Resistive touch is based on a series of many MANY resistors under the screen, in a matrix form (not Neo...) and when you touch the screen, a resistor goes low (no resistance) which tells the TS (touch screen) controller to tell the processor (Qual7200) that a finger has been placed at x,y with 0,0 being the upper lefthand portion of the screen.

Same here. When I'm on the PATH on my way into NYC, theres at least 3 people in the car with me that look at me slide open the tilt, type something, then close it and start tapping the screen again. Then they look at their I-phone, and back at my device. I just smile smugly. They know, just like I do, that they got the short end of the stick.

Someone needs to call a waaaam-bulance. Someone also needs to inform the OP that everything that microsoft does is not perfect. Far from it. And yes I am talking about iphone UI vs WM UI, as others have mentioned. Anyone with a 3rd grade education can see this. No, the iphone is not perfect. It lacks extremely in functionality, but the user interface works well and is extremely slick. No, WM is not perfect. Its functionality is exponentially greater. It is really only limited by whatever hardware it is running on. But it's user interface definitely can be cumbersome and is starting to show it's age.

And who is anyone to tell anyone else what they can do with THEIR phone? The OP? HA. If someone is happy with a certain configuration of their device, isn't that all that matters? Who the fuck is the OP to tell them otherwise? Oh that's right, no one.

I'm no apple fanboy, and generally do not like the iphone due its restrictions on 3rd party development (I.E. none) and the smug owners it attracts, but it is ignorant and immature to tell users what they should or should not being doing to their devices. If someone wants to combine the iphone's interface with WM, that is their prerogative. We should not be shitting on them as a community. If you don't want to help with / read about it, don't click on the threads. If it comes up in a thread, ignore it.

ITS the HYPE that I'm mostly fed up with. People have the knowledge of an Iphone through MASS media, and now they compare anything that has a touch screen that can call with the iphone.

I guess it is a natural thing to do, but people think so POSITIVELY about APPLE products that they disregard pretty much their own conscience to judge. SOUNDS like a damn CULT to me when I see APPLE LOVERS just let all the advertisements do the thinking for them instead of having a clear head judging the product.

Also, America has been lacking decent phones that are marketed to almost everyone. Yeah I thought mac was bad with the proprietary software and hardware, then I saw my buddy's sidekick. Holy shit! You have to pay 4 bucks to download a friggin alarm clock! I don't think there is any file structure for it either. I.E.- no file explorer. Now that I think about it, I don't think iphone has a file explorer either. Worst of all, there is no way to download software without paying for it (there are a few free crappy things). I searched all over the web for a way to hack it, and came up empty-handed. I'll start with this; I have an overall dislide of Apple products. I find their marketing viral and annoying. BUT! I do give credit where credit is due. Apple designed one hell of a phone. The touch screen is flawless and tough glass. The interface is quick, useful, and designed for quick use. I'll also add that the iPhone I've found just as hackable as the Kaiser for now.

I was very egar to jump from the iPhone when I finally had the chance. I bought a tilt, loaded it with HTC f/w and was off to the races. Quickly I found the OS was clunky and the software mirrored what was currently on the iPhone (-MSM office) The features where the same. The Kaiser has +1MP on the camera over the iphone's 2mp camera, but that doesnt help when the Kaiser camera driver is choppy and slow shutter speeds kill the photos. I will say I enjoy having a qwerty keyboard again, but that quickly lost it's appeal over the current OS flaws.

Also, you don't realize how handy the motion sensing component is in the iphone until you try to view the Kaiser and the screen doesnt auto adjust.

I also agree that the plastic screen, after having a glass screen just seems cheap.

Last thing I have to say. The Kaiser is an awesome phone. It hasn't been realized yet. It's like the Playstation 3. It was released before it should have been. Drivers haven't been made, OSs haven't been refined. The platform is rock solid but the software is flakey at best.

I can't wait for the day when I can put the iphone on the shelf and use my TomTom enabled Kaiser.

Apples are awesome... there are a lot of things they do better than windows installed computers.

The iphone is CURRENTLY a peice of crap, yes.... it has a very good thing going in the way the OS is setup.. but it sucks otherwise because of the limitations it has.

what can a mac do that a pc cant?
my main concern is that .exe's are the number 1 file type, and Macs cant view them. this is the main reason i think PC's are better, support for more file types.

for example, if you type in "AVI converter" in a search probably 98% of your results will NOT work on a mac, they are all .exes for a PC. Your going to have to do more searching to find a Mac compatible version. this is only an example. when your trying to search for an app that does something you want.

