View Full Version : UPDATED 29/2 - iPhone-ish v4.2 Theme for PocketCM 0.20 - Green, White, YBLaze8

What is iPhone-ish?
I am using a customized iPhone-ish theme for my device and wanted to share it here:

I prefer to have my contact's phone number as my second line (as opposed to the company name as in other similar themes) hence the continuation of the iPhone-ish themes however, we have converged so much that there are only a few minor differences.

iPhone-ish Specific
:: Bolded First Line in contact list ::
:: Phone number on second line, instead of company name ::
:: Favourite 'star' overlay graphic on Contact Details Page ::
:: No outlining of Favourite picture on contact detail page ::
:: Small Button Mauve ::
:: 'Star' Favorite indicator in contact list (v2.2+) ::
:: Cleaned up graphics thanks to Davehutch (v2.6+) ::
:: new back button (v4.0) ::

v4.2 now available. It supports PocketCM v0.20 only.

Fixed in this release:
- Green (thanks brambk) and White sms bubble themes
- Edit box categories fix
- Add contact from sms page fix
- Header SIP menu fix
- Phonepad fix
- Smaller theme file
- New SMS Text bubbles and several other fixes.

Screenshots thanks to nanastas

See the known issues section below for remaining items.

Please do not post adaptations/changes to this theme without PM'ing me first. I want to complete it before we start creating copies.

Nice theme.
Problem though with sending e-mail. I select a contact, select there account, choose message store. The to section sometimes will work and show there e-mail and sometimes will not. Also the Pocketcm slides in and covers up the section where the body of my e-mail would be. Not sure if it was the english ini that did this or a bug with .18. Seems to happen in all themes now and i hadn't checked it until after installing your theme so it may just be a .18 bug.

This is a bug with v0.18 of PocketCM.

A temporary workaround is to select your theme and then do a soft reset so that PocketCM will load with the new theme pre-selected when you re-start it.

i like this, but you don't have some of the fixes of the dvtonder version 1.3 , like the favorites icon. also, for some reason, pocketcm runs a little slower with the eds theme compared to dvtonder theme, maybe it is just my imagination.

Can I ask that we keep this thread for discussing my theme (iPhone-DVT) as the topic clearly indicates, that way I can make fixes and adjustments as needed rather than intermixing discussions on 2 or more different themes.

There is a bug actually.
When I scrolled the sms, there was a "Add Contacts" bar overlapped the screen

its Torx-Tevelopment

lets get that straight.

Updated the appropriate text as requested.

I made it very clear that I respect your work by stating clearly that credit goes to you (pardon the typo) for the original theme. I also left the original readme.txt file in the theme which clearly indicates this was your original work.

We are all working at making our devices and more specifically PocketCM better and I see no problem with me sharing my tweaks and bug fixes as long as credit is given where credit is due.

jeez, i didn't realize that this was going to cause such a stir. holy crap. IMHO, i didn't think that this forum needed ANOTHER thread dedicated PocketCM and specifically to Torx Tevelopments iPhone theme. i liked the DVT revision and changes, so i went a step further with some color changes. sorry if i stole anyone's thunder and i humbly apologize. anyhow . . . ALL respect should go to TENE for creating the app and LETTING us play with the settings. Let's get that straight, too.

I agree, Torx Development is incomplete and haven't seen update on the iphone theme. This is theme by the way not code. We are aware this is modified version of Torx Develepment. Credit goes to both Torx and Dvt and especially Tene to make this happen

to get the bubbles on left or right alignment.. to whoever is going to photoshop.. all you gotta do is leave some space in the transparent graphic on the left or right.. then set location parameters for the text. should be good as gold then

My problem is not with the left and right alignment of the text but rather the ability to have the sms entry text at the bottom, next to the send button, fit into the recessed white faux text entry field.

When you start typing an sms, the text is right up against the top left corner of the graphic which defeats the purpose.

