I installed this ROM on my iPAQ rw6828 a few weeks ago, and up until a couple of days ago have had no problems at all (except for the bluetooth audio bug). Now, all of a sudden, it keeps dropping out of reception (the last few days it's done it probably thirty times!). I'd like to eliminate the possiblility that it's a bug in this ROM and re-flash back to HP's WM5 image. Unfortunately, I was playing around with flashing an O2 Atom ROM onto this device before I put this one on, and it re-wrote the bootloader as a non-HP one ("MN1 Bootloader - Copyright (c) 2006 Quanta Corporation").

This allowed me to very easily flash this image, but means that the genuine HP update doesn't work. When I attempt to run it, I get the following:

How can I revert this back to HP WM5? Even if this problem is not to do with this ROM (as I suspect will indeed be the case) and needs to go back to HP for repair, it will need to be a genuine HP ROM for my warranty to be valid anyway.

I have tried using the patched hpRUU.exe (hpRUU_patched_from_language_and_model.zip), but the same error still comes up.

Still using Beta 3 with my RW6818, aside from the Bluetooth bug, everything is still working fine. Started using the Beta 3 when it first surface and up to now everything is still working with up to 2GB of apps running.

Bluetooth Internet Passthrough is a bit ok, but MobiTV is lagging. Bluetooth Stereo is not working, WM plays faster when in A2DP mode and no sound.

Just flash this rom to my hp6828 via pc update with win xp cant update with win vista maybe is driver problem.So far everything is fine no problems with active sync..lol one things bad is the volume is softer compare with 1.0.5a anyway to make it louder?But the sound for start button is quite annoying anyway to disable it?

Yes, I can use my camera. I don't know how, but it is even faster than the camera application in WM5!! :)

I used the 2.01b rom. Everyting works except Activesync for my mail/contact/calander sync and the FM radio Application.

Dudes, if u are having troubles with WM6.1 loading on 6828..


1. delete c:\windows\temp all files
2. on your device press Reset+left and right Softkeys to enter bootloader (boot loader should be 1.01)
3. run the downloaded update utility directly (no unpacking) and select "OS Only" by highlighting it and pressing right key then press next.
4. it should detect that your device model or version as "0"
5. finish update and remove battery for about 15secs
6. restart device.

If that does not work then download WM5 SD version, reflash to WM5 then repeat above steps !!!

I CAN REBUILD MY IPAQ 6 TIMES WITH MANY DIFFERENT ROMS IN A SESSION OF DRINKING BEERS !! ! EASY WHEN YOU KNOW HOW !!

FOR HP iPAQ rw6815 USER ONLY (NO CAMERA PROBLEM)
I am 100% sure this method will for anyone using HP iPAQ rw6815
I will try to explain as easy as I can.
You will start the process with your PC and end it with MiniSD card
Now before we start, please get these things ready
• USB cable
• MiniSD card ( I think any card will do)
• Fully charge HP iPAQ rw6815
• Your ActiveSync connection
PART ONE
1 first download these two files Download 2.01b beta1 via PC and Download 2.01b beta1 via miniSD , you will need these two files to have wm6.1 working perfectly.
2 Download Device Software Update Utility with this link : Here - Mirror - Mirror ( these files are from first of this thread )
If you have these three files, you can start.
1 Ver2.01b_beta1.exe--------------size---------------------47.1mb
2 diskimg.nb0-----------------------size---------------------64mb
3 sp34053.exe-----------------------size---------------------34.7mb

Note : delete every things in C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory of your PC you before start these steps
• Extract sp34053.exe (I am using winrar) directly to C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory. (*do not copy and paste extracted files*)
• Extract Ver2.01b_beta1.exe directly to C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory. (*do not copy and paste extracted files*)
• Connect your device with PC via mini USB port
• Go to C:\WINDOWS\Temp and click on hpRuu.exe to Run Device Software Update
• Choose "OS only" (This is safe menthod) * this may not show*
important note : Now, you are flashing ROM via PC, during the process your PPC will disconnect from your PC. DO NOT unplug or disconnect your device during flash, just cancel the installation. Now your PC will see your PPC as new device (pls allow PC to auto install or you install it throught device maneger) then go back to C:\WINDOWS\Temp and click on hpRuu.exe to Run Device Software Update. This will restart flashing and complete it. Now you have a new HP iPAQ rw6828 Row on your HP iPAQ rw6815.

