i don't understand why people keep using rapidshare. there is nothing rapid about it. its crap. mediafire has been recommended by several computer magazines. there is no waiting involved. just download the file...

Totally agree.

Rapidshare is ANYTHING but rapid (apart from rapidly removing cash from your credit card!)....especially in the ME.
Files can usually be attached to the forum cant they??? OR are we in that grey area again....Smiles...

mediafire is so much better than rapidshare. like i said. no waiting, no paying, no nothing. and it is so simple. max upload is 100mb i think. plenty in my opinion...

I would prefer mediafire too, but if someone's gonna take the time to upload a file for everyone, then I'm not gonna complain.

With that said, do you have DSL? If so, just turn your modem off for about 2-3 minutes and start it back up and you'll be able to download what you wanted without having to wait an hour or however long rapidshare likes to make us wait!

Guys, if there is a huge file most of you REALLY want to be hosted, I can offer up to 100 Mbytes of Webspace on my (paid-for) database back-end. Just let me know what files you want me to host and I'll mirror them.

Ehm, still I haven't had a proper look at rapidshare really, but I guess one should pay in order to download stuff from it.

It is something I'd like to avoid, as many other users do I think.

So, any other (free) solution would be welcomed....

I really don't care about speed as my provider filters connections in order (they say) to limit peer-to-peer... the truth is: they buy bandwidth from another company, so they promise ther users 4 MBits but if everyone used 4Mbits everything would crash.

Anyway, as attachments aren't usually that big, I'd be happy with 30Kbps download speed....

This is a great sulution. Although, you cannot post you files without a moderator, it would be efficient, fast, free, and all-accessable.

But what would be even greater, is if we all chip in for lagrer servers or something, so that xda-developers can have their own open ftp-sulution for uploading and downloading larger files. Of course, with some posting rules, but I believe it could be a great future sulution!

Basically, I have an 1GB database back-end account I pay some US$ 70 a year for. Currently, it's the site the screenshots, HTML charts and CAB and other binary files are on.

I can configure it to allow for anon FTP access (that is, something like XDA-Devs was for) but I can only offer some 100 Mbytes of web space. This is why I've offered I'm ready to host, say, one or two ROM images + all the small Kaiser-related files you need prompt and quick access to.

Just would like to point out that rapidshare if you are TETHERED is a bloody nightmare to download from...you get dropped..start over...oh..but first wait 5 minutes ......dropped again? To bad... one hour before you can download again.....download didn't start correctly and you got a 4k html file instead? To bad...no soup for you.

I agree with rjcb23, this is free software. I don't mind a bit about rapidshare. I normally start the download waiting the 7 seconds or whatever it is and switch tabs and keep reading on XDA! No big deal.

your request may be a good alternative, but it's up to everyone where he wants to put his files. if i don't have to put any numbers and don't have to wait - excellent! ;)

don't get it why you cross post this thread (3 threads with exact the same request)...it's part of the "forum rules" not to cross-post...
one thread about your "problem/request" is enough imo...i'm always checking "new posts" (and i think a lot of the other guys also do) so it makes no sense to cross-post

anyway....have a nice evening....

petervbeck: i am one of those people who never reads any manuals, handbooks or instructions. i was not aware of this rule, that you cant cross post. the reason why i did it is simple. i wish people would see realize how much better sites like mediafire are. so everyone can benefit from it. i guess i got carried away. i got mad...

you "can" cross post - but it's not good and a lot of guys will reclaim to that posts sometimes....
just a waste of space and another thread which is useless imo...

for me - if i do the next upload, why don't use mediafire, there's no penalty for everyone, so why not ?
just did a test with a small file and it was looking ok.... (you got me... :))

Cheers.....and guys...don't forget to enjoy some phantastic guinness... :)

[SIZE="1"]this might have been posted elsewhere on the boards, but it looks like neavissa was a tad prescient when he implied there was a problem with RS, it's now down!

...for me at least, I've tried accessing it through 3 different ISPs in UK, no joy! A friend was telling me that they would not be able to continue hosting copyrighted content with impunity for much longer, looks like he may have been right!

the following news story is being linked from loads of blogs:

GEMA obtains injunctions against data exchange services
http://www.heise.de/english/newsticker/news/83948

But the date on that story is 2007!

<edit> Anyway RS appears to be up and running again. Rumours of it's death were greatly exaggerated :)

6 threads crying about RapidShare? Come on, grow-up a bit.

If you're not compiling the content then don't complain about where it's being posted.

BTW, it you pay for premium RS you're not providing it to the whole building unless you share your login info.

Finally, consider this a warning. Cross-post again and get free 1 week vacation in Banville.

the only explanation is that xda is getting paid under the table from radipshare. end of story.

WRONG!

