Nike SSPL, USPL and HardSPL

The attached SSPL, USPL and HardSPL are based on the Nike shipped SPL v1.16
EDIT: HardSPL v.1.15 (MFG - manufacturing) with rtask support now added. I highly recommend to install this version !!!

1. download the attached files
2. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
3. connect usb cable
4. copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it (usb cable must be connected!)
5. after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display
6. unplug and replug the usb cable
(OPTIONAL, better to skip it! step 7. if you only want to test the sspl try flashing the attached splash screen by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-splash-niki)
8. you can now flash the hardspl-1.15mfg-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki
9. after installing the hardspl you can flash any rom (rom cook project here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355397))

Note:
The USPL is not a "HardSPL" which means it gets overwritten when you flash a full ROM. You have to run the SSPL if you want to flash any ROM again.
The HardSPL is never overwritten which in case of flashing trouble is a great insurance. Should you want to flash another SPL or USPL you must run the SSPL.

i would watch this spl guys. the previous didnt work. olipro and cmonex before the holidays tried to make a hardspl and have problems and couldnt get it done with midget bc of usb problems. might of been his device though so i could be wrong but just a wise word of warning to all.

Hi Jockyw2001, as per your instructions i did the following:

- REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
- connect usb cable
- copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it
- after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display - OK
- unplug and replug the usb cable - OK
- I flashed the attached test splash screen by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-splash-niki - OK but did notice my device went to full hard reset back to factory settings is this normal? had to do a system restore via Sprite Backup!

THE NEXT TWO STEPS IS WHERE I GET ERROR 262!!!
- Tried to flash the uspl-1.16-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki - ERROR
- Tried also to flash the hardspl-1.16-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-hardspl-niki - Again ERROR!!

Each time on the above two steps my device goes into the tri-colour bootloader screen with the progress bar at 0 then after about 3-5 min I get Update Error!!! Luckily my device is fine except for the fact I get the Smart Mobility - TEST ONLY NOT FOR SALE splash on on every bootup, how do I get rid of it and what am I doing wrong? please help!

UPDATE: Oops my mistake just realized had to run SSPL each time I flashed, Flashed HARD SPL it's OK now;) PLEASE IGNORE ALL SORTED!! Just Flashed HTCAsiaWWE ROM Thanks ahmad yousry, it's a nippy ROM compared to my previous bloated Orange ROM!!!

Fantastic work.
Mine is a qwerty version of Spanish Vodafone network sim locked 5500 touch dual.
This afternoon I put on my device the Test Version of the Roms avaliable and works great!!
I follow steps but I did not flash the uspl, only instal sspl, unplug, plug again and install rom......
First attempt 15%... conexion lost!!!!. All my fears come to me...... recovery did well work...... UUUUUffffffffff!!!!!
Second attempt.... after 6 minutes. All working. No red Vodafone start splash screen, Contacts in the red button (not the fucking VF Live!!!)
But still not possible to put Movistar SIM....Still network locked.
Anyway It will come sooooonnnn
Im very happy whith new rom. Much better than before..

Yes, you can update the rom!

HARD SPL = only unlocking your device so you can put another niki rom on to it!

It means the USPL or HardSPL wasn't flashed to your device in the first place.

But not to worry, this SSPL works fine. I solved the usb issue.

We patched CableChanged but omitted to try loading it with cable connected then unplugging and replugging, unfortunate because we actually also then delved into detectUsbCable evidently unnecessarily... still, it was quite amusing to do since I (Olipro) hacked up a bit of shellcode to BL to that would display "Wahey" and a number on the screen (per iteration) so that we could see where execution got to, anyhow, we're in the US now (New Jersey specifically) so we're technically AWOL at the moment :P

notes from cmonex: you probably already know which function we refer to when mentioning CableChanged, but if not, then it is the function where you patched a BEQ to NOP to always load the proper flag for USB connection. (we did the same patch but as Olipro says above, we didn't test it properly .. then no more testing, as we've gone to the US. :D )
...but if you didn't know the function name, in that case i wonder how you got there without knowing the functions ;)

I updated my 16 keys French version to the ASIA English version... the keyboard works properly, but still starts with XT9 on...

