HARD-SPL - working!

I case of people who don´t read 200 post and still brick their device - here is the guide that worked for ALL people with:

HTC P4350
XDA Terra
WING

with IPL 4.xxx and higher!!! (that is IMPORTANT)

and then follow this:

Default
For me it was working when:

1. install canonyang.cab
2. install aserpolicy.cab
3- install disablesecurity.cab

4. SOFTRESET

5. run RUU from Hard-SPLWM6 folder verison 4.70.yang

6. screen will become white - WAIT until it reboots itselfe.
7. done!

check if SPL now is 4.70.yang

It worked for many others, too.

I've figured my issue out, maybe I can help the others that get the 202 Connection error.


On your device--BEFORE Hard-SPL--go to Settings->Connections->USB to PC and check that checkbox.

If it's not checked, most times you will get the 202 Connection error. Hard-SPL and you should be good to go!!:D

Softreset your Herald and press the Camara butten until you see an Colerd screen it´s the Bootloader. there you will find the IPL and SPL on the screen. softreset your herald without pressing any butten and it will start normely to youre WM. You wont delete any data aslong you nothing Flash.

HTC p4350
It had: WM6 overclocked to 299Mhz (but i let it on Default 201Mhz When I was in de process)

It had de 4mb Page Pool.

Never use an official RUU with included SPL.nbh (delete this ebfore flashing)

And never use the RUU from Hard-SPL

during the install of hardspl the ruu install wizard shows a windows with "connection failure" and only an Exit button. I click on it while it is in white mode... I am still waiting...

What should I do? (wainting or reset?)

It reboots normally as nothing was appened... better then brick.

1. Once you succed HARD-SPL = your device is free for flashing every Rom you want (if it is designed for Herald/Wing)

2. Herald Roms don´t fit to Wing devices because of keyboard difference - BUT you can try the ROM...

3. an official RUU contains
- several files for update process
- Romupdateutility.exe (the flashing program)
- RUU_signed.nbh (the OS [operatingsystem] itselfe)
- SPL.nbh

4. for using such an RUU (after HARD-SPL) delete SPL.nbh
5. when you can download a cutom ROM like Touchit 4.4 and all files are included (see 3.) then you can directly flash (spl.nbh is deleted)

6. when you ONLY can download RUU_signed.nbh = then you have to place it into a RUU folder from an official RUU BUT delete SPL.nbh (see 3.)



And please don´t be frustrated - BUT if this isn´t enough.

TAKE the stock ROM!!

just curious...since i've never done any of these hard SPL flashes (never needed to do it on the wizard).

what happens when a new official rom comes out with a higher SPL and IPL? This did happen back when I had the wizard last year...phone came with a stock 1.80 rom, but if you went to t-mobile's website (usa)...if you logged into my-tmobile, you were given a link to download an updated rom with SPL/IPL of 2.26 (official).

On the Wizard, going from a 1.x ROM to some of the available custom ROMs (some using SPL/IPL of 3.x) caused some people screw up their phones...so it was a problem. any potential that something this hard-SPL could cause a future problem if it's been edited to prevent the SPL from ever changing again?

to make a long storry short:

first was olipro (he is a super cracker)

and then canonyang somehow "finished" the work...

and it got a big fight - who really solved the problem.... with canonyangs version it worked and olipro mentioned that canonyang didn´t change anything. but at least canonyangs verison worked...

1. Download the phones original rom if you dont have it handy.
2. Hold down on the camera button and soft reset your phone, this will take you into the boot loader menu.
3. Reflash your phone with the original factory rom.

Notes:

If your device is HARD-SPL (SPL 4.70.yang) already and you want to go back to the original rom, make sure you delete the SPL.nbh file from the original rom's package.

I have a problem because my phone is unaccessible in Windows Explorer and other fuctions and i can't delete file that you mencioned.

I don't have a Official ROM, but i read that one brazillian guy reflash ROM with this Thread ROM.

I've dowloaded HARD-SPL by sendspace but when i run a flash program it warning me that canonyang.nbh file is corrupted.

