Why is the Camera so slow?

I had the Wizard before and noticed that there is a delay when taking pictures. I thought it was the processor, but now I have the Hermes and it's the same. It's kind of annoying. I also have a Nokia and it takes the picture as soon as I hit the button. Is it because of the slower memory interface by HTC or WM5/6? Any ideas?

PS. I've tried several roms w/different camera software with no luck.:(