This is what I am trying to do but I suspect that it is not possible with the current version of PocketCM

TorxT3D
5th January 2008, 05:52 PM
yea i was looking to do the same, because having the whole area down there white would contrast with the above and just wouldnt look right... thats why i left it all blue down there until a solution came around.

the only thing i can think of and didnt get a chance to try was making that bottom blue bar graphic taller and photoshopping the white space in where the text begins and where the text ends maximmum on the sides and bottom..

This is a known bug with version 0.18 of PocketCM, not the theme.

When you change a theme and try to send an SMS without restarting pocketcm you will get hundreds of errors pop up. Tene is aware of it and I am sure is working on fixing it (if not already fixed in v0.19)

What I did to overcome it is the following:

1) Start pocketcm
2) go to the settings page and select the language file and theme
3) exit pocketcm
4) start pocketcm
5) go to sms and start typing

Unfortunately I don't have a VGA device to develop and more specifically test the theme.

All I can suggest is to go to the pocketcm.com forum and download a VGA theme from there - then you can reverse-engineer it to make the iPhone theme work.

Yes, it goes in the pocketcm folder as well (remember to rename it properly first)

By default, PocketCM uses english text and does not need an english.lang.ini file. However, if you want to disable the text on buttons to use graphical buttons instead, the only way to do this is to install a language.ini file that specifically sets the text labels to blank.

Look in the theme .zip file for settings.ini and then change the following lines:

contactlist.*.item.firstline.font=16p,regular,$fon t$,$dark0$
contactlist.*.item.firstline.highlighted.font=16p, regular,$font$,$high9$

to

contactlist.*.item.firstline.font=16p,Bold,$font$, $dark0$
contactlist.*.item.firstline.highlighted.font=16p, bold,$font$,$high9$

I must say I like the Bold name line and will be including it in the next release.

Any other suggestions?

You're quitting development of the iPhone-ish theme? It'll be a huge loss! :(

I am back at work now and my time is limited thus taking a break from the daily updates. The theme is now very mature and it is getting hard finding things left to do.

v0.19 of PocketCM will be introducing new functionality that may break older themes. I will update iPhone-ish at that time.

If there are specific requests for updates to iPhone-ish, just PM me and I will see what I can do.

I can't get the text to line up on the keypad or disappear from the buttons
Any ideas where I should look in the settings file to solve it please?

EDIT
OK, got it all to line up because the phonepad settings didn't take into account the smaller $bottom$ value.
Also had to resize the Call and Cancel buttons to the same size as the main icons.
Also adjusted the Default picture settings so that it doesn't stretch and pixelate.
plus other bits and pieces like name only on the Contact List screen and a different font (Lucida Grande) which I belive is the iPhone font.
(attached screenshots)

Still can't get rid of the text on the Call and Cancel buttons though...any ideas?

Thank you but, if you use v2.5 you don't need these smaller buttons. I fixed the alignment using the original v2.2 dimensions

I can't work out where all these versions keep coming from and what is the difference between V2.5 (2.4 was the latest when I started on this today :-)) and v6?

Here are the tidied graphics. The blue and mauve ones are mucch smoother than the green so I didn't adjust them at all

Any idea about the text over the buttons?

Kudos on the nice work my only issue is when i load a different theme the colour isn't changing. I have my ini file (renamed of course without the .txt). When i select the theme and language then soft reset then open the app it comes back up with the same colour. Any ideas?

The change in the colours are in the SMS message bubbles on the sms conversation screen. The base colour for the menu's and buttons are the same between all three versions

Let me try to explain the history:

Torx-Tevelopment created an iPhone like theme in early January. Both Extraducksause (iPhone-EDS in the mash up thread) and I (iPhone-ish) started modifying the base theme to our liking.

I am maintaining the iPhone-ish themes and released v2.5 this morning to fix the bug with the phone pad alignment introduced with the smaller buttons of v2.3 and later. If the same problem exists with EDSv6, I a sure Extraducksauce will release an update to the smaller button version of his theme (it is based on my v2.3 so likely has the same bug).

Both of us have stopped active development (other than bug fixes) on our iPhone themes.