I will try download from rapidshare.

Please make sure that you install the cabs in the correct order.
Then softrest your device.

Also, I've notice this before but might not be the case where there is cache held on your computer.

I would suggest your peform the above and then reboot your computer and try it again.

Not sure where you trying to say your cab files to so you need to provide more information.

Do you have a sd card?

As for the page pool size it's already default at 12MB.

(as I mentioned earlier, this happend with the T-Mobile MDA (aka Wizard), in that many got the phone with IPL/SPL of 1.80, however t-mobile allowed you to download an update through my.tmobile.com, which had IPL/SPL 2.26)

hmm...so basically...you use this method of HardSPL...then if you ever need to go back to stock rom...to upgrade or bring in to t-mobile...most likely the method to try is the USPL...with the stock ROM? Just keep the spl file in the actual rom when you flash (rather than removing it, like the recommendation in the first post for flashing any rom that might contain that spl file?)?

if anyone has succeeded in doing so, would be greatly appreciated. don't want to risk it yet, since there hasn't been enough feedback on this method...(and when i read the original hard spl thread...read about a lot of people bricking...though they had an spl of <4.x, and t-mobile wing users generally start with >4.x, so it should be fine...)

Sadly after the error the bitch doesn't boot anymore, so i have to re-flash hard-spl again and again, since it's the only one that works then.


Any ideas anyone? I just want to flash my cooked roms, or at least a nice clean one without bloat...TIA

AND DELETE the SPL.nbh!!!!!!!

I have been trying to HARD-SPL my Tmobile Wing for a few hours now and I keep getting this error after I run the Rom update for hard spl:

Error[202]: Connection

The Update Utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone. Please check that your USB cradle/cable is connected properly between the PC and your PDA Phone.

Check the following:

1: The PDA Phone is connnected to the USB cradle/cable.
2: The USB cradle/cable is connected to the PC

I followed the instructions in the first post by running all the three cabs first and did a soft reset of the device and also turned on flight mode. I keep getting the above error. I was running ITJE's Touch It 2.3 ROM and hard reseted the device and tried the procedure got the same error then i flashed the official Tmobile Rom i have for the Wing and tried again and again still same error. I also tried USPL and got the same error when it came time to flash.

Same situation here, it was suggested in a different thread (Touch-It 4.4) that reinstalling active sync solves the problem.

I have reinstalled active sync but have not had the time to try to go through the HARD-SPL steps yet.

Well, at least it doesn't brick everytime...this saves a lot of time and work. If you have HardSPL, your NBH file has to be set to HERA****, not HERA100, unless you're using the USPL method.

The file does NOT go into your memory card.
You're SUPPOSED to get a white screen, but you're NOT supposed to run that file. READ the walkthrough, please.

There is a sticky regarding question number 2.
The HardSPL cannot be removed by Sprite backup since sprite backup doesn't touch the formatting. You can use USPL and the factory RUU to restore your SPL.

Thanks for the reply. The acryonms used were throwing me off. The last step refers to running the RomUpdateUtility.exe. During that process it will ask you to install the canyonyang ROM. I was being overly cautious and was taking the directions verbatum.
I am excited to see if this helps my phone cause with all the tmobile crap it was starting to bog down.

Wow a custom ROM makes a world of difference. I just installed the Hard SPL on my Wing which only took 10 minutes and it works great. Only took another 10 minutes to install Open Touch 3.0. It pays to spend time reading and learning before jumping in. Thanks for everyone on this sites hard work!

You just connect your phone to your PC using activesync and copy the three CAB files somewhere on your phone using the explore option in active sync. (You can Drag & drop or copy & paste them). Then go through explorer on your phone and click on the files 1 at a time in the correct order and it will install them. My phone automatically deleted one of the CAB files after it installed but I had to manually delete the other two since it left them. Gotta conserve space ;).

Once all three are installed then hit the "soft" reset button on your phone and when it finishes rebooting, sync it up using activesync. Then go into the RUU or HardSPL_WM6 folder on your PC where your cab files are and run the RomUpdateUtilty.exe and just follow the instructions, which are basically just asking you to confirm that you want to do it.

