I know that this has been discussed here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=13771&highlight=minimize

but the instructions on how to specifically use an up -->down motion (in order to minimize a currently open program) are either beyond me, not clear enough, or not there at all. Has anyone been able to get this function to work, and if so can you post instructions. Also, as mentioned in the above thread can we get a side-to-side motion the switch between open programs?

I read the thread. Like you said, instructions were missing :)

I have a modded cube and lots of hacks on my Touch.

So, one option that works for me at the moment - is a two step process.

1) press red button to return to Home screen.
2) press task list drop down in top right corner and choose running program to switch to.

It's fast, easy, working and doesn't require any potential confilcts with TouchFlo.

I think the minimize.exe app they refer to is used in conjunction with the ftouchflo application - not the standard touchflo. You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338143
