A Word from the Author:
Hi Guys,
I hope you will enjoy using this software. For the young budding software developers who need to be pointed in the right direction. Note that this cube uses the following API's :
- MAPI
- TAPI
- POOM Both C++ and C#
- EdgeLib Framework
I used MSDN2 examples and many internet articles to become more familiar with C++. I also referred to the Edgelib Library Reference to make the most use of it. The cube is made of 5 3D Models, NOT 1. Each face is a 3D Model and they all move in unison to appear as a solid cube. If I hadn't mentioned that you would have never known the visual difference. Each face has 4 vertices and is made of 2 polygons each. The polygons are made up buy 3 vertices. Using the Normals will determine in which direction the 3D Model menu will face...ie. outside the cube or inside. I created a GIANORMOUS Input function that detects screen swipes and screen taps. When dealing with different modules like accessing contacts numbers I made sure that they were in their own function to reduce code ambiguity.
This program took 1 month to make from start to finish and contains over 3000 lines of code....not your typical hello world app hey?...lolol.
Best wishes to all that supported the project and hope to wow you again soon!

Know Issues:
Bugs Found:
Background Picture bleeding on some applications that open.
The WHOLE SCLPC++ Folder MUST be placed here : /Application Data/SCLPC++ or adding a contact WILL NOT WORK!
Because of an absolute path in the cube it must be stored on the device not on a SD card....although you can configure it on the Device then transfer it to your SD card and it has been reported to work this way.
Start Menu disappears when a program is not specified in the ProgramList.ini i.e. MainAppPath1 = "" (BUG FIXED)
Contact Pics only show a partly filled contact face button when choosing a contact that has an Outlook contact picture....contact contact...lolol. (BUG FIXED)
Can't easily specify to open a specific folder to open in file explorer using the cube. (BUG FIXED)
Slight size/scalse distortion on the first and last frame of ALL animations. (BUG FIXED)
Rotation Animation starts after the cube zooms out. (BUG FIXED)
SCLPC++ opens up multiple instances of itself on some devices. Please post which devices guys.
Still Left ToDo:
Compile this with the Full Edgelib Library!!!
Supported Devices List:
Wizard G3
Hermes
Trinity / HTC 3600
HTC 3600i (my device) WM6
Kaiser with WM6.1
Atom O2 Flame WM5 & WM6

Hey Slither, I see you're at it again. Could you give us some idea how this Cube will be different/comparable to the HTC Cube by Kona_mtbkr, or the advantages/disadvantages of this cube over your flash cube?

This is not to answer your questions I would just want to outline what seem to work on mine and join you in asking for clarification.
I saw it as a Demo and the only functions it allows me is open/close/minimize/rotate.
I am guessing that without an available .INI/.Txt or ConfigTool there is no way to get it to do other stuff right?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your support!!!! At the moment the cube will NOT open or launch any programs. However I will update this very shortly as I also want to make this cube more usable quickly. So far the SCLPC++ beta 0-01 is just to show you the power and speed I'm getting from EdgeLib's framework and to hopefully convince guys that it is worth the donation.
HTC Cube Original (Kona's version) Vs. SCLPF Vs. SCLPC++
I'll first start with :
Similarities
Animations are identical (SCLPF has a few more)
Functionality is identical (SCLPF has additional functionality)
Speed
SCLPF and HTC Original is slower than SCLPC++ with rotation animation
SCLPF must load from Flash Player and have Flash Player running in the background
SCLPC++ takes 2 secs on a 400 /500mhz device to load
SCLPC++ minimize and restore are INSTANT
SCLPC++ animations are INCREDIBLY SMOOTH AND FAST! So fast I had to cut the framerate to half down to 30fps.
HTC Original Cube is instant on open animation
Stability & Compatibility
SCLPC++ is compatible on WM2003, WM05, WM06
SCLPF is compatible on WM05, WM06
HTC Cube is compatible on WM05, WM06 (not sure of WM2003)
SCLPC++ will be close as close to 99.9% stable as I can get it
SCLPF is 99% stable provided some assumptions are made regarding the device it is installed on.
HTC Original Cube input detection can be bad some times.
Eye Candy
All interfaces are nearly identical except for SCLPF which has more menus
HTC Original Cube has a fade in and out effect over the top of the today screen
SCLPC++ will have some additional eye candy depending on EdgeLib's forum support
Features
SCLPF has 2 additional menus and it's own Confuration Application plus many more!
SCLPC++ will try to stay true to the HTC Cube's original features.
HTC Cube has it's own Configuration Settings and an Audio Manager Plugin
Conclusion
SCLPF has many useful features but lacks speed due to the fact it runs off the Flash Lite Player 2.1 which also provides many programming boundaries.
HTC Cube Original is useful but is marginally slower on high powered devices.
SCLPC++ Will be faster than all cubes and will hopefully be as close a clone to the HTC Cube Original.