I was however asked to develop an PointUI-ish theme which I am still actively developing and is available on a separate thread.

Thank you for the updated images. I am still a novice at photoshop and was never too happy with the way they looked, however, given that it is not really a bug, I may or may not release a v2.6 with the updated images. Maybe I will wait a while to see if anything else comes up.

You have to use the english.lang.ini file attached to the 1st post (remember to remove the .txt extension (show extensions in windows explorer) and select the language when you select your theme.

May I ask a favour - I spent a couple of hours last night trying to make blue button graphics for my PointUI-ish (blue) theme and even though they work, they are very pixellated and jagged. Since you seem to know your way with graphics, and provided you have the time and it is not an imposition, could you take a stab at cleaning the blue buttons as well?

The theme is available on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357389

Where and how to change SMS typing.

First off, love the the way it looks and how things are progressing. Was wonder what happened to the alphabet/categories on the contacts screen (not quite sure what that widget would be called). Its present contact screen on the default PocketCM at least v18. Looking and search I did not find a reference to why it was removed form your theme perhaps cause its not on the iPhone? Anyways I have like 400 contacts and while the finger scroll is neat using it to scroll through a list that long is too hard. I still would like to only use my thumb so the side category feature is really cool. Just a though or question. Thanks for all your work your theme is really neat.

You can still use your thumb on the side (both left and right sides) to quickly scroll down to a specific alphabet letter. All we have done is hide the index as it is not visible on the iphone and this is an iPhone-ish theme but the functionality still exists.

2 issues while using pocketcm. 1, is there any way to stop the keyboard from popping up as you slide to use the hardware keyboard? (Yes in settings input I check the large keys) 2, is it me or it's a little laggy on response when you hit the send button? Anyone else with these problems?

Thank you for this great theme, been using it for a while, latest update 2.6 is indeed nicer :-)

just one thing, in your ini file, you should add 2 items :

pressing "remove contact"
=> "contactdetailpanel.contactdetail.removecontact.dia log.text=Confirm contact deletion ?"

SMS not sent (due to network issues for exemple)
=> "contactlist.contactlist.sms.failed=WARNING, SMS was not sent !"

To mark a contact as a favorite, go to the contact detail page and click on the contact picture. A menu will show and you can select to add the contact to the favorites

To send from the overview window, select the contact you want to talk to and type the sms as normal

Kudos DvTonder :) New design is great ! However I just found out a bug :

on a contact details page, if I press the email address, it prompts me which account to use to send an email (SMS or MMS in my case, I don't use POP3/IMAP), and this brings up the messaging app, but in the app the "send to" address is : "on.contactdetailpanel.close"

any idea where it might come from ? other than that, seems to flow pretty well (maybe a little bit slower to trigger the options panel on a long phone icon press...)

v3.0 uses images for the buttons on the contact details page thus the larger size. This makes it larger and slower than v2.6.

If you want the fancy graphics on the contact details page, use v3.0, if you want speed use v2.6.

v4.0 Beta2 now available. It supports PocketCM v0.19 only.

Fixed in this release:
- Landscape mode supported (except Dialpad)
- Index feedback bar changed
- Final edit contact page

See the known issues section below for remaining items.

Please do not post adaptations/changes to this theme without PM'ing me first. I want to complete it before we start creating copies.

V3.0 supports PocketCM 0.18

What about the future?
I am leaving on vacation soon and wont be able to update this theme after tomorrow. Will see how far I get and leave it to the others to continue.