It will reboot itself when it finishes and it will look way better than it did before.

I am connected via USB 2.0, on an XP box, and successfully synced. I installed each cab in order and soft-reset after the final cab install.

I'm too used to get that error in Windows XP sp2 using ActiveSync v4.5. until last night I tried 1 more time on Windows Vista using Windows Mobile Device Center and it success.

I think ActiveSync v4.5 unable to connect to the Wing during the flashing. You can try it one again in Windows Vista or may be using earlier version of ActiveSync.

I've been read all day yesterday about this herald thing, read went away oly the pro, canonyang the finisher etc but nothing seems to fit with the problem i encountered. i would like to ask you gurus, i found c800 bricked into bootloader after a couple weeks succeded using with wm6 upgrading with no hard spl process, that time was when the battery unplugged it revert back to bootloader mode(three color mode) with ipl/splnya backto 1.0009.01 on the screen.
try to flash with official rom just found error 300 shown up.

If your Herald is showing a 1.0 anything after doing a hardSPL, then it, unfortunately, is bricked and needs to be brought to a repair center.

3rd. tryng to get back with flashing official wm5 rom, with no luck just seeing err 300.

We have all been there . My first suggestion to you is load files on a memory card and install from the card to the phone. My next suggestion is to reboot your computer and if problem persists re-install active-sync. If that doesn't help then hard reset phone . But make sure you back up all your data first. But the first choice is the best option I say.

It should work fine on XP. In fact, most things work fine on XP but not on vista.

You can try it on different usb port on your computer or use a different XP computer.

Here is my experiences. On my Wing I encounter 202 error on my XP laptop but success hard spl in Vista Ultimate desktop. On my cousin's Wing, I got the same 202 error on the laptop. But when I switch to his XP laptop, I can hard spl his wing.

What is your SPL/IPL? If it's 1.xx.xxx, then NEVER use the HardSPL unless you like having a brick for a phone. The HardSPL is a hacked bootloader that allows the installation of non-certified firmware.

ivanmmj answered you but to make it as simple as possible. SPL/IPL If it's 1.xx.xxx then NO NO NO NO NO. HardSPL is 2 easily allow you to add a rom of your choice. That simple . Nothing else. Just think of it that way and you will have it clear. But ivanmmj explained it 100% technically correct.

HardSPL isn't a ROM. There isn't a keyboard to it. It's just a hacked bootloader.

Has anyone figured out where the 202 error comes from? When I had a Wizard I never had connection issues, now thats all I get when I try to Hard-SPL...:confused:

The error comes from many different reason. Some are as follows. When you computer connects to the phone via-active sync under windows its not a flawless connection. So when you run a program which is a 2nd party trying to utilize this connection the two softwares don't always communicate properly.
Another reason I have come to discover is even tho you are able to sync your phone it isn't always a perfect sync. you can send files and install programs but still the phone isn't fully sync'ed When this occurs you get various different errors. In essence it means the service or communication protocol you are attempting isn't working. Think of a car that drives yet it still needs a tune-up.

i want to hardspl my t mobile wing, but after i installed the cab files, i soft reseted the phone, then i ran the hard ruu file, but it doesnt go thru, it gives me an error message, therefor i cant installed none of the beautiful roms (like the vista one) that are here. someone please help me,

I did those exact steps and didnt work, I currently used O.T. v3.0 and currently using v3.0 WM6.1 WinLive works fine but i flash my original facto ruu and place cabs in root device open and reset then i get connection error i tryed it with another Hardspl i found and it wants to update it to 1.000.000 and has an error updating.... I case of people who don´t read 200 post and still brick their device - here is the guide that worked for ALL people with:

HTC P4350
XDA Terra
WING

with IPL 4.xxx and higher!!! (that is IMPORTANT)

and then follow this:

Default
For me it was working when:

1. install canonyang.cab
2. install aserpolicy.cab
3- install disablesecurity.cab

4. SOFTRESET

5. run RUU from Hard-SPLWM6 folder verison 4.70.yang

6. screen will become white - WAIT until it reboots itselfe.
7. done!

check if SPL now is 4.70.yang

I also have the wing and this has worked flawlessly for me on the first try. So lets just for argument sake re-install the stock rom. Then start at step one telling me what you doing step by step leaving nothing out. Then I will see if together we can see where its not working for you mate.