Hey all,
I'm certainly impressed by this demo, esp with its speed and smoothness. I've recently looked at a touch dual and demo'd the original cube and it was very good.
I don't know why no one mentions this, but I am sure the HTC Cube by Kona_mtbkr is alot slower and chuggier than the original cube?
This one is very good perfect and is as fast as the original...
Slither2006
10th January 2008, 05:36 AM
Hi tsaurus!
Thanks for your results! I have also heard from another user say that the HTC Dual's cube ran fast as well. When I tested the Kona cube I was impressed it was hacked to work on all devices but very dissappointed in the speed. I'm definitely happy with the SCLPC++ speed.
Hi Guys,
Here's a breakthrough, for me anyway, since I'm new to C++ PPC programming I have found how to execute a program from within your program. This means i will get all buttons launching programs VERY SOON!! :D I first want to create a buttons class that will keep track of each menus button characteristics or properties.
Since this is a community I am happy to share the code that launches another program from within C++ :
//This is a ShellExecute Information structure object, it holds
//the path of the file to execute and other options/parameters
//declare this as a member variable of your class.
SHELLEXECUTEINFO ShExecInfo;
//Now place this following code either in your Initialization
//part of your code (when it first starts).
//Just change the lpFile and lpDirectory object variables to change
//which program you wish to start or in your function.
ShExecInfo.cbSize = sizeof(SHELLEXECUTEINFO);
ShExecInfo.fMask = NULL;
ShExecInfo.hwnd = NULL;
ShExecInfo.lpVerb = NULL;
ShExecInfo.lpFile = _T("BubbleBreaker.exe");
ShExecInfo.lpParameters = NULL;
ShExecInfo.lpDirectory = _T("/Windows/");
ShExecInfo.nShow = SW_MAXIMIZE;
ShExecInfo.hInstApp = NULL;
//Place this in response to a user input/function/event etc....
void SlithersClass::MyFunction(void)
{
ShellExecuteEx(&ShExecInfo);
}
I wrote this example myself and it will open Bubble breaker once the "ShellExecuteEx(&ShExecInfo);" function is called. This can be very useful for those who wish to make their own GUI launchers.
Update soon!

Being built in C++ will SCLPC have a configurable apps page, will there be an option for more pages than the original 3 (or 4) I know with SCLPF you had be considering the option of essentially unlimited pages (status pages, additonal contacts etc), is this possible with C++ (even a 4 app page would be great though). Anyway keep up the great work Slither!

Hey Aaron,
With SCLPC++ it loads the PNG file of all the required animations on startup. Minimze and Restore doesn't load or unload this png(although I'll try and get it to in the future to reduce memory consumption when minimized)....This is the main reason for the 2.28mb memory overhead. I'm thinking of splitting the PNG into 3 strips of animations. i.e. one for Main one for Music and one for contacts. I would then only load the Music one when the cube loads up. When the user slides left or right I'd get it to unload the music png and load the appropriate png and start the animation. If this dynamic loading of menus and animations works good on slow devices then yes unlimited menus is definitely a possibility. I will definitely make a fourth menu page but this time I will wait until the the 3 sided version is finished first as i know there are a lot of patriots for the classic version. After the 4th menu page I'll make a today screen that looks identical to the Home plugin but without the Taskbar or Softkey bars. This way when you open the cube you will be able to slide to the today screen and just leave it there without having to close the cube...this will not only remove the need for having FTouchFlo start up the cube but would allow me to apply future today screen to the updown motion when in the cube so you don't have to rotate to the today screen....my thoughts are a bit jumbled but the end result is a less fiddley interface...lolol. The project may be finished sooner than I thought...lolol

Slither,
I love your idea to make one of the faces of the cube be the Today screen! Will you have it load any plugin? or just HTC Home? If its just HTC Home, that would still be really sweet!
Absolutely brilliant idea. I'd have the cube running all the time and that would be great. I'm going to make a donation.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for you support. I was thinking of coding the today screen from the ground up so you won't need to install the HTC Home add-on.
Hi Guys,
The button functionality will be done soon. I have to find a way to convert a char which is read in from the ini file to be a LPCTSTR that can be accepted as a ShellExecuteInfo lp parameter. Once that is done I can fit the buttons out properly.

More Tech Talk,
There is no problem getting the buttons to launch programs, the problem I have at the moment is that when I read the ProgramList.ini file(ANSI text file that contains the programs you want it to launch) the contents of the file goes into char variables. Unfortunately a char variable is a Multi-byte type and the ShellExecuteEx requries parameters that are UniCode type. I found the _T(x); macro works in converting a wchar_t but only when the char is declared in the code (hardcoded) not loaded while the program is running. I'm at work right now so I should have plenty of time to work this out...lolol

Hi s2d,
My Visual Studio 2005 died so I'm repairing/re-installing right now. however I think I may have found a solution to my earlier dilemma.
Code Solution :
char myChar[] = "BubbleBreaker.exe"
std::string myString(13, myChar);
ShellExecuteInfo.lpFile = _T(myString.c_str());
I haven't tried the code above as I've been waiting an hour for VS2005 to repair...shouldn't be much longer I hope.
Also I got a response back from EdgeLib support and they gave me the Framework variable that copies the Today Screen to the programs display buffer...so a screen capture function in other words....they also have what is called a EWIPE::Blend effect which will allow me to blend the display buffer and any surface created from a picture from one into the other....hence the fade in and out effect I was hoping to create with the Today Screen as the background and the cube as the foreground. It will be tricky but will look pretty slick if I can get it working. Plus this is a valuable special affect for WM.

