Hi Guys,

Fistly got to say what a 1st class service this forum is. I've owned XDA's in almost every version since the big old surfboard that was the original XDA and always found the information here to be first rate.

So.... keen to get the new TYTN II I grabbed a locked Orange version (I have an O2 contract) and for those who have the same unit, here are the steps I took to free the device and hope this helps others.

My first searches turned up warnings saying "under no circumstances should you change the firmware on an Orange HTC TYTN II" apparently it would render it unable to see any SIM, even an Orange one.

Having experienced the shocking Orange interface for around 2 minutes,I decided I would take my chances and use the HardSPL software to rid me of their interface. This worked fine, I then UPGRADED to the HTC base ROM.

I still had a SIM locked device so I spoke to orange who were happy to remove the lock for £20 as long as I was the original account holder for the handset (which I am not). They then advised me to "go to your local market and someone would be able to do it".... SHOCKING!! If they took all the £20's maybe they could afford more staff for their call centre!

So, based on the advise here, I used IMEI-CHECK's website and was free of the Orange shackles about 5 minutes later.

So, if you have a locked ORANGE device, don't beleive the rubbish on the inter-web about not flashing the firmware, don't bother with Orange inteface (it's reeeeaaallllyyyy bad) just pay IMEI-CHECK, flash the basic HTC ROM and enjoy.

Just a final note, I've had every car gadget for my XDA's and the best one ever is a £3 magnet my GF got me as a stocking filler this year. It has an almost invisible black metal strip that you stick on the back of your phone and the round magnet part attatches to your dashboard and holds you phone solid, no cradles, no cables, just works, perfect for TOMTOM. A similar one is here:

Cheers Guys.

The "DO NOT FLASH AN ORANGE DEVICE" only applies to the radio. You can flash the OS as much as you want.
Or you can unlock your device and flash both....
