This is definitely the last MAJOR bug for me to sort out, could you give me some details in terms of the pictures that are giving you problems. What are the sizes and extension. I really wanna knock this one in the head :).

I had the same problem and when I changed the picture names that were sent with PictureFlow from say 1.jpg to r1.jpg they all worked. Not sure why it would not recognize the number, but it worked great when I made the change to the file names. Hope this helps some........

Great software. Everything works fine.

Question:
I want to have all my pictures of my albums in the pictureflow. My music albums are all in folders with one picture named folder.jpeg. Is it possible to let the pictureflow look one folder upwards and gets all jpeg available in those maps?

Because now i have to copy all my album pictures into the map of the pictureflow.

For Example:
My music --> Amy Winehouse --> Folder.jpeg
Craig David --> Folder.jpeg
...
Picture Flow --> All jpeg of folders.

Yup yup, I've already got the function to do that, wrote it for mp3s in PocketMelody, but I wont be porting it over to PF until we're more stable.

Great, than I wait with coping al my pictures! Is it only working with PocketMelody? Or also with other music players?

And what do you think about the possibilty to use the pictureflow as same as the album function of the Iphone! That you can flip the picture by touching it, so that you can see what numbers there are on the album and that you can select the album or number! do you think that that is possbile?

Finally sorted out the kinks, and here is 0.6. Well, on the first page that is ;).

If all goes as well as it did on my wizard. 0.7 Will be the final release before PocketMelody integration! :D Very excited. Check, and let me know how it goes. Should work for both WM5 and WM6. But, PLEASE READ MY NOTES! :)

Hey thundershadow, are you still planning on working on this as a stand-alone app even after you have integrated it with your player? Seems like there are a lot of features that would be useful in a separate app that you probably wouldn't need within a media player.

Definitely, I plan to work on integrating it into a full fledged picture viewer. But I can only work on one project at a time. Currently all the PocketMelody guys are waiting very patiently for me to sort this out, and get back to PM.

PocketMelody 0.4 will sport a completely new interface, as well as extending itself to the QT library. Support for playlist indexing and sorting has already been coded, and PF integration to browse album art will also be introduced. Video support is planned for sure, but a bit later down the road. Skins will also be supported, possibly in 0.5, so you can change things to suite your own needs :).

Whenever I try to install the app. I always get an error saying the file "pictureflow" cannnot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file. I've restarted the device several times and it still doesn't work. Can someone please help me to try and figure out this problem. I have an HTC Mogul if that helps.

love the potential of this program and how it will integrate with PM. However, just wondering if I am the only one having problem with this program stretching the images when it is fullscreen (unless your device has a squzre screen). I am not talking about the pixelation on the fullscreen in the latest release but the in all the releases, this turns your image into square aspect ratio for th epictureflow thumbnails but then expands its (and thus stretches it) when it goes fullscreen.

This will be dealt with as well, since I have to re-write the fullscreen painting function anyway, due to it's pixilation. Can you (or anyone) post a picture that you get this problem with, so I fully understand what the problem is, and debug properly :).

Hey thundershadow, are you also going to change the thumbnail view as well so that it doesn't stretch the previews of non-square images into a square?

Also, how easy is it to work on the scrolling feature? At present, it seems to go by duration (e.g. if I move my finger across the screen really slowly for a LONG time, it scrolls through everything) vs. having it go by velocity (e.g. the faster I swipe, the faster it scrolls).

basically, all pictures that are not square have this problem. On my device, native resolution is 240 x 320, so an image with this same aspect ratio such as those taken by the camera phone, would be converted to a square on the pictureflow screen, and then when double tapped to full screen it takes the square preview image and stretch it out to fit the 240 x 320 screen, thus having a stretched appearance.

I did have a try of the latest PF but it didn't work so well for me.

It does look similar to the authentic coverflo but just doesn't feel the same somehow. I think it's partly because there are so few images to the left and right. It still takes way too long to start up on my device.