Hey Slither,
I ran into this same problem when I was in the early developmental stages of pocketmelody. Infact, the win32 lib has a function that I use to get the job done for me, and I use it throughout the app now.
int MultiByteToWideChar(
UINT CodePage,
DWORD dwFlags,
LPCSTR lpMultiByteStr,
int cbMultiByte,
LPWSTR lpWideCharStr,
int cchWideChar
);
Here's the msdn docs that explains all the parameters etc.

Hope this helps :).

Hi thundershadow14!
I noticed that function mentioned in a few forums I was looking at before but didn't think much of it at the time. I'll definitely check it out now. Thanks Mate! I really appreciate it!
[Edit:] Ok I checked it out and it ran perfectly. Here is the code :
//Two char variables are declared and initialised
char cFile[] = "BubbleBreaker.exe";
char cDir[] = "/Windows/";
//A pointer to each char is created.
char *lpcStrFile = cFile;
char *lpcStrDir = cDir;
//Two empty widechar pointers are created and thier length is set to the length of the char
//string they will hold
LPWSTR lpwStrFile = SysAllocStringLen(NULL, strlen(cFile));
LPWSTR lpwStrDir = SysAllocStringLen(NULL, strlen(cDir));
//This function then copies char pointer and converts it to a unicode char
//pointer (wide char pointer). The wide char pointer now points to the
//original char memory location...well that's my take on it....hope that's
//not too confusing...lolol.
MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, 0, lpcStrFile, strlen(cFile), lpwStrFile, strlen(cFile));
MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, 0, lpcStrDir, strlen(cDir), lpwStrDir, strlen(cDir));
I've been working on this simple bit of code from 10am til now....3pm! Your insight was very valuable thundershadow14! Thanks heaps mate!!! :D

Hello Startos74,
That will come soon in version 0-02.
Hi Guys,
Update :
So far I can successfully launch a program listed in a ProgramList.ini file (txt file) successfully. The only BIG issue is that it doesn't like launching lnks. I'll have to find a way to list all program executable files in a list...but for the meantime you will be able to customize the buttons provided you place the contents of your link file in ProgramsList.ini file....sounds a little tricky for newcomers I know but so far this is a proof of concept that SCLPC++ is possible. I will find a fix for this. Beta 0-02 will come soon with BASIC button functionality.

Thanks for the answer, so is not a problem of my trinity
btw... VERY VERY NICE JOB, incredibily fast!!!

Hi furiardy,
Download the zip file.
Open it on your computer or phone.
Copy the two files anywhere on your device
Run the exe file.
If you wish to start the exe by swiping your finger up then install FTouchFlo and the configurator for it.
Then configure FTouchFlo to open my exe file.
Enjoy! :)

To those of you who have not yet donated, please consider doing such now.
By donating, you are subsidizing the development of this program. Just look at the cost that he needs to come up with to get this thing going! On top of that, our donations add up to only a pittance of what Slither's time is actually worth.
This is the first time that I have ever paid for software before it was released. That says a lot since I am the one usually looking for freeware. :rolleyes:
Slither has proven his worth on the development of the prior Cube. He is probably the most generous and communicative developer I have ever seen. He answers our questions several times a day, yet he asks for almost nothing in return.

I have a (hopefully minor) feature request: Would it be possible to make the cube's opening face a user-configurable option? I find myself using the other faces more than the Pictures/Music/Video face. I know with the flash version you can change FTouchFlo to start a different .swf, but then the animations are a bit off...
Thanks,

Hi Slither2006,
Have you fix your launching of links issue? In my former Job I was part of a team that wrote a lockdown replacement shell for Windows XP. I will might be able to answer most shell questions. I know some of the APIs for PPC are different.

noob alert!
Just curious with the talk...TODAY SCREEN?
I am currently running Wisbar desktop as my "today page" because of some issues i take with the today page... Mostly i HATE the tiny start menu button. Thought some customization of that may be welcomed. Plus everything else up there seems kinda redundant with Home.
Anyway, sent out my donation earlier, wasn't much but hope it helps.

Hey Guys,
Cheers for the good words! :)
I believe it is more than possible to make startup animation configurable although it will take a little time.
As for the launching of buttons the code I use to run a program is ShellExecuteEx which gets the info of the program to run from a ShellExectureInfo structure. I have tried everything so far and can't seem to get it to execute ANY link files as it says the file can't be found??....I can however execute anthing else fine :( JohnPaul any advice right now would be welcome:)
I'm using this project experience as a way to kickstart a big learning curve for myself and will hopefully be able to use the knowledge to create something incredible one day in the same way that PointUi has impacted the PDA owning community.
I have coded the Music Page buttons AND THE BUTTON PRESS IMAGES TOO!!! :D And they look MAGNIFICENT!!! The buttons launch the program that YOU set in the ProgramsList.ini file which is just a listing of directories and exe files NOTHING ELSE
I'll get started on the other menu buttons and will release 0-02 then I'll work on the contact calling buttons....still more work to do after that also.
Update soon!

Just thinking (maybe I shouldn't) so what if you write a configuration script to say update the ini with the users' custom choice(s) rather then launch the links?

Hey s2d,
I'll try and implement something similar to that when I start the config app. So far I've found another way to launch a program and have the cube remain open in the background. Currently ShellexecuteEx was closing the cube after it launched a program. It works 99% ok at the moment using the CreateProcess function instead.

