I understant that most of you are flashoolics. But maybe some are like me
and are waiting for the perfect or almost perfect WM6 Prophet Rom.
Can i ask if that is your case ?
(Respects and admiration to: Cloudyfa, hma4, Gollum, korand)

Yes I'm waiting for a 'perfect' wm6 ROM...
I'm using Prophet Shadow Touch Edition from Cloudyfa and I think that's almost perfect :p
Just a little memory leak but reboot and bye bye ^^

Well the perfect rom won't come i think.. You can only cook a perfect rom by youself if you want it perfect as everyone is different and use their PDA's for different things, and therefore needs different software.. But it should be possible to get really close.. Iam using Prophet Shadow and i think it is allmost a perfect rom for me.. But to be perfect it would need Korand's roms speed and some apps that i use..

The problem is that diferent users needs diferent things, the perfect ROM shouldn't include a program in ROM that you know you'll never use. The only perfect ROM is a kitchen ROM.

I don't agree at all. The perfect rom would be just one that was bug-free.
I keep balancing between different roms because they all seem to have one fundamental flaw which isn't found in the others. The Touch series was pretty slow, sometimes unstable (for me) but functional, Crystal had unstable wifi and certificates problems, Shadow has a problem with the buttons in media player and k0ster's superfast rom has had bluetooth issues (these may now be fixed) and has now lost part of Office.
It would be wonderful if the great rom cookers could get rid of the bugs between them and then we could choose between different versions according to what they looked like or the included apps. Today its like picking the one which doesnt break functions too much.
Before you start on me - I know full well that people cook roms in their own time and I'm more than grateful for their efforts. I just don't get why they're still all broken.

The Perfect Rom will appear when the planets align, when the sky goes red and death drops from above!!!!
But seriously you can only make your perfect ROM yourself everyone has different expectations. Me personally, I like the Crystal v5.0 it seems stable only had one problem (that was solvable) so other than that you can’t go wrong.

I think your observation is very usefull. And I can admire the trouble that you have to write a reply.
Let me say that Da9L, WhiteWizard and jspacemarine have the opinion that the perfect rom is a rom with the apps that we need pre-installed.
Why ? Do we have that on i386 SO's ?
NO, i like to tweak and install the apps in my way, but with cabs in ppc.
Now littld have a better aproximation to the problem in my opinion.
A clean and 100% bug-free Rom, that is my point. Not a Rom with apps pre-installed, because i have brains and can install the apps my self.
The reference should be an official Rom, and when achieved, we start from there.
But that is me, and with that in mind, can you believe ?

Maybe you should cook your own ROM.
Check this thread how to add/remove programs from ROM.

I think a (almost) perfect rom is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349338
but its only for the hermes. :( Seens to be very fast, with a lot of tweaks and big storage.
For my Prophet i´m using the "Vista stylish ROM ( NEOMAX )" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351103, wich
is very fast and stable.

That's not what iam saying.. Iam saying that the perfect rom dosn't exist because everyone is different .. As an example my perfect rom would be with all the software i use pre installed and bug free.. But that would probably not be a perfect rom for you.. Which means that the perfect rom dosn't exist..
BUT a bug free rom would be the most perfect rom you could get, that would be perfect for everyone..

Yes, yes, is that what i'm asking, i'm not requesting any rom.
But I-mate, qtek and others decided to not upgrade prophet to wm6, when we all know that he have nice specs. Market strategy or they know that wm6 would never fit on prophet like Vista does not fit on a pentium I.
The question is more like,
Do you think prophet can be 100% WM6 compatible. Not requesting a costumized rom.

Perfect or not perfect is just about need of something..
Perfect Rom for someone is not same as the others..
So.. I think ROM that I use is perfect...:D

Yea, I think I was wrong on my first reply, a WM6 Clean ROM, 100% bug free, with Touch support, and BIG STORAGE, so you can install almost 60MB of programs, and remove them if you like, or upgrade them.
You were rigth Kram3r.

why do you all hate and want to lock it ?
If you dislike this thread then just leave it and don't even post in it.
apart from that I think the cookers can make a near perfect rom if they all stick to one rom and fix all the bugs in it. not fixing some bugs in a rom and then going to build a new rom with new bugs which they fix only some of them again.

for instance shadow clean edition is a very good and stable rom
and Xb after the repairs is also a very good one
I think the cookers should insert the fixes and bugs into their rom and release the bug free version.
we should classify roms into 2 categories : 1.clean and 2. with programs and effects
I think someone should handle all the things and manage the cookers activities.
because they all are giving so much time and effort in this regard and if someone takes them all together we will surely have the PERFECT ROM.
someone called : master cooker or head chef :)

I agree completely. This is a place to discuss wm phones and development for them.
It is tiring to hear the same "cook your own rom" stuff. Maybe the title of the thread is wrong or something. I'll start another.

I was wondering... If we can have a excel sheet, something like this...
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/9098/romclassificationjz4.jpg
And every user can post the points that he tested, and we can cross the diferent results to achieve a good feedback.
Maybe google docs, don't know, just an ideia.
But please don't get me wrong. The thread question is very simple, yes or no.

In this case you are totally right. This forum is ment to unite people to work at a collective goal: the perfect ROM. Working together and sharing information will help to achieve this.
But threads like this one are not constructive. There is no information-sharing nor an initiative to a shared project. The only thing that is shared here so far are personal favours and opinions about the work and projects of others. That doesn't make the world turn.
But the idea of collecting pro's and con's in a database, Excelsheet or whatever can be a first step. But focus on real bugs, not on favours or exeptional (non-intended) usage. I think it is important to sort the real by build. A lot of real bugs aren't in the "receipy" but in the source ROM.
If you investigators can achieve such database AND are able to initiate a project among ROM cooks to work together on a flawless baseROM, then the world will not only turn, but rocks! (That is, if MS stops to release new builds every two weeks...)
In short, don't sit back and comment, but take action!
SUCCES!