But great community developing - keep it up!

i'm just wondering about the roadmap here... are you going to perfect pictureflow, then implement it in pocketmelody?

besides that, i think there are some Application fullscreen issues. it's great to add the button to fullscreen a picture (sometimes when i'm viewing, my hands are moving too much so as i can't doubletap correctly, such as when i'm in a car), so thanks for that bottom bar. i'm kinda worried about it taking up precious screen real estate, but the tradeoff is worth it.

also, when i run the app, minimize the app, then reopen it, i can still see the top title bar (the one with the notifications, clock, etc.). dang it's a small bug but it's really annoying seeing the words "PocketFlow" cut in half right there, mocking me about it.

anyway not much else i can ask for, except a quick implementation into PocketMelody! :D ah it's ok, no pressure, your apps are great on their own already.

[edit]
sorry, i seem to end up doing this a lot on all your releases, but i figure you wouldn't know some of the bugs unless the people let you know, lol. so when i press fullscreen, it fullscreens the last picture that was fully in the middle. let me explain that more: ok so you know when you flick through pictures, then it slowly stops on a picture? THAT's the picture that's "in the middle". so if i flick from pictures A to B to C, i see A, i see B, and the flick is slowing down on C. however, as it's slowing down, if i press fullscreen, i fullscreen picture B instead of C, even though C is clearly the picture i'm focusing on (picture C is not yet at rest). i hope that makes sense, just reply or pm if it doesn't.

Haha I totally get what you're saying, it just happened a second ago to me. But i've also just found out it's because the picture has to be set in the front position and isn't still turning as you click full screen. soon as those lines at the top of the image become straight it means it's set for you to use the full screen. I think for me that's the only problem, well and the thumbnail thing which says access denied all the time, but it still works fine, though I didn't copy it into the gfx folder. But I definitely like that there's not so many buttons, as it looks neat, however if there would be any closing option, I think a 'slide finger down the screen' would be awesome. Oh when my s2u2 comes up after the screen goes down, the top 'start menu bar' comes up when you unlock it, and in a way kind of crashes it. pretty much like what was mentioned above.

I know i'm rambling like I have issues with it, but it's totally not the case, as I totally love this pictureflow. It's a lot faster and looks real good :D I don't mind the way the picture doesn't fit the whole screen like previously mentioned. I love it. you got the colours right and everything.

Thumbs up all the way.

Awesomeness

yeah I second that. it doesn't go to full screen coz it can't handle it, and everything just becomes a little slow, loading and sliding wise. seems like the pics have to be way small too.
The pics I have cover the whole screen. is it meant to?

Your app couldn't fullscreen 2mega pixels 1600X1200 picture files?

Ooookay:

The responses I got woke me up to something TERRIBLE i did last night when I was coding 0.7. Maybe it's because I was sleepy, but 0.7 as is, saves all of your full size images in memory, as it loads up PF, to allow for full screen rendering. YIKES this is HORRIBLE!!

I'll be releasing a patch very soon, that will simply save the full file PATH instead. And when you hit fullscreen it will render the image to full the screen, and free up the memory when you close full screen.

I simply couldn't leave you guys with a release that did such a horrible thing. Lol, this was the fault of coding at 2 am.

Working on the quick patch now.....(Will also speed up load time).

It still only scans the PF folder for pictures, but if you apply the hotfix, once it finds a jpeg in that folder, instead of saving the jpeg AND rendering the thumbnail; it renders the thumbnail and saves the LOCATION of the found jpeg, and only renders it, if you hit the button for the fullscreen implementation of the picture.

I hope this makes sense :).

PS: I know I said jpeg above, but the same goes for all other formats.

Heya I'm running a Tytn ii with the hotfix. Haven't got around to trying version 7 without the hotfix but the full picture isn't working for me either - tried it with pics size 60kb and >100kb.

Also it seems to "flow" really slowly sometimes. Is this cos some of the pics are massive (over 1mb)? Should I be decreasing them in size to something like 100kb or should it be able to handle everything?

Great app when it works though ;-)

Initially works using hotfix, using supplied images can go to fullscreen multiple times. Using my images along with your images, will come up, can go fullscreen only once then it really bogs down. Can't go fullscreen again after that.

Using WM6 on TMobile MDA.

thundershadow14
25th January 2008, 03:32 PM
Hmmm, not sure how to tackle this one. It seems like fullscreening is the biggest issue. I suppose I could sample down the images even for full screening, but then zooming might become a problem later on, I'd really like to keep the full resolution pictures when you use full screen.

