Been using it on my wizard. good battery, great signal... don't seem to have any missed calls with Octavio's 6.0

It really is a much improved radio! Before, when I was out and about, somewhere between 10 and 20 feet inside the doors of Walmart and Costco, I would lose signal. Now I can go anywhere within those two metal-clad warehouses and never lose signal...even receiving and making calls within!

:D

Needless to say, I'm very pleased.

Hi,
After installing the radio rom 2.71.11 on my phone (K-Jam with TNT 1921 rom) missed calls have shown up :( In one day I missed 3 (out of 8) calls. Additionally my phone locked up (just freezed!) while I was trying to make a call.. So, I switched back to 2.69.11
Cheers,
Orhan

I have the Black Diamond 3.1 rom on my T-mobile MDA, updated from
a 2.25.xx radio verison to 2.71.11 and now my signal icon doesn't update. its stuck on whatever signal i have upon startup. I thought at first i was getting great signal everywhere, then my calls started dropping with 5 bars and i restarted and it showed 1 bar instead.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone else using the 2.71.11 radio with the Black Diamond 3.1 rom?

Hi,

That is a nice version.

How can I install this ROM and do I loose all my settings when installing it?

Many Thanks

been using it for a week.... upgraded from 2.69.11.

seems stable and has better strength, but cannot confirm if it has absolute improvement over 2.69.11 until further testing.

Just flash previous version of only Radio ROM. If this does not work for any reason, flash your stock ROM.

Hi,

Do I have to put ActiveSync in Guest Mode before running the Radio ROM reflash or can I leave the ActiveSync Partnership intact?

Thanks.

Everyone is hoping and praying that there is a new radio that combines the stability and great battery life of radio 2.19 with better reception like 2.61. 2.71.11 might be it, but its soo new its hard to tell right now.

Vikasmestry, but since it doesn't work out for you here's a good alternative:

http://rapidshare.com/files/84722422/T-Mobile-UK_2.19.11_Radio_Only.zip.html

Its the T-Mobile UK 2.19 Radio I spoke about. This is considered one of the most stable (no missed calls) with great battery life and a good signal. Its being used by all versions of the Wizard and in nearly all countries by someone. So don't let the T-Mobile and UK description bother you.

Download, unzip and run the ROMUpdateUtility.

I've been using this radio for a week now, seems OK. I think the signal strength is a little better then 2.69 and the power consumption is about the same. No missed calls, but the missed call radio tweak is still installed in my wizard.

For both 2.69 and 2.71, I have the following problem:

1. Signal could drop to zero for no reason while being statically placed on the desk, upon turning on then off Flight Mode, the signal return.

2. Sometimes, when trying to send SMS, the phone says "Network is not ready, please wait 15 sec. and retry again." And no matter how long I waited, the same message came up. And I had to switch on and off Flight Mode to make it work.

These problem doesn't happen everyday nor does it happen just a particular spot in town. And I can't recall having similar issue with 2.19 before.

I have wm6 tnt 1933 series rom date 9/30/07 ipl/spl 2.26

Mspeed test went up to 70kb from 39kb radio rom 2.19.11.

I never received calls and never received vm reminder.

If it matters I have the cingular fix installed.

Anyone have such issues.

Edit
switched back to 2.19.11
upgraded to ipl/spl 3.08
mspeed test went up to 70kb plus
received all calls

upgraded to 2.71.11
lost the E icon only shows G
mspeed test stayed around 70kb and up
No calls coming in

going back to 2.19.11
Good thing I tried 3.08 that helped my internet connection

I am in NYC if that helps

The ipl and spl are only relative while booting the phone...nothing about them is going to affect your internet speed.

I've been using this radio (2.71) for a couple of weeks now with both mfazzz's ROM and Octaivoi V6. It seems to work fine but I don't see major improvement over 2.19. 2.71 might have a somewhat better signal strength and a shorter acquisition time though.

Hey guys,

I'm relatively new to all this and usually am able to follow installations to the T. I've flashed my phone to other roms maybe a dozen times, and am still having problems with them; but that's another story altogether.

Unfortunately, I don't even know where to begin on how to install this radio rom. It's a zip/rar file with the radio nk.nbf file. How can I install it on my wizard??? Do I just drop it in a certain directory in my phone??? Does it have to be installed with another program?

Thanks.

Will it be added to the rom that is on the phone now? Or will the "Radio Rom" replace it?

AgentSmith

A radio update simply replaces the existing radio and leaves the OS alone.

I wonder why so many people are eager to try these somewhat 'experimental' radio's. I always used 2.19 and never missed a call. Then again what does upgrading the radio really do? I mean, if you buy a random non-Windows mobile phone it simply always works no matter which network you are on. So what makes 2.19 different from newer versions anyway?

Its not that I am looking to upgrade, really. More, I don't have a radio, and did not want to replace the ROM that I have.

Thanks for that though! Makes good sense now. :D

imho it processes GSM signal in some other way so some of us notice better signals and all, also i noticed newer version has less battery usage.

Hey guys,

So I'm back, being my complaining self... :p

This is what I've had lately with the 2.71 radio rom; My phone reception is amazing!... When I am in clear reception areas! I don't know how selective of areas 2.71 may be. It's just that it goes in and out of reception (full reception mind you, not just a few status bars) whenever I'm in certain areas like my office for eaxmple. When I'm inside the building, I may lose reception, where as my last radio rom left me with little recetion, but reception was still available!

I'm not sure if that has to do with the rom, but when I have beam turned on my 8125 phone, the reception is completely lost. Or when I connect to my computer via usb cable, my reception is lost too! I did upgrade my phone to the lastest rom TNT.19199 and it's amazing (Except for these points of course)!