[Edit :] There appears to be issues with certain links like Internet Explorer (21#:MSPIE). I'm not sure what it could be but directly referencing the path /Windows/iexplore.exe works fine.

Hi BoBo,
I've nearly finished the Beat 0-02. It will have some features the SCLPF never had.
New only to SCLPC++
- Text can be changed on EVERY MENU!
- Text can be positioned ANYWHERE!!!
- All this is done by editing a file called "TextList.ini"
Other Features added
- All Buttons except contact face buttons work
- Buttons can be configured by editing a file called "ProgramList.ini"
Todo to add to my list
- Create a Tahoma font map sheet.
It's 4am here I better get some sleep. I'll release the beta 0-02 once I have done a decent font map in 18pt and 14pt.
Update soon! :)

oh my god fast.
Just a few things to keep in mind
1) When you select a button it lags a bit (has to open the program obviously), you can see some blue outline on the white text (when you press a button)
2) When I open cube, select "videos" or something, WMP opens up. I then click on the cube app in the task bar and when it switches back to cube, the Music button is white (because you are actually pressing it, it's 'underneith' the start button/task bar. Then what happens is you sort of get caught in a loop because you end up opening lots of music apps when you try and press the x button on WMP, you are actually pressing the "Music" cube link AGAIN.. haha, I have a bunch of them open!
Not sure if any of these matter for future releases or not, especially # 2. but just my input.
otherwise, the programlist and text files are great and easy to edit, i like easy config files
Slither2006
13th January 2008, 10:20 AM
Hi Briggs81,
Thanks for testing!
As for one 1) That's no problem. I actuallay set the delay manually as it ran too fast on my device but I can find a sweet spot that we can both agree on...lolol
And for 2) I don't use the taskbar to switch between apps but will keep in mind the scenario you describe. It will take a little tinkering. The reasoning for it is that I believe when the Cube opens a program the Cube is classed as the parent and the program it launched is the child process. I'll have to ensure the parent process is set at a proper ready state independent of what state the child is in....if that makes sense...lolol
I'm glad you like the programlist and textlist files. I will make a contactlist.ini quite soon.

But, if I customize the ProgramList.ini I can't open any program!
"The file xxx cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
The *.ini looks like that:

MusicDir2 ="\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\"
MusicFile2 ="Photo Viewer Pro.ink"
MusicDir3 ="\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\"

I have not tried the program yet (just woke up), but I think if it uses the same PNP based Icon strip you could open it in a graphics program and recolour the icons, of course there might be separate color states for up/down/pressed movements.

Remove all previous intonations of SCLPC
remove all Gestures assignment in FTouchFlo
Disable FtouchFlo (obviously I will not be able to rise the Cube after minimization(s) or from a Cold start, but I have a Button.)
No Custom Configuration yet just the basic supplied SCLPC++ 0.02
I made a folder on my PC
dumped the content of the unzipped file into it
dragged it to the \Program Files\Storage Card of my PPC
made a ShortCut from SCLPC++ 0.02.exe
renamed it
dumped it in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
copy same ShortCut
dumped it in \Windows\Start Up
settings Button
assigned Button 3 to same ShortCut
Rest and Walhalla
Started up with the Cube (but any PPC Hard Button depressed dismissed the Cube)
Could recall the Cube with assigned Button.
Rotate/Minimize/Launch the previously Configured Stuff.
Obviously my method created some drag on memory after multiple launchings the Music Player loaded slower.
Overall looks good, leaves enough edge for us to fuss over, a nice tool to play with, might cause more of us not to throw our HTC PPC in the junk pile out of boredom.

This cube version could actually make the cube more useful. I know for my setup, it takes 2-3 clicks (depending on howi am holding my tytn II), even wit quick app launchers or today screen quick links. 2 swipes with my thumb is alost faster then two clicks on the device/screen especially with lag tim between clicking, so i can defenitly see myself using this more, especially for favorites (I hope he incorporates his flash cube contact sides into this one, those were amazing). The cube rotation is frigging fast.
I have so many quick menus and launchers its ridiculous!

Hi absolUtmagnitUd, (Corrupt zip file)
Sounds like a browser issue. You may need to clear your temporary interenet files or save to another location on your computer.
Hi fga, (No D-Pad roataion support)
That's easy to fix I'll implement the D-Pad on the Beta 0-03 release.
Hi TacoLoc, (Can't open a program using inks)
I noticed your Link files have the extension ".ink" mine use ".lnk" also note that not all Link files will work. It's better to make your own and in my ProgramList.ini file place their location their. i.e
MusicDir1 ="\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\My Links\\"
MusicFile1 ="MyLinkNumber1.lnk"
MusicDir2 ="\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\My Links\\"
MusicFile2 ="MyLinkNumber2.lnk"
MusicDir3 ="\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\My Links\\"
MusicFile3 ="MyLinkNumber3.lnk"
Hi abdelamine, (Backlight turns off when cube starts)
I'll investigate this for you and hopefully have it fixed on the next release.
Hi zigg, (Love this software...lolol)
I enjoy making it as much as you guys enjoy using it! :)
Hi briggs81, (I Want the Call/SMS/Email and Mobile/Work/Home feature)
I'll see what I can do but so far I have found that dynamically loading the images is a little slow so I will still implement the extra menu functionality for you guys with the Call/SMS/Email and Mobile/Work/Home faces but instead I'll make them sliding as this requries less memory to hold the menus.
Hi lifeisfun, (Can't download from rapidshare)
My appologies for rapidshare...suggest a file host that is free and accessable for you and I'll upload there as well.
Hi prootc1, (Trouble installing FTouchFlo)
Don't worry about FtouchFlo...follow the instructions that Sim2Dread used a few posts above as he didn't use FTouchFlo instead he assigned it to a button. If you still wish to get this working with FTouchFlo I'd recommend you check out efrosts thread and even donated to him when you get it working. Oh also one of my best friends is portugese so I'll get him to translate for you if possible.
Hope this answers your questions.

