HOWTO: install 4-Side / 6 side cube on HTC Touch (P3450) ELF

[Re-Mi]

This Howto is a freehand translation from the howto HavocNL posted in dutch on tweakers.net

You find your normal 3 side cube boring, and you want to get more out of your cube?
Now you can you can make the cube 4 or 6 sides now (you can also install the Icube as it's almost the same as the other 2)

Files you need ;

Files4GSM.zip (http://rapidshare.com/files/80885436/Files4GSM.zip), 4Side cube (http://rapidshare.com/files/77602783/VistaCubeDefaults4Sides.zip)or 6Side cube (http://rapidshare.com/files/77602850/VistaCubeDefaults6Sides.zip)

Programs you need to have installed (PPC);

Totalcmd (http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm), PHM Regeditor (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/)

Things to know !:

The Cube only loads at startup (or after a soft reset), any change you make will be visible after reboot.
The new Cube doesn't work with PNG files anymore, BRN is the format you want.
The 6-side cube isn't any different from the 4-side cube (the how to is written for the 4 side cube), the only big differents is that you have to fill 4 sides and not 2.

Okay lets start;

First thing you do.
Backup APLauncher.exe and Biotouch.exe form your windows directory with Totalcmd.
Now you have to copy 2 files from the file4GSM.zip APLauncher.exe and Biotouch.exe to your storage card just like you would with every other file. After that copy them to the windows directory using Totalcmd.
(direct copying form your pc to the windows directory on your ppc doesn;t work for this files.)
After this just do a reset just to make sure that everything still works, if all did go well you shouldn't see any differents with your older cube.

Install the 4Side/ 6side cube:

Now you have an updated (3 side) cube that was original written for the Enchanced. But we're not there yet. We are still missing the extra sides.
Choose between the 4-side or 6-side zip file posted above. Unpack the Cab file and install it to your ppc. After the install soft-reset again. After the soft-reset you will find your cube having 4 or 6 sides now. Where the Quickdial and the Mediahub will still have their original funtion (only different icons on the Qd side).
But the most important part is that you will now have 2 applauncher sides, the only thing is they are both blank. Sorry for that ..

No just kidding, I will explain in a few moment how to revive your old applauncher side.
First I will help the 4 side users the remove some stuff you don't need anymore. 6-side users please skip this step. In your windows directory you will find APLauncher.exe, APLauncher2.exe, APLauncher3.exe and APLauncher4.exe. You can remove the 3rd and 4th side as you don't use them (with totalcmd). Again 6-side users leave these values where they are.

Adjust the 4/ 6 side cube (and revive your old APLauncher side):

Alright use PHM Regeditor to change things in the registry (or any other, I just found one that change your PPC registry from your P, it types a whole lot better :P named CERegEditor (http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/?lang=en))
Al the keys you have to change are in the following registry directory
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\BioTouch
(4-side users can remove the APLauncher3 and APLauncher4 keys)
Okay lets take a look into the different APLauncher keys, if you did take a good look you found out that the registry values of the APLauncher is different than APLauncher1 (2 and 3). These differences are the reason you normal APLauncher doesn't work anymore.
We are going to adjust the APLauncher key to show your normal APLauncher again.
(You can copy the values out of the APLauncher1 key folder.)
Make sure every main folder of the APLauncher's has a background key!
Rename the subfolders in APLauncher to App0 -> App5 (0 is upper left, 1, middle left, 2 bottom left, 3 upper right, 4 middle right, 5 bottom right)
Every subfolder must contain the following values: (the fixed values al already filled in)

Height 105 (80 with 12 apps)
IconPath Path to the icon, exmpl. \Windows\AL_01.brn
IconPressPath Path to a pressed icon, exmpl. \windows\AL_01_HL.brn
Name The name you will see in the cube, exmpl. E-mail
Param Parameters for the program exmpl.. -service "ActiveSync"
Path Path to the program. \Windows\tmail.exe
Type 0
Width 119 (80 with 12 apps)
xPos X position in the screen (left to right)
yPos Y Position on the screen (top to bottom)

X,Y Positions (6 apps per screen)

0,0 121,0
0,107 121,107
0,214 121,214



X,Y Positions (12 apps per screen) ( the weight and height should both be changed to 80)

0,0 80,01 60,0
0,80 80,80 160,80
0,160 80,160 160,160
0,240 80,240 160,240

If you want to use a 12 apps side you will have to manually make subfolders App6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and fill them with the correct parameters posted above.