Anyone got an idea? Should I downgrade to the most popular radio rom - 2.19??? Or could it be something else?

Phil

I installed it, and did the over night test. Approx 8 hours.

called it from my home phone, and it rang in perfectly, though, when I hung up. It didn't show it as a missed call. Rather just an incoming call. Not sure why that is.

Radio 2.19.11 just sucked for me, at home, I never got a signal using radio 2.19.11.
I used 2.47.11 for the longest time but the battery drained a little faster than all the others, 2.19.11., 2.25.11, 2.60.11, and 2.69.11. Actually 2.25.11 is AT&T's Radio but I do not get a good a signal at my house,
Then came 2.71.11, I get better reception than 2.47.11 and less battery drain. Why not.
I have only once had the missed call problem. That was with a rom I tried to cook:)

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere but I looked for a while and couldn't find it. I was having a hard time updating my radio to 2.71.11 and wondering if I had to downgrade first. At some point, I took out the Storage Card and I was able to update the ROM immediately. Hope this helps some other noob out there.

I know they are not really experimental. Check the quotes in my previous post. And I know what a radio does, it just doesn't really make sense to me why there are so many versions whilst 'normal' phones (again quotes ;)) simply work out of the box, anywhere and on every network.

Radio 2.19.11 just sucked for me, at home, I never got a signal using radio 2.19.11.
Strange because 2.19 almost never looses the signal here. Often I even have a (weak) signal when other phones already lost connection. 2.19 still rules for me and I cannot really imagine why that would be different for others (except maybe in highly exceptional cases) since it's all the same hardware.

Man, I don't even know why I am repling to this, all i can say is that I am happy that radio 2.19.11 works for you. It does not for me.

The Wizard hardware is the same, but the radio Rom is different...

"I should've been more specific. I update my radio with the d/l provided.

2 things about my Kjam that made me want to throw at the wall...

1. Poor reception/lack of signal.
2. When using the speakerphone, the other person would complain of static and scratchy noises.

Now, I'm sitting in my house where I usually have zero, as in searching, signal. Now I have between 1 and three bars, and good reception. For the first time since I got it, 5 months ago, I could use it in my house.

Both people I called on speakerphone said the call was clear with no noises.

Thanks again."

2.71 radio was a total bust for me twice. I tried a straight upgrade over 2.19 then a total rebuild from the Button ROM to T-Mobile stock then 2.71 Radio. Both times sitting in the same place I get no signal where I get 3 bars on 2.19. I think that what people are mistaking as great signal 4bars is just a slow reaction or never changing reaction of the signal strenth. The signal strength indicator is not a direct reading of the signal. It's just a graphical indication of a programs interpretation of the signal. If the program is buggy then you may not get a true reading. I've seen similar results on 2.69 and 2.47.

I can tell by voice quality in known low signal areas that the signal strenght isn't reading correctly. I live in the Tampa Bay area. We have two long bridges here that only the best phones can keep connection all the way across. With 2.71 even while talking I got 4 bars but dropped the call several times mid bridge.

There is still no more stable ROM than 2.19.11

Hey dude, chill. :) Used radio 2.19 on many networks in quite a few countries and it has never let me down. Poor reception, scratchy noises, it sounds to me your phone's hardware has some flaws. I would have it checked if I were you. There's no way software can compensate for bad hardware.

Wow! A psychiatrist would have a field day in 'here', wouldn't he? When a person gets THAT dramatic in an e-mail, posting, or other message-type, especially over something as 'logical' as the functionality of software, it's extremely likely there's a hidden reason for that behavior. Would it surprise any of you to know that reps of all the companies and organizations involved have SOMEONE registered as a user on this forum? And I do realize this appears somewhat off-topic (actually, conspiracy-theory-ish is more like it!), but it really does go towards how to better recognize and deal with the 'opposition's efforts' against the amazing support that you, xda-developer's forum, as a group, provide to the general public. That's every phone company, every provider, every service department that doesn't get that big payment for the simplest fixes (hey, look... all this one needed was a hard reset! Har Har Har Har Har... clean it up and send it back and we'll charge them $300.00!!! Plus shipping!!!)

And the other developer's that would rather get paid for doing what you do - hopefully for big wigs with fat wallets and fancy, 'complicated' phones! Everyone from Microsoft, Apple, Sony, etc. all the way down to Billy Joe Jim Bob's Hog Lick, Ark.-based Ozarksoft Developer's Shack, inc. (trademark pending! don't getcha any idears there, now, ya'here?). These guys know from research that its fairly easy to discourage someone working tirelessly and without compensation; to push an individual to the point of quitting - there've been studies! Knowing this may help your attitude during those late night - early morning sessions where you just want to try one more thing before you 'sneak' back to bed with the Mrs.! Recompile, burn, install and test. Test - test - test... Then test some more!

Now, some of these are doing legitimate research into what's currently available, and at what level, but I have noticed that with the limited number of phones I have had, there has never been an authorized service center, anywhere - all warranty service is thru the phone's 'provider'! Do you think they don't want to protect that market? I know you do!

Anyways, this 2.71.11 radio is awesome - I haven't used the phone function (I use my Tilt), but all my apps work, my wifi and internet work. I have decades of experience testing apps and system setups, and I'm giving this a thumbs up for Wizard's using a decent WM6.1 ROM. Remember, don't let the bad guys get ya down!

Just wanted to let you know how appreciated your work is! Thanks! And to quote the ever-eloquent Fat Tony from a Simpson's episode, "Youse guys do crack me up, so!"