Hi Guys,
I just finished the transparency fade in and out effects for the cube and I have to say they look unreal!!!!
I'll move onto making a phone call in C++ and then managing POOM in C++. I'll try to keep the configuration simple so that there won't be a need for a configuration application. It will take too much time to create a decent configuration application so I'll leave it for later....anyway I'm sure someone eager like me will make a config app if I keep the ini files simple.

Cool!
Schap is also close to releasing another ROM.
Honestly I don't know if there is a better combination Schap's ROM and Your Cube Apps. I have never tried any others. I am a complete neophyte to Modern Cell Phones, I was forced to get one by my GF last year and was lucky to have run into this site. So I have not really paid my dues as a pioneer, but I consider myself fortunate because the road was paved so to speak and was made easier for me to traverse.
Even now to me, my device is really only a very hi-tech Multimedia Player, which just happens to have a phone.
So keep on Rocking!

Hi s2d,
I've figured out how to call a number in c++....but I left my project files at work!!!!NOOOO!....anywho...I'll have to just code some proof of concepts and then implement them into my project files at work....I could recode everything but I did a crap load today addressing the issues people have mentioned and adding the transparency fade in and out.
Just so you know when it starts calling the number it calls INSTANTLY NO DELAY!!!
This just leaves getting the POOM functionality working and then cabbing the project and it's done. Damn I've made 10x more progress doing this in C++ than I ever did in C# and Flash although I'm happy I made SCLPF anyway.
I have a better understanding of C++ now and a pretty good understanding of POOM so it shouldn't be long til you see a fully functional SCLPC++ 1-00 release.

Hi Guys,
I will upload them tomorrow as I left my latest project version at work. It will include D-Pad direction rotation and fade in fade out transparency effects. It's weird, it doesn't feel like the htc cube....it's hard to explain...when using the slow htc cube original(kona's) and my SCLPF I have always been used to a slight micro pause here and there but with this its freakishly smooth....plus now with the fade in and fade out it doesn't feel like a program but rather an extension of the Windows Mobile operating system.

I'm hopelessly hooked to WM6, but Windows Mobile has just a small part of the mobile market.
Symbian still rules the tri-band waves and Linux shows fast growing popularity. I see that Edgelib is fully platform-independant, so I advice you to release cube clones for these OS's as well.

Hi Maggy,
I agree Symbian is pretty amazing...I checked out their screen play. I'll see how far I get with WM programming first then consider symbian...it's like the difference between windows and linux to me...plus I don't have a symbian device to test with...I could use a symbian emulator but it's not fun to program with.

Hi Maggy,
I agree Symbian is pretty amazing...I checked out their screen play. I'll see how far I get with WM programming first then consider symbian...it's like the difference between windows and linux to me...plus I don't have a symbian device to test with...I could use a symbian emulator but it's not fun to program with.
I'll see what happens in the future.
Heya!
First thanks for the waiting animation! :)
Are you going to make a 4th side for this cube too? I realy like that app launcher what you have in the flash version.
Also email and sms application looks cool, will you implement these, or relese the sms and email application as an independent program? It would be fantastic even if you do an independent email, sms program with feature to select contact (so you can use the email,sms program to write to those guys and lads who not fit on the contact side of the cube). You already wrote it in flash, make it independent from the flash cube, so we can use it in your new cube too! Hell, i can wait some seconds till its load up, it looks freaking awsome. The only thing which have to be fast is the cube itself.

I've read right through and can't seem to find what i am looking for, is there any way to get a change to the INI files to be automatically read without a soft reset? Not a biggie but on a Trinity there is a tendency for an alternate SIP to not get picked up. I use a T9 pad and sometimes it takes three soft resets for it to become the active one.

Haha! You can change your sip in settings m8! Btw you have to set it after every soft reset because it forgets the setting.

Hi Guys,
Multiple lanuguages is possible but takes a while to create the font bitmap. It was mentioned previously about a blue tinge to the fonts only when the button is pressed. Don't worry I'll sort this out and make it perfect. That change will come in SCLPC++ 0-04.
I'm at work now so I will polish up 0-03 a little and then upload in a few hours. I'm going to release a 3 sided version of this cube first and then will consider a fourth side.
Update soon! :)

Wow, I'm impressed. Thats really fast and smooth. Lovely work Slither!
Once I remembered to remove all my previous settings from fTouchflo it all ran beautifully!
And the control is just incredible - a small quick swipe across the screen and the cube rotates so naturally.
Count me in for a donation of 20quid (but not until payday im afraid) tehe

Slither, this is blazing in terms of development compared to what you could do in developing SCLPF. Can't wait till it's all finished and I can install it to run on my phone along with PointUI. Both of these systems and S2U2 = No need for anything else, especially the Today screen.