The only thing that is cool about the Iphone is that you can use your finger instead of a stylus. I wish wm6 had that kind of interface. But otherwise, wm is so much better. The iphones lack of any good 3rd party apps, GPS, 3G support, a TERRIBLE keyboard and lack of hackability make it far worse than any wm device.

I have a jail break iPhone with 1.1.3 on it. Its fully customisable and there are hundreds of apps out there for the iPhone already despite the SDK only being made available. To say otherwise is a myth.

The Kaiser's basic features and basic performace are what really let it down. To release such a device which performs at best on par with an older device was a large mistake. Apple have 3 updates out already tackling many of the issues their customers have. What have we got from HTC? Nothing.

Even if it was supplied with the proper drivers, I'm sure many would sell it for another, higher capacity phone. 6 months down the like I'm sure the a 3rd generation of this phone will poke its head out.

Windows machines don't run .app files. An .exe is an application compiled for the Windows architecture. An .app file is an application compiled for the OS X architecture. To say that because a Mac doesn't run .exe files it must be poor is like saying that Windows machines suck because they can't cook you breakfast. Just retarded.

Speaking from experience (my brother owns an iPhone) you have to admit that it has some nice apps on it, for example it has a guitar, piano and drum program. Which i must say is amazing because of the multi-touch it makes it possible to play guitar rifs, piano music and drum beats :P

but alas, that is where the ACTUAL good sides in my point of view end, the rest is not worth the hype, just the 4rd party apps that developers have created are AWESOME

After reading this thread i've come to a conclusion. These are the types of people:

1. iphone fanboys - self explanitory
2. kaiser fanboys - self explanitory
3. the moderates - they look at the phones as devices, not life partners.

Pretty much, it just comes down to what you use it for. If you want to be with the crowd, get the iphone. If you enjoy apps like piano, or guitars, get it. If you want a device that does utility work, such as Word, Excell, GPS, 3G, and the like, then get a Kaiser.

When it comes to purpose, its comparing apples to oranges. Such as the purpose mentioned above. In GPS, Kaiser rapes, in 3g Kaiser rapes, in funtionality, kaiser rapes, in being "with the crowd", kaiser fails, in having apps like drums, piano and the like, kaiser fails.

If you want to be in the crowd, play chopsticks or guitar without a real guitar, have the same phone you see on TV, surf with Safari, and use multi tap touch screen, listen to your music... go with the iphone.

If you want GPS, Wifi, 3G, QWERTY, Flexibility, if you have busisness needs, or whatever, then get a Kaiser.

it is fully customizable, you can change ringtones, sounds, icons, backgrounds etc. Other customisations such as HTC cube etc are just 3rd party apps running on the OS. The iPhone is fully customizable. As for HTC I paid a premium price for an underperformng device and their response is unacceptable. Then look at apples responses to their customers, already 3 patches, the release of the iPhone SDK and now a major deal with google creating iGoogle.

Thats like saying a car with doors, windows, wheels and a stearing wheel is "well equipped". I see all of that as standard, ringtones, wallpaper, and the like. Even my cousins Krazr can have changed ringtones, wallpaper, and icons...does that make it fully customizable? Features are GPS, WIFI, 3G, QWERTY and TouchScreen...those are real features, not just stuff that the phone can do. But I guess its about semantics. To you features are ringtones and sounds, but to me features are 3G, WIFI, and GPS and so on.

It seems the most you have riding on your argument is the fact that HTC isn't providing updates. They've put out new roms before for many phones , and just because they haven't put out a fix yet for the Kaiser doesn't mean they never will. So I wonder what your argument would be once/if HTC puts out a fix.

Either way, I see the kaiser superior because it does what I want it to do. GPS, 3G, WIFI, fully customizable. I can take out the battery, if I'd like. 32 gig capacity, QWERTY, Word, and so on.

I'd like to point out that I take a crap on Kasier and iPhones and all other phones in the future. They are just slaves to me. They dont control what I do or anything....so in no way am I a fanboy. My sis has an iPhone, she would rather have my phone instead after using it (the iPhone).
I've used it, didnt like how it felt. Too thin for its weight.
It actually took me longer to learn to use and set up. Not to mention it DOES NOT READ SIM CONTACTS out of the box. Putting in wallpapers is a bitch. Loading ringtones is a piss in the ass.
After a while, you get to learn how to use most of it, its not bad. It's just missing features that i'm used to.

