how that would work since the screen is flush to the device.
If not, how well does the screen handle scratches and smudges?
Does anyone know if the original Touch or Dual are screen-protector "friendly" (ie: do the flush-screens impede the use of a screen protector)?

Does that fit over the whole top section of the machine, or just over the screen area?
Seems like it would peel off in use, but I guess time will tell...

That's my main concern, that it will peel off or at the very least move around with frequent use (eg: gaming or graphic creation).
Thanks for the wealth of information Minotavrs.

Thanks for all this great info. I have an HTC 3300 at the moment (well, the O2 re-branded O2 XDA Orbit) and will almost certainly upgrade to the native HTC Touch Cruise (I use T-Mobile not O2 as my UK network provider) but I have a few questions.
1) Looking at the pictures here I don't see an obvious button 6 which I have on the top left side of my O2 XDA Orbit (the voice-dial/memo-record button by default). Did I just miss it on the photos or is that button not on the Touch Cruise?
2) Buttons again. I keep my device in my pocket and one problem I have with my O2 XDA Orbit is that the power-on button is very sensitive and easy to press so it sometimes gets switched on in my pocket when I'm sitting down. I did plan to stick a couple of pieces of thin foam rubber above and below the power button to recess it slightly and prevent this but if I'm weeks away from UK availability of the Touch Cruise then I probably won't bother. My question of course is, is the power button on the Touch Cruise as easy to accidentally press when in a pocket? Is it any more recessed than on the HTC 3300/O2 Orbit and/or is it any firmer to the touch (for instance on my O2 XDA Orbit the camera button is far, far harder to press than the power button)?
3) Finally (for now), performance. Thanks for the great benchmarks but the key data point for me is how much faster is this likely to be in day-to-day operation than my O2 XDA Orbit and this (or the HTC 3300) aren't devices that are compared against on the benchmark slides in this thread. Are there any benchmarks of the Touch Cruise vs the HTC 3300 or, if not, then of the other devices shown on the benchmarks slides in this thread, which one is the closest to the current performance of my O2 XDA Orbit? What sort of speedup might I expect? I don't play videos so I'm more concerned to get some idea of application startup times so if, for instance, I launch a particular app and get the wait cursor for 5 seconds while it starts up, what sort of wait is that likely to translate into on the Touch Cruise?
- Julian

Unless earlier news from HTC prevents it, my one should arrive Wednesday. I bought it at http://www.sergevandermaesen.be/, low prices and VERY good service. Only for Belgian (well, actually Flemish) customers.