On the other hand, the languages are still : English, French, German, Italian and Spanish by default.... nice....

I found this by pure reversing via deduction and comparison.
I simply compared behaviour of pof's sspl for kaiser with the niki spl (which also runs on kaiser). My only debugging tools are "FEFFFFEA", call printmodelinfo and ida pro. So by using those tools i first determined code flow of pof's sspl and then forced niki-1.16 to do the same thing. The usb patch is my work, the other patches are of course from pof and olipro.

Regarding the work on sim unlock, sure we can collaborate as long as we won't call each other bitch and keep it friendly :D

Thanks for all the help so far. However, I followed your instructions, but can not seem to get it to work.

- after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display - OK
- UNPLUG AND REPLUG USB CABLE!!
- Then flashed the hardspl-1.16-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-hardspl-niki zip file
- You should see progress bar on device and be flashed in about 3-5min
-After that I flashed the WEE HTCAsia ROM! took about 20-30 min

Thanks for all the help so far. However, I followed your instructions, but can not seem to get it to work.

I downloaded MTTY 1.42, unchecked activesync setting "allow USB...", connected phone to computer (phone in red, green, blue screen mode), started MTTY and get no USB option for connecting.

I also downloaded another MTTY version 0.01, which does give me the USB option but gives me the error "USB port can not open"

Make sure you first connect the usb cable and then power on phone by reinserting battery and press power.

Kill activesync in taskmanager, replug usb cable, kill all running instances of MTTY if there are any, and start MTTY 1.42 again. Reboot your PC, or try another PC or ask a friend :D

Bug found in the USB detection!!

If the Device isnt connected befor you start sspl on your device, the sspl cant check a new connected usb cabel. You see only infos about spl version and not USB or Serial.

Can you write a loop in the USB detection section?

Next ... if my activsync client checking usb connection, it stuck on the white "Loading ... Screen!"

Not a bug, it's the only way it will work.
I've added something to the instructions:

Because you flashed the splash screen by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-splash-niki hence the "TEST ONLY - NOT FOR SALE" upon soft reset unfortunately the only way to get rid of this is for you to flash a new Operator ROM e.g. HTCAsia WEE ROM

But before you flash any new ROM make sure you've installed USPL or HardSPL, what did you install USPL or HardSPL? you can check this by going into the bootloader mode (Tri-Color Screen) - just press and hold down POWER + CAMERA buttons while pressing the soft reset with the stylus all at the same time! I know it sounds bit tricky but thats only way to get into that mode!

See the signature jockyw2001 and you see how much did this person.
If Olipro has time and he will find the more best decision this will is published.
Instead of useless talk - search for decisions SIM Unlock.
Qualcomm to have very strong protection. Searching for of the decision SIMUNLOCK -very difficult.

yeah, except pof's SSPL was never patched for USB, he just used a very old SPL that happened to work "out of the box". unless you mean you actually had the patience to go through a lot of code to insert your spinlock / display code many times.

by the way, why printmodelinfo, why not write a neat small function (that you then insert in the SPL) to display your own stuff, more flexible and more options for debugging ;)

I have a Niki100 in Danish...
I'm trying to put it in English...

I did the steps... But after I launch sspl 1.16, four bands (Red, Blue, Green,
White) appears on the screen, with the word "USB" on the white band...

I unplug and replug the USB cable, but... NO CONNECTION!!!... No ActiveSync link... NOTHING!!!
So no way to flash the ROM!

Soft reset must be performed to reboot and escape from the 4 bands screen...

What could be wrong???

It means the USPL or HardSPL wasn't flashed to your device in the first place.
Then you tried to update the ROM which doesn't work of course and now your Niki is still in Rom Update Mode.
You can get it out of that mode by using MTTY to connect to your device via USB (search for MTTY 1.42). Make sure activesync setting "Allow USB connections" is not checked!.