After changing all the values you should upload the brn icons to the correct folder. You can find multiple brn icons all over this forum Here you can find the ones for the normal applauncher. If you want to make your own there is a nice program called BrnConvert (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351551). This program can only convert bmp to brn and back.

I would advice to make a icons directory on your memory card as it saves some room on your device, but remember you have to change the path.

Okay now all you have to do is adding icons and programs to the other APLauncher sides.

This was about it. I surely will change multiple things when I see some error's typo's or add ons :D

Hi I'm facing with a new trouble....
After power off,the unit hangs on windows mobile logo during the boot.
This defect can be solved only with a sof reset.
in other words a soft reset is required each time I want perform a new boot.

I don't think this is caused by the cube. The cube is only activated when you open it for the first time after a soft-reset. Until that point is not active.

There is no way yet to create an only cab to auto change and modify the registry and make the new sides of cube works

Yeah i think so (i'm really not intothe knolledge of vogues but) i thought i've readed that the vogue has the biotouch and aplauncher you have to replace.

i would suggest try to install the cab without modification. If it doesn't work correctly just uninstall.

btw i tought i saw a 4side cube thread on the vogue forum somewhere.

Hi, I've installed the 6 sided cube, and edited the reg copying the width etc and the background into the 1st app. Linked to different Brn's but cant get any icons to show on any of the 4 pages even the origional aplauncher page are missing.

have a hermes 100 with schaps 4.30 rom, has touch flow baked in. I can get the cube to install, if I open the config settings file then exit it it opens the cube, and i can spin, flip, close all properly, however to open it back up again I have to open the SCLPFconfig and exit to get the cube to re open. Kinda weird. anyone else try it on a hermes? what is the command line to open the cube, spin ect. on other cubes they are part of the files and you use flotouch to open and execute them, XDAcube clone 3 side works like a charm, any ideas?

But the only problem I have at the moment is my Mediahub is displaying 3 sections Music, Photo & Video but the icons cannot be displayed. It looks fine in the touch settings software but it doesn't display the icons. There is no settings for the background image MH_BKGD.BRN in the registry, how is it being used?

Hi guys,

I managed to resolve it already. The problem was the original MediaHubMini.exe needs to be replaced with the one from Touch Settings V2.25 cab. Once I replaced it, it works fine now.

I think for some of you the problem could be solved bij checking the coordinates of the buttons in the registry.

Make shure you have a background installed.

But i must confes that i myself doesn't use the 4 or 6 side cube anymore.

I flash to many time's and i got bored setting up the cube every time.

therefor i cannot post any registry setting, test out the problems to get you all some solutions etc etc.

Sorry about that, but hey what's more fun then testing it out yourself try some different options see what they do. If you reach the solution that way you will feel a lot better that you did it yourself :D

Please read the first post again, i can see you didn't do several things mentioned there.

Rename the App*_* to App*
For the icons not showing look at your

"xPos"=dword:00000000 and "yPos"=dword:00000000 they are not correct.

You have to set them for the icons And you have to set them manually for the Applauncher.

And the applauncher (1) can't handle png files anymore the have to be brn ( i added them in the first post)

it doesnt work for me :(

First i tried to install both APLauncher and biotouch, restart, but when sliding finger, nothing happens, instead the touchdisplay stops responding, only keys responding. Then i tried put back the backuped files and installed vistacube6sides with original biotouch and APLauncher, then the cube appears, but it only shows dialer page and media page, and the cube freezes half way around 2 sides (until i slide finger again), also with new APLauncher. The new biotouch file makes the touchscreen not responding.