Remove all previous intonations of SCLPC
remove all Gestures assignment in FTouchFlo
Disable FtouchFlo (obviously I will not be able to rise the Cube after minimization(s) or from a Cold start, but I have a Button.)
No Custom Configuration yet just the basic supplied SCLPC++ 0.02
I made a folder on my PC
dumped the content of the unzipped file into it
dragged it to the \Storage Card\Program Files of my PPC
made a ShortCut from SCLPC++ 0.02.exe
renamed it
dumped it in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
copy same ShortCut
dumped it in \Windows\Start Up
settings Button
assigned Button 3 to same ShortCut
Rest and Walhalla
Started up with the Cube (but any PPC Hard Button depressed dismissed the Cube)
Could recall the Cube with assigned Button.
Rotate/Minimize/Launch the previously Configured Stuff.
Obviously my method created some drag on memory after multiple launchings the Music Player loaded slower.
Overall looks good, leaves enough edge for us to fuss over, a nice tool to play with, might cause more of us not to throw our HTC PPC in the junk pile out of boredom.
Must say wow!
As above if you are considering Fresh Start:
I did not try any Custom Config
Since I was upgrading I merely removed the ShortCut from StartUp
copy unzipped files into:\Storage Card\Program Files\sclpc (the folder I created to hold the contents of the previous version)
in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
copy ShortCut: to SCLPC++
dumped it in \Windows\StartUp
Configure FTouchFlo to invoke SCLPC++ by Gestures
Reboot
D-Pad Left/Right Spins Cube
D-Pad Down End/Minimize Cube
D-Pad Up does nothing.
Hermes 100/Cingular 8525
Start Menu Program Button does nothing when you are on a Cube Face
Scroll Wheel End/Minimize Cube
When Cube is Minimize Start Menu Button and Scroll Wheel acts normal
Center Button in D-Pad End/Minimize Cube
Would like to see:
End Call Button End/Minimize Cube
Or Button Above/End Button End/Minimize Cube
Up/Down D-Pad and or Scroll Wheel Traverse the Cube Face and Center Button in D-Pad activate the Choice.

Slither,
Beautiful work. Very speedy and elegant. I really like having use of the D-pad now. Looking forward to 0-04 when I can really put this sucker to use.
Questions:
Will the contacts be one-touch dialing, or will it be like SCLPF (additional screens to choose call, SMS, etc., followed by the selection of which number)? Would it be in the realm of possibilities to choose between the two for each contact (some are one touch, some give options)?
I know you have a lot to do right now, but I want to stress the importance of a 4th cube face. This allows me to use your cube as a true launcher.
With SCLPF, I only need my Today screen to check how many email messages, or see the time. Would it ever be possible to have a dynamic face that would show the time or email/message count? I'm guessing "no."
With SCLPF, I had the problem of not seeing notification pop-ups while the cube was operating. Can you arrange for bringing notifications to the front (obviously, for a later release)?

This is ridiculous. i think you've done some sort of witch craft because this is far to smooth and fast to be developed so quickly.
I can't get over how fast it is, and i can't get over how i like directionl key cub navigation. I guess it's because i'm all about having as many ways as possible to navigate my device, so this is another one. Wow, amazing.
Here's an unrealistic suggestion for you, make the home screen a side of the cube :P haha.
Because this is so fast, and assuming it stays relatively fast, this might be my main form of navigation because there is barely any delay with cube face changing.
gold!

The D-Pad controls are working correctly for me: Push Left brings up the Left screen (cube spins Right); Push Right brings up the Right screen (cube spins Left). That seems logical.
I almost wish the fade out was just the tiniest bit slower (so I can appreciate it more). It fades out so fast, I can't see it (using a Tilt WM06 with original Rom).

Hi Pawel062,
Take you time mate.
Hi GalenMD,
I'll try and slow the open and close animations slightly. The upcoming today screen will be accessed in a unique way (Touch Intuitively). I prefer the left right swaped so they rotate the cube in the direction you pressed not the screen side that should show.
Hi Briggs,
This is the reason I chose Edgelib as it helped me get the groundwork laid real quick for the cube....now I'm just adding minor features until it's finished. I might reuse parts of the SCLPF C# code as accessing Contact information is much easier in .Net......I'm still tossing up which way i go. I would prefer to keep it all in C++ so I'll have another crack at it. The dilemma is that there is no ChooseContactDialog in C++ POOM, I'd have to create it from scratch. I'll try and combine the C++ and C# without causing too much fuss.
Update :
Fixed Backlight turning off
I've slowed down the open and close animations to 20fps and set the rotation animations to 30fps like before.

I've got just one question that bothers me the most. In SCLPF when you click on a contact - what you have next is that animated menu with options to CALL or to SEND SMS or EMAIL, and then there is that nice SMS MENU which I love.
What would it be like in SCLPC when you click on a contact ? You just straight dial the number and go to the standard dial pad ?
Anyway great work !

