A sales guy at 02 told me that they would be releasing the Polaris on the 3rd Jan, 2008 in the UK for the new year with new tariffs, can someone confirm this? I can't mind it being mentioned any where on any site.

It is listed in the Coming Soon (http://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon) section as Orbit 2. Don't trust the picture though since it's more likely will look like this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353501).

Yeah so it looks like it will be coming out on the third of Jan, thanks.

The more realistic date for release in UK will be end Jan or early Feb.

Cheers

It's in their latest brochure now....
I was told it would available around mid Jan.
No TomTom however - just CoPilot and thats only on certain tariffs

I'm on an O2 Corporate tariff through my employer. According to the "Coming Soon" spreadsheet they send us the Orbit 2 will be available W/C 21st Jan.

I see this one is all black nice. I would've considered O2 but they don't have good data plans.

o2 data plan is now 7.50 for unlimited (200MB) - since november.
this is a lot better than the 15 quid for 36MB that i have been paying!

Expansys are offering the TC on O2 contracts ! :)
If you don't want the Orbit 2, this seems a good alternative !

Looks like o2 are pricing the Orbit 2 quite high compared to v1 ??

I think the Orbit 2 looks better than the Cruise which I was after but I ideally wanted it on TMobile as webnwalk is less restrictive.
Anyone know how good O2's data plan is? Or are Tmobile taking on this device anytime soon?
thanks

thanks - am I right in thinking that you cannot use it as a modem or use messaging/streaming etc on O2? TMobile have a webnwalk plus but Im not sure how much I will use these features.... hmmm decisions.

I use my XDA Orbit (Artimis) as a modem when I'm on the train, much better than IE on the phone

Now that looks sweet!

I've been following the Touch Cruise threads for a while waiting for a release on a UK network, and the O2 Orbit 2 looks the bees knees. Only problem is I'm on Orange with an unlimited data plan, 1000 minutes, 300 texts, insurance and free answerphone, all for around £50 per month and fear O2 won't be able to match this.

I'd swap to O2 for this phone if the 3G coverage is as good as Orange. What can I expect from O2's 3G service?

I was informed it would be 21stor 23rd Jan. (according to a internal excel doc that was leaked)

But while I really like the look O2 XDA Orbit 2, compared with the normal Touch Cruise, the O2 network for 3G just isn't as good as what T-mobile offer, who are also cheaper for data.

Anyone know how I can combine T-mobile with the Orbit 2, without paying way over the odds?

Depends where you live I guess.

I have a full 3G and HSDPA (3.5G) signal all over my home town of Norwich on O2 yet I have a Tmobile phone from work which always has a naff signal.

With O2's latest £7.50 unlimited data bolt-on it's a bargain.

Yeah the ball is trully in their court. I threatend to leave T-mobile for the iPhone and they offered me a really good deal (700 Free minutes, 1000 text, unlimited data for £25). 02, I was with them before and they didn't put up a fight to keep me even though my bill was like £300+ every month. I hate 02.

Valid point, I checked my area and there doesn't seem to be any HSDPA in my area with O2 :-(, but there is normal 3G i think

Where can I find more about the £7.50 bolt-on? Is it really unlimited? Are there any restrictions on usage say video streaming/voip etc?

thanks

Try this: http://www.o2.co.uk/mobilestariffs/tariffs/consumerdatabolton

There are restrictions and I think that VOIP is not permitted.

hmm 200MB per month. Wouldn't be too bad if you could use it on anything, decision decisions....

Hate the fact they say it's unlimited yet it's actually limited, lol, how do they get away with it

And here is O2's definition of 'fair' usage: http://www.o2.co.uk/termsconditions/tariffsandboltons0153

Click on the plus sign next to "Pay Monthly Bolt Ons terms & conditions" for details.
As you say Hinz, there is a lot here that is considered outside of fair usage.

I just arrived to London and do not know which mobile operator really provides HSDPA with no restrictions..

I may choose any operator I want, but I would llike to speak via VOIP. Is it possible here?

Thanks!!!

Buy a sim free HTC from any resellers and then get a 3 sim pack and just buy an X-series Gold add-on(£10) on top of your top-up and you get the best unlimited deal in town.:D

Is it me, or has the 'coming soon' link disappeared from the O2 website? I thought it used to be in the sidebar, but I can't find it anywhere (this could well be operator error tho !)

The coming soon URL as linked in previous posts is still live, and still shows the Orbit 2 as January release. Here's hoping that o2 aren't going to 'do an expansys' and push it back...

Hello all.

Looking forward to this phone VERY much... but does anyone know what price it will be in comparison to the N95 8GB?

I'd previously phoned O2 for a PAC as I'd decided on the N95 8GB and O2 didn't have it. They offered me the handset (when it arrived) and Online 35 and the Web Bolt-on for £32.50 a month (listed as £42.50 all-in on the website) and the handset for free (listed at £150 on that tariff). Pretty good deal I thought but I notice that the Orbit 2 is 200 Euro cheaper then the N95 8GB at O2 Germany and wondering what deal you think I can strike with them. 200 Euro is about £150, so £8ish a month over 18 months... I'm thinking they won't be able to take £8 off the £32.50 - what do you reckon, what do you think I can wheedle out of them!? ;)

Cheers.

reyjabs,

What about this - (from X-Series Terms and fair use policy)
To use X-Series Silver or Gold, you need to buy an X-Series mobile, sign up to a Pay Monthly price plan, and buy X-Series Silver or Gold - all from 3. You can only use our X-Series Silver and Gold services on X-Series Silver and Gold mobiles.

Thank you!

Anyway I think, that the problem with delays is because English people are not as stupid as americans, and not many people bought iPhone yet, so they're intetionally delaying all devices with same or better hardware and capabilities.

Finnaly, got my TC today. Bought from devicewire thenshipped with UPS to the desert here. Very nice device and huge improvement to Proohet. Fast, so far stable and Opera and Internet with 3.5 G are much faster than my DSL here. Google maps with GPS works also nicely. So far I am happy with my (Expensive 395 GBP) by.

tomres
27-01-2008, 10:31 PM
You could pre-order from expansys, as they have bundles for the TC with vodafone and O2. I'll probably wait to get it from O2 or Carphone. At the moment I'm due for upgrade from CPW, but if the upgrade offer is not good, I'll try O2 themselves. Apparently you can migrate between these two,;) as they are different providers.
