Hi from Italy. I received for Christmas a X7501 from USA, with WM6. After first installation, the GPS software is downloadable from TELENAV web site. From Europe, it seems to be impossible to download the software. Does anybody knows how to install in X7501 a GPS software, downloadable for free ? and what about maps to install ? thanks in advance for answer me

I use this to watch US-restricted videos on NBC et al's Hulu site. It's much simpler than proxies etc.

I use co-pilot live and love it. No fees except for the one time purchase of the software. I am using version 6 but they just release version 7. You can view their site at http://www.alk.com. It is a great product and very easy to use.

There is a variety of software available not not much in the way of free. Certainly "GPS Testing" you could find but otherwise you're always going to be downloading maps.
It sometimes pays to actually buy the software, but it also helps if you know if you like it first. Personally I would reccomend Navigon Navigator as I've tried it, but YMMV on software.
Another thing you might want to do is peruse the rest of the website to see what other people have asked about in regards to SatNav and the answers given.
Cheers, Elwyn

You can download Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile devices at the links below, directly from Garmin. With the included basemap, you can do basic routing and test the software to see if you like it. Mobile XT is very cool and only costs about $85 on the internet with all of the USA on a chip.

You also need the basemap:

Can you copy the maps to the MD or a larger chip? That has been the issue for me...

Not officially but over at MoDaCo there are instructions.
In the UK there's nothing to beat CP7 though.

Also, this install seems to be limited to Garmin external GPS only, won't work with internal GPS... Is there a workaround?

I have sucessfully copied Mobile XT off the included SD card, and made it work with a Nokia N95 internal GPS. Not sure yet if it is going to work with the internal GPS of the X7501, but I will be able to find out in the next couple of days, as mine will be here. More on that later.
As for the Modaco article... the link is below. The article is, shall we say... "Enlightening"

bit late but I thought you might look at noni gps which is a track plotter and has an italian installation and is freeware.
If you want a driving application Igo 2006se can be found in a trial format on the net

So my X7501 arrived on Friday. I have Garmin Mobile XT running on it... fantastic! It is like an internet-connected NUVI. The buttons on the user interface are finger touchable, and the screen is easy to use. It works with Garmin Mapsource maps like City Navigator and Bluecharts and topographic maps. Proclip makes a powered bracket for the car, which looks nice and seems to work nicely in my Z3 Coupe. Will test futher, but I highly recommend this...

I've got memory-map on mine and love it. Which is good, because I use it at work so much..
Full 1:50000 of the UK OS mapping on there and a few 1:25000 areas I frequent.
