That also excited me .. although I'm a little in the dark about what the advantages of 6.1 are? Is it just an update, or does it have a any new features/things to actually get excited about?

A new User Interface, and some new better features - but no infos from that for now, i think.

Why are you so sure?
When the infos i heard about Wm7 are trough, then we wont be able to use Mulit-Touch, Shake-feature and more :-(

OOO man i hope that the 16gb version will be flash or something solidstate and that it will be a drop in replacement so that we will be able to get in on that sweet action.

No,sorry.
Its HDD again:
T-Mobile Germany today unveiled the T-Mobile MDA Ameo 16 GB, the follower of the earlier released MDA Ameo, T-Mobile's version of the HTC Athena.
While the device design stays the same - more or less (except some keyboard rearrangements as T-Mobile Germany said in its press release) - the Ameo 16 GB gets a doubled hard disk drive, featuring 16 GB, compared to the original MDA Ameo/HTC Athena and T-Mobile Germany accidentally confirmed that the new Ameo will run with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional:

I have red the offical prerelease of the news and I have found intresting sentence:
das Betriebssystem Office Mobile 6.1, das Office 2007-Dateiformate unterstützt. Nutzer können Word- und Excel-Dateien aus Office 2007 am Ameo 16 GB betrachten und bearbeiten. Weitere Merkmale von Office Mobile 6.1 sind die Möglichkeit, Dateien aus ZIP-Ordnern zu öffnen und anzuzeigen, und die verbesserte Darstellung von Diagrammen in Excel Mobile.

First TM say: OS Office Mobile 6.1

Then only Office 6.1

Does TMob maybe mean the 16gb Ameo will have WM6 with Office 6.1?

Nice to know we'll have the 6.1 rom to play with soon enough. (Or rather .. I'll let others play with it and add all the goodies into some custom ROM :P - rom cooking is well beyond me, I wouldn't know where to start, despite an interest to :@)

An updated version of the keyboard was mentioned too - that isthe key layout is redesigned, but still nothing of it being backlit or anything else terribly fancy

The hard drive upgrade sounds nice, but a bit o a bugger for those of use with the current model, as far as I'm aware, it's not the easiest thing to get ahold of the current hitachi drives, let alone a 16gb version. Plus, even with the service manual, the athena is a b*tch to open

Just my 2 cents

I realy think, its not WM6.1 its WM6.0 :(

you can read here (german):
http://www.golem.de/0801/57109.html

Oh snap!

Perhaps the linked article was confusing it with Office 6.1?

Maybe we wont get WM6.1 for our Athena :(

I thought wm6.1 is only for non touchscreen, no? Never saw anything about wm6.1 indicating it's for touchscreen.

Are you sure? I have got an info, that Micr. plans to have only 2 version for Wm7: "Smarthone" - without touchscreen and "Smartphone Pocket Pc" with touchscreens. But no WM7 for non-phone-pda´s. This is a strategy from Micr. for get the marked back against the iPhone.

Thats the info i have.

I will upgrade when they put in a 64GB SSD, and do away with the stupid magnet keyboard (stick with the graffiti text input, or copy the Apple phone keyboard).

One other thing, video drivers to take advantage of the screen real estate!!!
