Hi all, first post on this site so bear with me. I have been reading all the posts regarding upgrading/changing ROM's from original HTC or carrier ROM to tweaked ROM's etc. The message can get quite confusing so before I take the plunge I'm hoping someone can clear something up for me. I have the Orange (UK) branded TyTnII (Kaiser?) and would like to have the original HTC ROM instead. I have already downloaded this from elsewhere on the forum. I am guessing that this will also change the current radio ROM. Some posts indicate that you must have the phone unlocked before doing this and others that you just need to install the hard SPL to change the ROM. The last thing I want is to have a locked phone, so could anyone advise which of two claims are correct?

You must use hardSPl and then you can flash every rom you want ...

1. Install HardSPL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679)
2. ...you can install all the ROM you want ! :)

If you flash the radio, then your orange phone will be locked, and will cost you to get it unlocked. I made this mistake, lucky for me, Orange love me so much they sent me a new one :)

With the new one, I have flashed roms, just make sure they don't change the radio, and you'll be fine.

Ps. You still need to flash HardSPL first.

Ran hard SPL, then ran the HTC ROM now phone is sim locked, which is what I feared. Where can I get the unlock code from? Would like ASAP, Orange take around 2 weeks to provide this.

This site didn't work for me, I contacted them, and they're aware of the problem, and are working on a fix, it has worked for the majority of people though, and its what everyone else recommends, it'll cost your £20.

Thanks for the quick response, I have followed the instructions on the web site but phone will not connect to active sync as it reports it is locked. Any suggestions?

When mine was locked, it would still connect to activesync, then when I ran their software, it'd crash active-sync and reboot my phone.

I don't know how to get your phone to connect to active-sync, but it can be done, perhaps someone else has a suggestion?

A hard reset has allowed my phone to connect to active sync (phew!) Just waiting for the code. I will let you know how it goes

Recieved unlock code, all now working again, thank goodness. The HTC ROM is an improvement over the Orange one so worthwhile doing. A big thank you to everyone who was kind enough to help out

I've just upgraded from a hermes which I hardSPL'd without any issues, so I have previous experiance with flashing roms however I've been having problems installing hardSPL on my tytnII and i keep getting a white screen ?

has anybody had any issues with the orange 1.81.61.2 WWE Rom Version and HardSPL.

i've read a number of posts with regards the "alternative" methods have all resulted in the same "white Screen".

Any help would be appriciated because i HATE the Orange icons.

jdennington ..... how are you finding the original HTC Rom compaired to the "Oranged" version ??

I used the methods described here, they worked for me when I had the same issue you did:

jdennington:

Just wondered what difference you noticed changing from Orange to HTC ROM, apart from the cosmetic ones. By changing menu options, installing multitudinous cab files and tweaking various settings, I have made it such that you would be hard pressed to find any sign of Orange on my phone. As such, i have not bothered with a ROM flash.

Just wondered if you have noticed any performance gains from the flash, or is it just the cosmetic gain you were after?

Hi, looks as though I'm in the same boat but in Australia. My HTC Tytn II was purchased in Hong Kong and now I get an error when trying to install TomTom 6 that says incorrect ROM version? I have blackberry running as well (don't know if that interferes or not). Anyway, does it mean I have to change my ROM to original HTC Tytn II ROM to avoid the Hong Kong version (they told me it was the English version though) and other things work. Please help as I'm out of my depth here.

I cant say I have noticed any improvement with response now that the HTC ROM is loaded. However there are a few applications that were not on the Orange ROM that I now have. The look and feel of the phone seems so much better, oh and this morning was the first time I was able to hear a caller whilst using a bluetooth hands free ear piece. I'm not a fan of the cooked ROM's but thats a personal preference, from what I read, there are some very successful ones out there giving a lot of users a much improved Kaiser.

Hi Everybody, I already ran the HardSPL on my Kaiser (which is from Orange). Right now I'm in Colombia but I don't really know how to get the new ROM and how do I do to charge it into the PDA. Of course, my fear is that it is SIM locked. Where can I get the htc ROM and the instructions to load it? THANX
