View Full Version : Just For Fun: Dumbest thing you've done with your Kaiser

Thanks to my recent stupidity I just had the idea to make a thread that we might share some of our ridiculously stupid mistakes that we later found out could have been solved by simply thinking things through.
Hopefully this'll help new owners of the phone avoid our mistakes.
My mistake just happened 10 minutes ago, and I'm rather annoyed it happened... oh well... another 4 hours of setting up my Kaiser won't kill me... :(
Anyway, I refuse to carry my Kaiser with me until it is properly protected in its case, so it's just been sitting here around the house while I tamper with it and wait for my case to get here. Consequently, I'm using 2 phones, and I swap the sim card between them.
I turned on my Kaiser and got scared pantsless. It would only stay on for a few seconds, and then turn off. Of course it scared the heck out of me... the phone is only 4 days old. So after soft resetting failed, I resorted to the hard reset... well, apparently something got turned off when I flashed dutty's rom to the phone, and the little screen that reminds you about the sim door being unlocked doesn't come up.
So it turns out my phone was turning off just because the sim door wasn't locked... and now I have the task of installing and re-configuring everything I had on the Kaiser... which I'm about to start now. 4 hours of repeating history here I come!

Bought one. No video drivers FTL.
Besides that....nothing really. just being clueless on how to flash a ROM I guess even though I want to return it because of video drivers!! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO....

Dropped mine (and did not notice) while running across a busy street in downtown Calgary.
It was consequently run over by at least 1 car! I lost the back case, the battery was all banged up, and the power button was permanently pushed in, but guess what....it still turned on and I could make calls!!!! :D:confused:
Anyway, with no insurance, I thought I was up a creek with no paddle. AT&T hooked me up with a new one at 1/2 cost. I guess they heard the pain in my voice when I explained what happened.

last week end i made the stupid mistake of making an infinite loop on my today screen.
i was messing around trying to find a way to hide the VitoFindMe text at the bottom of my today screen, and since SPB Pocket plus (for some reason) didn't hold the plugin, i tried PocketBreeze, it put it in and it worked. so i put PocketPlus as a tab in it also just to get it to how i like, but it didnt allow me to put a personal tab as the default and i didnt need all of the extras, so i turned it off and put SPB back on the today. I decided to try one more time to put FindMe in SPB before i gave up, but i accidentally put PocketBreeze in it, and since PocketBreeze had SPB in it, it basically looped, froze and stopped on trying to boot when reset... so now i had to hard reset and i had to go through the task of putting all of my programs and stuff back on!
Yey what fun.

I accidentally locked my SIM card tryin to set up my keypad lock everytime u take the phone out of sleep mode. I was scared shitless. I could barley even hold the stylus in my hand to try and fix. basically, i had to log in to my wireless account on at&t, found my PUK code and everything was straight after that.

When I first got my Tilt, I kept it plugged in, since I have heard you should fully charge when you first get it. Well, I went to sync it, and it simply would not sync at all. I unplugged it, and replugged it. Still nothing. I checked all cables. Everything was properly hooked up on PC and ppc.
I was so mad, because it just would not work. So, I called ATT tech support. They made me soft reset, hard reset etc.
Finally they said, phone must be broken, they would exchange it for me. While I was waiting for her to do the exchange request (or whatever you call it), I just happened to notice that I had it plugged into the WALL charger, NOT the usb on computer (both cables were sitting right next to each other).
OMG, I felt so dumb, I hung up on AT&T, and had quite a chuckle at my stupidity :D

At first I thought the dumb thing was refusing to carry your phone without a case.

Dumbest thing I did was using it while walking fast inside best buy. I dropped it and happend to land on the toe of my shoes while I happen to take a step. I kicked it about 30-40 feet accross the floor. The phone, battery, and the cover all went 3 directions. Luckily the floor was carpet. No scratches on the phone, reboot still works fine. I WAS PISSED.

People keep saying buying it is the dumbest thing they did but it's not. Keeping it beyond 30 days is the dumbest thing. If you bought it, own it, be proud. If you felt that buying the tilt is the worst mistake you've ever made, you should have returned it within the return period. There are other people from CDMA carriers wish they can get the Tilt.

I was helping someone sheet rock thier basement and i was putting in screws listening to music with my bluetooth headphones while my phone sat a "safe" distance away from the construction area. when i went back over to the table to refill on screws i managed to set the tip of my screwgun firmly into the screen of my tilt. lukily i had the stock screen protector on it and it took the beating no problem :)

less than 20 hours after it arrived at my door (and after i had spent 7 hours tweaking it and sucessfully taken the tmobile and mda logos off the fascia without leaving a mark i had my phone in my pocket when i went to the post office, ironically to pick up a case for it that we had missed delivery of. po was about to close to i jumped out of the car and ran the 10 feet to the door (parked ourside :)). the phone fell out of a hole in my pocket (which between getting out of the car and the phone escaping appeared to enlarge from a hole i couldnt even put my finger through to a hole the size of the phone) down my trouser leg and straight onto the concrete. the battery cover came flying off and i bricked. im sure people were staring but i figured this was the definition of being shat on by god. i screamed and swore. picking it up the casing was a little out of place and obstructing the on/off button and camera button (if you can imagine pulled away a little) some forceful putting it back together and it all works fine, you wouldnt know apart from the only difference is a few light scratches and tiny chunks taken out of the phone. absolutely gutted. still looks alright, but gutted.
gf sewed up the hole in the pocket immediately when we got home. still have no idea how it managed to happen.