:: Small Button Mauve ::
:: 'Star' Favorite indicator in contact list (v2.2+) ::
:: Cleaned up graphics thanks to Davehutch (v2.6+) ::
:: new back button (v4.0) ::

Be sure to check out the ExtraDuckSauce's iPhone-EDS theme at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356419

Release History:
v3.0:
- Theme for pocketCM 0.18 only
- Discontinued version

v4.0 Beta2: (Jan 21, 2008 AM)
- Support for PocketCM 0.19 only
- Many, many updates everywhere
- New Back button
- New SMS Text Entry Box
- Changed Index feedback bar
- You will need the attached language.ini file to fill in some missing text

Known Issues:
V4.0 Beta2:
- Dialer not supported in Landscape mode
- SMS panel does not show the phone number or character counts (not added yet)
- the phonepad does not work properly when you are pressing the buttons - I think I saw Tene mention it as a known bug in v0.19
- I am sure there are other bugs, let me know what you find

Installation:
To Install, copy the appropriate theme file to the pocketcm folder and then select 'Theme' from options in pocketcm.

To use the english.lang.ini.txt file, rename it first to english.lang.ini, copy to the PocketCM folder and select 'language' from options.

Credits:
Credits go to Torx-Tevelopment, ExtraDuckSauce, Anja31, Olioaglio, lightbiter, DaveHutch and of course TENE!.

hey guys, i'm LOVING the theme. the only thing that bothers me is that i can't edit contact by tapping the name in sms like we use to be able to, but i don't think that has anything to do w/ the theme. this is making it very much more enjoyable...fantastic job!

I installed V4

It look nice and good job on it but I got 1 issue.

Pressing "SEND" on SMS isn't doing anything or sending the SMS out.

So the messages I typed out just sit in the box and pressing send button next to it does nothing.

Right now I have it set to use WM old app sms instead in the optional until I figure out why the PocketCM sms send button isn't working.

I have no idea if it the PocketCM end or the theme end that issue is coming from but wanted to post to let you know.

Great Job on the theme!

It sounds like the zip file you are putting in has a parent directory. ie Make sure the files are not in a foler in the zip file. Instead they are just zipped up.

If you open the zip on ya desktop go inside the folder, select all the skin files and zip up. Don't zip up by clicking on the folder.

Hope that helps.

You came near to the target. On the yellow theme you already have created, press at 2/3 from bottom-left (or 1/3 from bottom-right), a menu will pop up, drag up to " Go to options" choose the select them, and then "Select theme" you will have your theme.

Thought about sticking with the default PCM 0.20 theme as it's quite nice, but having used the iPhon-ish theme on previous versions I thought I'd give the beta a go.

Fabulous! Great job. I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Just one quick question; on the screenshot at the top of the htread, the SMS bubbles look to be grey and green, much as they were on the previous version. Now mine seem to have retained similar colours to those in the default theme. Bug or design change?

Again, great job - really like this.

It is actually a problem with pocketcm. After switching theme close pcm them reopen pcm. The theme will work fine after that. BOO

i had already tried vat u suggested, even a soft reset could not resolve the issue.
is Net CF not a problem ? actually most recent rom r cooked with NetCF 3.5 and mine too. Even i saperatly installd NetCF 2.0
am i doing something wrong ? or CF3.5 alone is required ?

Hi, i tried it but every time i change the theme to "iPhone-ish v4.1" in PCM then i get this type appearence

71502

other default theme in PCM (like "Dream" ) work well.
how can i fix it ?

When you see this 'orange' version of pocketcm, it means that no theme has been loaded.

Can you confirm that the .zip file is in your \program files\pocketcm directory?

Send me a screenshot of the pocketcm directory, please

OK, please log it as a bug over at the pocketcm forum. It is clearly not related to the theme.

Sms letters counter is missing. :(

You can add it yourself; just add the folowing lines in the settings.ini file:

panel.smspanel.smscounter.box=80%,15p,100%,28p
panel.smspanel.smscounter.font=10p,regular,Segoe UI,$high9$

Sms letters counter is missing. :(

Yes, it is by design.

It would be very easy to add it back in yourself.

1) Open the theme .zip file and extract the settings.ini file
2) search for the line panel.smspanel.smscounter.font=none
3) replace it with panel.smspanel.smscounter.font=8p,regular,$font$,$ high9$
4) Update the theme .zip file with the new settings.ini
5) Re-start pocketcm and you will have the counter

(on line 3 it is $high9$ not $ high9$ - for some reason the forum inserts a space when you save the post)

I don't use the counter myself as pocketcm automatically splits long messages into multiple sms's if they exceed 160 characters therefore I don't particularly care about the character count of my messages. I also find it makes the header section look messy.