Press return 2 times and you will see a "Cmd>" prompt.
Type "task 8" and your device should reboot normally.
Then try again to flash the USPL or HardSPL (recommended) and once it is installed flash the ROM of your choice.

I tried this, but I see the phone reboot but it goes right away in to the bootloader screen. Please help.

think I bricked mine as well just now. I had tried to install the french rom and it all worked fine. Afterwards I tried to install the HTCAsia rom, but I think I used the wrong rom....
I'd used the install file instead of the nbh file :S

Now I'm stuck in the bootloader (tri-color) screen.
When I try to reinstall the french rom, the update stays at 0%, but when I try to install the RUU_Nike_HTCASIA_WWE_1.31.707.09_Radio_Nike_1.58.1 6.27_signed_Ship.exe
I get 1% and a "ERROR[294] INVALID VENDOR ID" message.

If I can get past that error message, I can probably fully install wm6.
Anyone has an idea?
I did use the sspl, but didn't install the hardspl. That's probably the reason why I can't reinstall the french rom.

I copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to dual...run sspl-1.16-nike.exe...click continue...on display view USB...unplug and replug the usb cable...run flash-uspl-niki...flash ok (cca 1 min)....next reboot....after reboot I set dual as after hard reset. I finally got out of the bootloader screen by using mtty and the "boot" command. After that the device booted normally, but after restart it went in to the bootloader again.
I have replaced the spl now and it works fine again.
Maybe this will help others, who are stuck in bootloader screen.

got also the ERROR [202]: CONNECTION problem in Rom Update Utility.

Flashing the HardSPL was not a problem. After I finished the HardSPL installation I set the niki to tricolor screen (Pwr+Cam+Reset). The Display shows USB, when i disconnect the USB cable the screen shows serial. When I repluged the cable and started the TOM_Niki...exe file I get the 202 error.

ActiveSync does not notice the device when in tricolor mode and usb gets connected? Also i tryed to disable all activesync stuff (connect over usb) and killed all activesyn resources in win taskmanager.

Im using Windows XP SP2 with ActiveSync 4.5

The Niki is a german TMobile branded one.

If any one got a hint for me leading to succes woud be awsome :p

PS: I followed all insturicons from Nike SSPL, USPL and HardSPL Thread, else i could not install the Niki200 SPL-1.16.Hard tri color screen.

PPS: Also tryed to copy the Rom.exe directly to the device, but Im getting the information that the file is not a valid windows mobile executible.

Hi i have a problem,

I follow instructions to the letter, during flasing (either hardspl or uspl) the progress bar, takes less than 3 seconds to get to 100% rather than the 10mins advised, and then the pc says it is completed and the Niki resets.

It still comes up with the orange start screen and, asks for me to calibrate screen and set time.

Is this right ! ?

I then try and install the Rom from "Niki Project ROM V1" and I have no Idea how to do that so am probably doing it wrong, but if I try and launch the prog from the Niki it says "no" basically, and if I try and launch from PC a black box comes up and has a random blinking white line jumping around it.

Any help !

Nope, you should unpack the tom's .exe using winrar (i know it sounds weird but it's an self-extracting and -launching archive) and put the extracted files in c:\temp or a similar directory on your C drive's root

But before you flash any new ROM make sure you've installed USPL or HardSPL, what did you install USPL or HardSPL? you can check this by going into the bootloader mode (Tri-Color Screen) - just press and hold down POWER + CAMERA buttons while pressing the soft reset with the stylus all at the same time! I know it sounds bit tricky but thats only way to get into that mode!

Some Questions ...

I have 3 different Roms with different Radios. This is the reason why i want try to extract the Radio Roms. I have read all wiki entrys about Trinity and Hermes Bootloader. I have try all commandos. "rtask" isnt included in this SPLs or is it disabled via Password? I havent try the dynamic Hermes password generation (its a little bit to heavy for me in the moment).

Its possible to get this command in a future release? Or other way to mess a little bit with the radiobootloader?

Is this the reason why we need a SPL Version lower then 1.16??? For NV item Hacks??? Whats about pof Kaiser SPL? It is rtask enabled? He say something about MFG (username) has a way to enable rtask!