Due to ActiveSync connection problem you will complete the process with MiniSD card

Get your MiniSD card and format with PC (I use FAT when formatting my 1GB MiniSD)

• Copy diskimg.nb0 file root folder of miniSD (name must be : diskimg.nb0 )
• -Insert miniSD card to your device.
-Charge battery full.
-Go to bootloader : Press both soft key (two "-" keys) and softreset (stylus), the HP bootloader sceen. Will appear
-Wait 15 -> 20 mins. It will auto hardreset.
These are the steps I follow to install mine.
Congratulation You now have Wm6.1 on your HP iPAQ rw6815

Reading carefully page 1 to 10 this thread, will solve 99% of any problem you are facing. What you need right now is HARDRESET your device. If you read page 1 to 10 and understand how every problem is solved, then you will know the in and out of your phone.

Just one question : Can PC still connent to your PPC?

I am using this rom on my HP ipaq rw6815 dutch version. the "dutch" stands only for the rom lanquage. If you upgrade to WM6.1 it will be the english version.

I used only the SD install. More than that is not required.

Hello, i have explain how i flash my ipaq 6815 on this thread page 79, please let me if you try the method and did not work for you. Also, i think anybody using ipaq 6828 can also try my method if you are having any problem.

I have my ipaq rw6815 running on wm 6.1 for almost 2weeks now,
If you thing my method is long or not necessary, just give us a better method you know and let everybody enjoy the wm 6.1 without any problem.

FOR HP iPAQ rw6815 (ipaq rw6828 may try it, i only used hp ipaq 6815)

You will start the process with your PC and end it with MiniSD card
Now before we start, please get these things ready
• USB cable
• MiniSD card ( I think any card will do)
• Fully charge HP iPAQ rw6815
• Your ActiveSync connection
PART ONE
1 first download these two files Download 2.01b beta1 via PC and Download 2.01b beta1 via miniSD , you will need these two files to have wm6.1 working perfectly.
2 Download Device Software Update Utility with this link : Here - Mirror - Mirror ( these files are from first of this thread )
If you have these three files, you can start.
1 Ver2.01b_beta1.exe--------------size---------------------47.1mb
2 diskimg.nb0-----------------------size---------------------64mb
3 sp34053.exe-----------------------size---------------------34.7mb

Note : delete every things in C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory of your PC you before start these steps
• Extract sp34053.exe (I am using winrar) directly to C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory. (*do not copy and paste extracted files*)
• Extract Ver2.01b_beta1.exe directly to C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory. (*do not copy and paste extracted files*)
• Connect your device with PC via mini USB port
• Go to C:\WINDOWS\Temp and click on hpRuu.exe to Run Device Software Update
• Choose "OS only" (This is safe menthod) *this option may not show*
important note : Now, you are flashing ROM via PC, during the process your PPC will disconnect from your PC. DO NOT unplug or disconnect your device during flash, just cancel the installation. Now your PC will see your PPC as new device (pls allow PC to auto install or you install it throught device maneger) then go back to C:\WINDOWS\Temp and click on hpRuu.exe to Run Device Software Update. This will restart flashing and complete it. Now you have a new HP iPAQ rw6828 Row on your HP iPAQ rw6815.

Due to ActiveSync connection problem you will complete the process with MiniSD card

Get your MiniSD card and format with PC (I use FAT when formatting my 1GB MiniSD)

• Copy diskimg.nb0 file root folder of miniSD (name must be : diskimg.nb0 )
• -Insert miniSD card to your device.
-Charge battery full.
-Go to bootloader : Press both soft key (two "-" keys) and softreset (stylus), the HP bootloader sceen. Will appear
-Wait 15 -> 20 mins. It will auto hardreset.

Congratulation You now have Wm6.1 on your HP iPAQ rw6815

Please, nobody is paying anyone to post here, if i can take my time to explain step by step on how i did mine and it worked, i think it will be more helpful if you could explain step by step how you are doing yours, so i may know where you are having problem. Why trying to flash mine, i faced all these problems too before i finally get it work.

I put important note below the steps, after clicking hpRuu.exe in the C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory, please read this important note again

INSTALLING Ver 2.01b beta1 ON HP iPAQ rw6815

With WM5 it always works fine.

there are no changes in de registrery between the wm5 version and wm6.1 version. Weird.

1) you need to downgrade the bootloader if you are flashing via PC.
You don't need to downgrade if flashing via SD card

I've the pda's miniusb broken and i have to send it to assistance.
I've downgraded it to wm5, flashing by minisd. But in English

Now, the only way to flash it in ITA is download the official update rom from hp, but it works with RUU.. and it need usb connection..

I've thought to copy the nbf file into the miniusb, but don't know if it's good.

It's Camera Software of O2 Atom
I was use it in the version for 68x8.
Because 6815 didn't compatibility with Camera Software of O2 Atom so that I use HP Camera Software for it.

I've some problems using the 1.04 miniSD version of this ROM for my rw6815. I've done:

1. unpacked the archive to root of miniSD (1GB Kingston, FAT FS)
2. checked size (64,000kb)
3. pressed both '-' and reset with stylus

You have tot do al in the same time.