Hi appleton,
At this stage to keep it simple and finish it soon I've decided to stay true to the original. I keep the contact face a one-touch call button. I'll see if it's possible to add the Email/SMS/Call in the future.
One thing I have discovered with POOM is that there is a difference in POOM for WM2003 and WM05 & WM06. There are no contact pictures associated with a contact in WM2003. In WM05 & WM06 this isn't a problem. I'll see if I can find a work around for this.

Hi Guys,
I've read your posts and am trying to address the issues for you. Just as an update....I've successfully read in 9 contact Id's from a ContactList.ini file I made and can call the mobile phone numbers to whom the Contact ID belongs to.
ie. in the ContactList.ini it might have :
ContactID1 = "-2147483581"
The program reads it in and says hey that's "Tom". Then it goes, "Find Tom's Number and call it"....this is the best approach as it allows you to update Tom's number without having to reconfigure your cube at all. Best thing is, is that it's all done in C++!!! No other language so far!!! :) Speed is still the same.
I'll try and accomodate for the portrait / landscape bug some users have mentioned. Instead of setting it locked to portrait I'll try and detect the orientation and figure it out after that.
Update soon!
P.S I sent you a copy ^^RAC.

Just loaded version 03 and I can't believe how flawlessly it runs. Your flash version used to hang at one screen occasionally, but no matter how many times I rotate the c++ cube, it's flawless. Haven't had time to configure the program or text ini's yet, but very impressive so far. Have you figured out how to include the today screen as a side of the cube yet, or is that even possible? Look forward to the next release.

I don't think these are properly "repeat questions" These are reports of phenomina occuring on different installations. Obviously, the program is working flawlessly on some devices and not on others. Mabe if Sliver receives enough reports from different types of devices, he will be able to see a common pattern in the ones that aren't working.

I don't think these are properly "repeat questions" These are reports of phenomina occuring on different installations. Obviously, the program is working flawlessly on some devices and not on others. Mabe if Sliver receives enough reports from different types of devices, he will be able to see a common pattern in the ones that aren't working.
Thanks for the reply.
I do understand the importance of beta releasing of applications for public testing to uncover bugs or reveal patterns of problems. I am a developer of web applications so I am aware of this.
I also know that the contact cube side question has been asked a few times already, and it was answered the first time. Hence my post.
Thanks.

Slither,
I am sure at this point you are trying to just get the cube functional in c, but I would like to recommend 3 ideas for future development.
1.) Do you think it possible to have the audio manager interface now engage with the music tab/button to become a "mini player" within the the cube as in the original cube?
2.) A user defined "time out". Basically the ability to set an amount of time that will automatically close the cube out from running processes. May not be for everyone. And if the new version doesn't consume consistant memory when it is not minimized and running in the the background then never mind.
3.) A blue cube for PointUI users.
Awesome Development and Support!!!!
Thanks,
Curious George

Most of the repeat posts are not about the nonfunctional contacts page (which we all know that Slither is working on) but rather on the .ini file problem of getting error messages or programs not being launched. This is the biggest problem at the moment and I hope that a solution is found soon. It seems to me that the .ini file is not being parsed correctly and therefore the exe is trying to open nonexistent files.

Hi Guys,
I've read your posts and will try to act on them. Just remember I'll only try to make the cube as close to the original in terms of features. The music player plugin should be possible also as there are some good examples in the windows mobile SDK of this functionality.
I'll have another crack at the ShellExecuteEx function. I never had this issue in flash or c# :(
There is another option of using the CreateProcess function but it wasn't very good when I used it last.

Incredible performance and I love the fade-in/fade-out effect.
Got some strange effects when I tried out minimise.exe as the down swipe in FTouchFlo though - it brought up the cube again and when I tried to minimise the cube it always left me with activesync open and then the programs folder - neither of which were open originally.
Slither2006
16th January 2008, 12:32 AM
Hi chrisnash....you need to exclude SCLPC++.exe in your FTouchFloConfig.txt as you shouldn't be perform a minimize.exe while the cube is open....I have already coded a minimise in the cube when you downswipe.... unfortunately I can't get the current today screen when you minimze only the initial when the cube opens...but its a minor thing.

I'm not sure if it's due to my system, but in the ProgramList.ini,
anything that's set to reference lnk causes an error.
For example, setting
MusicDir2 = "\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\"
MusicFile2 ="Pictures & Videos.lnk"
causes an error
But if I set MusicFile2 to refer actual exe file such as
MusicDir2 ="\\Windows\\"
MusicFile2 ="pimg.exe"
it works fine.
When I browse through the directory and click on Pictures & Videos.lnk, I have no trouble launching the application.
Also, it would be nice if there's an option to return to cube interface.
Right now, when I launch a program through cube interface and close it, it doesn't get back to cube.

Hi Guys!
Great news!!! I've completely FIXED the Launching problem!!! :) It works with absolutely EVERY LINK FILE!!!!! Provided the link actually works in the first place that is.
I have been able to launch link files that refer to registry information, Exe locations and also links that contain parameters....It's executing programs as sucessfully as SCLPF does!!!
I've also simplified the ProgramList.ini as well so it's easier to configure for new users of SCLPC++.
I'll cross that off the list and move onto the next feature.