Hi! I tried to install the USPL, but my usb connection failed before it started to install (after running that program and switching the phone to "usb mode"), I think that probably the cable was damaged or something... Anyway, now i can't connect my phone to the computer by USB, only bluetooth (when I connect by usb with a different cable, it charges the phone's battery, but neither the computer or the phone detect the connection). Does anyone know how to solve this? And by the way, is it possible to install the USPL and flash another rom by bluetooth?

3. If hardspl fails for some reason, will my phone be bricked? How would I recover from that?

If you follow the steps below exactly you should have no probs;)

- Then flash the hardspl-1.16-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-hardspl-niki zip file
- You should see progress bar on device and be flashed in about 3-5min
-After that you are ready to flash your chosen ROM. Enjoy!

The HardSPL is never overwritten which in case of flashing trouble is a great insurance, hence I flashed HardSPL and not USPL.Should you want to flash another SPL or USPL you must run the SSPL

"PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS ACCORDINGLY" hardspl will be run on your computer. Since the time I installed hardspl on my device I've flashed several times between ROM's I can't remember for 100% but once done I'm pretty sure it will not wipe your device data:-/ however, play it safe backup your data if you are concerned!

Thanks. The reason I tried to reconnect to WMDC is because when I ran the ROMUpdateUtility.exe, the instructions that popped up said i needed to be connected to AS or WMDC, so when my phone didn't do it, i thought something was wrong.

since I updated the phone with Tom's Rom I have problems using my pc internet connection with my Niki and now reading this I have checked my settings..and the funny thing is that I cannot even open the options menu of USB to PC...when I touch the icon it does not do anything..:(

Funny I have vista and have had both Tom's ROM and Brams ROM and havent had any connection issues (usb to pc)....

make sure you have advanced network functionality turned off sometimes that makes it a little flaky

i have vista installed both at home and work, never had any connection problems either, flashed both the mentioned roms and the htc asia rom no problems, you may want to try reinstalling and making sure your pc is upto date

Well I bought myself a HTC touch now the 16 button version locked to swedish 3.
I think I got hold up on how to unlock it, but whick rom does suit me best? I'd like to have swedish T9 for instance.

Ok here where i got to and the errors:

- download the attached files (OK)
- REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS (OK)
- connect usb cable (OK)
- copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it (usb cable must be connected!) (OK)
- after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display (OK)
- unplug and replug the usb cable (OK)
- you can also flash the hardspl-1.16-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-hardspl-niki (OK)
- after installing the uspl or hardspl you can flash any rom (rom cook project here) (ERROR)

1. PDA connected to USB

I managed to do the splash change which worked, but once i get the error the PDA reboots and reverts back to the Orange ROM - so I guess it didn't work :confused:

more speed via UMTS
in some countrys, the carrier need a higher signal strengh
in some countrys, you have to comply to certain guidelines

but you have to take car about certain things : there are different regional communication restrictions wich is important because if you use a rom that would activate certain functions you can get trouble with your provider (unlikly but possible) because of restriction is signal strengh and channels
this can result in network errors or losing your signal after a time or losing complete calls

to really know what a rom will do after installing you need certain tool wich arent availabe for htc-nike in the moment and information and specs from the producer of the htc or qualcomm

What says 1.35? SPL in the Bootloader? If yes ... i need a dump!

First you must Download SSPL (http://www.4shared.com/file/38033372/1a86577d/sspl-116-nike.html)! Copy it on your device (not on the SD Card!) and start it!

Your device is now in the Bootloader and write something about SSPL or JumpSPL! Disconnect your USB Cabel and Connect it again!

Now you can dump your OS Rom, SPL and Radio ... to do this Read this Thread! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680)

If you havent flash any Rom before on your device ... please share all 3 files with me for future developments!!! (this is importend if you have SPL 1.35!)

I had that problem before and after installing hardspl and the Niki Project ROM. My problem turned out to be the USB cable. I've found that a new cable has pretty much solved the problem, even though ActiveSync and WMDC are still flaky overall.