There are two ways :
- via miniSD :
+ Frist you should download WM5 ROM from first page.
+ Extract and renamed it to diskimg.nb0
+ Copy to miniSD card.
+ Change battery full
+ Go to BLoader and wait 15->20 mins
+ It'll auto HardReset
- via PC :
+ Download WM5 from HP site (Must Right language and model, if not you should use patch language and model -> may be not work)
+ Change battery full
+ Remove miniSD card
+ Go to Bootloader
+ Connect to USB port
+ Run RUU

hello,
i download the rom's from first page and i tried to upgrade wm6.1 but i didn't.
mini sd version.
i did all written things (coping image to mini sd, etc) but on the bootloader screen device waits 5 minutes and restart. than the same wm5 opened.
for pc version.
i did all written things but when i start Device Software Update Utility i am choosing the os only and at the next screen program said checking the information on your devices please wait. i wait more than half hour but nothing happend.

Yes u can upgread....to WM 6.1 yap its NHOCBANME's ROM u can do it its a stable ROM but Try Helloworlds ROM dey d Better stable n Good.....

1. I have an rw6815 with bootloader 1.0.6. I´ve read that in order to change from WM5 to WM6.1 I need bootloader 1.0.1. What´s the difference between bootloader 1.0.1, 1.0.5 and 1.0.6, and can I get 1.0.6 back after I changed it, if I for some reason want to go back to WM5?

2. How do I install bootloader 1.0.1 via PC? I´ve tried to find an answer... and I don´t have a miniSD-card yet.

3. Is the camera-problem fixed in NHOCBANME´s latest roms?

found an old 128mb mem card and put the Ver2.01b_beta1_miniSD onto it, flashed it via that way.

now succesfully running WM6

ya... i have flashed my rom and i have already tested all of them and the best one in my opinion is...Ver 1.04b for 6815, its stable and fast... very fast..but the bug is camera as many have same problem....

I got the same issue with my rw6815, the problem with mine is the soft keys(-) are not functional on my rw6815 I wanted to test the rom i degraded my bootloader from 1.0.5 to 1.0.1 download from "ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34053.exe"

first try corrupt image file, second try success. after the degraded ROM powers up i tried to upgrade it to WM6 but i noticed i dont have activesync connectivity anymore.

ipaq will simply not connect to pc anymore tried using "USB Switch" either being Serial or RNDIS no luck.

since my soft(-) keys are not functional, is there any alternateway to have this sorted out? or is there any patch to install on the ROM 1.00.03 WWE to make activesync functional. please help.

I was trying to upgrade my rw6815 with the rom from NHOCBANME.
But it gives me an error saying, failed to write to C:
I figured out that I have to downgrade my bootloader to 1.01 since I have 1.05 know. So I downloaded a windows rom with an older version of the bootloader but when I was trying to upgrade it found out that the language version is not compatibel so I downloaded the patched hpRUU.exe.
When I replaced the hpRUU.exe with the patched one it sad, file is corupted.
So I tried to downgrade the bootloader only. I downloaded version 1.01 put it on SD card and entered Bootloader but nothing happend. I formated the card with XP and Vista in Fat and Fat 32, nothing seems to work.
Anyone has any sugestions on how to downgrade the bootloader?

I`m using hp rw6815 i had the WM5 with bootloadr 1.05 and i made the downgrade to 1.01. After the downgrade it was installed one voice commander the name that i don`t know. It was nice software that i was able to call application without recording them with my voice, i was able to dial number through voice. Cause of upgrading to WM6.1 i cannot find the name of that voice commander ?
If anyone knows, please let me know the name.

Ho scaricato la rom wm5 in inglese da qui:

ho provato a flasharla sul cellulare via minisd ma quando si riavvia per eseguire l'hard reset rimane fermo sulla scritta bianca con fondo nero di attesa, per sempre. Se a questo punto resetto il telefono con un soft-reset rimane fermo sulla schermata di boot (non bootloader) dell'hp con in basso in rosso la versione della rom e del bootloader. Ho provato a cambiare versione del bootloader ma non è cambiato nulla, mi da sempre lo stesso difetto.
Qualcuno saprebbe aiutarmi? C'è qualcosa di sbagliato in quello che faccio o c'è una soluzione alternativa?

Guys I need help!
I have an HP rw6815 and i've tryed to install different roms that i found in this forum, but now i need to come back to wm5.
I've downloaded wm5 english version from here:

I've tryed to flash it via minisd on my pda but in first reboot (when pda done hard reset), the pda rests locked on black screen whit white sentence of wait for factory-restoring. If in that moment i reset my pda it rests on boot image (not bootloader) whit rom verison number and bootloader version number.
Can anybody helps me? Is there an error in my procedure of there was a different procedure?