You guys are aware that the double tap for full screen is disabled right? You HAVE to use the button. Cuz I just find it really strange that on my wizard (probably the weakest of all the devices) everything is so smooth. And I've tested HUGE pictures.

Edit:
Okay, there's only one way to tackle this actually. I've got to abandon QT for full screening your pictures. Clearly, it's method uses too much memory. So, I'll use the same Imaging API that loads up your images so well, to actually give you a full screen image.

BUT: Since full screening your pictures is not a feature used in the album art scrolling in PocketMelody, it will have to wait. Today I officially start the integration of PictureFlow & PocketMelody. Do you guys still want me to opensource this project now?

hmmm where are the buttons? I didn't notice any - do these work on landscape? Will just check again on portrait. I was double tapping the image so probably why it doesn't work  x

ah ha! Found buttons (they only work on portrait - just for your info ;-)) nope fullscreen doesn't work :-( but next and previous buttons do.

Not sure the app works well in landscape to be honest. Will stick with it in portait for now...as it seems to load so much quicker and flows quicker...

do u test on pic >100kb???

yes, up to 120kb with jpeg format, everything ok (button, fullscreen) no problem, but it's too hard with 120kb, i'm recomend max image size is 120kb, cause i've been trying with 220kb, fullscreen not working
are you install PictureFlow 0.7 with Hot Fix?

sorry for my english

Thunderstorm, i works really perfect. I'm so glad that you can only see full screen by tapping the button! This makes me happy.

And this works also really great.

It's really perfect when you can change the folder name of where the picture flow should get his photo's from.

What is your idea with integration it with pocketmelody? Same like the iphone?

What is the first thing that you are going to do right now..

Good luck!

I was wondering. Is the new pocketmelody going to be like Mortplayer, where if you place a jpeg pic in an artists folder and give it the same name as the song, it will show the artists picture? Hopefully you'll get what I mean. would be cool if you could give it the same name as the artist folder and it displays a pic :D

Hi thundershadow14,

I dont know if this was asked before (no search hits for mp3 in this thread), but
I would really love to see PictureFlow being able to parse the album cover images from id3 tags.

If it then could start MediaPlayer (or the default player for the .mp3 files) this would be the perfect solution for me.

I know youre planning on integration with pocketmelody, but this solution would be much more lightweight and hopefully much less work.

Let me know if you need someone as a betatester for this ;-)

I tell you what..Here is what i had done

Step 1: Pictureflow 0.7 did not work even with hotfix
Step 2: I deleted the whole folder and Soft Reset
Step 3: Put the folder 0.7 with hotfix in SD Card
Step 4: It worked
Step 5: When i put 20-30 images in that folder, PF failed again
Step 6: I removed those 20-30 pics and put another 3-4 in the folder
Step 7: It worked smoothly
Step 8: I put back all 20-30 images back but in small lots of 7-8. i.e put 7-8 images and run PF and kept doing it
Step 9: Now it works with all my pics irrespective of size and shape

Note: Its takes 4-5 secs to flash the first screen: "Pictureflow..."
Note: It takes almost 20-24 secs to load the images
Note: Landscape mode: The first splash screen is aligned towards left, full screen does not work properly

I am using HTC Touch P3452 256/128 MB version

Hi all,

My name is Ariya (http://ariya.blogspot.com), the original author of PictureFlow (http://pictureflow.googlecode.com). I follow this thread with interests, the plan is that I'll be working closely with thundershadow14 so that the Windows Mobile version of PictureFlow will rock more than ever.

For the problem with initial loading and memory footprint, check the first step towards this:
http://ariya.blogspot.com/2008/03/introducing-photoflow.html
(http://ariya.blogspot.com/2008/03/introducing-photoflow.html)

Since ATM I don't have Windows Mobile development environment, we must rely on thundershadow14 (or someone else) to provide executable. But rest assured, I will try to push PhotoFlow to become the exciting and mobile-friendly photo viewer.

Comments/feedback/flames/suggestions are warmly welcomed.

Every software that I write until now is free and open source. However, I often don't provide an installer because I do not necessarily have the development tools for a specific platform (in this case, Windows Mobile). But the source code is available for free and will remain free.