SPL = Secound or Software Program Loader

Its not realy like a BIOS but some things are the same! Its include the Bootloader. This is the main part we need to Flash a rom. The SPL starts the main parts of the Radio Rom and Init Hardware like Wifi.

HardSPL is a Hacked Version without CID checks. CID is Country ID. All Roms have a Country ID. With the wrong CID, the bootloader stop Flashing!

......hhhmmmm, that's very strange, because I am using a Motorola USB cable and I have got also a Sony USB cable. These tow cables work 100% and there are in very good condition. I do not have troubles with connecting another devices by them, like photocam and bla-bla-bla....

because you already have a hardspl it wont allow the spl to be overwritten, you can bypass this by using the softspl in the first post, then flashing.

about the hard reset: if you use the customruu i made (here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356259)) then it wont hard reset at the end of a flash, but only use this for spl, splash screen and radio flashing. OS flashes require a hard reset.

Just as an update, I have listed the NV items(I'm sure others have too) and have identified item 148. It does have the production value which seems to stop a GPS fix. Changing this is not possible however, the value reverts after a soft reset :-(

Forget that, the changes do not even make it that far. They don't seem to be being written to the device at all.
(Read from device, change value, write changes, read from device. Item 148 still = 11).

The NV item manager does not seem to confirm a successful write. It's possible the protocol might have been changed. Either that or the NV items have been write protected somehow.

Anyone have a newer version of the QPST software? I am using V2.7 build 247 (NV item manager V1.4.16)

I have just tried another approach. I exported the NV items retrieved from the device(after changing 148) before trying to write them as if I was restoring a backup. Although I can backup sucessfully using the same program when I try to restore either the real or modified backup I get the error "Could not Communicate in Diagnostic Mode".

Flashed the hardspl-1.15mfg-nike and it hard reset my phone as well :(

Oh well, at least it's done now.

Just got through set up and my cube is toast so just doing another hard reset. Anyone else had this?

Yeah got that fix and was going to install it if the HR didn't work (which it did)

The attached SSPL, USPL and HardSPL are based on the Nike shipped SPL v1.16
EDIT: HardSPL v.1.15 (MFG - manufacturing) with rtask support now added. I highly recommend to install this version !!!

1. download the attached files
2. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !!
3. connect usb cable
4. copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it (usb cable must be connected!)
5. after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display
6. unplug and replug the usb cable
(OPTIONAL, better to skip it! step 7. if you only want to test the sspl try flashing the attached splash screen by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-splash-niki)
8. you can now flash the hardspl-1.15mfg-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki
9. after installing the hardspl you can flash any rom (rom cook project here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355397))

Note:
The USPL is not a "HardSPL" which means it gets overwritten when you flash a full ROM. You have to run the SSPL if you want to flash any ROM again.
The HardSPL is never overwritten which in case of flashing trouble is a great insurance. Should you want to flash another SPL or USPL you must run the SSPL.

Well I bought myself a HTC touch now the 16 button version locked to swedish 3.
I think I got hold up on how to unlock it, but whick rom does suit me best? I'd like to have swedish T9 for instance.

Does the phone-password disappear after flashing?

Is there a way to backup my original rom and phone and go back if I change my mind?

well, whatever you do - it is on your own risk ;-)

hardspl does not do anything to your phone other than change the 'bootloader' - so to say. you will have the same swedish rom as you have before.

the good thing on jockyw2001's hardspl is that you are then able to flash whatever touch dual rom you want ... among other things which might confuse you at this stage ;-)

now to your questions:

you will have the same rom as before - it just changes the bootloader ( it might happen that you hardreset )

yep, use search and you will find process tp back up your rom ;-)

Will all my applications be deleted?
if it hardreset's all custom application have to be installed again. if not there will be no change other than spl changed .....

then I have the multicolor screen with USB written in the white stripe at the bottom, and nothing happens when I replug the usb cable :(

any idea how this may be solved please ?

there is nothing to solve. continue with flashing of hard-spl ;-)
everything is ok.