What you need to remember is that these ROMs are technically illegal because Microsoft owns the distribution rights to Windows Mobile, and none of the cooks on this site have paid Microsoft for distribution rights.

Rapidshare is the host of choice because they have fast downloads that are automatically mirrored to at least 3 different locations, and because their servers are non-searchable, which makes them more secure.

And BTW, $30USD per 90 days is well worth it for a Rapidshare Premium account.

22nd June 2008, 02:29 AM
The thing I loathe about Rapidshare is the stupid cat laced twisted up number pictures. I mean, twist them, OR put cat pictures on the right ones, DON'T DO BOTH!! You can't bloody well tell if it's a bloody dog or a bloody cat, and is very frustrating the 50th time you have gotten it wrong!!!!!
Aside from thet, I greatly appreciate all of the wonderful people on here who are kind enough to upload files for the rest of us. Thank you very much!

......
at the same time though it looks like they are not able to expand there brains and use something else then rapidshare.

......

the only explanation is that xda is getting paid under the table from radipshare. end of story.

If you really want the members who provide the content you crave so badly to have sympathy for you you might not want to call them stupid as you did in this quote.

Also, stating that XDA-Devs is getting paid under the table is just stupid.

Many members actually provide 2 or 3 download sources (I personally post to RapidShare, MegaUpload & 4Shared). Additionally most files are quickly mirrored by other members so most Roms, Cabs & Files can actually be downloaded from several sources.

So now I'm going to ask you something: What have you contributed to this forum? Have you ever donated a single cent to the up-keep of this site or someone who has provided a Rom, Cab or other File that you use? What Roms have you cooked?

Oh yeah and finally, where do you post all of the content your efforts are generating that you share with everyone here?

BTW, when I merged your 6 Threads I also changed the title but I'm not aware of any Moderators editing the content of your posts.

I second the motion to dump rapid share, recently tried to d/l a ebook, I could not figure out which letters to enter since all letters were attached to cat, and i had to try 10 times to understand that it should the letter with cats face visible or its ears visible, Awful I say. Yeah, Good luck with that. Many of us won't give up RS period. Why? Most of the chef's & others post mirrors or someone else in the thread usually will. If you contribute anything of value, you get enough downloads to maintain a free premium account, & with that you can't go wrong.

You also get what you pay for, I started by paying for three months of RS, now I pay for one or two months a year with all the DL's. RS has never been down. None of my files has ever gone bad or been deleted, always works from my PC or my device & it is spot on consistent with download speeds.

Heck, you can even start a free collectors account & again, if you make any kind of contribution worth it's weight (even bundled theme packs) you have a free premium acct in little time.

cragordon
22nd June 2008, 09:41 AM
YES, I hate rapidshare with a passion, and I refuse to pay for their garbage services, that sooner or later I will just find a torrent and/or someone will mirror the file eventually.

So now I'm going to ask YOU something:
are you nuts? where does an argument like yours come from? are you saying that i cant bitch because i didn't contributed enough/at all to this forum?

Am I nuts, NO. Are you retarded?

Here is why I say that: When I create content such as Cab Files or Roms then it is my choice where I host them. As I said before Personally I put everything on 3 different hosts which means I spend 3 times the amount of time uploading the files.

When you generate content you can post it where you prefer.

no one here has designed, developed or build their own HTC device. but all they do, is discuss how to make it better!!!
according to your logic, you should ask them the same question you asked me? what right do they have to bitch to HTC about?

THE SAME I HAVE!!! and every other consumer in this matter.!!!!!!!!!!!

But you are not a consumer of XDA-Devs are you? How have you supported the site? Have you donated to XDA-Devs costs or to a Rom Chef? Have you given your time to try to fix a problem or help nooBs.

Of course not, all you've done is cry because you have a problem with one of the many hosts that Content Developers are using.

The cost of benefiting from our work for free is having to live with our choice of hosts. But of course if you don't care to donate towards the site or Content Developers then you really won't like the idea of a paid D/L service. I bet you bitch to google about their advertising because as a free user you deserve more content & less Ads...

See HTC got money from your decision to buy one of their devices, there is an implied warranty of merchantability. They should expect you to complain if the product falls short of your expectations.

When you are leeching free products from a user supported forum then NO you don't have the right to piss and moan like you are.

Do everyone a favor, read the link in my signature "What is XDA-Devs". Where do you fall in place regarding that one?

Oh yeah, finally.. it still appears you are the only one editing your posts. Maybe you're just embarrassed because when a 6 threads are combined it makes you look retarded because you cry the same thing over and over again. Merging redundant threads is a lot different from editing posts.

GSLEON3
23rd June 2008, 10:53 AM
No, I will have the last word. I will also be cleaning up this thread.

neavissa, You want your opinion of RS know, fine, that will stay. The rest of this thread will most likely be going bye bye. It has degraded to something of little to no value now.
