so the real question is for me;
i left windows behind long ago. ive no card reader - so is there a way to get the phone to format the sd card that's inside it?
and could i then go from an unmodded phone to unlock cid and fully flash?

You can use wm5torage to make the phone emulate a jumpdrive..then linux can format the card using the phone...you can run windows in virtualbox and do most things although I don't recommend using it to flash but you are not going to flash IN linux since you need activesync.

the other thing ive not quite wrapped my mind around is well
my phone is the att tilt version - single camera - so is it ccid locked or whatever?

arg
cant get sync to go in vbox ;_;
anyone out there with a howto or pointer?
seems like vbox cant take full control over usb or so
might try vmware server tomorrow
