ok, since this problem is getting seriously troubling, i decided to open up a new thread for it.

i have tried two different wm5 roms, three different wm6 roms, three different sd cards, four different radio roms, two different ipl and two different spl versions. no luck so far. and this is the story in detail:

EVERY program icon in the pull down start menu referring to prgrams installed to the memory card disappears/turns into a white box after EVERY soft reset. if i then switch off phone fuctionality through the commanager, they SUDDENLY re-appear correctly. when i activate the phone again, they STAY THAT WAY! but after the next soft reset, they are all white again.

the funny thing is that it really only concerns icons with reference to the storage card and ONLY the start menu section, NOT(!) the "recent programs" section. there they remain in tact after soft reset.

so it looks as if this is some problem between the radio and the storage card slot (or drivers) during the boot phase.

has anybody encountered this problem, too? is there any solution? i also contacted o2 customer service which told me they would try to reproduce this issue on their machines, and if they could not confirm it, they would deal with it as technical flaw - hopefully meaning that they would replace my device. :D

so, any suggestions, mates??

The solutions below work fine in my case. You might like to give it a try if it is a real problem for you.

My earlier solution:
1. run clauncher (you can download it practically everywhere)
2. only activate clauncher (edited: tray launcher) and (optional) type in NO path for any application
3. find and run any software such as SKTools enable to set the order of applications in the StartUp folder
4. set clauncher.lnk(edited: tray launcher) as the first in order
5. soft-reset

Or, try the alternative to solve icon-missing problem
My present solution:
simply using quickmenu in lieu of WM menu (again, it's available everywhere)

Good luck!

isn't it a common issue....,a nuisance ^^?? it happens all over wm2003, wm5, wm6....
actually you don't need to do anything except to "re-click" any item of menu on the setting page to get the icons back, if you decide not to rely on the third party applications.

BTW, if you don't really appreciate Quickmenu, an additional exe, you might like to wait for this >>> http://www.dotfred.net/FdcStartMenu.htm. However, my wild guess is this one might have the very same problem since it doesn't change the order of all the services....