Know whats wrong?

I liked your howto for the 6 sided

I tried to install it on a wm6 also no luck with the icons and I tried every thing from converting the .png's into bmp and then into .brn's and nothing worked the apps would launch but no Icons

So now My question is when you did this was it on a WM6.0 or on a WM6.1 and is this touch rom specific ?

The new Touch Settings from Carlosp_uk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324556) also has support to edit the cube. For a more automated approach you can also use that handy tool.

I see that you understand the topic of HTC TOUCH, I need a little help.
My intention is to change the look of the icons of HTC Touch and adapt my skins SCLPC, not if you know my work, you can paste a look HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1974237#post1974237).
Practice mind I have already adapted one of my skin but the menu icons contact does not work click on them.
Use original icons that I facilitated a friend and everything is perfect as the least those related to the menu contact.
All I can say is that when change does not permit me to save the changes, as if they were protected I store in another folder and then wrote about, I think that the problem here.
Can you help me understand that these icons do not work.

I went and followed the how to, to the letter.

Everything works, except one thing. on my 3 item the top one that i changed to open windows media now only shows half the icon, and it seems all distorted. i know the icon is good because i assigned it to annother one on there just to test.

any ideas how to fix this?

I went with 12 apps on one screen and I can make my own icons and I'll share them but I need the blank squares. I have them for the 6 app screen but they don't work for the 12 app screen because they gradually fade to dark. If I just use the 6 app squares and make them smaller I'll be missing one row top or bottom. Any ideas? ~andi

I've just installed the Touch Essentials 1.6-ROM, but that ROM doesn't come with a cube.
So now I'm trying to install the 6-sided cube.

I just copied the two files from Files4GSM.zip to the Windows-folder (using TotalCommander) and rest my phone, but nothing happens when I slide my finger.
Did I miss anything?

Apparantly the value of 'Enable Cube' in Advanced Config Settings didn't mean the cube was enabled. :confused:
I had to change the value of the EnableCube-registrykey to 1 'by hand'. The cube opens now, when I slide my finger up. But after that, it almost hangs. I can't use the cube and I can only close it by putting my phone to standby and on again.

same problem, whats use of taking cube out if you cant get hold of a better one, this is the main extra feature on this phone. no dis respect to the developer (who's idea it was to take out). i do appreciate all the hard work gone in to this.

installing anything should be more easyer . cab use auto install full original or better cue would be good. thanks

Well I could install the cube cab available in other topic here in the forums, but it worked so slow that was unusable...

So I'm still stuck in the same point.

Obviously, between each try I did the mandatory soft-reset.

I've tried with Touch Settings, and I put the default layout 2x3, with the default icons included in that .cab, and the icons doesn't appear again.

I've tried with my own icons, the original icons, put them into my storage card and into my Windows directory, Touch Settings... but nothing works. What can I try? Any idea? Are there any incompatibility?

I want the Cube on HTC Diamond, because The Diamond has a good quality hardware. The Cube is more simple and comfortable for business work (sometimes when I'm driving). Touch Flo3D is fashion 3D, but it's not so comfortable, and there is more movements I've to make to do something.

Im gonna crap myself. SUPER NEWB here. I can't get the cube working on Touch Essential 2.3!!! Please help. Is there a "option" to enable the installed cube or something? I Already installed FTouchFlo, and the CUBE, just can get it working.

ok, so i have the htc touch and i just started customizing the four-sided cube. But as soon as i installed the cab on my phone, i noticed the cube was very slow. i was hoping once i finished the process it would speed up again but its still very slow. I even tried doing the whole process over again but still no change. Does anyone know of a way to get the phone back up to speed while still having the cube?