My goodness... SCLPC++ is amazingly fast on my TyTN II compared to Kona's cube!
However, the original font does look a bit "cheap MP4 player". Would using a font file over a PNG be possible for 0-04? Less impact on system resources and make it easier to implement custom languages?
Anyway, thanks to Slither! :D

Features
SCLPF has 2 additional menus and it's own Confuration Application plus many more!
SCLPC++ will try to stay true to the HTC Cube's original features.
HTC Cube has it's own Configuration Settings and an Audio Manager Plugin
sorry mate for asking more. I know coding is difficult. I m also doing coding for webpage...it s a lot of work sometimes when it has to come to add more feature.
But i would like to ask whether in future that SCLPC++ will have the additional feature like the SCLPC. Because this is what is also winning over the other cube despite speed.

Hi Guys,
I've finished beta 0-04 for WM05 & WM06. But because of limited POOM support I have to keep it absolutely simple for the WM2003 version. Today I'll be restructuring WM05 & WM06 could to make a simplified contacts version for WM2003.
I'll be keeping it simple for WM2003. Contacts will have to be added by editing the config file ContactsList.ini. The number and picture path will need to be provided for it to work. I do however believe the Remove Contact feaure will be possible as all it I need to do is code it to remove the contact from the ContactsList.ini file. I'll release both versions together so it will be released possible this afternoon.
I'm sure when a config app is created that is WM2003 compatible it will be possible to configure a contact for the WM2003 verson without having to edit the ContactsList.ini file.
VGA will come a week or two later.
Update soon.

Hi Guys,
It's 11:30 am in the morning here. I've been ironing out some minor bugs still in the WM05 & WM06 version. Once the WM2003 version is done ill upload it. I've found some more light on the WMP plugin area also. I need to download the WMP 11 SDK though and it apparently comes bundled with the Vista SDK which is 1GB....I'll have to wait til I get home before I can start downloading it.
I found that to control the WMP you have to create a UI plugin project in VS and then include that in the C++ project you make...in this case that would be SCLPC++. I believe I'd use the IWMP Object Model to get info and control the UI Plugin and the plugin would in turn relay this onto the WMP. If this is the case then it is Highly likely you'll see the audio plugin for my cube.

Hi there, and thanks for all great work everyone (and especially Slither of course) puts into this.
I have a problem with this cube on my LG KS20. I have tried both 0-02 and 0-03 and they both do the same. I just get a black screen with the EDGELIB evaluation message showing in the bottom for the first couple of seconds. Nothing happens if I press or swipe on the screen (except for those other commands it does because of FTouchFlo).
Am I overlooking something completely here?
Thanks in advance :)

just an idea, how about work on an interface with PocketMelody developed by thundershadow. coorparation needed then between you both then :) .. would be cool if theres an option between WMP or PocketMelody by ourself. just an idea. now stone me to death ^^
Slither2006
18th January 2008, 03:39 AM
Thats a brilliant idea. I'd have to check if thundershadow14 would be interested though. If he could just make it possible to communicate with 3rd party apps like my cube then I could implement a similar plugin as the original cube....if not I'll keep going with the WMP plugin.
Hi MTM,
Check you've got all files in the one location. It sounds like the program is having issues finding the png images to load. If you downswipe does the cube minimze? If so then it is definitely a png problem.

If you are using the WM2003 then there is no Add Contact feature. You need to add it manually but editting the ContactsList.ini file and typing the telephone number in there. (This method ONLY applies to WM2003 guys).
If you are using the WM05/06 version then you need to make sure the contacts number is stored under MobileTelephone number....I know it should allow it to be changed but this is just a beta example of what can be done with SCLPC++.

Hi Guys,
Please post Detailed Error reports. I shouldn't expect error messages from the WM2003 version. But the WM05/WM06 has more functions dealing with POOM so errors are more than likely to occur when tested on different devices.
Hi NexVision,
It may be a hardcoded path causing the issue. Make sure you have copied SCLPC++ in the /Application Data/ directory.

huh...very strange...I am able to add contacts without a problem and all of the icons I click on work perfectly. Everything is working great except that I am unable to minimize the cube by swiping my finger top > down. Nothing happens. Very peculiar indeed. Worked great in 0-3. It might also be due to the fact that I am using Dutty's DualTouch V4 ROM that has a built in Cube. Not sure though. Other than that no other issues to report. I am using Schaps Configuration tool to make sure that it is using the correct cube. opening SCLPC++.exe in the application data folder.

I just managed uno version working on KinOkin 1.30b, now your 4th version is out. Let me enjoy uno for another 10 minutes, ok?

huh...very strange...I am able to add contacts without a problem and all of the icons I click on work perfectly. Everything is working great except that I am unable to minimize the cube by swiping my finger top > down. Nothing happens. Very peculiar indeed.
Everything else works great for me. The cube minimises with a top-down swipe, rotates very very fast. I haven't configured the Music and Photos icons yet but the Media goes directly to HTC Audio Manager with no problem at all. Have tried everything with FTouchFlo and config settings but still no luck. Strange indeed...My initial impressions are that this cube is really really quick though! I look forward to the final release.

Well have also the problem with Adding Contacs... I'm using Wm6 on Kaiser. When I het a contant button, it flashes 2 times and nothing more happes, has this to do with the contact app i'm using? Because I use PocketCM for the contacts...
Edit: Solved the problem... the Add Contat only Works if it is placed under \Application Data.