Ok .... First lets try re-downloading the rom . Second extract to your desktop . Now put the phone in boot loader mode and flash from there. Let me know I am around for a while if you are here mate.

Just played with HardSPL on a different machine from my own . Was doing 6 wings. And I noticed that on a machine with sp2 installed this HardSPL didnt work. Now we all know I have done this several times. But with SP2 installed your fix was the key. So good find mate .....

So folks if you are running sp2 on your windows install and most times this is so with vista or rather all times which is another reason i don't like vista as i have never upgraded to sp2.

Okay, I was inspired by all of you to take the plunge this morning and go HardSPL so I can load a micro ROM.

The information contained in this thread was perfect for helping me achieve success on the 2nd try! My first try - I got the error but checked the advanced functionality box in my PC to USB settings and Voila' - success! Thank you to all!

For all the people new to this flashing process that get a little worried when the instructions don't match with what is available, here is a little tip.

After you update your USB settings and you install the cabs and have soft reset, the instructions say

5. run RUU from Hard-SPLWM6 folder verison 4.70.yang


What that means is run ROMUpdateUtility.exe (Get it? RUU = Rom Update Utility) which was found in the HardSpl_WM6.rar you downloaded. This will start a process on your PC to upgrade your phone.

When you are done

check if SPL now is 4.70.yang


You will know because the splash screen tells you so. Also, you can hold down the camera button and soft reset to see your software versions.

Okay, I was inspired by all of you to take the plunge this morning and go HardSPL so I can load a micro ROM.

Trust when I saw we all are happy to see that. Every time someone new does it, it gives out a warm feeling that people are wasting their time here helping others. As this is all free and from the heart.

1. Once you succed HARD-SPL = your device is free for flashing every Rom you want (if it is designed for Herald/Wing)

2. Herald Roms don´t fit to Wing devices because of keyboard difference - BUT you can try the ROM...

3. an official RUU contains
- several files for update process
- Romupdateutility.exe (the flashing program)
- RUU_signed.nbh (the OS [operatingsystem] itselfe)
- SPL.nbh

4. for using such an RUU (after HARD-SPL) delete SPL.nbh
5. when you can download a cutom ROM like Touchit 4.4 and all files are included (see 3.) then you can directly flash (spl.nbh is deleted)

6. when you ONLY can download RUU_signed.nbh = then you have to place it into a RUU folder from an official RUU BUT delete SPL.nbh (see 3.)



And please don´t be frustrated - BUT if this isn´t enough.

TAKE the stock ROM!!

And please - once again before i started to post any question i was reading xda-developers.com for about ONE year!!!!!!!

Same situation here, it was suggested in a different thread (Touch-It 4.4) that reinstalling active sync solves the problem.

I have reinstalled active sync but have not had the time to try to go through the HARD-SPL steps yet.

You want to restart it meaning you stopped the program or you want to re-install it meaning you have already un-installed it.

Another note I have noticed folks is if for dome reason your usb isnt 2.0 you also get issues with HardSPL or flashing for that matter. Dont assume you have usb 2.0 .. Check it.

Many have had that same problem mate ... Try re-installing active sync , rebooting your computer , making sure the usb connection is checked on the phone , making sure you have an actual usb 2.0 connection.

I don't remember exactly , but I have seen a webpage showing C858 with IPL/SPL 1.11 updated to WM6 successfully . Then I have contacted Canon Yang (yeah , one of the author of Herald HardSPL , v4.7 yang) and he told me that if IPL/SPL do not have the MFG suffix should be able to upgrade by HardSPL v4.7++ , and he also directed me to the page above .
