hey guys starting the 20 of this month most data plans will be changed... lots of things are happening and the worst part is now the customer will be held liable for data used under the wrong plan so for all the people i have helped over the past couple and the people on the media max plan months PLEASE PM me so i can change things for you come the 20th. i just found out about these changes today and also you will no longer be able to add medianet unlimited or mediamax plans with a PDA IMEI... again if you have a mediamax plan you will be held liable for any and all data usage on a "wrong feature" if you have the 39.99 pda plan or any media max plan PM on or after the 20th so i can make sure that you dont get screwed over by the company... also while im at it please do not PM because you went over on something and need credit on your account.. please just PM me if you need me to make changes to your account also if your going to PM me the things i need right off the bat are
PHONE NUMBER!!!!!
the name of the account
and the last four of the social..
... im not very active on the board but i always try to reply to my PM's...

Umm, What?

Do you work for att or something. How you going to make changes to my account? Does this affect plans that have been grandfathered over from cingular? I would expect some sort of message from ATT before i got charged ANYTHING extra. i already pay 79.95 a month. If i get screwed there will be hell to pay for ATT.

n00bs! Use the search bar!

Yeah he does. He changed plans around for people here so that they could use the 19.99 MEdiaMax plan on their 8525. Pretty nice of him, made it easy for those who wished to do so. I did it by myself on the internet site and I had it for close to a year...actually I just cancelled it and installed nodata so that I could save a few pennies (financial situations...)

Anyway, you're fine. If you have the correct plan for your phone then no worries...it's for us that gave the fist to AT&T and paid for a cell phone data plan on a PDA.

@Gynga...
Man that sucks! I've heard about the IMEI sweeps before but I never had a problem. All the people that did get caught just played naive and got credited back... Looks like you've got some work to do!
The good news I think is that some of the plans went down by 5 bucks or so...
I guess when I go back to using cell data I've got to get the official plan.... bummer...

Why can't you just **cough**change your IMEI to an old broken phone you have laying around**cough**?

More power to you broth'a. AT&T has just swallowed up my hometown wireless carrier Edge Wireless, and i am totally not looking forward to their grip on data and squeezing us customers for every fraction of change they can get

thanks for the support on the matter and yes data plans are droppi9ng the new PDA unlimited will be 30 but have no messaging andif you do want messaging its now 5 bux more than it was before... also the 5mb of data will be taken away so starting on the 20th it will be 1500 messages for 15 bux.. in my opinion the customer is getting screwed over on this one. i think that the changes were made to stop reps from flipping features there have been alot of internal changes to stop the flipping going on everywhere it sucks cuz i can still be flipped and get chargebacks but if i flip i dont get paid... oh well al good things must come to an end... to be fair if the people i helped out wanna make the changes come the 20th they will have first priority... but everyone that PM's me will get helped....

Why can't you just **cough**change your IMEI to an old broken phone you have laying around**cough**?

they've updated thesystem so that even tho you have an old IMEI on the system we know what you are really using kinda sucks i was about to put myself on the mediamax plan as well for my treo... if you guys have the data only plan thats 39.99 PM me also i'll drop it down when the price plans change.. remember tis better to help a brotha out then to go online and do it yourself where no1 but ATT gets paid for it ;)

Okay what about the Unlimited smartphone would we have problems with that? I just want to make sure I don't spend an extra $20 if I don't have to.

When I got my MDA I went to a Kiosk where a friend works and he added MediaMax + Unlimited M2M txt for for a certain amount. That Kiosk is no longer there but the plan was added by an ATT Employee and not by me online, will my plan still change on the 20th? If so I'll have an MDA and an 8525 for sale shortly. I'll get out of the PDA phone market completely and buy a Shine or some other trendy slide phone.

Ok i have a question. The screen the at&t people use at the store and when I call in show me having my old samsung d807. I had the unlimited data $20 plan on that phone. I bought my 8525 out right about 8 months ago and have been using it ever since and the at&t people still see my d807. So are you saying soon they will see my 8525? i switch back and forth between the 2 phones every week. I use the d807 if Im going out for a night of hard partying and usally keep the sim in till the battery dies. How will at&t know which phone Im using if they dont know right now?

So if I am reading this right, this will only affect people that are on any of the Media Bundle plans not the people that are on the PDA plans?

Is this correct?

I think I was misunderstood... Say I have an old broken RAZR, If I were to CHANGE the IMEI on my 8525 to the one from my RAZR, would AT&T still know which phone I was using?

Att has a database of most (if not all) the IMEIs they have sold in stores/online. This can be confirmed by checking your online account. Anytime I change my sim into an ATT branded phone, it automatically updates on the account. The good news is that they can't tell foreign identifier, like my HTC TyTN, so as far as they are concerned - I have a razr. Their data plans are still absurd. The fact that the 3G network does not support video calls is also absurd. They milk the ignorant consumers for any $ they can. Go figure.

I work for AT&T too. The 3G network does support video calls but you need the right phone to do it. I'm pretty sure the sync, a737, and the slim can do it. But of course, you have too add it onto your plan. From what I've been told, WM6 was suppose to let us do video calls also, but I haven't seen it yet.

And Gyngabread Man, my hat is off to you, way to tap the feature market!

I bought a PDA unlimited plan for 39.99, AT&T charged me but didn't put me on the plan, then sends me a bill for $1700 for one month of using the 8525 on the medianet plan! After initialy saying they can't do anything about it, when I screamed and shouted at them, they finally cancelled the charges.
Then the same problem happened the next month!
I'm now living in dread of the third bill.