Now as far as the Kaiser having iPhone interface.. yeah.. I dont really like them except for the PCM contacts. I prefer the Windows feel on my phone. not MAC.

I can see you are new, so we will take it easy on you:

a) The current gen iphone on EDGE will NEVER browse the internet close to as fast as the Kaiser on a 3G connection, especially HSDPA, regardless of what browser. Edge is painfully slow compared to 3G. I don't care if its PIE, show me a speed test where the iphone is even close. Not to mentioned, anymore who has spent more than 1.75 seconds researching alternative browsers is NOT using PIE. They are probably using Opera Mini or Opera Mobile. They are both much better, faster browsers, and also do your cool little zoom in and pan trick that you iphone fan boys are so proud of.

It has nothing to do with the system software or hardware either. Windows Mobile 6 is a very stable OS and is relatively pretty speedy. And the video acceleration has little effect on web browsing. If you have used PIE on a Kaiser and it lagged, it was bc it did not have the "slow scrolling" fix applied, not bc of poor hardware of software. Oprea is just as smooth as Safari on the iphone - except I am downloading at 1.4Mbs/s, as opposed to the paltry max of 236kbit/s on EDGE. Its not even a competition, its a massacre.

b) What basis do you have the wifi radio sucks? Do you have tourettes? Are you just spewing out falsehoods? Do you have proof of this? I have honestly never seen a single complaint on this board, or any other, of the wifi radio being poor.

Yes, the iphone's touch keyboard is nice, but I prefer an actual keyboard to a touch screen one. There are touch keyboards available for the Kaiser that mimic the iphone's to the T, but I still prefer my slide out keyboard. Its a matter of personal preference, not "one is better than the other". You aren't comparing apples to apples.

I will give you that once the iphone is 3G, it will be worlds better, but that is one small piece of the puzzle. Until a FULL SDK comes out, the Kaiser will be infinitely more feature rich. And I don't mean the petty SDK apple is about to release, I mean a FULL SDK. Ohh yea, and GPS.

Your argument of usability based solely on PIE is weak (which isn't even that bad to begin with). The beauty of WM is that if you don't like a piece of software, change it. The iphone can't even send MMS messages. Its sad. Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

The test was conducted side by side, both phones had full coverage (5 bars), and both phone's browser caches were cleared. It doesn't get much more even that that.

The result: safari was embarrassed on every single web site visited.
Safari took 2:07 to open Cnet, Tilt - 0:54
Safari took 1:06 to open Amazon, Tilt - 0:19
And so on....

Wow......... I dont think you should talk about things unless you actually have knowledge as to what an executable file is. Does your kaiser natively open/install a windows xp platform EXE file? Does this mean you think the Kaiser is junk too? I actually use the S2U2 ( ilock ) on my Kaiser. I LOVE how it locks the screen and i can unlock it with the same hand im holding it in. The default windows mobile screen lock takes a bit more effort to lock/unlock. With S2U2, i press the power button, its locked...all buttons. I press the power button again, use my thumb to unlock, and im back in business to make a call without having to use my other hand for anything ( VERY HELPFUL if you drive a lot like me ). Also , its so simple to change the wallpaper. Ive got mine set to a really cool gif set to run at 10x animation speed. It looks so damn cool :D



Anyway. If someone likes something , dont tell them they are wrong for wanting to customize their own device a way they want to ( This applies to swuurv and the others ). Instead of mocking people , why not just avoid the thread , and act as an adult should.

If you have a Mac you have a few options to run .exe files. You can install XP using Boot Camp, you can use XP inside a VMWare virtual machine, or you can use CrossOver Mac by CodeWeavers.

The flip side is that in no way is it possible for Windows to execute a .app file. So in a way, it is like saying that they can't cook your breakfast.

again, with my example. try typing something into google, search for any app. most things are gonna be windows, your going to have to do a lot more searching to find a mac compatible version.
just small stuff you might find on a forum. for example on modaco i had found an uploaded an exe that upsizes small 176x144 resolution games to QVGA. you convert it on your PC, and then put the modified exe on your device. well if you had a mac you couldnt do this. im just talking simple stuff like this.

If you have a Mac you have a few options to run .exe files. You can install XP using Boot Camp, you can use XP inside a VMWare virtual machine, or you can use CrossOver Mac by CodeWeavers.

The flip side is that in no way is it possible for Windows to execute a .app file. So in a way, it is like saying that they can't cook your breakfast.

Open Office doesn't exist for mac, only the ported version NeoOffice. Just ran into that problem yesterday, why I'm posting it.