If I get enough requests to add it in as a standard to the theme I will consider it. PM me.

I removed the text from the main row buttons as they took up valuable screen space. It has been like that since iPhone-ish 1.2 or something like that.

I changed the line as you described above(cut and paste. I can't made mistakes). But, after this change, when i load the theme "iphone", pocketCm show the theme "white" instead of the one i choose.
I've tried to switch to other themes ("touch") and went back to "iphone", but pocketcm shown the "white" theme again.
Each time i've changed theme, i've restarted pocketCm.
Strange behavior ! Isn't it ?

(sorry for my poor english, I'm italian)
Tnx in advance.

I've attached some screenshots of this version. By far the best theme out there, great work.
How touchy is this new format for themes? I'm trying to make modifications like font sizes and colours, and the slightest changes causes the whole theme to qo squirrelly? Not just your themes, even the others out there.
Weird.
Again, great job.

Two words: Very Touchy

You really need to know how all the panels etc work and what the generic settings are or you can break the theme quite easily.

Did you double check that you do not have the space in $ high9$ but it is $high9$ (without space?)

Thanks for a great skin, but the new 4.2 doesnt run well on my htc artemis. It locks up when trying to show all contacts. Then i have to soft restart... Not sure what happens, but for now i'll go back to 4.1 which works fine apart from the sip-menu dropping down when i try to close the application (is there a close button in the top right corner? - I don't see it, but it works randomly)

There are very few differences between 4.1 and 4.2 and I find it strange that 4.2 wont work where 4.1 did. Which beta version of 4.1 are you using? does it crash on the first start?

One thing you may want to try is delete your contacts cache in the pocketcm folder and restart pocketcm.

To prevent the sip menu from dropping down. you can edit the 4.1 theme and add the following line to the header section of the settings.ini

header.*.hit.box=40p,0,-40p,100%

Thanks for your quick reply.

It seems that this morning it does in fact work, but it is a little slower than the 4.1 version. Not sure why it works today though.

I still cant find the close button (if there is one?) sometimes it works by tapping the battery icon, sometimes in right hand corner of the 'all contacts' topbar.

Is it possible to map the keypad to another application like for example the dialer.

Thanks!

Strange indeed. I suspect an issue with your device maybe?

4.2 should not be any slower than 4.1 - the images are the same.

There is a phantom, non-visible [X] button in the top right corner like all WM applications. Clicking in the same location will close/minimize the application.

You can also minimize the application by using the hardware OK button or the bottom right menu icon (press and hold for 250ms)

Thanks. I've been using the phantom button, but is there any way of making it visible or at least larger, so i dont have to stabb like crazy before hitting it?

I also have another question regarding this brilliant application. Is there away to make other applications load pocketcm instead of the original wm contacts/adressbook?

VGA device is using a size of double size from QVGA, which is (480x640)
I think you can use "Nyditot Virtual Display" software to make your QVGA
transform for a while to VGA :D
Please make some for VGA, thanks :)

Just one suggestion for the bubble by yblaze8..

it would look better if the text within the bubbles were moved down about 6-10 pixels i think so it doesn't get lost within the highlighted upper part of the bubble. (Just move the text box)

I think that would make them look even better

very close to iphone!
nice job on your theme

On a side note:
Vista-ish v1.0 will likely be the last 'official' theme I release. I spent my time figuring out the workings and documenting the settings.ini file and am happy to say that my work has now enabled other, more graphically inclined individuals like htctoucher, PhilD41 and PoorlyDuck to take the torch and run with it.

It was a lot of work but it was fun!

I believe there is a problem with XT9 and pocketcm sms - this is not theme related though. You have to disable XT9 of you use PCM keyboard. Look over at the pocketcm.com forum for details

Depends on whether you want it to show your SMS by default when you receive one, or to activate when you want to write a new SMS.