I don't think you're right there - I bought a 3125 when I switched to AT&T - the only phone "they know" I have. However, everytime I switch the sim to my HTC TyTN (Not the 8525 - the TyTN) it automatically updates and reads I have an 8525 - it's strange though - it almost never updates the otherway - I can have the sim in the 3125 for a week and my online account will still read I'm using an 8525 - I think there system is designed to show you using the phone which has the greatest possible data consumption possible so they can bilk you on plans or something :(

Will changing to the new pda plan affect my ability to connect via the isp apn?

i believe the only ones that have the isp APN are the PDA connect unlimted plans and the tethering plans... not the personal... sorry for the late reply but i was out of state for a while

As far as the techs have told me at AT&T, my slightly older PDA Connect unlimited will not be changed in any way whatsoever, so I still get TRULY unlimited data (no 5gb softcap) and unlimited sms/mms. The little bugger did try to argue with me about tethering, saying they could detect it easily, but I've been tethering to my laptop at work to play FFXI for several months now and I've NEVER seen a change in billing, not even when DLing torrents <_<. For those of you who work at AT&T, is there really a way to detect tethering from a WM6 device? Or is it just a matter of trying to figure out my data usage? If I have to I'll buy several 4gb sd cards and start DLing massive data just to piss them off without tethering ^_^. Just out of idle curiosity, are there any TRULY unlimited 3g plans out there other than AT&T older plans? I can't live without my PDA phone after having spent 400+ on the TyTn.

P.S. whats up with the wap vs isp anyway? I seem to be able to connect to both with no problems for internet and minor problems for integrated programs, so I was just wondering.

On a side note, if 3G isn't important to you, why not just switch over to t-mobile -- $19.99 for unlimited data (including internet sharing).

i just went into my local ATT store with my unregister TTYN to get a 3G sim card and they registered my IME and then changed my data plan for the $15 /mo media net plan and said everything was okay.... they held my 8525 and added the media net unlimited..... i am using it to go on normal websites and such, is this thread saying I am going to get charged a ton of $$ if i dont go back in and change my plan to the $40/mo data plan?

xxjabberwockxx
4th February 2008, 01:00 PM
It seems they made a change. Instead of offering $39.99 for unlimited data and 1500 messages, you can get $30 for unlimited data and $5 for 200 messages. So that's $35 versus the media max which was 20. I switched to that.

I wanna thank Gyn for lowering my rates even if it was for a couple of months. It worked well while it lasted. I'm still under contract with AT&T and even if I wasn't, I don't think I want to switch to T-Mobile. It sucks in my area and I know it's just my area as others in the neighboring cities work fine with T-Mobile, while mine didn't when the company I worked for was testing other carriers.

I have MediaMax200 and been using it even before I started using my HTC Wizard (8125) which I've been using for over 2 years now. Still no changes to my account. And I actually bought the Wizard from in their own store. My only thing I'm not being detected is becuase I bought the phone with my work discount instead of one of their deals, only idea I could come up with. I'm planning on getting an 8525 ot a Tilt (8925) soon, actually in about the next 2 or 3 weeks.

$20/mo. unlimited internet with sharing. I don't really share all that often but I do use atleast a few times a month. The only reason I got that MediaMax200 plan was because at the time of my first smart phone the guy said I'm required to have it. There's no way they can charge you extra for their own mistake.

On a side note, if 3G isn't important to you, why not just switch over to t-mobile -- $19.99 for unlimited data (including internet sharing).

I don't even see this on tmobile's website.

I read through this post and decided it might be a good idea to check out my accounts standings since I applied for a $20 media max data plan in January of last year and haven't seen any erroneous charges yet. When I logged into AT&T's website, it was indicated that my phone is a LG CU400..

This got me thinking back to when I had to put my SIM chip into one of these devices before the SIM in my 8525 could be properly recognized as being compatible with the Cingular Video service. Anyways, it might be worth while for some of you to attempt this same trick in order to fool the operator into thinking that a different device is being used than the 8525 so as to not have extra charges incurred.

Hope this helps someone. Cheers

TOTAL OFF TOPIC
AT&T is still the BEST outta ALL the MAJOR carriers, my father has been with Cingular/AT&T since 2002, and I got caught up it those DaDa.net Text Message Monthly charge scam(which was going on 4 over a year $9.99 extra everymonth) Now its my Dad's account Family Plan with 2 separate lines, I got bored and nosey last month and went thru his PILE of BILLS on his desk (he dont mind cause I am a clean-a-holic) so I started opening the AT&T Wireless Bills, scanning over them, especially my NUMBER, and at the VERY end of the BILL under "Mobile Purchases & Downloads Details" we were getting HIT for an extra $22.00 each month(AT&T will only let me go back just over 1 year to review past bills)

Bid4Prizes3-$10.99
Dada.net-$10.99

Long story short I went to both AT&T and the companies responsible for the charges, and right off the BAT AT&T has started to CREDIT my father monthly, and 1 of the companies has sent ME a $99 REFUND check for the "misunderstanding"

AT&T is good, better than Verizon, GSM Carriers that use SIM chips, are the BEST
THIS is ALL JUST MY OPINIONS on AT&T the hidden charge thing is TRUE, I just wanted to give AT&T credit, they handled this promptly!!

I purchased my tilt as a refurb and when I received it placed my old SIM card (original from 2002) in the phone and booted it up. After a few months I got a data plan, and called AT&T to see what my options were. I explained that I had a Tilt was told I could get the MEdia Net Unlimited plan for 14.99, which I did - and which I have currently. I've had this plan for several months and have never been charged extra.

After reading this (granted this topic is a bit old) I decided to check the status of my account. I go to manage features and it shows that not only do I have MEdiaNet Unlimited, but it's RECOMMENDED by AT&T!!! W T Hell??

Might give att a call to switch it out! ASAP! :) ill let you guys know how it goes.

I was confused because someone had mentioned that they do a sweep and switch plans for you automatically.....hmmmm.