Dumbest thing that i've done was to somehow drop the kaiser out of my hand (somehow...), having it fall face down, going to pick it up while losing balance, stepping on it and making it slide like a curling puck 2 metres away.
I was left with a beat up front face, dpad and mingled LCD screen. Still suffering the concequences because i cannot find a TORX #5 screw driver.

I have a wrist strap attached so I can "quick draw" from the side pocket of my pants. While getting out of my truck it snagged the corner of the seat and it came out of my pocket bouncing off my running board and onto the asphalt. I got lucky just a small scuff on the upper LH corner. Very Very lucky!:D

I accidentally switched mine with a bar of soap one morning. The phone held up surprisingly well from the water in the shower. The bigger problem was, for the rest of the day, when someone called me, I ended up with a soapy ear.

I was making a custom made desk mount for the kaiser. I placed the kaiser on the piece of board and put in nails as markers . the phone rang, I left the electric saw running while I tried looking for it (very noisy at that time). I grawled under the side of the saw table. It was then I realized that I placed the phone on the board. I got up, bumped the side of the board and sawed it in half.

the roof of my two story house was leaking, so I went up there with my ladder. The phone slipped out of my pocket, landed face down on the roof and slit all the way down!! luckily the it landed in the gutter (just barely) but unfortunately the whole front side got scratched up really bad. I think if it landed on the back side, it might not have slid down the roof since it was rubberized. oh well... at least it didn't break :)

Just a little advise, dont try to make a new high score, if you do, she will spend hours just to beat you.

AH YES, the STUPID BUBBLE BREAKING GAME, my GF loves it too, i can't stand it, although she did get like 1800 at one time for the highest score, and i can't get over 1100.....well, the touch screen must be a fascination to her and now she got herself a new SonyEricsson P1 instead of her old Nokia phone.

Yes, it has to be the touch screen. She is still knocking into it like a woodpecker. I hate that.

Dumbest thing I did was something most would not think of...
I bought the Stock HTC TyTynII that comes with a verlcro suede beltholder and thought my my original TyTyn pouch with magnetic clasp was much better so I used it!!
Kept wondering for a few days why my battery was low and the phone was nearly always on when I pulled it out of the pouch.
THEN I realised the Slide on the phone uses a magnetic sensor and everytime I opened the pouch (or maybe just moved a little) the phone turned on!!!
No wonder they had gone to velcro....
No magnets near your phone mates if you use STU2 enabled!!! or the basic ROM...:o

Slightly different - my dumbest mistake was telling madam the the Vario had the same bubble breaker game as was on my old MDA Compact II.
If I'd have kept quiet about it, she'd be none the wiser.
Now when we're sat at the table or whatever, she looks at me and says "Can I play bubbles?"

Well it is a good game and I don't think it's a stupid move for the Kaiser as....
That is not a phone problem.... that is whether you are boring her or she is boring you (dependant! on the who playing first bit!!) :p:p:p

The stupidest thing I did was I was at the YMCA pool sitting on the bench checking out the girls swimming. The jerk lifeguard was talking to another female and didnt realize someone was drowning so my good samaritan self jumps in to save the poor kid and I forgot my phone was in my shorts pocket. I realized it when I go out and dried myself off. Have to take a life to save one.

I guess the most common mistake would be dropping it.
When I drive I usually take my phone out of its belt holster and set it in my lap so I can access it easily with one hand. Well, when I step out of the car with the phone still in my lap gravity has its way and ravages my phone. All in all....I've decided to not put the phone in my lap anymore. I used to do it with my old phone, (moto SLVR), but not with this baby. The SLVR was all metal and I didn't really care about it....but my Kaiser/TyTnII/Tilt is my baby....I call her Le'nore!
I'm kidding...I don't call her Le'nore.

#1 Buying one without seeing how utterly useless the camera is.
#2 Not reading the fine print and seeing 30 days started from the ORDER date and not the receive or ship date (it took AT&T 2 weeks to ship mine).
#3 Not returning it within the 30 day limit and buying a Nokia N95. Or going back to my TyTN I.

BTW, to all of you phone droppers...
Best case, hands down, is the BoxWave Active Case. ( http://www.boxwave.com ). It only adds a small amount of bulk to the phone, and protects all of the corners. It snaps on and locks on -- it's actually pretty much impossible to get it off without breaking it (which might be a problem -- I'm glad they moved the SIM slot). The only disadvantage is I can't swap batteries.
I've dropped my Tilt a few times, and it's scuffed up the case, but the phone is pristine.

Slightly off the topic,
I've looked after my Kaiser (XDA Stellar) like a baby so far. I just can bring my self to damage the Beautiful brushed aluminium.
But my wizard was dropped, thrown and bashed to pieces, the last two months of it's life the sylus just dropped out of it's holder, all of the buttons had been rubbed off and paint was flaking off it.
But the phone still worked perfectly.

Dropped my 8525 In in the bathroom sink only for it to bounce in the toilet that was next to it. Miraculously I took out the battery, dried it and it worked fine. It was only about a week later that I dropped it and the keys did not work. RIP Then It was tilt time.

I just spoke to a former co-worker who had just purchased a new ATT Tilt for the head of operations to test out. Apparently, the first weekend he had it he took it to a Monster Truck show with his young son. His son asked if he could use it to take a picture of the show, he obliged his son, and it slipped and fell out of his son's hand into a large cup of soda. Needless to say, it was fried and not covered under warranty.

You mean that sometimes it didn't notice tapping so you had to tap twice?
I had the same problem with mine and I noticed that this problem went away when I switched off most audio (like tapping sounds).
